Crane Plus is a new stabilizer from the well-proven Zhiyun-Tech company. New modes allow you to control the camera movements as never before. MotionMemory allows you to pre-save the sequence of movements and run them at the right time. This mode will also be useful for interval shooting with gradual pan. POV mode allows you to tilt the camera to the side (from the horizon line) at an angle to 45 °, which will allow the movement dynamics with sharp deviations or turns. Intelligent tracking mode allows you to visit an object through an application for a smartphone, after which the application will control the movement of the camera: Thus, for example, you can shoot your tricks without an operator by installing a stabilizer on a tripod, or make impressive circular circumfers (similar functionality is available for Crane 2 with last updates).

Crane Plus compensates for the offset of the camera in 3 axes. The model is designed to work with photocameras with replaceable optics. Each of the axes is free to full 360 °. The control on the handle allows not only to direct the camera to the desired side (using the joystick), but also zoom the lenses with a motor drive of the zoom (Power Zoom, only for compatible Sony cameras). Camcorders can be adapted with handicrafts (it is necessary to use a longer platform and counterweight). Zhiyun Crane Plus instantly reacts to any movements, completely eliminating the shallow shiver and making the operator movement as smoothed as much as possible. Motors work almost silently, they control 3 parallel 32-bit microprocessor, one for each axis.

Camera control: Zhiyun Crane can manage individual compatible cameras: Panasonic GH4, Sony RX, H, QX series compacts, and alpha system chambers. Available operations: shutter descent and start / stop video, as well as zoom (Sony only).

Nutrition: Despite the fact that Sony cameras can be connected to Crane PlusPo cable, the camera is not possible from the stabilizer. This feature is implemented in the following model, Zhiyun Crane 2.

The stabilizer can be remotely controlled by Bluetooth - through the application for the smartphones Zhiyun App (iOS, Android) or using the remote control (sold separately). Are there external differences? Very minor. All Crane Plus hull lines completely repeat the Crane V2 form. And if so, the Plus inherited the main rule of work with this ruler - do not close to the upper boundary of the load, leave the power reserve.

As already mentioned, the case remained the same, therefore, the new steadics and in folded form are significantly less than Zhiyun Crane 2. However, the foam rubber who began to wear a month on the second, replaced with EVA. And there were more finger cuts.

But the equipment really pleased. The standard set appeared a tripod, which was not enough in Crane v2.0, especially when installing and balancing the camera. By the way, this tripod this is exactly the same as the eldest Crane 2 is completed - a good, metallic, which can be trusted.

From Crane 2 of it, however, will distinguish the lack of a synchronization cable with Canon cameras, as well as the second generation cable multiUSB with the camera charging support. From here we can conclude that, despite the possibility of installing heavier models, Crane Plus will still not be positioned as steledons for DSLR.

Before continuing, we mention that all the stages were tested using Sony A7S + SIGMA 35 1.4 with a converter. The total weight of the kit amounted to 1331 gr.

If you are familiar with Zhiyun Crane v2.0, the Plus will be as familiar. He also sits in his hand, also responds to turns, requires the same manipulations when installing and balancing the camera (although with a tripod all this is much more convenient and safer).

The difference begins to be felt as soon as the movement went. Perhaps the feeling is and subjectively, however, when using this kit with Crane v2.0, the motors settings were raised to High, and still did not leave the feeling that the weight is very close to the upper border. At the same time, with the Crane Plus "Pendulum" did not occur even with the Low level of motors.

What will distinguish - the slopes of the camera up. Now the angle can be controlled not only by the joystick, but also to tilt or lifting the lens with your fingers, as is implemented in Crane 2.

The first two modes are the same as in previous models - the tracking and blocked. On double pressing, a familiar to us unlocked mode is turned on, and along the triple stabilizer will unfold 180 degrees.

The new POV mode follows the second, that is, it turns on after the third click on the MODE button. And this is really a very cool mode of operation, which gives a lot of freedom to the operator! It is unlocked by the horizon and the ability to create more realistic frames, which look particularly well in the dynamic scenes.

There is so far that officially not confirmed rumors that POV mode will be added in Crane 2 with a new firmware. What, really wait!

However, it should be borne in mind that in POV mode is unlocked not only the horizon, but also the slope, and the joystick is not responsible for anything. For shooting right in front of them, the handle must be strictly vertically, and the slightest movement of the hand will strongly change the angle.

Therefore, the two-handed holder will become an indispensable assistant when working in POV mode with Crane Plus.

You can talk about how well PLUS stabilizes to talk long, but it will be only an expression of opinion. Therefore, we removed several scenes under the same conditions and with the same settings of both stabilizers and cameras. In the test, all three models were attended - "Old" Zhiyun Crane V2.0, a new Zhiyun Crane Plus, as well as the flagship Zhiyun Crane 2.

Questions to Zhiyun Crane Plus

After unpacking and testing, Crane Plus has several questions to Zhiyun.

The main and most weighty one - why did you leave the old platform? Why not installed Manfrotto, as in Crane 2? Of course, you get used to good enough, and before the release of Crane 2, the V2 site did not seem so bad. That's just Zhiyun because there has been this technology for a long time, and they know that the manfrotto work is much more convenient!

Indication of modes. With an additional POV mode, it became more difficult to navigate the mode, in which mode now is the steadics. Especially if they have to switch within the same scene. For CRANE 2 it will not be a problem, because There mode is displayed on the display. But Crane Plus has only one LED and now it shows the level of charge batteries. The only way to learn the mode is to bring Stub in motion and see how he behaves.

Why no cable for Canon? Yes, Plus has no Wheel Fallow Focus, like Crane 2. However, with a new mechanical focus, and with such a lifting capacity, the trimmed equipment looks already artificial.

Where to put the battery? Seriously. Small question, but what if you have 2 sets? In the previous version, the cutout in the case under the handle was longer, because one set could not be taken out of it, and the second is to invest in the appropriate cells. With Crane Plus, such a "lifehak" will no longer be passed without finishing the case. Particularly strange it looks against the background of the fact that in Crane 2 there is a selected place for 3 (!) Battery sets.
