Programming of Ajetrays radios. Optimal model AJ-446 Connecting and disconnecting the battery

We present to your attention a new compact radio station Ajetrays AJ-446 supporting amateur bands LPD / PMR. The handheld transceiver covers the entire UHF range of 400-470 MHz. Ajetrays 446 transceiver with an output power of more than 4 watts, and 16 memory channels, by default, the first eight channels are programmed for license-free LPD frequencies of 433 MHz, the remaining eight channels are protected for the frequencies of the 446 MHz PMR range. confident reception speech is well legible and clearly audible. The AJ-446 transceiver (radio transmitter) can be operated in a wide temperature range of -30 ... + 60 ° С. The built-in speaker in the body of the radio with a power of 200 mW is quite loud, in case of use unlicensed radio station Ajetrays AJ446 in highly noisy locations.

Appearance and controls of the station Agetrace 446

Version 2 of the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio has a more streamlined body and better fit in the hand, in contrast to the previous angular model. In the upper part of the AJ-446 radio, there is also an SMA connector for a screw-on antenna, and a 16-position switch handle (for clicks) and a volume control, and the channel switching knob has become larger than the volume knob, this creates additional convenience for manipulation without a visual overview walkie-talkie Ajetays AJ-446. Changing channels during factory programming is voiced in English, if desired, this function can be disabled when reflashing the walkie-talkie. On the upper platform for the location of the main volume controls and channel switching, there is an indicator for transmitting / receiving. other functions can be assigned to these two buttons. On the right side of the Ajetrays AJ446 case there is a connector for connecting remote headset or push-to-talk, the socket has a rubber plug without a screw lock, this is a better solution when you need to quickly change the headset or plug it in without having a screwdriver at hand.

Ajetrays AJ446 delivery set

The standard delivery set of the Ajetrays AJ-446 portable radio station includes: the body of the Ajetrays radio station, a desktop charger with a 220 volt power adapter, a detachable UHF antenna, lithium-ion accumulator battery at 1200 mAh, instructions in Russian, a strap for wearing on the arm and a clip for attaching to a belt. The battery is fixed in the plastic grooves of the Ajetrays 446 radio station, the fastening is quite reliable, because the side of the case is designed with the entire area to hold the battery, in the upper part the battery contacts are snapped into place with a plastic lever, without backlash. The antenna comes with an SMA plug and is screwed onto the radio with a threaded connector. The accessory connector on the Ajetrays AJ-446 two-pin radio is suitable for headsets from the Kenwood and Adjetraise radio stations. The clip is fastened on metal contacts, which allows it to be used for a long time without damaging the case. Desktop charger with two-position indicator, in the process of charging it lights up in red, when the battery is charged, the indicator lights up green.

Preparing the radio Adjetrace 446 for operation

After purchasing the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio, remove the parts of the AJ-446 transceiver (radio body, battery, antenna, charger with adapter, etc.). Assemble the Ajetrays 446 station in a loaded state, connect the battery to the body of the radio station and screw on the SMA antenna. Before the first full cycle of operation, install the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio in the charging cup and fully charge the battery, in the charger you can charge the battery separately without the radio station. After charging the battery, turn on the radio, set desired channel and adjust the volume for comfortable hearing. It is not recommended, unless absolutely necessary, to constantly operate the radio at maximum volume, the received signal with a high decibel level can damage the speaker structure or damage it.

We present to your attention a new ergonomic walkie-talkie Ajetrays AJ 446. Like the older model portable radio station AjetRays AJ-344, station Ajetrays AJ-446 certified in Russia. The mere fact of having a certificate does not guarantee the quality of the product, but speaks of the seriousness of the supplier and care for the consumer. The fact is that the presence of a certificate automatically removes many questions to the user from the radio frequency center and other checking authorities.

The new Ajetrays AJ-446 radio station has many functions and a maximum transmitter power of up to 3.5 W, but first things first ...

Appearance, controls, ergonomics

The AjetRays AJ-446 station has a classic, austere design and a minimal set of controls. The radio is based on a high-strength metal chassis, which ensures the reliability and durability of the structure. The housing is made of high-strength plastic, has a rough surface, pleasant to the touch and does not allow the transceiver to slip out of your hands. Under the speaker slots there is a fabric glued on the inner side of the speaker grill, which prevents debris and dust from getting into the station case.

The AjetRays AJ-446 radio station is equipped with a Li-Ion rechargeable battery with a capacity of 800 A / h. Combined with the supplied quick charger, the rechargeable battery ensures sufficient continuous operation during a shift.

The top panel contains: an indicator light, an SMA-type antenna connector, a 16-position channel switch and a volume / radio knob.

An interesting feature of this model is the sounding of the channel number when you turn on the radio or when you change the channel. A female voice speaks the channel number on English language with a slight Chinese accent. Probably, in the near future we will receive a Russified version of dubbing. At least latest models Soontone-518 "speak" Russian. This feature can be disabled or selected in "English" by your dealer or distributor. If this function is disabled, when you turn on the radio or rotate the channel selector, there are no messages.

The sounding of channel numbers seems to be rather useful function rather than a marketing "trick", since it is quite difficult to distinguish between small numbers printed under the channel number selector knob, besides, only odd channels are labeled. In the dark or in insufficient lighting, the channel number in the absence of this function can be determined only by the number of clicks of the selector, having first turned it to the extreme left position and counting the channel number starting from the second.

The belt clip has a spring-loaded design with sufficient spring rate for a secure fit and a power reserve for comfortable use. The upper tongue of the clip has an eyelet for attaching a wrist strap. This design, in my opinion, is not entirely reliable, since the load from the strap is transferred to the clip, from the clip to the battery, and from the battery to the station body. However, the complete absence of backlash in the battery and clips, as well as high quality plastic allow us to consider this disadvantage insignificant.

Like the older model AjetRays AJ-344, the AjetRays AJ-446 comes with a flexible antenna 13 cm long. This antenna design, combined with a threaded antenna connector fixed directly to the metal chassis, provide this vital radio station with maximum reliability.

Functions and modes of operation

The AjetRays AJ-446 radio station has a minimal set of controls, which corresponds more to the professional purpose of the device than to the amateur one. Enough large set functions can be programmed from a computer. Moreover, the functions will be controlled by changing the channel or by a single function button located under the PTT button.

A feature button can be programmed to perform one of the following functions:

Key lock / Key lock and backup ... Holding the function button for 1 second will lock / unlock the radio buttons and the channel selector. If the button is programmed as "Key lock and backup", the lock will work until you turn off the power to the radio.

Monitor... After pressing the button and confirming the sound signal, the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio station will enter the signal reception mode without the programmed CTCSS or DCS codes. In other words, it is the function to disable the code squelch. To return to the mode of operation with code subcarriers, press the button again.

Monitor momentary... The function is similar to the previous one, but the code off mode is active only when the function button is held down.

Squelch off... Disable the squelch. An over-the-air noise will be heard when the function is activated. Used to receive very weak signals which are interrupted when the squelch is on. Go to normal mode by pressing the function button again.

Squelch off momentary... The function is similar to the previous one. Hold the button to listen to on-air noises. This function is programmed by default.

Scan... Scan is a function to search for a signal on all channels. During scanning, the radio checks for the presence of a signal on each channel and stops on the channel on which the signal is present. The radio stays on a busy channel until the signal is lost. Press the function button to start scanning. Scanning is performed by enumerating channels, starting from the current channel in ascending order of channels. Press the button again to stop scanning.

Priority scan... If a priority channel is programmed in the radio, the radio automatically switches to this channel when a signal appears on it, even if the current channel also has a useful signal. The radio will remain on the Priority Channel until the signal is lost and after the signal is lost for the programmed delay time. Then scanning will resume.

Scan + temporary delete... "Temporary exclusion of a channel from scanning", that is, the ability to temporarily remove a channel from scanning. When scanning has stopped on a channel, the channel can be removed from scanning by pressing the function button. To return a channel to the scan list, simply exit scan mode, or turn off and then turn on the radio.
The priority channel cannot be removed from scanning.

TOT... The transmission time limiting timer is designed to prevent one of the users from occupying the channel for too long. If continuously transmitting more than the set time, the radio will stop transmitting and beep sound signal... Release the PTT button to turn off the beep. You can then resume transmission by pressing the PTT button again. The TOT function is programmable using a PC.

Busy Channel Lock... This function is programmed from a computer. If no CTCSS or DCS tones are programmed on the selected channel, the radio will not be able to transmit if it is receiving.

Tone Squelch (50 CTCSS, 107 DCS)... Some channels can be programmed with CTCSS or DCS signaling. CTCSS or DCS tone is a tone that allows you not to hear signals encoded with a different tone or no tone. This is necessary when several user groups work on the same channel. If a channel has tone squelch set, the radio will only receive the signal containing the corresponding tone.

Likewise, the transmitted signal will be heard only by those channel users whose reception tone matches the transmission tone of your radio station. If the receive tone is not set, you will hear all signals, regardless of whether they are tone encoded or transmitted without a tone.

Battery saving mode... The battery saving function reduces the current consumption in standby mode (when there is no reception, transmission and button presses). The radio automatically enters the low current mode 10 seconds after it stops receiving or the last time you press any button.

Cable cloning... The radio allows you to copy all the programmed functions of another radio using a cloning cable (not included).

The VOX mode stated in the instructions is not implemented in this modification. Perhaps in future versions this function will be present.

What's inside?

The AjetRays AJ 446 radio station is a solidly assembled device, at the base of which is a sturdy aluminum alloy chassis. The assembly and soldering of the elements were also made of a fairly high quality.

The body parts fit tightly together to provide satisfactory dust and splash protection. The radio does not have a rubber seal around the perimeter of the case, which in practice is more of an advantage than a disadvantage. The fact is that it is not possible to provide complete moisture insulation in radio stations of this class. However, some models are provided with a hermetically sealed enclosure halves using a rubber seal, and have holes in the enclosure for controls and a speaker. If moisture gets into such a radio station, it accumulates in the lower part of the case, where it causes corrosion of the printed circuit board elements.

The Ajetrays AJ-446 station has a receiver with a sensitivity of 0.2 mV (12 dB SINAD), the transmitter power is 3.5 W. The weight of the radio station with antenna, clip and battery is only 190 grams.

Who is our competitor?

The closest competitors are the Vector VT-44 Master and Optim WT-555 handheld stations. One could also note the Soontone 518 and its version, imported to Russia under the Kenwood brand, but due to its low reliability, this model is gradually leaving the market.

Vector slightly outperforms AjetRays AJ-446 in terms of price, but loses in terms of power and communication range and a little in terms of functionality.

The Optim WT-555 radio is also slightly cheaper, has the same functionality as AjetRays, which can be controlled using the existing buttons and display. Optim WT-555 station has used O higher power (4 W) and b O Larger battery capacity (1100 mAh).

However, most industrial applications require a minimal set of controls and sufficient transmitter power. Then the station AjetRays AJ-446 becomes the only alternative. The radio station is perfect for security guards, warehouse workers, supermarkets, homeowners' associations, builders, athletes, tourists, hunters and fishermen.

Wearable Walkie Talkie Ajetraise AJ 446
AJ-446 v2 remake comparative review

The model of the compact walkie-talkie AjetRays 446, which began to gain popularity, was replaced in 2010 by its updated version. The updated model immediately attracts attention with its modern design, which at the same time inherited the brevity and utility of the previous version. The body of the radio station has more rounded outlines and smooth lines. From a technical point of view, the new model retains the classic solutions that have become familiar and have stood the test of time.

Appearance, design

The body of the Ajetraise station AJ-446 is made of black durable plastic with a leather-like texture. There is a fine metal mesh under the speaker slots to prevent debris from getting into the radio case. In the previous version, a fabric glued along the inner side of the speaker grille was protected from small debris and dust. It's hard to say which solution is better. On the one hand, the fabric better protects against dust, on the other hand, in the event of peeling from the case, the fabric can rattle and introduce sound distortions in the loudspeaker operation.

The shape of the case is made taking into account ergonomic requirements. The body of the Agetraise fits comfortably in the hand, its slightly widened upper part and the relief on the sides of the lower part prevent the radio from slipping out of the hand. The weight of the radio with a belt clip and antenna is 203 g. Previous model in the same configuration weighed a little lighter - 191 grams. Despite this, the mass of the radio is within the limits characteristic of most modern compact transceivers.

The clip is attached to the back of the battery with two screws included in the kit. V old version the clip was snapped into place with a slide

Antenna

The antenna is flexible enough, has a smooth surface and a rounded top, which will positively affect the usability and ease of removing the radio from under clothing. Compared to the previous version, the AjetRays AJ-446 antenna is 2 cm shorter and 11 cm long. Antenna connector - SMA female (the old version had a male). Thus, antennas from older versions are incompatible with new model... When ordering mobile or fixed antennas this feature should be taken into account.

Governing bodies

The Ajetraise walkie-talkie has a classic right-handed control stick arrangement. The antenna is on the left and the handles are on the right. In this configuration, it is convenient to hold the radio station in the left hand, and switch modes with the right.

The top panel of the radio contains a 16-position channel switch, a power knob / volume control and a three-color mode indicator. The channel number font is larger and more legible than the previous version. The knob for switching channels does not have a relief mark of the position, as in the previous version, but only. But the handles themselves are slightly larger. As in the first version, the channel numbers are announced in English when switching. The Russian-speaking version has not yet appeared. In general, switches are not difficult to use.

On the right side of the body of the Adjetraise radio station there is a jack for connecting a headset or an external PTT. The connector is protected from moisture and dust by a rubber plug. In the previous version, the plug was made of plastic and was fixed with a screw for a Phillips screwdriver.

On the left side there is a PTT button and two additional buttons, the functions of which depend on the programming of the radio station. The PTT button is embossed and is convenient to use as right hand(index finger) and left (thumb). By default, the lower function button enables the “monitor” mode (disables the squelch), and the upper one enables the “Alarm” mode. In the previous version, there was a single functional button responsible for the "Monitor" mode.

The function buttons and PTT are also used to program the radio's operating modes. So, for example, by setting the 16th channel, turning on the walkie-talkie simultaneously with the pressed PTT button switches output power the radio station transmitter, the lower function button turns on channel scanning, and the upper one switches the audio language of the channel number (English / Chinese / mute). Those interested can learn to count to 16 in Chinese))).

Battery and charger

The battery of the updated version is also lithium-inon, but has a large capacity - 1200 mAh versus 800 mAh in the previous version. As in the older version, the battery has a slide in the lower part for charging in a glass separately from the station. By the way, when charging together with the radio station, fixation in the charging cup occurs due to the same battery sled, and a gap is formed between the front wall of the station and the glass. Probably an enlarged socket charger was done with the expectation of using also batteries of increased capacity and, accordingly, increased size.

With a standard battery, the AjetRays walkie-talkie can be put into the charger in two ways - closer to the back wall (charging mode) and closer to the front wall (without charging). Despite the seemingly insignificant feature of this feature, in practice this possibility turns out to be very useful. Often, users, using a walkie-talkie in the immediate vicinity of the charger (at the base), every now and then, after conducting a communication session, return the transceiver to the charging cup. In this mode, there is a "memory" effect when the battery is not completely discharged, but already ceases to bear the load. Despite the fact that Li-Ion batteries the memory effect is insignificant compared to metal hydride and nickel-magnesium batteries, however, it should not be neglected. And the "life" of the battery does not increase the constant charge.

The batteries have different fastening locks and are not interchangeable. In the new version of Ajetrays, the battery is inserted into the grooves in the lower part of the radio case and snapped onto one latch from above. In the previous version, the battery in the upper part of the radio case was fastened with two latches on the sides of the battery, to remove which it was necessary to squeeze two latches at the same time. It is difficult to say which design is more reliable, but a new version definitely more convenient.

Specifications

In terms of connection quality, the new AJ-446 Ajetraise is not inferior to the previous version. Good speech intelligibility is ensured by high sound quality despite the lack of a built-in function digital processing voices (compader). The sensitivity and selectivity of the receiver are within the same limits as in the previous version, which provides high level reception.

As for the output power of the transmitter, it is twice as high for the new station. The declared power of AjetRays is 4 watts. The output power of the sample was found to be 5 W. Undoubtedly, this will have a positive effect on the radio communication range.

The AJ-446 radio has the ability (without programming from a PC) to switch the transmitter power (high / low), which will allow using the station in the maximum range mode or in the battery saving mode. Different channels can be programmed different level power.

Programmable functions

The radio station has a wide range of functions programmed from a computer:

  • 50 CTCSS / 107 DCS coding tones
  • channel scan
  • priority scan
  • transmission limiting timer (TOT)
  • busy channel blocking
  • battery saving mode
  • "repeater" frequency offset for communication through a repeater

Package Contents and Compatible Accessories

The delivery set includes:

  • Transceiver
  • Antenna
  • Clip for fastening the radio to the belt
  • Wrist strap
  • Desktop Fast Charger with AC Adapter
  • Accumulator battery
  • User guide

There is no ganitar in the package. Other radios usually come with cheap "entry-level" headsets.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to note that the new version of the AJ-446 is in the same price category as radio stations Optim WT-555, Vector VT-44 Master. With a solid feature set, superior communication performance and a rigorous utilitarian design, AjetRays is an excellent choice for industrial and residential applications. The radio is perfect for security guards, warehouse workers, supermarkets, homeowners' associations, builders, athletes, tourists, hunters and fishermen.

About the need reliable communication during hunting, fishing, hiking, a lot has been said and written, including in our magazine. Therefore, I would not like to repeat myself. Let's just say that in most cases, the presence of a walkie-talkie not only significantly saves time and effort, but also helps to get by with small losses in an extreme situation. Sometimes the life and health of a person literally depends on the ability to communicate by radio station.

Therefore, we will take for granted the formula to do without a walkie-talkie while hunting, fishing or traveling is possible, however, its presence creates additional convenience, and sometimes it can seriously help out in an emergency situation. Any hunt, especially for a hoofed animal, has its own history that is different from other hunts. It is impossible to predict its course, the behavior of the beast is almost always not standard. On a collective hunt, there is a need to adjust general actions constantly. But how to do it if mobile connection most hunting grounds are absent. The answer is clear - you need a walkie-talkie that can close the problem.

What real hunter doesn't want to have a good and stable connection on the hunt. But the question is: how not to make a mistake when buying? It's not the price that scares you, but the wide range of choices. We agree that the risk of being wrong is great. You can pay a high price for all sorts of "bells and whistles" in a walkie-talkie that does not have sufficient power or the necessary communication range. And I want to buy an easy-to-use walkie-talkie, even with a minimum of technical capabilities, but powerful enough and providing the desired range. Hunters are not inclined to make their choice in favor of "bells and whistles", but for the most part they are also not inclined to give up "useful" ones.

The compact walkie-talkie Ajetrays AJ-446 that has appeared on the market has already aroused increased interest among hunters and, especially, among the gamekeepers of hunting farms, as it combines high reliability and ease of use. The main thing that interests hunters is, of course, the "range" of the radios. It is important for yourself to determine the required maximum radius of stable communication, which you count on when purchasing a walkie-talkie. And, of course, it would be interesting to try and see how the radio will show itself in action in the field. That is why the editorial staff went to the hunting grounds, taking with them two brand new Ajetrays AJ-446 radios.

During the test, the task was not set to check the passport characteristics. We were mainly interested in consumer qualities and the possibility of successful use of radios in driven hunting for ungulates (elk, wild boar, deer, etc.), where the communication range, as mentioned above, is of paramount importance. The beaters often move away from the shooters on the license plates for considerable distances - up to five kilometers or more. In the case when the animal does not want to follow the path outlined by the beaters to the arrows and changes direction, it is necessary to promptly give the command to quickly change its position and intercept the prey. It is a shame when there is no way to do this. Here you need a walkie-talkie capable of covering this distance and providing good communication. It is for use on driven hunts that hunters most often acquire walkie-talkies.

During the tests of the Ajetrays AJ-446 radio, no special emergency situations occurred. A corral, like a corral, nothing out of the ordinary. Hunting grounds represented an area crossed by streams and small ravines without sharp depressions and hills, covered with mixed forest. The sun was shining, but it was rather cold: at least minus three. The maximum distance from the beaters to the shooters in a straight line, which was recorded by the navigator, is 4.8 km, the maximum is 5.3 km. Communication at these distances worked perfectly, despite the low temperature and high humidity of the forest. 40 minutes after the start of the corral, a quiet shot slammed from the side of the beaters, announcing the beginning of the corral. Soon the walkie-talkie started working: "There are traces, they are coming to you, meet the beast." The riflemen tensed, threw up their barrels and concentrated. It became audible how the dogs started working. How important is it for a hunter to get such simple information... The result - a successful hunt, the herd of wild boars was met fully armed. We closed three licenses. Again, the final command sounded over the radio: “Hang up, the hunt is over. All move towards the base "

There is a security service at any hunting, fishing or tourist base to keep it in proper condition and maintain order. Operational contact, as a rule, is carried out by internal telephone communication, which, unfortunately, does not fully satisfy all the needs necessary for the well-coordinated work of the team. Mobile telephony is often not available or works only in certain points of the territory. But the use of walkie-talkies completely closes the issue of operational communications on the territory and beyond. Imagine a typical situation. Base camp, where groups leave in different directions at the same time - hunters to hunt, fishermen in boats on the river and a group of different ages with baskets in search of mushrooms or berries. Base employees are required to ensure the safety of all their customers. Radio communication is the only guarantor of prompt assistance. If necessary, the radio makes it possible to freely contact hunting comrades or transfer to the base necessary information about people who find themselves in a difficult situation. But even if the base has the required number of radios, it must be borne in mind that the range and quality of radio communications in real conditions depend on many factors. From the weather, terrain, the presence of large objects or power lines in the path of a radio wave, and even from the time of day. So if you try to contact a hunting companion while in the car, it is better to go outside or purchase and install on the car car antenna... The range and quality of the connection will improve. The user of the walkie-talkie should also take into account the fact that the higher the antenna, the further the communication.

The main factor that can increase or decrease the range of the radio is, of course, the terrain where the transmission is being carried out. In hilly terrain, a good result can be obtained if both hunter subscribers are on the tops of the hills. The result will be disastrous if at least one of them ends up in a ravine or deep hollow.

Our radios worked in the LPD range, in which communication in the forest should be somewhat inferior to communication in a tree-free space in terms of indicators. In fact, in a slightly hilly deciduous forest in clear weather, the maximum communication range on the AJ-446 radio was a little more than 5 km, and on a treeless plain in line of sight, almost 7 km. Distances were measured using GPS navigators... Tests of AJ-446 walkie-talkies have shown that they can be recommended for hunters, fishermen, tourists, workers of hunting bases, gamekeepers, game managers as an inexpensive high-quality communication tool for organizing hunting, for transmitting operational information, for helping people in difficult situations. ...

Experts recommend, if necessary, to increase the communication range by using basic external antennas, which are installed on the roofs of the administrative building of the base, on a car, an all-terrain vehicle or on ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, etc. In this case, the range of radios increases significantly.

For the test, we used only one model most suitable for hunters. Ajetrays LLC offers a whole line of walkie-talkies of various applications, which can be found on the digging website www.AJETRAYS.RU.
