How to enable bluetooth (Bluetooth) on a laptop in Windows 7

Bluetooth (Bluetooth - "Blue Tooth") is a special standard of wireless communication, i.e., using electromagnetic oscillations. It is used to connect two mobile devices and transmission between them. Initially, this technology was developed in order to ensure the work of a wireless headset in mobile phones, which made it possible to talk without hands (Hands Free). But this is not limited to the use of this technology in the laptop and other mobile gadgets - it can also be transmitted files.

For a long time known for another wireless standard - Wi-Fi. What is the difference between the new standard from Wi-Fi? Their main differences are:

  • Different frequency ranges.
  • Bluetooth has a smaller range.
  • When using bluetooth, there is no need to adjust the hardware configuration.
  • With this standard, you cannot configure the local network, i.e. to connect more than two devices at the same time.
  • In the "blue tooth" the transfer rate is significantly higher.

As a rule, a wireless communication radio module has already been built in a modern laptop. But if it is not (or one of the subscribers is a desktop PC), you can buy an external adapter. It resembles a flash drive and connects to the USB port.

Find out if there is a built-in radio module in a laptop with Windows 7, and you can also see it and turn it on using the task manager. To do this, log in to the control panel, select the "Administration" item, open "Computer Management" in it, then select "Device Manager". If there is no "Bluetooth radio module" in the list of installed devices, it means that there is no bluetooth module laptop. If he is, but next to it is issued a question or exclamation mark, it means that the adapter drivers require updates or reinstallation, but this is a topic of a separate article. When buying an external adapter, it is usually attached by the CD with drivers. After the device driver is installed, Windows 7 will be detected, and the user will be able to make sure that similar actions.

What if bluetooth does not work?

Such a state in a laptop with Windows 7 may occur three reasons:

  • The radio adapter is turned off and it must be enabled.
  • The adapter is faulty.
  • Adapter drivers are not installed or need to reinstall.

We are only interested in the first case - when the corresponding adapter is turned off, and it is necessary to enable it. This can be done in several ways.

Standard way to enable Bluetooth

In the Windows 7 task panel notifications, there is an icon of this radio module.

To configure the adapter status, you need to click on it, the menu will appear. Next, click on the "Add Device" item.

Enable with hardware

There are laptop models equipped with hardware shutdown / disable adapter buttons. If this is available, then it must be set to the ON position.

Enable using the FN key

Most laptops have a FN key on their keyboard. It is designed to manage the state of various equipment installed in the computer, including bluetooth. The top row of keys is the function keys (usually F1 - F12), pressing which along with Fn just performs such control. In the laptop, depending on its manufacturer, the key control key of the "blue tooth" can correspond to the various function keys, as a rule, this is F3-F5. This key must contain the corresponding icon.

Sometimes both wireless adapters are made in one module, so they turn on and off simultaneously using such a function key.

Enable through Device Manager

How to go to Windows Device Manager, has already been said at the beginning of the article. Entering into it, you can see a picture with a list of all installed devices.

We are interested in the "Bluetooth radio module". Open it, select the appropriate adapter and click on it with the right mouse button. If this module is turned on, then the "Disable" item will be present in the menu, otherwise - item "Enable". Here it is needed - we click on it, the adapter turns on.

Turning on the radio communication module by third-party utilities

Depending on the manufacturer, there are a number of third-party utilities, with which you can enable the radio adapter. These are such utilities like:

  • Wireless Console (ASUS laptops).
  • READYCOMM (Lenovo laptops).
  • UTILITY CENTER (HP laptops).

All of them are very easy to use, and they are easy to find on the Internet. After installing them in Windows 7, the Bluetooth logo icon appears in the notification panel. Right-clicking with the right mouse button, in which the Bluetooth adapter is the "Enable / Disable" element.

Enable using the command line

This method includes a radio component of communication more difficult than all described above, so it should be resorted to it only if none of the already given methods helped. For such an inclusion, you will need Devcon utility - it is easy to find it on the Internet and download. If it is downloaded in an archive state, the archive needs to be unpack. The program must be placed in the C: \\ Windows \\ System32 directory. In addition to this utility, a radio module identifier will also be needed. It can be found using the Windows 7 Device Manager.

In it, open the "Bluetooth radio modulus" item, click the right mouse button along the desired module and select "Properties" in the menu that appears. A window will open in which you need to go to the "Details" tab, and select "Equipment ID" in the "Property" drop-down list. In the "Value" window, the first line and contains the ID of the selected radio module.

Next, we enter the command line mode. To do this, press "Start", in the bottom of the search bar, enter CMD, opens a window, in the upper line of which is the value "CMD". Click on it, the window opens to enter the command line. In it, we enter a string of the type of DevCon Enable ID (without quotes). Instead of ID, you need to set the equipment ID device received from the device manager. Click ENTER, the DevCon utility is started, which includes a disabled radio module.
