Cheap monitor 120 Hz. Without brakes. Overview and testing of the BenQ XL2420T game monitor. Dynamic blur and response time of the matrix

The selection of the monitor is not for everyone will be simple. Someone will suit this with all the seriousness of the case, someone will choose the first one who fell from the beloved manufacturer. In order not to buy a cat in a bag, it is better to study reviews and reviews. That is how you will be able to choose the most successful monitor of 120 hertz without disappointments.

Monitors

If you decide to thoroughly take the choice of the monitor, most likely were mired in this day and weeks. So many many screens did not see the world. And while the poor buyer tries to understand the novelties, manufacturers continue to produce them.

Monitors at 120 hertz appeared for a very long time, so it is impossible to call them new. Some are considered to be outdated. Although, as statistics shows, many gamers still can not part with their "old men" at 60 Hz.

Nevertheless, it is difficult to name 120 Hz to the game screen, since an option for 144 and 240 Hz appeared. These giants will definitely give odds and leaving an observed frequency behind. The above gamers are now very expensive, and therefore you have to look for an alternative.

For such an alternative as 120 Hertz, and comes a gamer. We will look at a couple of interesting and affordable models.

AlienWare.

In 2012, the AlienWare Optx AW2310 monitor was popular. Now it has become more difficult to find, but if you ask the goal, then really. This monitor was published with an interesting design. It is difficult to call the game, but even 5 years ago, this option would attract many gamers.

The aspect ratio of this model 16: 9 with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 points gave an excellent picture. 23 inches is considered optimal for games and work as a whole.

The screen was placed on a massive stand of an unusual shape. Of course, the Alienware model now has much more interesting. On the front panel of OPTX AW2310, the company's logo was conquered. There are no more graphic elements.

The rear panels had the necessary interfaces, among which were DVI-D and HDMI, audio outputs and USB pair of type A and B.

Worked the monitor on the TFT TN matrix. The option is not the best, especially, given the popularity and availability of IPS. The maximum refresh rate of frames was 120 Hz.

Response time - 3 ms - not the most record indicator. Functionality is also not the best. There was a calibration of colors that worked well.

ALIENWARE: Reviews

Comparison of 120 hertz monitors must be accompanied by recalls, since this is the only real estimate. So this model turned out to be quite good, judging by many users.

They positively noted the correct colors, sufficient brightness, appearance and the desired number of ports. Praised image transmission clarity. Liked and adjust the screen in height.

Speaking about deficiencies worth saying that most buyers have encountered touch controls. In most models, it broke in the first months of use. On the one hand, the breakdown seems insignificant, in fact, grieves his spontaneity. Some owners complained about independent shutdowns.

ViewSonic

ViewSonic VX2268WM turned out to be in fact not bad and also received the confidence of buyers. It looked usual for many, stand out with a glossy coating that far from everyone likes.

The monitor works with a diagonal of non-standard resolution of 1680 x 1050. Aspect ratio 16:10. Over the cheap TFT TN matrix, which copes well with the image broadcast.

Endowed with VX2268WM (120 hertz) 3D. The response time at the screen is 2 ms. There are only DVI-D from the inputs. But the model was given two stereocolones of 2 W. There is automatic color calibration.

ViewSonic: Reviews

This option was for many full disappointment, and someone, on the contrary, helped in work and even in games. Of the advantages: Buyers were able to highlight the presence of 3D and frequency of refreshments of 120 Hz. Not bad turned out to be a color rendition. Operational response time 2 ms does not affect the game negatively.

They celebrated owners and an unusual format 16:10, which even if not everyone liked, for many became a find. The work of the monitor turned out to be shrine, it quietly functions both at the maximum frequency and in smaller indicators.

Negative reviews turned out to be the most different. Some users could not understand how to put 120 hertz on the monitor, because of which they mistakenly considered that the model was defective.

Among the serious flaws are a weak suit that has bothered many. It turned out to be a slick, unstable, and at the slightest vibration of the table, the monitor could turn around. Also, many are also unhappy with the survey angles, although it's not worth waiting for the TFT TN matrix.

Benq

Another good model was the monitor of 120 hertz. This model works with a diagonal of 23.6 inches. Screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 with 16: 9 aspect ratio. The matrix is still TFT TN, there is also support for 3D.

Externally, the monitor looks very good. He was placed on a large stable stand. Attempted to make it a "cramless" model. For buttons made a specially selected panel. Rear placed ports: VGA, DVI-D, HDMI and audio input.

This model in many descriptions is represented by the game with the LCD. She acquired a highlighted wised, which was noticeably affected the picture quality. The response time is 2 ms, and the frequency is 120 Hz. There is inside automatic color calibration and several temperature modes.

Introduction The frequency of the expandment on LCD monitors periodically pops ups on different Internet forums: seven or eight years ago - mostly because of the concerns, whether the monitor does not fade into 60 Hz, currently - in discussions, can the increasing frequency of expanding Response or smooth movement.

Until recently, there were no special practical values such discussions: LCD monitors do not flicker, the frequency of expanding 75 Hz, although it is present on most models, no measurable advantage gives, and on some monitors it is emulated by electronics - the matrix continues to work on 60 Hz, and "extra" frames are simply emitted. Imposes restrictions I. bandwidth DVI interface - in a single-channel version on monitors with a resolution of 1680x1050, it allows you to set an extension not higher than 75 Hz, and with a resolution of 1920x1200 - not higher than 60 Hz.

However, it seems, in the near future the situation will change radically. The impetus to this was the active promotion of NVIDIA stereo glasses GeForce 3D Vision of the so-called "gate" type - each of their lens is a liquid crystal curtain, which opens 60 times per second. The monitor should shown twice as many frames, alternating pictures for the right and left eye - that is, it should work with a frame frequency of 120 Hz, and to work honestly.

Here you can recall 120-hertz televisions, but in them, since the television format remained the same, additional frames are calculated by the processor of the TV itself as averaged picture between two frames real. This ensures the effect of a greater smoothness of movement, but our current theme refers only indirectly.

So, LCD monitors with a frame frequency of 120 Hz. Of course, NVIDIA did not naobum chose the date of the start of active promotion of stereo-glasses - release their year or two years ago, the glasses simply have nothing to use with, since the ETT monitors are popular, to put it mildly, no longer used, and LCD monitors are still It was not capable of ensuring a decoration of 120 Hz.

But today such monitors already have - and one of them, Samsung Syncmaster 2233rz, we will consider in this article. Although it is officially positioned as a monitor with NVIDIA stereo-technologies, a smooth account does not interfere with it and without glasses - and is very interesting whether there will be an explosion of 120 Hz any advantages in this case.

Testing technique

Description of the testing methodology used by us, as well as a brief explanation, which means in practice those or other passports or the parameters of monitors mean by us, can be found in the material " Methods of testing LCD monitors" If you feel that it is not enough good to focus in numbers and terms, which is replete with an article - please read the relevant sections of the specified description, we hope it will clarify many questions.

If you have not found the monitor you are interested in in this article, it makes sense to refer with full list of tested models.

Passport parameters

The monitor is built on the basis of a 22-inch TN-matrix, the response time of the response is 3 ms (GTG), which indicates us for the availability of a response compensation technology. However, it is logical - otherwise the monitor simply did not have time to switch between frames with a frequency of 120 Hz.

The brightness, contrast and viewing parameters are quite typical, as a plus it can be noted that the manufacturer indicates contrast and static, and dynamic.

In addition to the high frequency of the expandment, the set of inputs is drawn - only two-channel (Dual Link) DVI, and nothing more. The monitor does not really provide analog input. Two-channel is needed to ensure a high frequency of the expandment: with a resolution of 1680x1050 and a frame rate of 120 Hz, the data stream exceeds 4.7 Gbps, though the limit bandwidth of a single-channel DVI is slightly less than 4 Gb / s.

No compatibility issues will cause any compatibility issues: all modern without exception discrete video cards There are two-channel DVI ports, so connecting the Syncmaster 2233rz to them will not differ from connecting any other monitors. Integrated video cards and laptops for the most way output have a single-channel, but this means only the fact that the frequency of the expandment above 75 Hz will be unavailable.

The desired video cable comes with the monitor, but if you need to purchase it separately, pay attention - this must be a "Dual Link DVI-D" type cable. On Single Link, the monitor will earn a cable, but 120 Hz will not get expanded.

Design and ergonomics

The monitor is made in a black glossy plastic housing with a minimum of straight corners and flat surfaces. Such samsung design With those or other variations actively exploit enough time, and it can be understood - the monitors look very attractive, for which they can be forgiven even some impracticality: glossy plastic is known for its groove and poor resistance to small scratches. The lower part of the case decorates a narrow strip of transparent plastic; In the 53rd series of monitors behind it, the control buttons are located, but in the 33rd it plays only a decorative role.

The monitor has an average thickness in the profile, but, thanks to the smoothed outline, it looks quite elegant. Especially good is emphasizing the stand, allowing, unfortunately, adjust only the angle of the screen, and even that - in small limits.

Another drawback of the stand is an inconvenient mount: it is kept in the rubber sinus. For the assembly, the stand must be put on the table, after which it with force to put on it on top of the monitor, for disassembly - put the monitor screen down on a flat surface, without forgetting to raise up soft matter, after which, keeping the housing with one hand, the other with the power to pull the stand on yourself . Both procedures are simple, but require such efforts that it seems, a little more - and the stand will simply break.

What is nice, it is possible to use the standard VESA bracket instead of the stand - mounts for it are provided on the rear wall of the monitor. So 2233rz, if you wish, you can hang on the wall, and install on something more flexible than the regular stand.

As mentioned above, the monitor has a single two-channel DVI-D input. Connect it to an analog signal source is not possible any adapters, and to work with two computers you will need to purchase a KVM switch.

The control buttons are located on the right side of the monitor, on the touch they are easily due to the large size and slightly convex form, but the inscriptions, of course, during normal operation with the monitor is not visible at all - they are also on the side.

This problem in Samsung was solved by the method so obvious that it was surprising why he began to be used only now: when you press any button on the screen, the explanatory inscriptions will light up, each of which is located strictly opposite the corresponding button. Thanks to this, use the buttons not that convenient, but you can - without a long addiction and permanent search To the touch of the desired button in the style of "so ... she seemed to be fourth on top ... First ... The second ... Third ... Guess!".

Designers did not guessed only to one - to include the power off button to the side or at least make it significantly another form, for example, concave.

One of the most remarkable ideas in the design of the monitor is the power indicator. Usually, designers are broken up between how to make it noticeable (for some reason, luminous indicators, only when the monitor in the "hibernation", as on TVs, almost no one) - and at the same time not too annoying. However, about the second moment sometimes forget, limited by the installation superwear LED in the center of the front panel...

The Syncmaster 2233RZ of the LED itself is not visible at all - it is hidden inside and only highlights a small portion of the decorative acrylic strip passing through the lower edge of the case. It is best visible in reflection in the black and mirror stood:

The solution is very close to ingenious - perhaps this is one of the most beautiful and at the same time the most convenient options for implementing the power indicator among ever visible.

When leaving the monitor in the "hibernation", the indicator begins to flash, but due to its small brightness, inconvenience does not deliver it.

On-screen menu

The monitor is typical for all modern sAMSUNG models The on-screen menu is the exception that it is always located in the lower right corner of the screen, next to the push-button signatures. Move the menu can not.

Settings in it are grouped into six sections. The menu remembers your actions and the next time you go to it open on the section on which it was closed.

The first section - brightness and contrast settings, as well as switching MagicBright modes. The latter are several pre-installed brightness settings that can be very quickly switching to one button, without entering the main menu - it is extremely convenient when home use Monitor when you work on it, and play, and watch movies.

By default, the brightness is very high, it will be necessary to reduce it for normal operation.

The second menu bookmark is setting the color temperature and gamma. The first item allows you to choose the color temperature of the image from the finished list, the second is to be manually adjusted by RGB sliders, and the third - change the gamut, making a picture contrast or, on the contrary, lighter (only three values are available in it).

Despite the absence of analog connection, there is a definition setting in the monitor menu. In most cases, it makes no sense to touch it: with an increase in the definition around the letters, unpleasant white rims appear on the screen, with a decrease in the picture is noticeably lubricated.

In the settings of the on-screen menu itself, the selection of the language, the transparency of the menu and the time to hold it on the screen, but no longer no position settings on the screen.

The penultimate item allows you to reset all settings to the factory, select the function that the "programmable" button (second bottom) calls - between switching MagicBright modes to which it is configured by default, and switching the interpolation mode, activate automatic shutdown Monitor at a specified time, as well as set the interpolation mode. The latter is provided two: stretching pictures on the entire size of the screen or stretching the picture while preserving proportions.

Last menu item - information about the current operation mode. Here you can make sure that the frequency of the expandment is really equal to 120 Hz.

Subjective impressions

In everything that does not concern the frequency of the expression, the impressions of the monitor can be laid not that in one paragraph, and in one line is an ordinary modern model on the TN-matrix, with acceptable color reproduction, good horizontal and more or less normal vertical viewing angles. The fact that the monitor is designed to work with 3D glasses, in its image does not affect an even account in any way: you can go to the store, look at any other TN-monitor manufactured by Samsung and get a full view, as Syncmaster 2233rz looks like - at least While working on 60 Hz.

Switching to 120 Hz passed without problems: the corresponding mode "by itself" appeared in ordinary system Settings monitor.

The impressions were extremely pleasant.

First, the difference between 120 Hz and 60 Hz is visible even in the interface operating system - Movements are becoming much more smooth, and this also applies to both the cursor of the mouse and the whole drag-free windows. Especially good is visible in Windows XP and Windows Vista Home Basic - in Windows Vista, the developers of the AERO interface, which is included in the HOME Premium version and have made a lot for the sake of greater visual smoothness of work, so Aero and 60 Hz looks quite well.

Secondly, the artifacts of the response compensation scheme scheme are noticeably reduced: if at 60 Hz when dragging the window in Windows, after the letters, quite clear white stripes are drawn after the letters, then at 120 Hz it is already almost no visible. At the same time, lubrication, that is, the response time of the monitor, remains the same as on 60 Hz - but the picture in motion looks much better.

Thirdly, 120 Hz are noticeable and in games - if, of course, your video card has sufficient performance to draw so many frames every second. I can not say that the game goes into a new quality - although, perhaps, the ordinary players and will lead the conversation about milliseconds the advantages over the enemy - but thanks to the smoother movement of the picture and the disappearance of RTC artifacts during the transition from 60 to 120 Hz to play becomes more pleasant.

In general, I did not expect that the transition from an explosion of 60 Hz to 120 Hz will be so noticeable - the difference is really visible by the naked eye, and in all cases without exception, it turned out to be in favor more frequencies. More smooth movements, almost complete disappearance of the artifacts of the response compensation scheme - all this produces an extremely pleasant impression, and it's already somehow not want to return back to 60 Hz.

Generally speaking, it is this feature that I am inclined to consider one of the key factors of the future success of GeForce 3D Vision - if for all other technologies to obtain a three-dimensional image you need to buy special monitorWhich in the usual 2D mode is not working too well (at least nor Zalman Trimon, nor IZ3D could please us with quality pictures), then with GeForce 3D Vision, everything is exactly the opposite. The monitor compatible with these glasses is the meaning of buying, even if you are not interested in the points themselves - just because without them it turns out to be better than the monitors are usual!

As a result, it may well be that after some time many players, and simple users, will stand new 120-hertz LCD monitors, which will already be fully compatible with stereo glasses, despite the fact that Nobody thought about their purchase about such glasses. Yes, and by the manufacturers, it would be strange to advertise such monitors only as NVIDIA 3D glasses, ignoring their advantages in the usual 2D mode.

However, let's turn to the numbers and test the monitor in accordance with our methodology, and not only study its high-speed characteristics at a 120-herth wave, but also check whether it is not inferior to the usual 60-Hz monitors as an image.

Brightness and contrast

By default, the brightness is 100% installed, the contrast is 75%. The level of white 100 cd / sq. M. It was possible to achieve the brightness of 44% and the contrast of 45%. The brightness is regulated by modulating the power of the backlight lamp at 180 Hz.

When settings by default, the monitor brightness is more than 300 cd / sq. M, which is normal for watching movies, but too much to work - in the latter case, a comfortable brightness usually lies within 70-120 cd / sq. M. Contrast is very good - it almost reaches 800: 1.

When measuring dynamic contrast (this mode is switched on using the "MagicBright" button) on a black background, the calibrator showed zero brightness, so that the table introduced the minimum guaranteed value measured by it - 0.02 cd / sq. M. Accordingly, the dynamic contrast specified in the table must be read with the prefix "at least".

The monitor also has five pre-installed modes with brightness and contrast settings, quickly switched by sequential pressing the "MagicBright" button. Change their settings can not.

Brightness In all cases, it is more or less adequate to the name of the mode, except to make a note regarding "text" and "Internet" - the first is designed to work with the text in the conditions of good office lighting, for home it will be short, and the second is more suitable for watching photos Or even movies than to work on the Internet. However, nothing prevents the monitor to work manually, and in the "MagicBright" modes, when you need a big brightness - that is, in movies, games, or when watching photos.

The color reproduction modes "MagicBright" do not affect the exception that the specific value of color temperature is attached to each of them: "Warm" in Movie mode, "Cool" in Sport mode and "Normal" in the rest.

Uniform illumination

On white color, the average non-uniformity of the backlight was equal to 4.9%, the maximum deviation is 12.6%, on black - 5.0% and 17.8%, respectively. Indicators are quite good; However, in pictures built according to the measurement results, it can be seen that a light spot on a black background is highlighted in the lower half of the screen.

Color coverage

The monitor has a standard, uncapped color coverage. If you compare it with a typical color coverage of SRGB, then the last 2233rr is a bit inferior on blue color (because of this, the shades of pink and purple are worse, and the blue is a bit displaced toward turquoise), but surpasses on green and red.

Accuracy of setting Gamma.

When default settings, the monitor is slightly overestimated by contrast - this can be seen according to the characteristic gamma curves in the upper right side of the graph. In practice, this means that part of the bright shades is smoking with white ... However, it is unlikely that someone will work on 2233rr with factory settings, it is too jam.

When a decrease in brightness and contrast in the monitor settings, the right side of the curves comes to normal, but in general the gamma indicator is slightly understated - because of this, the curves take place above the ideal, and the picture on the monitor screen will look less contrast than.

Colorful temperature

Before us is a completely ordinary TN-matrix with a response time compensation. The average arithmetic response value was 3.2 ms (GTG), which is perfectly consistent with the manufacturer's promises, and the maximum fixed - 17 ms, and even then only in one transition, from the black on the dark gray color. In principle, a completely ordinary picture for a modern gaming monitor.

No errors of the response compensation scheme was not without errors: on average, its missions amounted to 9.6% - this is not very much, but it is enough for the artifacts in some situations noticeable, as I have already written above, in the "subjective part" of the article.

In addition to the usual measurement of the embossing RTC scheme in percent, starting from this article, we also introduce the measurement of this miss in milliseconds. I will explain his meaning.

This is a typical pattern of switching a pixel monitor from black on gray, removed using a photo sensor and an oscilloscope. Up to 40 milliseconds (horizontal axis of schedule) pixel was black, but then the team came to change color. The powerful pulse, formed by the response time compensation scheme, literally a couple of milliseconds transferred a pixel to the desired level (a little more than 160 units on the vertical scale of the graph), but it turned out to be too large - instantly "flying" this level, the pixel scored a noticeably large brightness, about 210 units . After that, he needed several tens of milliseconds to still return to a given level - and during this time the brightness of the pixel exceeded the necessary thing that looks like a wide and high hump in the graph. It is this hump and the reason for the appearance of light drivers known to us under the name of the RTC artifacts.

Thus, the RTC schemes, measured in milliseconds, is, in fact, the relaxation time for which the pixel will really install the brightness you need. And for the reason for the occurrence, and clean visually, this effect is different from the usual response time, so we will not summarize times.

Not a very joyful picture: The average relaxation time is 15.2 ms, which is five times (SiC!) More average response time of the monitor, and the maximum relaxation time may exceed 50 ms. Because of this, artifacts when operating a response compensation scheme and become visible to the eye.

Response time: 120 Hz

What will happen to the divorce 120 Hz? Judging by the subjective observations, when switching the frequency of the expandment, the RTC artifacts disappear - but what is the conditioned?

The response time changes slightly: on average, it turns out to be 3.3 ms (GTG), which is 0.1 ms more than with a 60-hertz wave - such a difference can also be written off to the measurement error.

The error of the response compensation scheme, expressed as a percentage, is slightly reduced: an average of 7.3%, at a maximum of about 40% - already better than at 60 Hz. But only this is due to the visual difference? After all, the numbers differ in general, little ...

And here we will also help the diagram with the relaxation time of these notorious RTC errors - it is specially built on the same scale as for the expansion of 60 Hz. See the difference? Then the average relaxation time was 15.2 ms, now 6.6 ms. Errors not just became slightly smaller in size - they are more than twice as fast as the screen.

Supplemented by a picture illustrating the movement of a black rectangle on a gray background with rash 60 Hz and 120 Hz. The rectangle smoothly moves from left to right, "snapshots" of its positions are made every 8.3 ms - with a period of updating the picture when weighing 120 Hz:

After the rectangle moved to a new position, a bright spot arises in its previous place - the consequence of the very "flight" of the pixel brightness due to excessively aggressive behavior of the response compensation scheme. The next frame is forcibly suppresses this stain (for simplicity, we assume that it is completely in practice that it is not always like this), but since during this time the rectangle again managed to move, then there is already a new one, in another place. Thus, behind the rectangle, its white shadow is an artifact of RTC.

Please note that when weighing 120 Hz, the gap between the change of the positions of the rectangle is twice as smaller than at 60 Hz, therefore, he has time to move on a smaller distance, therefore, the White Spot Width turns out to be twice as much!

But how we experimentally installed earlier, when weighing 120 Hz, it also goes out more than twice as fast. As a result, it turns out that the visual notice of artifacts at a twofold increase in the frequency of the expandment is not reduced in two, but at once four times. Excellent result.

Of course, it would be a mistake a priori. Distribute this conclusion to all monitors with a divorce 120 Hz - and such, we hope we will see a lot more - but on the example of Syncmaster 2233rr, it is perfectly clear that the new technology can give regardless of any stereo-glasses.

Conclusion

I confess: I myself did not expect that Syncmaster 2233rz will have such a pleasant impression on me even without stereo-glasses.

Unlike all previously tested monitors supporting stereo-mode, whether Zalman Trimon or IZ3D, Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ is not just not worse than the usual "flat" monitors - in its parameters, such as contrast, viewing angles, the color rendition is on The level of the best home models of LCD monitors built on the basis of TN matrices. You do not have to make compromises for the opportunity to look at the truly three-dimensional world in computer GamesYou just acquire a good home monitor, which can also be used in a pair with stereo glasses.

Moreover, the 120-hertz plunger gives serious advantages without any points. Reducing the response time we did not expect - it is so smaller than the expandment period even at 120 hertz, but strong decline The noticeability of the artifacts of RTC, which made them practically insignificant, turned out to be an extremely pleasant surprise. Such in our time is found, to put it mildly, infrequently: 3-MS matrix, which has no artifacts.

In addition, the 120-Hz expandment provides more smooth movement, and both in games and in normal operation - in the second case, it is, of course, not critical, but still noticeably with the naked eye and therefore can be fully related to the advantages of the monitor . The players of the model of LCD monitors with a divorce of 120 Hz may well quickly become a mandatory element of a serious gaming computer.

If we talk about prices for new monitors, then the manufacturer recommended by the manufacturer's value of SyncMaster 2233rz is $ 399 - $ 100 more than the usual 60-hertes Syncmaster 2233BW. The last at the time of the preparation of the article cost about 10 thousand rublesTherefore, Syncmaster 2233rz should be expected on sale at a price of about 13-14 thousand rubles. Nedlyozheno, but also the proven such cost, it is impossible to name - quite a reasonable markup for the ability to get an excellent game monitor with unique characteristics to date.

At the same time, the implementation of the 120-hertz dilution does not require any special technological delights, and therefore it is hoped that after some time the range of such models will increase significantly, and the gap in the cost with 60-Hz monitors - on the contrary, will be reduced to one or two thousand rubles. .

P.S. Although, of course, you should not forget about stereo-glasses. And we will dedicate our next article.

Many argue about what is better: the monitor is 120 Hz or 60. This article will help to answer this question. It contains information about what this very hertz is what and how much it affects and how these monitors differ. The pricing issue will also be affected by this species Technique. Reading this small article does not take a lot of time, but after that anyone can accurately answer the question.

What is hertz?

For those who, in principle, did not come across such a notion, it will be useful to know that in this way the physical value reflecting the frequency of some processes with periodicity is denoted. The unit of measure was established in honor of its discoverer, she was introduced into a convenience of the past 30th year of the last century. And after another thirty years, it was recognized as the most widely used indicator in the world and was introduced into the international system of units of measurement, also known as the SI system.

Hertz or, as more correctly, Hz is the number of repetitions per unit of time - a second.

Herthes, for example, measured the frequency of sound oscillations, the so-called sound height or a frequency of Amy in the entire well-known microwave oven.

But how can the unit of measurement of frequency to monitors apply? Consider more.

What does the monitor frequency affect?

To understand why the hertz are so necessary for the monitor, you need to recall why our eyes can see moving pictures on the screen. To create the illusion of moving, a number of static frames on which a certain action is selected are sequentially rushed in our eyes at a certain speed. It is very important that the interval between them was the same. In this case, our eyes do not have time to distinguish between the pauses between the frames, and they merge into one continuous action.

This was used in distant times to create an animation, which later became a reference point to create the first movie camera. This led to the then silent black and white, and then to the color, "talking" movie.

Approximately the same principle employs modern monitors. They flicker S. specified frequency, Measured just in Hertz, every time changing the picture and thus creating the illusion of movement, say, your mouse cursor.

Every one probably heard that a long time ago filmed and, accordingly, showed at the frequency of 24 frames per second, that is, 24 Hertz. Today, everything is different. For an ordinary monitor, the minimum working limit of this indicator is the frequency of two and a half times large than then, that is, 60 hertz.

This allows you to achieve greater quality of the picture - it looks smaller, clearer, more detailed and deeper. This is the key value of the hertes in modern monitors. What she is more, the picture is better.

60 Hertz against 120

However, it is not necessary to think that the picture on the 120 Hz monitor will differ much from the image in 60 hertz. In general, it will noticeably: improves the smoothness of the movement of objects on the screen, the clarity of the graphics will become somewhat better, the light effects in cinema and games will become more voluminous and realistic. However, this will be felt only with a detailed comparison. 120-hertz monitors certainly allow you to look at some things with new eyes. But you will notice the difference only if you put two screens that differ in the hertesov, and carefully look into the details.

In general, after a long-term use of a 120 Hz monitor, you are unlikely to want to go back to 60 hertz. You obviously do not get the pleasure of seeing the more "axis" picture, since the smallest difference in smoothness of the cursor movement will already be noticeable. After all, the eyes have become accustomed to see a better image.

120 hertz and more?

If you were not enough, then do not despair. To date, there are models with a truly cosmic value of the Herrents, passing over two hundred updates per second. Such monitors are not so much so common, but it becomes clear that simple 60 hertz for an ordinary user already has little. What to say about avid gamers, because for the gaming monitor, 120 Hz is no longer quite acceptable value. It does not always allow to fully appreciate the beauty of the location or cat scene. Also, a detailed drawing of characters, attributes and other plot elements is important in the game.

Price

Alas, as always, the issue of comfort is non-taxablely associated with cash costs. After all, what more feature The monitor frequency, the more technically perfect and, as a result, is more expensive than its less quick fellow. On average, the price of 120 Hz monitor is in the range of from 13 to 20 thousand rubles. The cost for some consumer layers is really significant, so it is necessary to think about the feasibility of such purchase three times. Someone would prefer to acquire less "smart" monitor, well, for someone personal comfort from the computer at a computer more significant than the prices of 120 Hz monitors.

Opening your laptop every time, we first throw a look at the LCD. Middle Panel or high-classPhysical permission Full. HD and anti-reflective coating are considered minimal requirements To the display of the gaming laptop. Some gamers also pay attention to the type of screen coverage. What else needs to know about the laptop display before buying? In this article we will tell you in detail about the key moments of such a question.

Dynamic blur and response time of the matrix

Before talking about the formation of color on the laptop display, let's remember the principle of work of the LCD panels. The problem of blurring images on LCD displays is well known to lovers of sports television programs, racing simulators and first-person shooters. Lubrication of the picture occurs when liquid crystals do not have time to change their position when changing one frame to others. At a frequency of 60 frames per second, each subpixel must change its light permeability for 16.7 ms (1 C = 1000 ms). If this process takes a little slower, a noticeable loop or shadow appears on the moving objects. In particularly severe cases, it is even possible to slow down the image.

The response time of the matrix today is used as a formal measure of measuring dynamic blur. But in fact, this is not a completely accurate indicator, since it characterizes the time of transition of the pixel from deep black to the most white. Thus, the real color image will be formed in different time. In most cases, the movement of objects across the screen is associated with a more subtle change in shades of gray, which can occupy a much longer time (in view of the principles of the LCD panels and technologies of their manufacture).

MSI Game Displays with Extreme Parameters 120Hz / 5 MC and 3ms

Over the past year, MSI presented a variety of gaming laptops with 120Hz / 5 MC panels (image update frequency / response time of the matrix), becoming the first brand that applied such extreme displays. The increased frequency of the screen update in combination with a reduced response time of the matrix provided a much clearer video with a higher detail of fast moving objects. Do you play racing simulators or enjoy watching the newest blockbuster, you will get completely new visual sensations thanks to a more lively and natural image and more sharp outlines of dynamic objects on the display of your laptop.

In addition, it is always interesting to try your favorite and new games on a higher class system. In addition to the characteristics of 120Hz / 3ms, MSI displays differ 94% NTSC color space. This parameter is especially important for specialists in computer graphics and photos, as it characterizes the total number of colors that can play the display. Simple languageThe wider color space and above its coverage, the natural image looks like a laptop screen. For example, if you put the MSI display next to the monitor, the color rendition is limited only by 50% NTSC, and open a photo of the green forest on them, then the difference in shades between the tops of the trees, the leaves and the dark boron will be much smaller. High color detailing causes a huge difference in visual perception of the picture. A display with a gamma color reproducible 94% NTSC is a completely different level of image quality. Users who were lucky enough to play or work on the LCD with a rich color range, will never want to return to a less advanced monitor, because they will always notice that colossal difference as color reproduction.

Modern filmmaking uses an unimaginable multitude of technologies, including technology for increasing the naturalness of color reproduction. Some of them are technology color calibration technologies, as well as image processing technology with a high dynamic range (HDR). Neither crazy special effects nor commercial installation, nor successful directories will not be able to transfer all the magnificence of the picture without good work with color. Since HDR video is becoming increasingly popular, we suggest a difference between the MSI 120Hz / 94% NTSC panel and the IPS panels of other brands on the example of a famous Hollywood film.

After checking the quality of the display of bright sections of the image, we will turn to the "shades". For example, we took another scene from the same movie. When some colors do not fall into a specific color model, they say that they are outside the color range. The image on the display of 94% NTSC appears more detailed and informative, thanks to which the viewer can see everything he wanted to show director.

Among the gaming laptops MSI panel 120Hz / 5ms is installed on the GT75 / GT73 / GT72, GS73, GE73 / GL72 model and GP72 / GL72. This is an optional possibility, so be sure to check the laptop specification before purchasing it. Moreover, the GS63 and GE63 models support the installation of the Optional Game Panel 120Hz / 3ms. The image quality on the displays of these laptops is too crazy for some users, so be careful with their purchase, as you will never want to have something less stunning.

Today we will look at another product from the IIyama company - the G2773HS monitor. I have already considered one representative of this line - IIYAMA E2773HDS-1. They differ in the focus on different segments of buyers. iIYAMA G2773HS Focused on gamers.

One of the main differences from the younger models of the line 2773 is the frequency of 120 Hz. Whether this will give an improvement to the overpayment of 4000 rubles (30%), we will see on the example of this test.
The frequency support of 120 Hz allocates it not only among the fellows, but also in the market of 27-inch models. Available - four more models, but they all go with the support of 3D technology. But is it necessary on the monitor without a volumetric picture? For me, so dubious advantage. I will try to justify my opinion: the frequency affects the number of updates for the picture per second. The history of this measure takes its beginning since the ELT TVs, for them it was characterized by 50 Hz. Monitors increased the frequency to 85Hz, and during when I started to get acquainted with the world of PC, the value of 100 Hz was considered luxury and the limit of dreams. There was time, technologies changed, LCD monitors appeared on the market, which began the systematic displacement of their "plump" fellow, the frequency of 75Hz became the norm for them. For the end user, lowering the frequency from the recommended value led to a noticeable flicker of the picture. On the same old monitors, the mark of 100 Hz created a sense of a static image. But with the arrival of the LCD, not only a new matrix and a reduction of thickness came, the principle of image output has changed. 60-75 Hz for new monitors already gives a static picture. The appearance of 3D technologies led to the need to increase the frequency up to 120 Hz, it concerns televisions, and monitors.

What gives the frequency of 120 Hz to the user, if 3D is not excreted, it is difficult to say, probably, hardly "superheroes" read this material, and even if they read, they will rather be disturbed by response speed. And all the others will receive an extra headache when setting up a monitor associated with obtaining this frequency at the output. First, it is supported only with DVI-D, secondly, if thin poor nVIDIA drivers It is supported, then AMD everything is very sad, and the setting ends with a banal tape measure and just luck.

Accessibility IIYAMA G2773HS

At the time of testing, the average cost of IIYAMA G2773HS, according to the Yandex.Market service, is 15,850 rubles.

The younger models of this line will cost customers 11,830 rubles. For IIYAMA E2773HDS-1 and 11,938 rubles. For IIYAMA E2773HS-1. In the meantime, only three are available from 27-inch models with 120 Hz: BenQ XL2720T (17,690 rubles), Samsung Syncmaster S27A750D (24 335 rubles), Acer HN274HBMIID (25 190 руб.). Distinguishes them, mostly support 3D. If, in the case of two last, the expediency of spending additional funds may be questionable, then with BenQ it is already more difficult to solve even 2,000 rubles and get a monitor with more "delicious" functional. You can, of course, talk about the weight of brands, after all, IIyama is a Japanese company, and in the eyes of my compatriots it is associated with high quality, but we will not hide that, according to polls of acquaintances, from the world of PCs, brands BenQ and IIyama Equally unfamiliar.

Complete set IIYAMA G2773HS

The first thing that stands out when meeting with IIYAMA G2773HS is a packaging. A simple faceless cardboard with a set of text and the company's logo remained in the past.

A monitor is supplied in a narrow black box with bright yellow applies.

The focus on the gaming segment gives a large letter G. Well, and, of course, marketers did not forget to mention and support 120 Hz.

Also on the package there is information on characteristics, model name and device code.

Inside detected: power cable, HDMI cables and DVI-D, instruction and flexible fastening for management cable.

Unlike IIYAMA E2773HDS-1, the manufacturer cleared and replaced the VGA cable on HDMI.

Exterior IIYAMA G2773HS

The overall appearance of IIYAMA G2773HS is a classic glossy monitor. Yes, yes, it is gloss, it's at the same time plus, and a weighty minus. A spectacular appearance with a frequent touch loses its attractiveness due to the presence of fingerprints .. I can not say that it is often able to wipe it with a cloth (which, by the way, is not included, although the microfiber would not interfere), chance at a satisfactory level. I think IIYAMA G2773HS will not have such problems.

The dimensions of the monitor are 647x455x239 mm at a weight of 5.60 kg.

The display matrix frames the perimeter glossy plastic with a minimum set of elements.

Before use, you will need to fasten the stand to the central sleeve. Make it easy. I recommend to do it carefully: plastic is used in the locking mechanism, relatively rigid, with a frequent analysis you can break the hooks.

It is possible to use the bracket, the holes in the monitor are made according to the VESA standard.

Returning to the monitor stand, the area of its contact surface allows the monitor to be sustainably accommodated on the desktop. The leg makes it possible to change the position solely only forward and forth within 20 degrees. In justification, I will say that such a mechanism simplifies the center of the panel.

At the top of the IIYAMA G2773HS there are ventilation holes. On the opposite side, the built-in acoustics is located, the quality of which is no different from other monitors and is located on a very mediocre level. High and low frequencies are absent, any, even superbudget columns or headphones will give a more rich sound. The question is why manufacturers continue to blindly equip LCD monitors acoustics and remains open.

In the upper left corner there is a model name, the company also makes two logos - one on the back side and one more on the frontal one.

All connection interfaces are displayed on the back of the housing, this is: HDMI, D-sub, DVI-D, audio input and yield 3.5 mm and power socket. Details are fitted tightly to each other, protrusions, screenshots and backlash. The only thing that I would like to see is a better matte plastic or at least a coating, such as the previously tested AOC D2757PH.

Management IIYAMA G2773HS

The IIYAMA G2773HS monitor settings are carried out using the five touch keys on the bottom of the monitor. Light indication has only the power button.

There are quick settings: sound control, source selection and color modes. I am pleased with the responsiveness of the monitor on pressing.

The menu transition takes place without delay. It lacks only the backlight of the control buttons, it complicates the process of setting in the dark. If you already need the presence of backlight, you can make it plug-in for a short time when you first click.

I will not stop at each point, it will not cause difficulties at the first acquaintance. The whole process of setting is intuitive.

The IIYAMA G2773HS monitor passed the full range of tests by us, for comparison I will give data from previously obtained testing on other solutions on the TFT matrix and the diagonal of 17 inches. In this approach, I am trying to find a solution, make a calculation of technical data, informative not only for savvy users.

Maximum brightness
IIYAMA G2773HS - 251 CD / m²

I failed to get the declared bar 300 for this monitor. Although the E2773HDs are closer to the E2773HDs, with which it is connected with - with a change of filling or problems during measurements, but I renounced the data again, and this is the average parameters. In general, 250 CD / m² is considered to be a comfortable level.

Brightness minimum
IIYAMA G2773HS- 0.29 CD / m²

It also happened here - the youngest model is more close to 0. Apparently, the frequency of 120 Hz led to its compromises.

Discussion of brightness
From the center to the edge of IIYAMA G2773HS-GB1 - 76%
Changing the brightness at an angle of 45 degrees IIYAMA G2773HS- 48%

But at the corners and uniformity of the brightness of IIYAMA G2773HS looks stronger. In general, the change is at the same level, this is due to the fact that the IPS matrix is used.

Contrast
IIYAMA G2773HS - 441

Temperature color
IIYAMA G2773HS - 6519K

Deviation of color from reference
IIYAMA G2773HS - 21K

According to the SIYAMA G2773HS color reproduction, also demonstrates better results.

SHIYAMA G2773HS delay
The obtained data is satisfactory, IIYAMA G2773HS can be viewed as a gaming monitor. For comparison, data obtained from other solutions on the same diagonal and matrix.
Delay, light tones IIYAMA G2773HS - 3.9ms
Delay, Dark Tones IIYAMA G2773HS - 12,1ms
Delay, mixed tone IIYAMA G2773HS - 9.9ms

The focus on the game segment was reflected in the reduced response time. Currently, this is the leader of our delay time rating.

Video Review IIYAMA G2773HS

Results by IIYAMA G2773HS

When summing up, I have a dual feeling after testing. And it is rather negatively painted. If, in the case of IIYAMA E2773HDs, I was completely satisfied and the monitor received a well-deserved award of the editorial office, then in the test of IIYAMA G2773HS, I was looking for an excuse for myself with a third value. And for myself, I did not find them, the amount of 3,000 rubles expedient will be expedient to spend on an SSD drive or a more powerful video card, saving and taking E2773HDs. 120 Hz in the case of IIYAMA G2773HS - it is rather simple marketing strokeSupported in video card drivers of this model to output this frequency in 3D mode currently not. Yes, and whether it is necessary to the gamers - a big question, a tangible difference may appear in games only at frame frequency more than 120 per second. If the system allows you to pull out 60 FPS from the game, the need for high frequency of the monitor is lost. Indirectly, this is confirmed by the developers of games and iron. I tried to find games where it is supported separately 120 Hz, and just did not find it.

Pros: build quality, good equipment, set interfaces for entering graphics, wide range Brightness changes, color reproduction, fast response, available cost.

Cons: no 3D with 120 Hz, the need for calibration, unstable color temperature, small viewing angles, glossy case, lack of backlighting menu buttons.
