And its capabilities can be extended at the expense of plug-ins. This article will be devoted to meeting the most interesting of them, but at first we will briefly focus on the types of plug-ins and nuances of their installation.

What are the plug-ins and how to install them

There are four types of plugins to TC: archived plugins (have WCX extension), file system plugins (WFX), internal viewer plugins (WLX) and content plugins (WDX). Archivator plugins are used to work with archives that initially not supported in the file manager or supported with limitations. In addition, with the help of archiver plugins, support is implemented with a number of other file formats - CHM, MSI, ICL, DLL, etc. The file system plugins are available in TC through network (Fig. 1) and provide access to disks, remote systems, internal Windows modules, media with other file systems. Today there is no one hundred plugins to TC, and it is impossible to simply transfer them within the framework of the article, and there is no particular sense, because there are quite a few plugins if they do not duplicate each other, then have a very close destination. We will dwell only on those solutions that can be interesting to a wide range of users.

You can install plugins automatically and manually. Work with CD / DVDs and images

But, as you know, there is no limit to perfection, and, having remembered this truth, the developers shifted "finalizing" programs on the shoulders of users themselves. With the help of additional modules or simply speaking plugins, Total Commander can be turned into a multifunctional Swiss knife, in which there are tools for all occasions. Moreover, some plugins not only expand the potential of the program, but can even serve as a reason to abandon some programs that previously had to use. Configuring Internal Associations is available from the "Files" menu. All the files you open in Total Commander using a double click can be associated i.e. Configure them opening any programs on your computer.

Work with archives

You can pack (Alt + F5), unpack (Alt + F9) and check (ALT + SHIFT + F9) archives using archive plugins installed in Total Commander. In addition, you can enter the inside of the archives as in ordinary folders, which saves your time significantly.
