The laptop does not see the modem: reasons, ways to eliminate

Specialty users of Laptop are faced with such a problem when the laptop does not see the modem. Why does this happen? There are several reasons here, both of the simplest and trivial and more serious, already connected with the hardware. Today, we will look at the most common problems, because of which a portable PC does not find a modem, as well as tell me how you can fight with them.

Failure to drivers

One of the most common reasons why the laptop does not see the modem - the problem with the drivers. If you speak brief, then the online laptop module simply "loses" your drivers and begins to work incorrectly. As a rule, it happens for several reasons:

  1. Forced laptop shutdown.
  2. Failure during the system update.
  3. Damage or deleting driver by third-party program.

How to determine what problems are with the drivers? Everything is simple enough. First you need to check the system tray (icons in the lower right corner, next to the clock). If the driver is damaged, then with a large probability, the network access icon will be either crossed out, or there is no one.

Another option as you can check the driver - go to the Device Manager and view the "Network Adapters" tab. If a device with an exclamation mark is displayed there, then the drivers work incorrectly either at all.

It is possible to correct the problem in this case only by reinstalling the drivers. Usually they are on the disk that comes with a laptop or in a separate special dashboard on the system disk.

Problems with automatic definition

The second reason, because of which the laptop does not see the modem - a problem with automatic definition. Surely, many have noticed that sometimes the laptop is performed for a long time automatic modem detection and connecting to it. In fact, this procedure is quite standard and really sometimes may even take a few minutes, but because of some failures in the Internet module or in its settings, detection may continue forever and even restart the laptop in this case will not help.

However, it is not necessary to upset in advance, because in fact, the problem is non-critical and "treated" enough. You need to go to the Device Manager and go to the "Network Adapters" tab. Next, you should right-click on the network adapter and select "Properties". The last thing you need to execute is to select the "Driver" tab, click on the "Delete Device" button, restart the laptop and install the drivers for the network adapter on a new one.

Verification of modem

Very often the reason for which the laptop does not see the modem, becomes a failure in the work of the latter. Usually, the failure occurs due to not very good modem firmware, as a result of which it can periodically hang. There are no external signs that the modem is prevable, usually no, but in fact it may not be displayed in the list of available networks for connecting.

How can I fix this problem? There are 2 options here. The first consists in the usual reboot of the modem by extracting the power cable for 10-20 seconds. The second way is more complicated and suitable for more experienced users. It implies the update of the modem firmware, to a newer and stable, if, of course, there is such. Information on how to update the firmware is best read on the official website of the modem manufacturer. There, as a rule, there are detailed instructions with pictures.

Reset

Another reason why the laptop does not see the modem is to reset the settings. In fact, this problem is not uncommon, many users face it. Resetting the settings is mainly due to voltage jumps that lead to the emergency reboot of the modem. Also, Internet connection settings can be reset due to sharp modem disconnections from the power supply. But not always discharge completely all connection settings, as a rule, often the reset affects only the parameters of the Wi-Fi connection, which is why the laptop does not see the modem.

What if this happened? Well, there is only one way out - to go to the modem settings and on the new to create an access point of Wi-Fi, if the problem touched it. If everything is in order with the access point, it will have to migrate the Internet connection itself in accordance with those parameters that the provider provided.

Problems with USB modem

Many users of the so-called portable USB routers are also faced with the problem that their laptop does not see the Internet modem among the connected devices. As you know, all USB devices operate using Plug & Play technology and do not require installation of additional drivers. But also this technology is often sinned by errors, due to which the connected devices are not defined in the system.

How can I fix this problem? First of all, you need to make sure the port is complete in the complete service of the port in which the modem is connected, because it may be simply faulty. If everything is in order with the connector, the next step is to check the correct installation of the device driver.

All Plug & Play devices have their own driver that is not always correctly installed in the system when the first connection is first connected. In order to check the driver, you need to go to the Device Manager and check 2 tabs "Modems" and "Ports". If in any of them there is a device with an exclamation mark or cross, then you need to do the following:

  1. Remove the software from the system that goes along with the USB modem in the kit.
  2. Reinstall the laptop drivers that are responsible for USB ports and other connectors. As a rule, it is the driver for the chipset.
  3. After 1 and 2 steps are completed, you need to reinstall from the modem in accordance with all the instructions.

It also did not help, then you need to make sure that the port of the USB type required is connected by the modem. All devices of this type work only with USB connectors of type 2.0, and if the connection is made in port 3.0, then the laptop is simply not able to recognize it.

If, in this case, the modem was not determined, then its performance should be checked on another laptop, since it can be simply defective and inoperable.

Module malfunction

Well, the last reason why the laptop ceases to see the modem or does not see it at all - the banal breakdown of the module in the laptop itself. If none of the above methods eliminate the problem does not help, then with a probability of a 99% adapter failed. How can I check it out? All through the same devices manager. A defective Internet module will be marked with a triangle either disappear. When you try to reinstall the drivers, an error will appear on the device, and if you try to go to the module settings, the system will give an error.

All that can be done in this case is to attribute a laptop for repairs.
