Make sure the controller of this disk is enabled. During Windows installation, you make sure that the controller of this disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. Changing the style of the GPT on the MBR using Windows Disc Control

I have already mentioned SSD drives in my articles, I said that they are faster than usual and with their help you can upgrade a computer. And it would seem to install their trivial thing, which could be easier, take off the old hard disk, put a new SSD. You install Windows on it and rejoice, but in fact everything is not so simple. The fact is that in order to squeeze the maximum speed from the SSD disk (and otherwise it is necessary to use it), you need to switch to the AHCI mode in the BIOS (Advanced Host Controller Interface). And here they can begin surprises ...

So, I have an old computer that decided to profite and install an SSD disk. In BIOS switched the AHCI mode. To do this, I went into the BIOS (press the Del or F2 button (maybe other keys depends on the motherboard model), when you turn on the computer) in the "Main" menu chose "SATA Configuration".

And in "Configure SATA AS" chose "Ahci"

Saved the settings, rebooted the computer and started installing Windows. But it was not there, an error arose:

Started changing the BIOS settings, even updated his version The result was one- constantly appeared this error. As a result, I decided to select IDE mode and install Windows.
The installation was successful, then I decided to try to switch again to AHCI mode, but a similar trick failed and Windows simply did not boot (in principle I expected a similar result). Then I decided to do so - switch again to IDE mode, go to Windows and in the registry editor change the mode to ACHI.

Returning IDE mode, Windows has been successfully loaded, now it is necessary to make changes in the registry. To do this, open the registry editor - press the key combination "Win" + "R" and enter the REGEDIT.

In the Registry Editor, go along the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SYSTEM \\ CURRENTCONLSET \\ SERVICES \\ MSAHCI", find the "Start" parameter, open it with a double click. In the "Value" field, enter "0".

All, system can be restarted and set AHCI mode to BIOS. As a result, everything worked, SSD drive worked in ACHI Windows mode successfully loaded and worked at times faster than with a conventional hard disk.

So, if your old computer stopped pleaseing the speed of his work, installing an SSD disk, in my opinion, the perfect solution. But you do not need to forget about the minimum size of RAM - 2GB. Well, the processor is preferably 2 kernels at least 2 GHz.

I hope this article helped you avoid mistakes:

Installing Windows for this disc is not possible. Perhaps the equipment of this computer does not support the download from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

And helped product up your computer and increase its performance and speed.

Sometimes when installing Windows, including the 10th version, an error message is displayed on the screen. The text of the message is: "Installing Windows to this disc is not possible." In this case, the hard disk in the BIOS is displayed. It is also visible at the stage of installation of the operating system, where it could be divided into sections.

Such a problem occurs for two reasons:

  • the controller in the BIOS (AHCI mode) is disabled;
  • hard disk has that GPT.

Problem with AHCI mode

In addition to the error message informing that it is impossible to install Windows 7 or 10 to this disk, with difficulties with the AHCI mode, the computer cannot boot from the selected disk. The reason is that the controller may be disabled in the BIOS.

The problem is solved as follows:

Problem in GPT format

Another reason for the impossibility of installing Windows 7th or 10th versions with a display of such a message can be GPT - the format of the hard disk partition.

More recently, all the hard drives were the same type. The only partition of the sections was MBR. For the past few years, manufacturers gradually go to the release of Winchesters with a GPT format. But the boot files from the OS are not modified under new formats, and as a result, the error described above appears when installing.

The MBR (home boot record) is the program code and data required for the pre-start of the computer. They are in the initial marked sector of the Winchester. The start of the MBR begins after the initial analysis of the BIOS performance of all devices. The main feature is the definition of the location of the files that are needed to load the OS.

GPT is a new standard for placing the volume table. A standard built-in computers for computers replacing the BIOS was also developed. It was called UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

The problem arises due to the fact that the OS installer cannot be installed Windows into the specified partition, due to the fact that it does not fit the partition table.

There are 2 methods of fixing the problem:

  • installing a system to a similar disk;
  • conversion of the section in the MBR.

The choice of method must be due to the following rules:

  • if the computer supports the UEFI interface and it is necessary to implement the 64-bit OS (for example, Windows 10), it is recommended to apply the first option. Check for the presence of the UEFI interface is very simple. Graphic mode with the ability to control the mouse says the presence of UEFI;
  • if the computer is released several years ago, it has a BIOS and you need to install a 32-bit operational system from Microsoft, then the GPT transform in the MBR should be performed.

Using MBR limits some features such as:

  • their volume can not exceed 4 TB;
  • the maximum number of volumes on HDD is limited to 4.

Installation of Windows 7, 8 and 10 on GPT

Problems When installing OS on GPT Tom usually occur with those who want, install Windows 7, 8 and 10.

To install OS on that GPT, you must perform 2 conditions:

  • install 64-bit system (for example, Windows 10);
  • perform download to EFI mode.

If the first condition is not performed, which is to prepare the boot UEFI drive.

But in most cases, not only the second condition is not performed. Therefore, it is advisable to immediately go to the BIOS and check the settings.

The BIOS should set two parameters:

  • enable UEFI boot;
  • switch SATA mode in AHCI.

After saving the parameters, you can install the OS. Error will no longer repeat.

Tom GPT Conversion in MBR

Options for converting volume styles are several. Consider them in more detail.

Conversion to MBR when installing Windows through the command line

This method is optimal for use in a situation where the installation of OS, such as Windows 7, 8, 10, is impracticable due to the type of GPT volumes. It can also be useful not only when installing the OS, but also with the regular operation of the OS to convert non-system partitions.

We should not forget that when converting sections, all information from them will be lost. Therefore, all important is recommended to save in advance on the external medium of information.

To change the style of volumes with GPT in the MBR via the command line you need:

  • start the command line in Windows from the user with administrative rights;
  • to display the list of hard drives connected to the computer, enter the command "DiskPart" and "List Disk" command;
  • select a disk to change the style by the "SELECT DISK D" command, where D is the disk number;
    Then two options for the development of events are possible.
    1. perform a complete disk cleaning with the "Clean" command. At the same time, all TOMA HDD will be removed;
    2. you can remove the HDD volumes by one using the Detail Disk commands, Select Volume and DELETE Volume commands;
  • run the disk conversion in the MBR command "Convert MBR";
  • send from diskpart by selecting "Exit". Close the command line. After that, it is recommended to continue installing the operating system. The message about a similar error will no longer appear.

Create Tom on HDD You can choose from a volume selection window to install the item " Configure disk».

The change in volume style is completed.

Changing the style of the GPT on the MBR using Windows Disc Control

The alternative method of volume conversion requires a normally functioning OS of Windows 7, 8 or 10 on a personal computer. You can only convert a disc that is not systemic.

The sequence of action on the conversion of Tom HDD is as follows:

Utilities for changing the style of the section

In addition to the standard methods for converting the volumes of HDDs, provided for by Microsoft developers, you can apply third-party voltage control utilities of hard drives such as

During the installation of the Windows 10 operating system, various errors may occur. As a rule, they are associated with incorrect BIOS settings or incorrect operation of computer components or laptop. One of the frequent errors sounds like this: "Installing Windows to this disk is not possible. Perhaps the equipment of this computer does not support the download from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is included in the computer's BIOS menu. Yes, the trouble happens when the disc is really cut off and no longer works. But most often the reason in the other.

The most common reason, due to which this fault occurs is in the SATA controller settings when working with old hard drives. Try to start when you turn on the PC to enter the BIOS and change the operation of the controller with the ACHI on the IDE.

On more modern motherboards with UEFI, instead of a regular BIOS can help change work on Legacy mode.

If none of these manipulations helps, then return everything as it was. The reason is most likely in the other.

Sometimes the error "Make sure that the controller of this disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu," may appear because the hard disk boot record has shown and it must be restored. To do this, when you start installing the Windows 10 operating system, click on the "System Restore" button and go to the "Diagnostics" menu \u003e\u003e »Advanced parameters» \u003e\u003e »Command line», or simply press the SHIFT + F10 key combination. A black window of the Windows console will appear:

In turn, type the team:

Bootrec / FixMBr BootRec / FixBoot BootRec / RebuildBCD

Each of them must be completed successfully. After that, reboot the PC and try to start the installation again. Usually, the disk controller error in the computer's BIOS menu is solved and then everything goes without any problems.

Windows installation to disk is not possible

During the installation of the operating system, at the formatting stage of disks and create partitions, the user may encounter an error "Installing Windows to this disc. Perhaps the computer equipment does not support the boot from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is included in the computer's BIOS menu.

Why does such a mistake arise and how to fix it?

Ways to solve the problem

Often, an error when it is impossible to create a partition to install a new operating system, it occurs on old PCs with Windows 7. However, other operating systems starting with XP and ending with Windows 10 are also not insured against such a malfunction.

The following factors may be the cause of such an error:

  • Incorrect settings of SATA operation parameters;
  • Equipment specificity (availability of additional SSD and SCSI cards).

Method number 1. Through Biosa settings

To correct such an error, it is worth loading into the BIOS and set the IDE hard disk operation mode. To do this, carry out the following:

  • Restart the PC and press "F8" several times to get into the BIOS.
  • We find the "Advanced" or "Integrated Peripherals" section and select "SATA MODE" or "SATA RAID", "CONFIGURATION SATA" in it (path to settings depends on the motherboard model). Change the mode of operation with AHCI or the other on the IDE.

  • Click "F10" and reboot PC. We repeat the installation of the system.

If your PC has a new BIOS firmware, then instead of the IDE mode it is necessary to enable EFI boot. To do this, carry out the following:

  • Loading in Bois-UEFI and go to the "BOOT" section. We find the item "UEFI / LEGASY BOOT" and set "Enabled".

  • We maintain changes and reboot PC.

It is worth noting that the appearance of a new error is not excluded with this change, which is related to the MBR or GTP sections.

If an additional cached SSD or other drive is installed on your PC or laptop, it is possible that the problem occurs exactly because of it. To correct the problem, perform the following actions:

  • Determine the model and version of the device. Go to the developer's website and download the drivers that are sealed to the archive, and not laid out by a separate EXE. File.
  • Unpack files on the USB flash drive.
  • Run the installation of Windows. At the stage of selecting the volume, click on the "Download Drivers" button.

  • A new window will open. Press the "Overview" button and specify the path to the drivers. Click "OK" and "Next".

  • We repeat the attempt to select a volume to install the system.

Method number 3. If the error is associated with GPT or MBR format

If you have an error "Installing Windows to this disk during installation of Windows 7, 8 or 10. The selected disk has GPT sections style, "It is worth changing the GPT format to the MBR. To do this, perform the following actions.

  • Keep all the data from the disk C, as it will be formatted. It will also not prevent the saving of information from the local disk D.
  • Open the command line with the administrator rights and enter the following commands by order:
  1. diskpart;
  2. list DISK;
  3. select Disk number (specify the disk number to which you will install Windows and what problems arise);
  4. clean (will be cleared of the entire disk);
  5. cONVERT MBR (changed format);
  6. exit.

After formatting the partition it is necessary to restart the PC and repeat the attempt to install the OS.

You can also perform the same actions in a simpler way. In Bios in the "BOOT" section in the "UEFI / LEGASY BOOT" section and set Enabled, and in the "Secure Boot" - disabled. After that, delete all sections and create new ones. The format will automatically be changed.

Installing Windows for this disc is not possible. Check the BIOS setting

No comments: 4

Hello everybody! When installing Windows on a laptop, I have an error: installing Windows to this disc is not possible. Perhaps the equipment of this computer does not support the download from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

I read on the Internet, someone says that you need to switch from ACHI to IDE. Switched - did not help. I watched the BIOS settings, well, in the laptop it is so simple that in general there is almost nothing to choose ... I dropped the BIOS did not help ... then inserted back the disk with Windows and pressed the system recovery (this is where to install the button). Chose a team building. By the way, you can run it SHIFT + F10.

Write bootrec / fixboot. After that we try to install. I helped me.

The fact is that Windows could not find the bootloader and did not understand what to do. This is how the Windows installation error is solved on this disc.

Installing Windows for this disc is not possible.

When Windows 7 reinstalling the laptop has unexpected problems - the BIOS and Windows installer saw a hard drive, it was allowed to be placed, add / delete partitions, but then it did not go further, issuing a strange message. Message:

Installing Windows for this disc is not possible. Perhaps the equipment of this computer does not support the download from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

Why is it strange? In general, the support of the AHCI mechanism (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is declared from Windows Vista and the installation disk with Windows 7 licensed.

Well, God, God, you can seek to blame for a long time and stubbornly, it's easier to climb into the BIOS and switch the AHCI Mode Control C mode on. After that it will be possible to disable Native Ahci Mode. Subsequently, you can return the settings back by installing the system and all drivers.

Installing Windows for this disc is not possible (Solution) - Programming, Administration, IT

Installing Windows for this disc is impossible (solution)

In this instruction, it is reported in detail about what to do if the Windows installation is reported to you that it is impossible to install Windows into the disk section, and in details - "Installing Windows to this disc is not possible. Perhaps the computer equipment does not support the boot from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is included in the computer's BIOS menu.

If you still choose this section and click "Next" in the Installation Program, you will see an error reporting that we could not create a new one or find an existing section with a proposal to view additional information in the installation program log files. Below will be described how to correct such an error (which can occur in Windows 10 installation programs - Windows 7).

As the users are increasingly on computers and laptops, there is a variety of partition tables on disks (GPT and MBR), HDD operation modes (AHCI and IDE) and download types (EFI and LEGACY), and errors are raised when installing Windows 10, 8 or Windows 7 caused by these parameters. The case described is just one of these errors.

Fixing the error "Installing on this disc is not possible" using the BIOS settings (UEFI)

Most often, the specified error occurs when Windows 7 is installed on old computers with BIOS and LEGACY loading, in cases where the BIOS in the SATA device parameters (i.e. hard disk) is enabled AHCI mode (or any RAID modes, SCSI ).

Solution in this particular case - go to the BIOS parameters and change the hard disk mode on the IDE. As a rule, this is done somewhere in the Integrated Peripherals section - SATA MODE BIOS settings (several examples in the screenshot).

But even if you do not have a "old" computer or laptop, this option can also work. If you install Windows 10 or 8, then instead of incorporating the IDE mode, I recommend:

  1. Enable EFI boot in UEFI (if it is supported).
  2. Boot from the installation drive (flash drive) and try the installation.

True, in this option, you can meet another error type, in the text of which will be reported that the MBR partition table is located on the selected disk (the correction instructions are mentioned at the beginning of this article).

Why this happens and I myself did not fully understand (because the AHCI driver is included in the images of Windows 7 and higher). Moreover, I was able to reproduce the error and to install Windows 10 (screenshots just from there) - just changing the disk controller with IDE to SCSI for the Hyper-V virtual machine "first generation" (i.e. with bios).

Whether the specified error will appear when the EFI-download and installation on the IDE mode will not be checked, but I admit this one (in this case, we try to enable AHCI for SATA disks in UEFI).

Third Party Drivers AHCI Disc Controller, SCSI, RAID

In some cases, the problem is caused by the specificity of the user's equipment. The most common option is the presence of SSD caching on a laptop, multi-disc configurations, RAID arrays and SCSI cards.

The case described is just one of these errors.

Note: If the message that the installation on the disk is not allowed to be accompanied by an error information 0x80300002 or the text "Perhaps this disk will soon fail" - this may be caused by a poor disk connections or SATA cables, as well as damage to the drive itself or cables. This case is not considered in the current material.

Fixing the error "Installing on this disk is not possible" using the BIOS settings (UEFI).

Most often, the specified error occurs when Windows 7 is installed on old computers with BIOS and LEGACY loading, in cases where the AHCI (or any RAID, SCSI modes) is enabled in the BIOS in the SATA devices.

Third-party drivers of AHCI, SCSI, RAID drivers.

In some cases, the problem is caused by the specificity of the user's equipment. The most common option is the presence of SSD caching on a laptop, multi-disc configurations, RAID arrays and SCSI cards.

If you have reason to assume that the features of the equipment are the cause of the "Installing Windows Installation Not this Disk", the first thing should go to the official website of the laptop or motherboard manufacturer, and whether there are some drivers there (usually Presented as an archive, not installer) for SATA devices.

If there is - load, unpack the files on the USB flash drive (there are usually in and sys. Driver files are usually present), and in the section selection window for installing Windows, click "Download Driver" and specify the path to the driver file. And after its installation, it becomes possible and installing the system on the selected hard disk.

We hope that this material will help to cope with your problem. If you are issued, or there are additions, write in the comments.

How to turn on the disk in bios?

If you have a new disk on your computer, the old disk is defined, there are several ways to turn on the hard disk in the BIOS or turn on the disk controller. Today we will tell how to do it.

How to turn on the disk in bios

First you need to enter the BIOS. To do this, you need to press a specific key while booting a computer, in most cases it is the "DEL" button, but there may be another key or a combination of them.

Immediately after turning on the computer at the bottom of the screen, the message "Press Del to Enter Setup" usually appears or similar, at this point and you need to press the desired key.

In the window that opens, you must find the tab "Main" or "Standart CMOS Features", where the list of connected optical and hard media is displayed and make sure that the disk is not detected. That is, there is no it in the list of connected devices or if it is the only disk, in all points it is written "None".

  • If the SATA disk, you can check whether the SATA interface controller is enabled. In the "SATA Configuration" tab, the "Enable" item must be selected in the Controller string, if not, you need to select it. After that, you need to go to the previous tab and if the devices are still not, select the desired SATA connector and select Auto, after which the device must decide.
  • In the event that disconnecting the disk was preceded by someone interference in the BIOS setting, i.e. It was disconnected (how to do it here :), you can return the default BIOS settings by selecting the "Load Defaults BIOS" item, or similar depending on the BIOS version, for example: "Load Safe-Fail Defaults", etc.
  • If this is a new disk and it is defined in the BIOS, but not defined in the operating system, it is possible, it is not marked or has a file system not supported by your OS, then it must be formatted. How to do this right in this article -, be careful, formatting will destroy all the data on the hard disk.

If the above does not help you, especially if you have old equipment and connected several hard drives, the problem is most likely not in the BIOS. Try to do this:

  1. Turn off the computer and check the position of the jumper on the hard disk, if it is a second hard drive, it must be in the "Slave" position if the first "master". Information about the position of the jumpers is usually on the device lid.
  2. If you have an old IDE disk and is not detected even in the "Slave" position you can try to remove the jumper.

All actions need to be performed when off, de-energized computer. After each change, naturally, it is necessary to enter the BIOS and check the availability of the device.
