Samsung j3 comparison. Samsung J2 Prime or Samsung J3? Which is the best buy J2 Prime vs Samsung Galaxy J3? A mobile network is a radio system that allows multiple mobile devices to communicate with each other

Finally, Samsung has taken up the design of its most affordable line of smartphones - the J-series, improved the appearance, finalized the characteristics. On the test Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 is the cheapest smartphone from the new series of smartphones from the Korean company. Budget Samsung is popular, so let's see what it can and can do.

Doesn't look budget

Samsung decided not to be greedy and thoroughly redesigned the design, the younger model looks in the spirit of the company's expensive devices. If you are not particularly versed in the lineup, you can easily confuse the J3 2017 with some other older Samsung series. Yes, they all look the same, but now the screen has a curved 2.5D glass, and most of the rear panel is covered with an aluminum panel.

I was offered a phone in a beautiful pale blue color, in addition to this option there will also be gold and black. Not so original, but in the spirit of tradition: I think that they will generally take from us in black - this is the accepted way.

The assembly is excellent, the case is made of matte plastic, non-separable. The older J5 and J7 have an all-metal case, it seems that they decided to save money by downgrading the status of the younger model, hinting that they are asking for a surcharge for more expensive versions for a reason.

Screen without useful function

I knew that LG and Samsung liked to save money on younger models by removing the light sensor from their phones. What for?! I don’t know, but in the Galaxy J3 2017 the situation is the same - the phone does not know how to automatically adjust the brightness, adjusting to bright or dim lighting. The brightness has to be adjusted manually by moving the slider across the screen.

Buttons under the screen without backlight

Unlike older and more expensive models, again, there is a TFT-IPS display, not AMOLED. But this is pure taste, because the screen is good. It is covered with glass with an oleophobic coating, resolution 720x1280 pixels, diagonal 5.2 inches with small frames.

Power

Exynos 7570 processor, 2/16 GB of memory - a modest base minimum. The compartment for the memory card is separate, you can additionally put two SIM-cards, against the background of Chinese models with hybrid trays this is an advantage.

Android 7 is also good, although the speed of the shell is not the highest, in some places it is noticeable how the phone becomes thoughtful when you switch between applications or start quickly flipping through pictures in the gallery. He does not like such vanity.

The ringer speaker moved to the side of the case - original, I haven't seen this for a long time, you won't cover it with your hand during games. The volume margin is good, but the quality is not very good, it wheezes at maximum volume.

LTE works well, there is no NFC in the smartphone, it does not see a 5 GHz network either, it connects only to 2.4 GHz - there is nothing to boast of a budget model.

For charging, a microUSB port is used, bells and whistles like fast charging no, the set includes a 1A power supply. The battery capacity is 2400 mAh, the phone can be charged in 2.5 hours from a complete charge.

In terms of operating time - the results are standard, it can withstand a day of active use. If you need higher rates, look towards models with batteries from 4000 mAh.

Camera without bells and whistles

The front camera surprised me with the presence of a flash - there are no other valuable features like autofocus in the 5-megapixel camera. The main camera is 13 megapixels, it shoots well during the day, but the phone is no different from most Chinese competitors in terms of shooting quality, just normal quality for that kind of money.

Alternatives

The official price of the Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 is 12,990 rubles. Brand name on his side, fancy shell, good camera, convenient sizes, nice design. Of the minuses - no light sensor, no fingerprint scanner, plastic in the finish of the case, no NFC.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X - metal body, fingerprint scanner, 5-inch HD screen, 3/32 GB of memory, Snapdragon 435 processor, 5 and 13 megapixel cameras, 4100 mAh battery.

Meizu M5s - metal body, 5.2-inch HD screen, fingerprint scanner, 3/16 GB memory, MediaTek processor MT6573, 5 and 13 megapixel cameras.

Honor 6C - metal body, fingerprint scanner, 5-inch HD-screen, 3/32 GB of memory, Snapdragon 435 processor, 5 and 13 megapixel cameras.

Conclusion

The Galaxy J3 example clearly shows how the Chinese manufacturers scared Samsung. Samsung decided to invest in the design, to tighten up the characteristics, while creating the perfect budget smartphone it still didn't work out.

Several annoying imperfections spoil the overall impression of a pleasant device. There would be a bigger battery here, add a light sensor and more powerful stuffing - the phone would turn out to be more fun. And so, Samsung with all its might hints that it is better to look to the buyer in the direction of older, more expensive devices.

However, I believe this model will be one of the most popular among Samsung smartphones this year. Simply because it is a new and inexpensive model with a nice design and convenient dimensions.

For provided on Samsung testing Galaxy J3 (2017) thanks to the friendliest gadget store

2016 was the year of updates for most of the mobile range from the South Korean company Samsung. Changes have not spared the most diverse line Galaxy phones J. On Russian market this budget series has about five models, and Samsung J3 2016 takes the place of the “golden mean” in it. Does the Samsung Galaxy J3 stand up to the competition in its price range- let's find out from our smartphone review.

Key features of Samsung Galaxy J3

It is quite logical that from economy class among Samsung phones do not expect something extremely surprising and amazing. The smartphone is significantly inferior not only to the simplest representative of the updated A-line of the same manufacturer, but even to its own slightly older colleagues in the niche. However, you shouldn't write it off so quickly. Indeed, for budget phones, the Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 shows quite good results.

Frame

Of course, hardly any budget model will be able to boast of a body made of even a simple 2.5D glass. Galaxy J3 2016 is no exception. In general, its design is not distinguished by originality or special “style” - the phone looks quite simple, but at the same time it is not so cheap. The body of the updated smartphone, like its previous version, made of plastic. The back panel of the gadget imitates a matte metal finish in one of three available colors: standard white, universal black and gold, which has been very popular in recent years. The side part is made in the form of a metal edging, which may mislead you and lead you to think that there are indeed aluminum inserts in the case. Unfortunately, it is not.

Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 design is not much different from most models of the South Korean developer

The screen takes up most of the front panel. Under it are the mechanical Home button, as well as the touchscreen “Context Menu” and “Back”. By the way, the sensors on the J7, unlike most modern Samsung models, are constantly visible, and not only when backlit. On the this moment this is already a rarity and in later market representatives the company hides similar controls. Above the screen is front-camera, speaker, proximity sensor and Samsung brand logo. The front camera has no flash, as you may have noticed.

The dimensions of the phone are 142 x 71 mm, its thickness is 7.8 mm. Weight - 138 g.

Screen

The smartphone cannot boast of a large screen diagonal. Here she is only 5 inches. In addition, there is a small black frame around the entire perimeter of the working display, which cannot be removed in any way. However, this is quite enough for any work with the phone, and due to its small dimensions, the device is convenient to hold in the hand. The display resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, which is a standard figure for budget and mid-range phones. Of course, the image on the Samsung Galaxy J3 does not compare to the same Galaxy S7. The cheapness of the gadget will show through several square silhouettes, not the clearest edges of the image or pixels that you can see even with the naked eye. True, with special diligence.

In tests, the smartphone does not show the top results. Even among representatives of its own niche, it is often inferior to colleagues in terms of brightness and the number of colors that it can reflect. But this is not as critical as it might seem. Especially when you consider that the phone is from the most budgetary line of smartphones from Samsung, and even not its oldest model.

At the same time, the updated Galaxy J3 now has a Super AMOLED display, which means that, despite the weak technical savvy, the picture on the Galaxy J3 screen promises to be quite high quality. This is immediately apparent in the color accuracy score, where the Delta E error is only 2.7 with an average of 3.2.

Photo gallery: smartphone test results

One of the obvious distinguishing features of the phone is its impressive Super-AMOLED display.The color temperature of the display is somewhat overestimated, but this is quite typical readings for all models from the South Korean developer.The phone has a high brightness, which makes it comfortable to work with it not only indoors, but also outdoors
Among other things, the phone has a fairly wide viewing angle. Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 does not have auto brightness, unfortunately, but the level of "illumination" of the display can be adjusted manually without any problems.

Technachinka

Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 processors also do not differ in special characteristics. It is equipped with a Spreadtrum SC9830 quad-core chipset with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and a Mali-400 MP4 graphics processor. The smartphone performs standard and simple tasks promptly, without delays, reboots, various bugs and other things. However, it is worth contacting the South Korean brainchild with a slightly more resource-intensive request, as the phone begins to noticeable difficulties. Unfortunately, this smartphone is not intended for complex work or "heavy" games.

Concerning software then the Galaxy J3 boasts Android Lollipop version 5.1.1 and the famous TouchWiz shell from Samsung, which makes it easier to work with the interface of your device, and also gives it a certain playfulness and individuality.

In this mode, you can manually adjust such as white balance, ISO, exposure and more.

Daytime shooting (+ photo)

The camera in the Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 is pretty predictable for a budget phone. With near-ideal lighting conditions and minimal shake of hands or objects in the frame, pictures come out clear, detailed, rich and bright. The camera determines the light balance accurately, and the color rendition is close to the original. However, as soon as at least one component of “ideal” shooting disappears, the quality of the frames is noticeably reduced, blurring appears, and color is lost. In addition, many users note that the phone sometimes takes too long to select the object of focus.

Quality and detail in sufficient daylight produces excellent results
It is more difficult to shoot people: the slightest movement - and part of the picture is blurred

Auto white balance also performs well.
Color reproduction is very accurate despite overcast skies and missing sun

Night shooting (+ photo)

In dim lighting, indoors or at night, rely on good quality the frames you made are not worth it at all. Images immediately lose daytime detail, a lot of noise appears, the images become grayer and more inconspicuous. At the same time, the autofocus starts to slow down noticeably.

As soon as dusk deepens, you can safely put your Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 in your pocket.
At night, the detail of images drops several times
Autofocus, it seems, is starting to seriously think about whether it's worth trying to shoot something at all

Macro mode, in general, behaves well even indoors. Of course, there is no reason to hope for a rich and bright photo, but the pictures come out at a decent level.
If you want to get a blur-free picture indoors in normal mode, you have to provide the phone with very serious stabilization.

Moving objects, however, cannot be captured with excellent detail.

Video recording

The story with the video is the same. The phone records videos in a resolution of 1020 x 720, i.e. only HD, the frame rate is 30 fps. In good daylight, the results are pretty good even though it's not Full-HD. But at night the quality drops dramatically.

Front-camera

Everything is exactly the same in the case of the front camera. The 5 megapixel lens gives an acceptable result during the day and in a well-lit space. The front-facing Galaxy J3 2016 does not have a built-in flash, so you simply cannot take a selfie (not that high-quality, but at least discernible) at night or in a room with dim light.

Despite the fact that the resolution of the front camera of the Samsung Galaxy J3 is lower than that of the main camera, the pictures taken with it sometimes come out much better.
But not always

The design of the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is made in a style that has become common for the entire line since 2017. The smartphone received soft, pastel colors and bright silver accents on the front and back panels.

The Galaxy J3 (2017) also has metal casing, but there are fewer of them than other models in the line. The smartphone, in addition, turned out to be a little thicker than it should have - as a result, it lacks the nobility that the same Galaxy J5 (2017) acquired.

Galaxy J3 (2017) bezel closed protective glass... Here the accents are the Samsung logo, as well as the edging of the touch and virtual buttons at the bottom of the device.

There is a large metal tab on the back panel. You might think that this is a cover that can be removed. In fact, SIM and microSD are installed in the side bays. Like the older models, the bright silver logo of the smartphone and the same edging of the photo module stand out against the soft background.

The device is assembled with high quality, the materials are also at the level, but it still leaves the impression of a budget device, even if in its price range it will look better than many competitors. Perhaps a "silver" or black smartphone will look better than the "gold" one that came to us.

Connectors and controls

5-inch devices are quite ergonomic: they are easy to operate with one hand. All connectors and controls are well placed, but there are still exceptions.

There is a hardware room on the front panel under the screen. Home button... The other two android buttons made by touch. Despite the fact that the Home button is the same size as the Galaxy J5 (2017) and J7 (2017), it is not aligned with the fingerprint scanner. So the device's protection is weaker.

Above the display is speaker, front camera lens and LED backlight, which is analogous to the flash. You can also see a window with sensors.

On the back of the smartphone, we see a camera and a flash.

On the right side there is a button for turning on the screen, as well as a slot with a speaker grill for the speakerphone.

The smartphone has two volume buttons on the left. There are also two compartments for SIM-cards and a memory card.

The SIM and microSD slots are separate, so you can use all three cards at the same time. The compartments are opened with a fairly long key. Our short video will tell you how to insert cards into Galaxy J3 (2017):

At the bottom we find a microphone, audio jack and microUSB. This arrangement may not be convenient for everyone and not always, especially when you want to listen to music through headphones and charge your phone at the same time. However, this has already become a commonplace for modern smartphones, which are becoming thinner and thinner.

There is nothing on the top.

Note also that the device will be easy to operate both right-handed and left-handed. The buttons are conveniently located.

Case for Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

It is not yet possible to buy a cover or cover for the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017), at least at the time of writing. However, the company offers three covers at once for the older models of the line. They cost from 890 to 1390 rubles.

We can expect that over time Samsung will offer accessories for itself. cheap Galaxy J. Let's hope that they will cost less than for the "five" and "seven". Pictured is the Slim Cover bumper for the Galaxy J3 (2016). His company offers for 290 rubles.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Firmware Update

It's pretty clear that the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) will get an update to Android 8.0. I would even bet that Android 9.0 for the Galaxy J3 (2017) will be released. So a guide to flashing your smartphone will come in handy.

So for flashing Galaxy J3 (2017) do the following:

  • and make sure that the smartphone has enough charge;
  • enter the smartphone into the Download Mode (while pressing the "off" + "volume down" + "home button" keys), then press "Volume up";
  • connect to device USB cable;
  • in the Odin application on your computer, select files from the archive with the firmware:
    • for the PIT graph - a file with the * .pit extension;
    • for PDA - a file whose name contains the word CODE, if there is none, then you should know that this is the heaviest file in the archive;
    • for CSC - a file whose name contains the word CSC;
    • for Phone - a file containing MODEM in the name;
  • Note. If the files for the CSC, Phone and PIT graphs are absent in the archive with the firmware, then we sew exclusively by the method of one file, i.e. we indicate the location of the firmware in the PDA column, and leave the rest of the lines blank.

make sure Odin is checked for Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time ". If the location of the * .pit file was specified, then the "Re-Partition" checkbox will be set automatically;

press the "Start" button and watch how the firmware process is going on. The phone may reboot several times during installation and in no case should you disconnect the cable from it until the message “All threads completed” appears in the Odin log or the green information window with the inscription “PASS!” Lights up.

The firmware update process traditionally lasts a few minutes (from 5 to 15) and, if successful, you will be prompted to configure the smartphone according to your preferences. After that, you can start working.

If suddenly something did not work out, you can ask about it in the comments under the article.

Galaxy J3 (2017) screen

Samsun Galaxy J3 (2017) received a 5-inch PLS display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The pixel density is 294 ppi. Considering that other smartphones of the line have the same resolution, but large screen sizes, in terms of clarity, the display of the cheapest device is ahead! Naturally, if you close your eyes to the fact that the older J has a SuperAMOLED screen. However, the difference is small, so this cannot be called a miscalculation of the marketing service. Yes, and we are supplied with the J3 (2017) version with a Super AMOLED matrix, and not like the test sample.

Nevertheless, even the PLS screen has good, rich colors, natural blacks and good contrast.

Samsung has limited display settings on the Galaxy J3 (2017). The older models of the line have various screen profiles, including those adapted for watching movies and photographs. They differ in color temperature close to natural - 6500K. Also, older Galaxy Js have a blue filter, which supposedly reduces fatigue. The troika does not have all this.

But Galaxy J3 (2017) received the "Outdoor" mode. He turns on the display brightness to maximum for 15 minutes. After that, the brightness decreases. This is the only screen setting. In general, it is convenient, since Samsung does not have an automatic brightness adjustment mode.

The display leaves good impressions however, it lacks customization. However, this is understandable. The screen of the cheapest device of the line cannot be better than that of the more expensive ones.

Let's turn to objective tests. The brightness of white in a smartphone is 548.41 cd / m 2, black is close to zero, or 0.32 cd / m 2. The contrast ratio is 1713: 1. You can count on comfortable work on the street, only you need to turn on the backlight to the maximum.

The color temperature of the Galaxy J3 (2017) is too high, like all smartphones. Only rare exceptions approach 6500K. The J5 (2017) has a dedicated display profile for this. Galaxy J3 (2017) doesn't have this setting, so the screen shows "normal" 8500-9000K.

The color gamut of the Galaxy J3 (2017) is slightly more modest than that of the older models of the line, but, as befits a normal PLS, it is noticeably larger than the sRGB range.

But the gamma curves flew away. The shades will be lighter. Here, the screen is noticeably worse than that of other smartphones in the line.

The smartphone recognizes five touches.

From more Samsung display Galaxy J3 (2017) looks good. Especially when you consider that a version with a Super AMOLED screen will be sold in our area.

Galax J3 camera (2017)

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) received two cameras. The main one has a resolution of 13 megapixels, the front one - 5 megapixels. Both are capable of recording Full HD video.

Galaxy J3 (2017) retained the proprietary lineup chip and received a front-facing flash, or rather LED backlighting, which works both with video and with photos.

It should be noted that the front camera of the smartphone differs from the Galaxy J3 (2017) not only with a lower resolution than that of the older models. She also received a darker lens with aperture of 2.2, although for other representatives of the J line this figure is 1.8 and 1.9. The main camera is the same as the Galaxy J5 (2017).

The camera interface of the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is standard. In one part of the display there are quick buttons, including changing the camera, flash and calling settings. Any of the shooting modes can also be added there.

On the other side are the shutter buttons for shooting videos and photos. They are on the same screen, you don't need to switch between them. On the one hand, it is convenient, on the other hand, you can accidentally click on a video instead of a photo. Right next to it there is also a preview window, leading to the Gallery.

The area next to the main shutter buttons is given for adjusting the skin tone of the face, or other quick settings, depending on the mode.

Swiping to the right or left opens screens with shooting modes, as well as preset filters. There are fewer modes and filters than in devices Galaxy series A. You cannot add new modes, but their order can be arranged, as well as brought to the main screen of the camera.

The settings apply directly to individual cameras. They are mainly limited by the resolution of the content being filmed, as well as common functions: descent, geotags, etc. Adjustment of shooting parameters is available on the main screen depending on the selected shooting mode.

The front camera interface is the same as the main one. The button for the flash is also in place, since it is also on the front side of the smartphone. But here, in the default mode, more settings are available to improve selfies: skin tone, etc.

The front camera has only two modes, in addition to the main one: a wide-angle selfie will help to accommodate a landmark in the background, and the second one will record additional sound. The set of filters is about the same.

The maximum resolution of the main camera is 13 megapixels, while the aspect ratio is only 4: 3.

In general, the camera copes well with different scenes. You can almost always get a good photo if you want.

The main camera can shoot Full HD video. There is a square video preset for Instagram.

The video also turned out pretty good.

The front camera can also take a 13-megapixel photo and it will also be 4: 3.

The front camera lags behind the main one in terms of image quality, but not fundamentally. With backlight and front-facing flash, you will be able to take good selfies.

The front camera allows you to shoot Full HD videos as well as square videos.

C video is a little worse. The camera is slower to react to changes in light, but in general it is also suitable for shooting yourself. Don't forget about the front flash. With her, everything is much better.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

The characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017), as with the entire line, are significantly improved over the previous generation.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) was very humble smartphone... Recall that it was released not even in 2016, but at the end of 2015, respectively, its platform was not the newest even at that time, even in its class.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) received Exynos processor 7570 with four 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. In comparison with last year's model, it was not so much the frequency that the architecture was pumped. The 2016 version used Cortex-A7. Cortex-A53 is both faster and more economical, so you can expect a noticeable increase in performance.

There were no fundamental changes in the schedule compared to the American version, but the main one used the Mali-400 at all. So installing Mail-T720 can give a noticeable boost in games.

The RAM capacity has also increased slightly. This is now the standard 2GB. Yes, and 16 GB of memory in the minimum version also looks, though not "ah", but this is not a measly 8 GB.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) platform is more modest than the J5 (2017). Considering that the younger Galaxy J has the same software, it may work slower.

The Galaxy J3 (2017) is also more modest from a communication point of view. It only has LTE category 4, while other smartphones have a higher one. They have higher throughput of fourth-generation networks. Also Galaxy J3 (2017) does not have Wi-Fi support 802.11ac, NFC.

Cameras versus previous model have improved. They are now recording Full HD videos. The battery capacity has decreased to 2400 mAh. Hopefully new processor more economical and the autonomy of the device will not deteriorate.

Performance testing

Before the start of the test "races" a quick summary: the new Galaxy J3 (2017) has a higher frequency, more RAM and a more advanced architecture. The performance gain over the 2016 model should be very noticeable.

In the first Basemark test, the new J3 brought the old one over 70%.

JetStream shows performance in web applications. Mobile devices have long passed the critical mark when it comes to displaying web pages, even the most complex ones. In this case, this is reflected in the smaller difference between the two smartphones.

In 3DMark new samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) turns out to be noticeably faster than its predecessor, but attention should be paid to in general enough a small amount of points.

The small number of "parrots" in 3DMark is confirmed by another test. The new J3 is faster again, but very little FPS.

Let's take a look at how the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) performs in the popular Antutu benchmark.

The comprehensive AnTuTu benchmark equates the CPU and GPU of the chipset. Recall that if the architecture of the computer processor is different for the models, then the graphics are almost the same.

Galaxy J3 (2017) battery life

Autonomy is the highest achievement of the new model. After our usual set of actions, the new Galaxy J3 (2017) retained 83% charge, while its predecessor only 73%. Moreover, the J3 (2016) has a 200 mAh battery capacity. As a result, we can safely say that the Galaxy J3 (2017) will last more than a day. However, given the low performance in graphics tests, for greater autonomy it is better not to load it with games. Noticeable battery savings are achieved by eliminating the AMOLED screen.

3D graphics consume the most, followed by data transfer. It is better to read the Internet via Wi-Fi if you want to increase the battery life.

Phone manager can be found in the Optimize settings section of the smartphone settings menu. You can also go there through the Energy Saver icon in the notification bar. There are two power saving modes: medium and maximum. Both can be customized. Allows you to adjust display brightness, processor frequency and performance wireless networks in the background.

Games for Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

Basically new Galaxy processor The J3 (2017) should be sufficient to provide acceptable gaming performance, but there is some doubt due to the low points in 3DMark.

  • Riptide GP2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 7: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 8: good, extremely rare, but slows down;

  • Modern combat 5: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead trigger: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead trigger 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Real Racing 3: excellent, everything flies;

  • Need For Speed: No Limits: excellent, everything flies;

  • Shadowgun: Dead Zone: excellent, everything flies;
  • Frontline Commando: Normandy: did not start;

  • Frontline commando 2: excellent, everything flies;
  • Eternity warriors 2: did not start;

  • Eternity warriors 4: excellent, everything flies;

  • Trial Xtreme 3: excellent, everything flies;

  • Trial Xtreme 4: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead effect: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead effect 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Plants vs Zombies 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead target: excellent, everything flies;

  • Injustice: excellent, everything flies.

  • Injustice 2: excellent, everything flies.

Indeed, two games did not start, one did not receive the highest rating. As a result, the Galaxy J3 (2017) remains a good game console, but honestly warn you: unpleasant surprises are possible.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) has two home screens and a News Briefing screen. They contain search and folders with Google and Microsoft applications. There is no menu button in the new interface. You can restrict access to it with a password or a picture. In the folder, you can place personal files, as well as copies of applications to which only the owner of the smartphone will have access.

Samsung also pre-installs a shortcut on the Galaxy J3 with a link to its store. There is another shortcut - Gifts from Samsung. Unfortunately, we were not offered anything. Apparently test devices are not supposed to.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) also has a Yandex app. Here is the search, the weather, and the news.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) accelerates less than other smartphones in the lineup. It remains a very budgetary device. In some cases, it can be seen that the potential of the smartphone is higher. Functionality limitations are made for the sake of positioning the device in the market.

The unambiguous advantages of the smartphone are the screen and the main camera. Taking into account the chip taken on the selfie, the front one could be of a higher resolution, for example, 8 megapixels, and not 5.

On the whole, it turned out to be a decent budget model, which can be recommended with a clear conscience and the proviso that you shouldn't expect any revelations from the device for that kind of money.

Price Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

You can buy Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) for 12 thousand rubles, which is a good price, slightly higher than its predecessor.

Lenovo K6 Power costs 14,000 rubles. It has a Full HD display, though IPS, not AMOLED. He received an 8-core Snapdragon 430 and 2 GB of RAM. The resolution of the main camera is 13 megapixels, and the front camera is 8 megapixels, and most importantly, a 4000 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X with 16 GB of storage costs 13,000 rubles. It has a 720p IPS display, an 8-core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 and 2 GB of RAM, 13 and 5 megapixel cameras, 4100 mAh battery.

Huawei Honor 6C is also offered for 13,000 rubles. It has a 720p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor and 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. The resolution of the cameras is 13 and 5 megapixels, the battery capacity is 3020 mAh.

It unites all rivals of Android 6.0 and the fact that they are at least a little bit thicker than the Galaxy J5 (2017), with the exception of Huawei. As a result, we can say that the AMOLED display and newest android 7.0 require sacrifices, if not financial, then in terms of performance. Prioritize.

pros:

  • good body;
  • decent design;
  • good main camera;
  • good screen;
  • two separate slots for SIM cards.

Minuses:

  • low resolution front camera;
  • relatively unproductive platform;
  • lack of a fingerprint scanner, NFC;
  • no auto brightness control screen.

In mid-May 2017, the Korean manufacturer Samsung introduced new gadget, designed to complement the family of devices of the J series. The novelty is called the Galaxy J3 (2017) and is seriously claiming to be the best-selling phone in the near future. Why users should love this smartphone much more than last year's J3, you will find out by reading our review.

  • Cameras (main, front): 13 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Operating system: Android 7.0
  • Design: Down with Plastic?

Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 model has an unusually nondescript appearance. The body is completely made of plastic. Although the rear panel mimics a brushed metal finish, the bezel looks like aluminum. The body of the device does not contain a single gram of metal.

Samsung Galaxy J 3 (2017) looks much more presentable. The device has a metal case with plastic inserts and is non-separable. SIM cards and a flash card are installed in trays, which are removed from the case using a special needle. As in other Samsung models, this one has two trays: the first is designed for one nano-SIM, the second is combined - you can put a second SIM card and MicroSD in it.

Compared to last year's counterpart, the Galaxy J3 (2017) has progressed significantly in terms of design. However, compared to other devices in the 2017 J line, it looks rather unassuming. The fact is that smartphones J5 (2017) and J7 (2017) have all-metal cases - without any hint of plastic. Because of this, there are inserts for antennas on the rear panels of older gadgets, but their presence can hardly be attributed to the number of shortcomings - they do not spoil the appearance, but for some they seem to be a good decorative element.

The note. The combination of metal and plastic inserts in Galaxy case J3 (2017) is not the best solution. Dirt is clogged in the cracks at the joints, so the user will periodically have to clean the gadget.

Screen: no miracles!

The gadget is equipped with a SuperAMOLED display - the same as the J5 (2017) and J7 (2017) models. However, if the presence of such "fancy" displays on older models is quite logical, then the presence of a SuperAMOLED-screen on the J3 is a big surprise. There are simply no other smartphones on the market with such displays that would cost the same as a new budget device.

At the same time, the younger model of the Samsung line in 2017 is clearly not "like" the older ones in terms of the number of screen settings. In particular, J3 is deprived of a function called "Blue color filter", with which you can completely remove blue from the gadget's display color palette. This is done in order to preserve the user's vision - as you know, it is the blue color that negatively affects the eyes. Also, on the J3, you cannot change the screen mode and set up automatic brightness control - although on older models all this is easy to do.

A visual comparison of the screens of the J5 (2017) and J3 (2017) models will clearly not be in favor of the latest gadget. Its display is rather dim and noticeably "blue". Jay 5 (2017) has no such problem - his screen is white and very bright. Despite the sAMOLED technology, the Galaxy J3 (2017) display looks more like its weak point.

Performance: No Record Claims!

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) "under the hood" has a chipset of Samsung's own production - Exynos 7570. This is a 4-core solution with a Mali T720 video accelerator. The processor can be described as outdated - using the Exynos 7870 chipset would be the best solution, but it would inevitably lead to an increase in the price of a mobile device.

The note. The result of the fact that the gadget has a chipset budget level, are periodic freezes and lags, which especially often make themselves felt during the gameplay.

RAM on the smartphone 2 GB, built-in - 16 GB. The volume of ROM can be increased by means of a flash card up to 256 GB - as in any gadget of the J line of 2017. In terms of user memory for the J3 (2017), Samsung does not strictly limit.

Galaxy J3 (2017) cameras: photographers walk by

If Galaxy Jay 5 in social networks has already been nicknamed "selfie smartphone" because of the front camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, then this nickname cannot be applied to the Jay 3 model. Here the front camera has a much lower resolution - only 5 megapixels. Such a resolution could have impressed users a couple of years ago, but now, in the era of "selfie mania", it looks rather modest.

"Selfies" made with Galaxy cameras J3 (2017) turn out to be, to put it mildly, mediocre. The color reproduction is unreliable - there is too much blue in the photos. If we compare selfies with models J3 and J5 - "heaven and earth". In the photo taken with the Samsung J5 (2017) gadget, the colors are bright, the contrast is on the highest level... Selfie lovers are better off not purchasing the Galaxy J3 (2017) - the quality of the photos will hardly please them.

As for the rear camera, its resolution is 13 megapixels. The camera module is equipped with an LED flash. The quality of the shooting will not impress the user, however, photos are quite suitable for publishing on social networks.

The note. Initially, it was stated that the resolution indicators of the J3 (2017) cameras will be even lower: on the rear camera - 5 megapixels, on the front camera - 2 megapixels. Fortunately, the Samsung developers decided not to disgrace themselves with such characteristics.

How long will Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) live without an outlet?

The battery capacity of the smartphone is 2400 mAh. Quantitatively, this is not much, but in practice, with such a battery, the device can easily work with active use two days, with a moderate load - 3 - 4 days. The battery capacity is enough for 20 hours of continuous watching movies or clips.

How is such an impressive battery life of the gadget ensured? Just due to the fact that the smartphone "under the hood" has an old Exynos 7570 chipset, which does not seriously load the battery.

How else does the J3 differ from the older models in the line?

Unfortunately, Samsung Galaxy J 3 (2017) lacks many of the features and bells and whistles that the J5 and J7 can boast of. In particular, the device does not have:
  1. Fingerprint scanner.
  2. NFC. Lack of support NFC technology makes it impossible contactless payment at Samsung help Pay and Android Pay.
  3. LED indicator. You will not be able to set a flash on a call or other event.
  4. Functions "Adaptive display". With this function, the gadget is able to adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen itself to the external conditions.

Samsung J3 differs from the older models and the price - moreover, quite significantly. In Russia, the junior smartphone of the line is sold for 9,990 rubles, while the J5 is asked for as much as 17,990 rubles. Why the difference in price is so significant is obvious: Samsung's marketers understand that many consumers look at the price of 10,000 rubles as a critical mark - that is, they are looking for a model for which this amount will be enough. Paradoxically, by selling the Galaxy J3 (2017) for 9,990 rubles, Samsung will be able to make much better revenue than if it had put a price tag on the gadget, say, 10,500 rubles.

The note. Compared to European, the price of the gadget is more than democratic - for this, domestic Samsung fans should thank the Russian office of the manufacturer. In European countries, the device is sold for about $ 220, which is almost 14,000 rubles when converted at the current exchange rate.

conclusions

The main advantages Galaxy models J3 (2017) can be considered as follows:
  1. Attractive design with metallic elements. The appearance of the device seems to be completely premium when compared with last year's counterpart.
  2. Long battery life. The gadget can easily live without recharge for a couple of days.
  3. Decent rear camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels and LED flash.
  4. The presence of an LTE module that provides ultra-fast Internet.
  5. Low cost. For people looking for a high-quality mobile device from a well-known manufacturer at a price of up to 11 thousand rubles, Galaxy J3 (2017) is perfect.

The model also has disadvantages - and there are many of them:

  1. Dim display. The SuperAMOLED matrix does not help here.
  2. Weak front camera with a resolution of only 5 megapixels.
  3. Lack of a fingerprint sensor.
  4. Weak, outdated 4-core processor.

Market experts are inclined to believe that, despite many shortcomings, Galaxy Jay 3 (2017) will be very popular in Russia. For a number of reasons: firstly, because Samsung, and secondly, because the company's marketers this time very sensibly distributed new gadgets to price categories... However, if you do not succumb to the "magic of the brand" and it is fair to compare the budget Samsung device with models Chinese manufacturers"second tier", we can come to the conclusion that the price of a smartphone is even overstated. The same Xiaomi Redmi 4X is able to offer the user a wider functionality for less money.
