How to put keys on a laptop. How to insert a button on a laptop keyboard? How to make a new button yourself

A laptop is a very popular type of computer. Mobile, thin, fragile, sometimes it needs repair. The keyboard in it, alas, is a weak spot in the case. The situation is worse only with the matrix.

It is through the keyboard that the a large number of dust, litter, lint. The cooling system is not able to repel them in such an amount. You can accidentally spill liquid on the keyboard at any time and, alas, it will not protect against moisture.

If you constantly print something on a laptop, and not just copy, the letters are erased, they may fall out. The question is logical - is it problematic to insert the key into place if it fell out? Should you carry your laptop to repair in this case? What breakdowns can you really fix yourself? Sometimes it is very important that the equipment looks decent and is well-groomed. This is a striking accessory. It is wise to be able to solve some problems on your own.

Visit to a PC repair technician

A dropped button in very rare cases may be the result of a manufacturer's error, claim to warranty service... The probability that this is exactly the case is minimal, but there is. None of the well-known factories is inclined to copy such an error, to put it on stream. A failure is possible. The most common causes are mechanical damage. Regardless of whether it is Asus, Acer, Lenovo or HP, this part is easy to catch, wiping off dust, printing a document. A solid object can fall under it and when pressed, it will bounce off. A child or pet will easily tear it off.

Rarely there is a desire to contact a PC repair technician with one dropped button. There are many reasons for this, and the usual work situation turns into daily discomfort. Alas, equipment often breaks down at the most inopportune moment and in general you want to carry it anywhere. And the master will most likely suggest replacing the entire keyboard. Why? Because there is simply no such spare part as one letter. However, this does not mean that it cannot be found. It is impossible to use the equipment when it is partially faulty. Why wait until all the letters bounce off and you can't choose which ones to press - with or without plastic? It is difficult to travel with such a laptop, it must be hidden.

It is important to remember that the dropped button has value in itself. It should not be thrown away immediately, rationally found if it is lost, carefully examine it - to find out the causes of problems with fixation.

A PC repair specialist can take spare letters only from equipment purchased for spare parts. It may not be exactly what is required. Some letters fly off more often than others due to regular keystrokes. higher frequency... Nobody chooses what to press, writes, how to write. Asus, Acer, Lenovo, HP and other laptops have different sizes, designs, different keys. But it's not just Asus that is different from Acer. There is no such thing as inserting a button on a keyboard Asus laptop, be sure to add the second part of the title. The model within the framework of one brand determines which buttons are to be inserted on the keyboard now. These are very large and miniature, and even of different colors. They may simply not fit or fit, but spoil the look.

The manufacturer is not inclined to copy buttons. And paste on the keyboard different models the same ones are a problem. There are situations when it is really reasonable to change the keyboard, buy a new one, branded, ideally suited.

Element device

The photo shows how the laptop button works. After watching the video, you will be able to form your own opinion as to whether self-repair is real.

The part consists of three parts:

  1. The outer plastic cover is the surface that usually flies off. On the inside, it is equipped with four notches. The so-called swing is inserted into them. The plastic tabs that form these grooves could break. In this case, all attempts to put the button in place are useless - superglue is not relevant here.
  2. The so-called swing - the white part that regulates the spring effect is located under the cover. A swing is a fragile, delicate element. They resemble the wings of a butterfly, consist of two parts that are securely connected to each other. They break easily. The stencil on which the letters are attached has special aluminum holders for the swing. If they break off, the letter will no longer hold. Only replacing the entire keyboard is a way out.
  3. Rubber spring attached to the keyboard's plastic stencil. This element ensures the presence of contact when pressed, transmits a signal from the user to the technique. Most likely, it is intact, because it is difficult to damage it - as they say, there is nothing to cling to.

After examining the flying letter carefully, you can understand whether it makes sense to change it or it is appropriate to leave the old one, carefully insert it back into the socket. It's good when the letter is intact. It's good if somewhere lies old technique, a source of spare parts. But removing a letter from an old computer is sometimes not enough - the difference between models can be too significant, manufacturers are not inclined to repeat themselves, copy each other in the era of rapidly developing computer technology... Moreover, it is not so easy to do it without damage.

If there is a spare part at home

To remove a spare part from an old PC, if it is accidentally discovered, and the previous button is hopelessly damaged, the following algorithm of actions will help:

  • find a small screwdriver;
  • pry directly on the surface of the key;
  • the swing is more securely attached to the bottom of the keyboard, but even if it has come off the mounts, it's easy to put it back on, which is what you need to do.

Breaking the fasteners, to put it mildly, is undesirable, and therefore, you need to do everything carefully. If there are several letters, you need to copy this algorithm, do the same with others.

Put the button in place

Inserting a button on a laptop keyboard is a trivial task. The first thing that is required is to insert the swing into the hole. If the aluminum clamps are bent, they must be gently bent and given the correct shape. But if they are broken, you will have to change the entire keyboard. In this case, it is impossible to return the letter to its rightful place.

When the swing is securely attached, the button must be carefully put on it with a confident movement from yourself to the matrix, with light pressure. At the same time, part of the mechanism will slam shut, the second part, which is located closer to the screen, will have to be pryed from below and inserted into the grooves with a screwdriver.

With keys "space", "shift", "caplook", etc. the situation is a little complicated by the fact that in addition to the upper part, the swing and the spring, another element has been added - a metal retainer that looks like a wire. It is possible to insert these keys back, if they have dropped out, by analogy with the others, but taking into account their peculiarities. This button is held on two contacts. It's hard to take it off and put it on. But you still won't be able to press "insert" with the buttons on the keyboard - you just need "enter". So you have to try.

A simple solution

It turns out that it is really possible to replace the button on the laptop with your own hands - if the old one is safe and sound, or if there is a spare one. Repair specialist computer technology will do the same in the same cases, but charge a small fee for the services. Does it make sense to contact service center when the key fell out or is it easier to insert it into place yourself? The cost of replacing one letter is, of course, less than replacing the entire keyboard. And yet there is always a risk that you will not be able to save money.

Having learned the device of the button and a series of simple operations for its removal and installation, the user will be able to fix a small breakdown on his own or replace the faulty button with a new one.

How to insert a button into the keyboard on a laptop

Laptop, unlike personal computer, has a built-in kit device, the cost of which is significantly higher due to the compact dimensions and integrity of the design. That is why its repair, including independent, is constantly in demand and economically justified.

With prolonged use and active use, parts of the keyboard fall out or their breakage requiring replacement is quite common.

However, before running to the service center, let's try to figure out whether it is possible to insert a button into the laptop keyboard at home and, possibly, save money and personal time.

Possible reasons

Possible reasons there can be many for breaking or falling out of keys:

To figure out what this leads to and determine the probability self repair, consider following cases when one or more keys have dropped out or do not work:

  1. the upper part just popped out of the mounts, stuck, the plastic mount broke, or the fixing ears on the aluminum keyboard base were bent. - We install, repair or replace ourselves;
  2. there was a short circuit and / or destruction of the conductive tracks due to a factory defect, liquid ingress or other extraneous interference. - It is worth contacting the service if you do not have certain skills;
  3. damage connecting to motherboard loop. - Replacement (preferably by a specialist) of the film or the entire device.

Given that the majority of users are amateurs, we will only consider fixing the breakdowns of the first case: mechanical damage.

For this you may need:

  • an ordinary needle or from a syringe;
  • paper clip;
  • glue;
  • knife, small screwdriver;
  • nippers and pliers;
  • thin soldering iron and lighter;
  • small vice.

The first two positions of the list are enough to just insert the dropped item, and the rest may be needed for minor repairs.

Important: Immediately, we draw your attention to the fact that all work must be carried out ONLY with the device disconnected from the network with the removed rechargeable battery.

Button and its design

Before you insert a button into your laptop keyboard yourself, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with its design. This will help to make the repairs right and also to make the installation easy and simple. It should be remembered and taken into account that, unlike a stationary one, the laptop keyboard has a shorter stroke.

They consist of:

A typical keyboard base in a laptop is an aluminum plate that has a stamping with ears for a good fixation of the clamshell and a contact pad, under which there are three layers of film with conductive graphite tracks.

The reliability of the swing attachment ensures the smoothness of the stroke and the absence of distortions when you press the key.

Please note that different manufacturers may have slight design differences in the shape and types of clips.

Therefore, if necessary, disassemble it yourself for the first time, proceed carefully.

Disassembly procedure

There are often situations when it becomes necessary to completely remove and disassemble the button. For example, sinking, lack of response on the screen when you press it, or deformation of the clamshell attachment ears. Removing, disassembling and inserting the button into the laptop keyboard is fairly easy.

How do I remove the GRUB bootloader? More details here.

This requires a thin, flat instrument such as a dental hook. As you know from the previous section, the swing is attached to the lid in four places. It is impossible to simply bend and "tear" it - this deforms the swing and leads to its damage.

It's easy to insert a button on a laptop

Previously, we carefully inspect all fasteners, ears, antennae and grooves again. If you have carefully studied the device and design, read the disassembly procedure, then it will not be difficult to put the jumped out element in place.

This process includes two simple steps:

Please note that sometimes the lid will fall out along with the swing. In such a case, it should be disassembled, revised, and only then installed. Moreover, first we insert the folding mechanism, and then the lid itself.

The described process may seem complicated, but you just have to try it once and you will see for yourself that inserting a button into a laptop keyboard is very easy!

Installing large buttons

Function Keys("Space", "case", "tab", "input", etc.) are larger than the rest. It is this property that requires a slightly different order of their installation. The reason for this is the presence of a metal stabilizer, which ensures even pressure.

Additional lugs are located on the keyboard pad for secure fixation of the stiffener itself.

And although everything else is exactly the same as described above, the installation of long buttons on the clamshell is carried out in three stages:

Please note that some long keys (for example, the space bar) are fixed on two folding mechanisms and a stiffener.

We repair keys

As a rule, it is better not to start a complex and time-consuming repair yourself.

Having disassembled a faulty, poorly functioning or torn key, you will have to, based on its thorough research, make one of three decisions:

  • put it back "as is", without changes;
  • purchase and install a new one (you can also use it);
  • make minor repairs or replace parts from the "donor" and continue operation.

For the last point, the tools that we talked about above may come in handy.

Small repairs of mechanical damage include:

  • assembly and installation in the grooves of the parts of the mechanism that have jumped out (quite often the clamshell "crumbles");
  • Correction of bent ears in the metal base of the keyboard (for example, when a heavy object falls on the keyboard);
  • gluing cracks, broken clips.

It is not worth repairing the breakage of the clamps and the hinge of the clamshell - it is better, if possible, to find a "donor" or replace the entire key. The smoothness of the course, softness and noiselessness of its work depends on it.

The rubber spring is usually glued to a film with conductive tracks. Sometimes it happens that it falls out. In this case, before inserting the button into the laptop keyboard, carefully install it with its wide part towards the bottom, strictly in the center. Spring displacement during installation is not allowed.

Having a problem with your keys? Try, if possible, to solve it yourself. This is not difficult! All you need is attentiveness, perseverance, accuracy and a little time.

How to insert a button on a laptop? A button fell out of the laptop - what should I do?

We constantly use a mobile PC in our Everyday life... In it, the keyboard is the part of the device that takes on the most mechanical influences.

The most common causes of breakdowns

The keyboard on a mobile PC has about the same structure as on a personal PC. She, like any device, is very sensitive to all kinds of dirt, animal hair, crumbs, and especially liquid spilled on it. After a certain amount of time using the keyboard, the buttons on the mobile PC fail or simply fall off.

Also, a simple banal cleaning of the keyboard using a vacuum cleaner for this purpose can become the cause of button breakage on a mobile PC. Or a small child may accidentally rip off a key. Also, the cause of such a breakdown can be pets that live with you. This is also quite common. But you don't need to take your laptop to repair right away. Very often you can do everything yourself.

Button structure

Before considering how to insert a button on a laptop, you need to know its structure and mounting features.

The button consists of the key itself, a mechanism for holding it and a spring element with which it can be raised and lowered. There is also a special film with platforms and tracks.

The mount consists of two parts. These two parts are held together in the center by small "tendrils". They come out of the inner part of the mount and are inserted into special grooves in the outer part. Thanks to this design, they can move when pressed on them. The button itself is attached to the opposite sides.

Consider how to insert a button on a laptop

If a button appears on your mobile PC, don't panic right away. In many cases, the problem is solved on its own. At home, you can also solve the problem of how to insert a button into a laptop. To do this, it is enough to have a simple paper clip with you. Before you insert the button on the laptop to replace it, the old part must be removed from the keyboard. Working with the buttons on a mobile PC requires more care as they are flatter and can be damaged if pressed firmly. Removing an element is as follows. It is necessary to unbend the paper clip in a straight line and thread it under the lower platform of the key. Now you need to pull it towards you, and the key will jump off its base.

Now let's figure out how to insert a button on a laptop, provided that all the "antennae" located on the "rockers" and the grooves are not damaged. This is the easiest way. To do this, the button must be installed in the upper position on the base under the necessary mount. After it snaps into place, the key must be gently pressed down.

It should be noted that there is no need to apply force when installing the keys. Any pressing must be done smoothly and easily.

After installation, you need to carefully check the fastening of the replaced key. When buying new buttons, you need to check if they will fit your laptop model. If you need to change a few details, then it is better to do it gradually. In order not to confuse the location on the keyboard.

Before inserting the button on the laptop, you need to carefully see that the plastic mount, which is located under the button itself, is in place. It may immediately seem that it is very difficult to dock everything. But in fact, this is not entirely true, because in reality there can be only one correct option. There is no other way to install anything.

How to insert a large button

Let's take a look at how to insert a button on a large laptop. These are such keys as Space, Tab, Shift, Enter. In addition to the "rocker", which is made of plastic, they can also have a metal stabilizer. It is necessary so that the key is pressed evenly. There are two lugs on the inside, which are necessary for attaching the stabilizer to them. Immediately you need to start its ends. Then we put the antennae of the "rocker" into the grooves and put the button in its place by pressing it slightly.

The space bar is held on several "rockers" and on the stabilizer. A situation may arise that the "rocker" can be disassembled. It is easy to assemble it using a needle or toothpick. One side needs to be brought into the groove, and the other is installed using a needle.

Let's consider how to insert a button on a laptop, in which the mount is made using metal brackets instead of a plastic swing. Here the fastening is also simple. It should only be noted that such a keyboard will be more noisy.

How to fix a button on a laptop

It is necessary to clearly understand that there will often be only one attempt to repair a button. This must be taken into account before putting the button on the laptop. Before starting execution necessary work you need to have the following tools available:

Place the broken mount on it workplace... We take a needle and a soldering iron. We apply the needle to the place of the broken antennae and make sure that it goes there a few millimeters. We heat it with a soldering iron and fuse it into the mount. Bite off the unnecessary part of the needle. We clean off the excess plastic.

Let's consider another option, how to put a button on a laptop. We heat the needle with a lighter and make a groove with it, into which, for example, a lint or something like that can be placed. We place it in the groove and glue it with superglue.

How to make a new button yourself

If the button stops working, don't rush to throw it away. Maybe she just sunk, and can be put in place. If not, then first you need to carefully consider the button. If it is just a little cracked, then it can be glued together with simple superglue. Only the most important thing is that her contact is in the same place.

If the key cannot be glued, you can make it yourself. Let's consider how to make a button on a laptop yourself. To do this, you must have epoxy and plasticine with you. From plasticine, you need to make the necessary shape and fill it with resin. You also need to lower the contact there. It must be installed correctly. To make it even, it can be trimmed with ordinary sandpaper. So, we figured out how to make a button on a laptop at home. In some cases, this is easier than taking your mobile PC for repair.

If the button just fell out

If the button fell out of the laptop, you need to follow these steps. On its back there are grooves and latches. They contain "swing ears". Their purpose is to connect a button to a keyboard. If a key with a "rocker" falls out, they must be disconnected. Then the "rocker" is installed. There will be a button cover on it. They are connected to each other by the grooves that are on them.

So, we figured out how to put a button on a laptop. As you can see, this is not very difficult to do, and in many cases you can solve the problem without contacting a service center.

Repair of "torn out" laptop keyboard keys

Using a laptop in everyday life, users sometimes encounter a problem: a key on the keyboard is "broken off". Any factor can be the reason: cleaning the keyboard, using a vacuum cleaner for cleaning, a crazy cat (yes, it even happens), a small child who is interested in everything around and accidentally ripped off a key, and much more. But not everyone knows that this little problem is easy enough to fix. I will tell you how to put the button back on without loss.

(caution! a lot of photos) A trouble has happened, and the keyboard of your laptop looks like this:

Laptops are all different, but most often their fastening is similar (fastening principle). The key from the back side looks like this:

We see two pairs of fasteners: - two latches; - two grooves for the swing ears. The key cover is attached to the keyboard using a special rocker, which consists of 2 parts connected by a hinge in the middle and forming the letter X (ha).

It often happens that the key "breaks out" along with the rocker. In this case, you must first disconnect the rocker from the key cover, install the rocker on the keyboard, and only then return the key to its rightful place. To do this, take the key, snap off the latch, on one side of the key, and draw the antennae of the rocker and grooves, on the other side:

We get 2 parts: a key cover and a rocker. There are 3 ears on the keyboard for mounting: one larger and two smaller.

If, for some reason, these fasteners bent (for example, a heavy object fell on the keyboard, as a result of which the key popped out), they must be bent into the correct position. Be careful, you cannot bend these fasteners too much, because they are made of aluminum and break off easily, after which the repair will be much more complicated. We install the rocker on the keyboard: - we put it under the large fastening eye

With a light press, we start the rocker on 2 small mounts

After you have installed the rocker, you can put back the key cover. - we start the projections on the rocker into the grooves of the lid

Here you have to act carefully and not miss :). Further, making sure that the ears go into the grooves, by lightly pressing on the top of the key, we fix the key cover, a slight click will be heard.

Ready! the key is in place.

Large keys (Tab, Shift, space, enter), in addition to a plastic rocker, can have a metal stabilizer for even pressing.

There are two additional tabs on the keyboard backing for attaching this stabilizer. The rest of the construction is the same as described above.

First we start the ends of the stabilizer.

Then we put the lower "antennae" of the rocker into the grooves and with a light press put the button in place.

The space bar (and sometimes other long keys) is held by two rockers and a gimbal.

In principle, the setting is no different from the above-described Shift key setting.

The above was considered internal organization Hewlett-Packard laptop keys. I almost forgot. If the rocker, consisting of two parts, was disassembled during an emergency, do not despair. It can be easily reassembled using a needle, toothpick, or other suitable object. We put one side into the groove, and to install the second side we use our auxiliary object.

Now, dear users, you will not have any questions: - how is the laptop keyboard arranged? - how to fix a key on a laptop? - how to replace the key cover? - what to do if the cat tore out the key on the laptop? etc. Good luck!

p.s. Because it turned out too many photos, an additional part of the article can be viewed on my blog (if someone is interested in this topic), where, for example, you can see the key devices of Asus and Apple laptops, some differences and similarities are described.

Installing keys on a laptop keyboard

Some parts of the keyboard may fall out of the keyboard during cleaning or careless handling. It is often quite easy to insert a button into a laptop, but with some of them, for example, if it is a "Space", novice users sometimes have problems. Next, we will tell you how these buttons are arranged, as well as how they can be put in place.

How does a button on a laptop keyboard work?

To learn how to accurately and accurately fix the dropped button in its proper place, without breaking it, you need to know the structure of this element of a laptop. It includes:

Note that different laptop manufacturers may have their own button design, slightly different from that described. Therefore, if you yourself are going to put the dropped elements of the input device back, be extremely careful.

How to install regular square buttons

If the usual square button fell out, then it is very easy to return it to its place. But first, carefully inspect the structure of the element, all the grooves and fasteners. If the design is standard, the process will consist of only a few simple steps:

Everything described is true when the entire button fell out along with the mount. If only the top cover has "fallen off", then putting it back in place is already much easier - you only need to complete the third paragraph of the description. Perhaps it will seem difficult to someone, but with proper skill, the key can be fixed in this way in just a few seconds.

Working with large buttons

For "long" elements (input, tabulation, etc.), due to a slightly different design, slightly changed installation rules are required. The design differences lie not only in their size, but also in the presence of a rigid metal wire stabilizer, which ensures uniform pressure along the entire length of the element. "Space" even has two metal rocker arms, so it is a little more difficult to install it.

In the places where large buttons are installed on the metal substrate of the input device, there are also a couple of additional ears for fixing the stabilizer.

But in general, the whole process, even for the "Space" button, differs little from the one described above:

  1. Install the first stiffener in place by inserting the ends of its fasteners into the holes on the substrate of the input device. At the same stage, the second stabilizer must be fixed in the plastic grooves, which are already located directly on the inside of the button cover.
  2. Place the ends of the second "rocker" attachment in special loops on the keyboard, put the button in place and press on its lower part until it clicks.

The other large buttons, which are designed with only one gimbal, are easier to work with. For them, the action is limited only to the last item in the sequence of actions described above.

How to repair broken keys

Usually, any repair of this element of a laptop comes down to replacing a broken part from a donor device. If you try to fix damages on your own, for example, of plastic clamps or "elevator" connections, then the smoothness, noiselessness and softness of the restored element may differ significantly from the neighboring ones.

Sometimes, together with the button, a rubber spring glued to the film of the input device falls out. In this case, before installing the dropped element, it will need to be carefully glued strictly in the center with the wide part to the bottom. It is not allowed to move it to either side, since it must be exactly under the conductive track and close it when pressed.

Therefore, always carefully study the design before disassembling / assembling them. For example, for the case in the photo, the rule applies - first, you need to fix metal elements on the keyboard, and already a cover is put on them. However, for the most part, all modern laptops have a similar design, and all buttons on them are installed in the manner described above.

How to insert a button in a laptop

All work on the laptop will be suspended if any button on the keyboard fails. In this case, only replacing the old little assistant with a new one will help. Removing a non-working key and inserting a new one will not be difficult.

The first thing to do before you start replacing the button is to turn off the laptop.

Then the key is removed with a flat metal tool. It should be noted that this procedure must be performed very carefully, because the fastening of the keys in the laptop is different from that on computer keyboard... The removal mechanism itself is simple - the tool is inserted between the fastening points of the button, turns in stages and snaps off first one side, and then the other. By doing this carefully, you can avoid removing the key along with its mounts (lifts).

If the fasteners were removed together with the button, then they should be carefully separated from the base of the key and inserted back into the keyboard in the same way as detaching - first one part is fixed to the case, then the second.

Installing a key is a very simple procedure. It is important to remember here that you need to position the button exactly to the place where it will be located, and it should be snapped in a bottom-up sequence.

If you need to insert a button with a stiffener in the keyboard (enter, space, etc.), then the attachment takes place in three stages. The first thing to do is insert the amplifier into the slots on the keyboard case. The second and third steps are the same as for pinning a regular button.

The design of the laptop keyboard is almost the same as the computer keyboard, so the principle of attaching the buttons to the base is preserved. But nevertheless, you change the buttons due to a breakdown or because of the desire to give your technique a new style, you need to pay attention to the correspondence of the key bindings, since they are completely different for some models.

Video: How to replace a button on an Acer laptop keyboard

The life of a modern person is unthinkable without the use of electronic technology. Many people in their daily life intensively use laptop computers, which from time to time are subject to various breakdowns. Each laptop, like any other device, has the most vulnerable spots, which primarily "suffer" from various negative factors for the reason that they take on the lion's share of mechanical and physical influences... The "Achilles' heel" of every laptop, without exception, is the keyboard, since this is the most sensitive area of it, both to dirt and mechanical influences, which we have just mentioned. Contamination with dust, lint, animal hair, accidental ingress of water or other liquid, heavy pressing, wiping from dust - and these are not all the reasons due to which the keyboard or its individual components may become unusable. As a result, the buttons stop responding to touch or disappear altogether.

Important: If you are at a loss to return the button yourself, contact an Acer laptop repair technician.

Replacing a button on the keyboard of Acer laptop

How does a button work?

Many people do not know that this kind of breakdown can be dealt with on their own, therefore, they either endure discomfort or go to the workshop. We will tell you how to insert a button that has dropped out into the keyboard of an Acer laptop at home. If trouble happened with the keyboard of your device - the button has disappeared, then before trying to put it back, turn this key over and examine it to know what structure it has.

So what do we see? Under the button we see a shock absorber and two latches. As it turned out, the button cover is held by a special paired cross-shaped lock, the two movable parts of which are fixed to each other in the middle with a special hinge, which visually resembles the letter X in shape.

How to put a button?

As often happens, if the button fell off along with the shock absorber, then, first, you need to separate the shock absorber itself from the button cover and install it on the keyboard. We now have two elements: a button cap and a shock absorber.

Then we look at the base of the keyboard and find there three fixation points - two small and one slightly larger. In the event that these latches are bent, for example, the button has fallen off due to the fact that a heavy object has fallen onto the keyboard, you will need to straighten them. Caution: When performing this procedure, be very careful not to break these extremely fragile fasteners. When the latches are in their normal position, take the shock absorber and attach it to the keyboard. How do we do it? We put mountings under the wider part of the shock absorber.

If the lid lugs are exactly in the grooves, lightly press the button with your finger to fix it. If you hear a click when you press, you did everything right!

A few words about the keyboard itself

The keyboard in a laptop is definitely an important device. Unfortunately, it is she who most often suffers from spilled liquids, from various small crumbs that get stuck in the key mechanism. Sometimes it happens that children or pets pulled out the keys and so on. As a consequence of all this, the keyboard needs repair.

In this guide, we will look at how it can be repaired, but first, a few words about its construction.

In almost all keyboards of notebooks, netbooks and other ultrabooks, the key design is almost the same. It is based on the so-called "clamshell":

It is easy to see that it consists of two small frames. They are connected in the center by two small pins. The key itself is attached to the upper edges of the frames using latches, and the lower ones move in the grooves on the keyboard substrate. This is done to ensure that the key travel is parallel to the substrate when pressed. In desktop keyboards, the mechanism is completely different.

Since it is often necessary to remove and reinstall certain keys to clean and repair the keyboard, we will consider this process in more detail.

How to remove a key

As you might guess from the description of the mechanism, in order to remove the key, you need to gently pull the top end. In that place, it is fastened with a pair of latches to one side of the "clamshell" frame. Then gently pull and release the second side of the key. The main thing in all this is to do everything carefully. The frames are plastic and thin enough.

How to put back the key

Reinstalling the key is a more complicated process. First you need to check the clamshell mechanism itself, whether the frames are interconnected and whether they walk normally in the grooves:

If the frames are not connected, then using a thick needle we connect them:

The result should be something like this:

It has 4 grooves for latches on the sides of the frames: two on the top and two on the bottom:

There is something similar on the underside of the key:

Before undertaking to install the key in those grooves, you need to fix the "clamshell" in a raised state using a slightly unbent paper clip:

We fix the "clamshell" with its help:

Then we connect the top two key latches first:
