Tablet computers samsung galaxy laptop 10.1. Dear flagship of the company. The radio of the mobile device is a built-in FM receiver

Rumors about Galaxy Note 10.1 have been around for a long time. We even had a "First Look" pre-release sample. It's been a long time since then, and Samsung has pretty much upgraded this tablet. By the way, the company does not call Galaxy Note 10.1 a tablet: “Galaxy Note is Galaxy Note”. But if in the case of a regular Note this statement is justified, then for the Galaxy Note 10.1 it is not true. It's a tablet, whatever you call it. Its positioning is quite simple - it is a top solution for users who need a high-quality, powerful and functional tablet, as well as for those who need programs that support the S Pen for their work. This model stands above the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Equipment

  • Tablet,
  • S Pen,
  • USB cable for connecting to a PC,
  • power unit,
  • headset with remote control

This is one of the few tablets that comes with a high-quality earplug headset. The same model is used in the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note. The headset has a button for receiving a call and a volume rocker, double-pressing the receive button switches to the next track, triple-to the previous one. The headphones fit well in the ears and do not cause discomfort, it is convenient to use them.

Charger"Prefabricated". A USB cable is connected to the power supply, and a tablet is connected to the cable. The disadvantage of such a solution is obvious - due to the fact that there is only one cable in the kit, if you need to connect to a PC, you will have to pull it out of the charger.

Appearance, materials, controls

Due to numerous lawsuits with Apple, Samsung has begun to carefully consider the design of its models. It's safe to say that the Galaxy Note 10.1 is not like an iPad.

Let's start with the front side. Above the screen is a front camera and a light sensor, and on the sides there are two stereo speakers. Finally, Samsung has decided to place the speakers in the front rather than the side. They have a good volume reserve, you can comfortably watch a movie in places with an average noise level. The sound is voluminous, it is clearly noticeable in games, for example, in Asphalt 7.

On the top there is a power button, a volume rocker (both are made in the same style as on the Galaxy S3), slots for a SIM card and microSD card, an infrared port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. I think the decision to place the headphone jack on top is not the best one, it is still more convenient when it is on the side. But the power button is installed where it should be - on top, I stipulate this separately, because now the fashion has gone to put the power button on the right or left, which is at least inconvenient. The button and rocker have a soft touch and medium travel, there are no problems with them.

Its own PC and charger connector can be seen from below.

On the back there is a rear 5MP camera peephole and a flash.

The main material used in the tablet is plastic, I had a white version of the tablet on my test, it feels like it uses the same plastic as in the white Galaxy S3. It is glossy, but prints are almost invisible. There will also be a gray tablet on sale.

There are no complaints about the assembly. All parts are tightly fitted to each other, Galaxy Note 10.1 gives the impression of a monolithic tablet, without backlash, creaks and cracks.

Screen

The Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 10.1 ”screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The display is covered with Gorilla Glass. Matrix type - PLS, let me remind you that this is Samsung's own development, designed to compete with IPS-matrices. PLS-matrices feature soft natural colors and high viewing angles. The picture is not distorted even with a strong deflection. The maximum brightness level is comfortable for watching videos on public transport, the minimum is enough for reading books in the dark. The screen fades in the sun, but the information remains readable.

Traditionally, Samsung has added several additional settings for the screen. For example, you can choose from several modes for displaying colors. In my opinion, this setting is superfluous, since it is intended for leveling acid colors in SuperAMOLED matrices, while PLS has no problems with high contrast, so there is no need to change the color gamut here. In any case, this setting is there and it works. In addition, there is a technology "Intelligent Standby" - the screen remains on as long as you look at it. It works with the front camera.

The tablet has a light sensor, it works correctly, in most cases a comfortable level of brightness is set, but sometimes you want to "tweak" it a little in the settings. However, this can be easily done using the slider in the expanded status bar.

The surface of the display gets dirty, prints are clearly visible when the screen is off.

I liked the screen in the Note 10.1, it has a large margin of brightness, pleasant colors and high viewing angles. Also, it feels like an oleophobic coating is used here, it's very convenient to slide your finger on it. However, it is important to remember that Samsung is one of the leaders among companies producing various displays, and many users (and myself among them) expected that this model will have a SuperAMOLED Plus matrix with Full HD resolution, because all competitors have already begun to present their models with this resolution (New iPad, Asus TF700, Acer A701). But, apparently, Samsung decided to save such screens for the future, which is strange, because the Note 10.1 is the flagship device for the second half of 2012. And yet, despite the relatively low resolution for the flagship tablet, my tongue will not turn to call the screen in the Note 10.1 bad or of poor quality.

Comparison with Acer A701 (Note 10.1 above)

Dimensions (edit)

Note 10.1 has the usual dimensions for such a diagonal. The model is thinner than the Acer A701 and Asus TF700, but heavier than the latter.

  • Galaxy Note 10.1- Dimensions: 262x180x8.9 mm, weight 600 grams
  • Acer A701- Dimensions 260x175x11 mm, weight 685 grams
  • Asus TF700- Dimensions 263x181x9 mm, weight 586 grams

Autonomous work

The tablet has a 7000 mAh lithium-ion non-removable battery.

I watched video from the tablet at maximum brightness for about two hours and played Asphalt 7 for another hour, in this mode Note 10.1 lasted 3 days.

In the video playback mode at maximum brightness and volume (headphones were used), the tablet lasted more than 6 hours.

In reading mode at 10% brightness for more than 10 hours.

It also uses Samsung's proprietary energy-saving technology: the processor frequency is limited, the screen brightness changes.

Memory, memory cards

Three versions of the tablet will be available, with 16, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory. In the version with 16 GB of memory, 11.3 GB is available to the user, the rest of the space is reserved for the system. MicroSD memory cards up to 64 GB are also supported.

Volume random access memory equals 2 GB, after downloading it is free about 1.4 GB. This is one of the few tablets with this amount of RAM on this moment it is not really needed, it is clear that this is a "volume with a margin", perhaps in the future it will be in demand.

Performance

This is the first Samsung tablet to use four nuclear processor Exynos of our own production, clocked at 1.4 GHz. The same processor is found in the Galaxy S3. The Mali-400 MP is used as a graphics accelerator.

In synthetic tests, Note 10.1 shows excellent results and is in the first places of the rating.

In fact, the model is really fast and has no performance issues. All modern games, for example Asphalt 7, run smoothly. Separately, I am pleased with the fact that the same new products from Gameloft are available for this model, since the same Tab 2 7.0 had many games incompatible with its processor. By the way, apparently, the processor is located in the upper right corner; it is this part that heats up the most under heavy loads. This is a great location because when you hold the tablet horizontally, you don't feel it heating up at all.

Operating system

The model comes preinstalled with Android 4.0.4 and the latest version of the TouchWiz shell on top of it. You can read more about Android 4.0. And I'll tell you about the innovations in TouchWiz below.

The Note 10.1 uses a skin similar to the Galaxy S3, so I'll refer to it often.

Lock screen... To unlock, you need to slide your finger across the screen in any direction. The screen will unlock with beautiful water ripple animation. Below there are four shortcuts, to open one of them, you need to "swipe" from the shortcut up. In the settings, you can change the shortcuts or remove them altogether, as well as add a weather display in the current region.

Work tables... Completely identical to those in the Galaxy S3. The grid size is 8x8 icons. Scrolling is smooth in most cases, however, when using a large number of proprietary widgets, slowdowns appear. When paging, you can see beautiful 3D animation.

Status bar... In the center is a small arrow that brings up shortcuts to certain programs. When you click on the shortcut, a compact program window opens. This solution is used in all the latest tablet models. In addition, the status bar contains the familiar button for taking a screenshot; if desired, you can assign another action to it.

Browser... When you open it, the user sees thumbnails of the most visited tabs. Synchronization with a Google account is available. There is a built-in reading mode, when enabled, the page is converted into an easy-to-read format. The browser works quickly and is convenient to use.

Keyboard... Let me remind you that Samsung refused to use Swype in their products and started installing their own keyboards. Note 10.1 uses latest version such a keyboard. It supports swipe input (like in Swype) and quickly change the keyboard appearance with a pinch: you bring your fingers together and you are presented with three types of layouts: compact, regular and split. I really liked the split layout, it is very convenient to type text with it. The compact version is perfect for those who like to enter text with strokes, in addition, you can place the compact version of the keyboard in any corner of the screen by holding two fingers on it.

Video editor... With this program, you can add several different effects to your videos, for example, insert a frame, change color shades, add text to a selected segment of the video and turn on background music. The editor is simple but functional.

Apps for watching videos and listening to music have not changed compared to other tablets. Their detailed review you can read. The only innovation is the musical square, which sorts the music by mood, let me remind you that the same solution is used in the Galaxy S3.

One of the "chips" Note 10.1 is the ability to make calls using a tablet. For this, proprietary applications are preinstalled. The address book is very nicely made, but the quality of the photos spoils the picture significantly, here you can only count on the upgrade to Jelly Bean.

Books... A separate application for buying and downloading books is installed, but it is not even optimized for tablets.

Smart Remote... A program for controlling your Smart TV from a tablet (let me remind you that an infrared port is installed in it).

Calendar... The S Planner application, familiar to other smartphones and tablets of the company, is also preinstalled.

Dropbox... When you first log into your account, you are given 50 GB of space. However, if you have already received space from a Galaxy S3 smartphone, then the additional 50 GB will not give.

There are also several proprietary widgets in TouchWiz. Below are screenshots with them.

S Pen

One of the main differences between the Note 10.1 and most tablets is the S Pen. Let me remind you that in previous samples, the pen was not hidden in the tablet. Apparently, after reading a lot of negative reviews about this arrangement, Samsung decided to add a special compartment for it. I approve of this change, but I find it unfortunate to have the handle in the bottom corner. It is not very convenient to get it out. Wacom technology is used to interact with the screen. The screen starts to respond even when the S Pen is still 1-2mm away from it.

There are several built-in applications for working with the pen.

S Note... Redesigned note program. Samsung has worked hard on this program, it has become very functional. When creating a note, you are offered to choose one of several note templates, I really liked the "recipe" template, it is made beautifully and in an original way.

After choosing a template, you can start entering your note. At the top of the screen is the control panel. Through it, you can quickly add a picture or audio recording to a note.

And now for the most interesting button with the formula icon. With its help, you can enter handwritten text (the program recognizes it perfectly, I was pleasantly surprised), draw shapes and enter formulas. When you draw shapes, they are automatically aligned.

Formulas... One of the most impressive features of the Note 10.1. You can hand-write a formula and the tablet will recognize it perfectly. Moreover, it will show you the solution and plot a graph if it comes about the function. Awesome functionality, I don't think that many will need it, but its presence is definitely impressive. By the way, when the solution is displayed, the "multiple windows" mode is turned on - half of the screen is occupied by the service of notes, and the other half - open page browser with solution.

Below is an example of handwriting recognition.

Photoshop Touch... To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this application, I was sure that it was capable of only the simplest processing. However, the program turned out to be very functional, in addition to the usual background changes, here you can also carefully remove unnecessary elements from photos or edit them.

Crayon Physics Game... Your task is to help the ball reach the star by drawing a path for it. Awesome game that makes great use of the functionality of the pen.

There is a button on the handle, if you hold it down and press the screen at the same time, a screenshot will be taken, which can be quickly edited. And when you double-click on the screen, the notes window will be called.

The pen is one of the main features of the Galaxy Note 10.1, and Samsung has tried to make every effort to reveal its functionality.

Wireless interfaces

Wi-Fi (b / g / n)- the tablet has excellent network reception, where the Galaxy Nexus periodically loses the network, the Note 10.1 shows several divisions.

Bluetooth 4.0- the latest version of Bluetooth, featuring no power consumption in standby mode.

Gps- the tablet determines your location within 15-20 seconds.

GSM module- the model has a slot for a SIM card, therefore, you can use mobile 2G / 3G Internet.

Infrared port- the main functionality of the IR port is to work with Samsung TVs.

Camera

The tablet has two cameras - a rear 5 MP with autofocus and flash and a front one 1.9 MP. The camera interface is the same as in other tablets of the company, Roma described it in detail.

The Note 10.1 shoots quickly, but photos aren't always sharp. That is, it is perfect for quick shooting of something, but you should not count on high-quality photos.

Sample photos for the main camera:

The maximum video resolution is 1280x720 pixels. Sample video from Note 10.1 below.

The front camera has a fairly high resolution, but the Note 10.1 is not yet Skype certified, so the picture quality will be lower than it could when making calls through it.

An example of a photo on the front camera:

Displaying a picture in Skype

Conclusion

There will be 3 versions of the tablet, 16GB + 3G, 32GB + 3G and 64GB + 3G. The Wi-Fi-only version will not be available. The user will be able to choose between white and gray body colors.

Samsung has done a lot of work on the Note 10.1, it has changed quite a lot compared to the sample that we saw earlier: they added a new processor, installed a slot for a pen, changed some programs.

I liked the tablet, it stands out strongly against the background of competitors, first of all, of course, with the pen and programs for it. But personally, I expected at least Full HD resolution from the Samsung flagship tablet, because all competitors have already presented their solutions with such screens. Apparently, Samsung decided to ignore the race for performance and focused on the software part, and I must say they did a good job.

The cost of the tablet is still being specified, but most likely, it will be at the level of competitors, and Note 10.1 has three serious competitors:

Acer A701... The flagship tablet from Acer, the main features of which are a FullHD screen and a Tegra 3 quad-core processor. However, the model itself is thicker and heavier than the Note 10.1

Asus TF700. New flagship from Asus. It also has a screen with Full HD resolution, in addition, it uses an S-IPS matrix, which outperforms PLS in terms of brightness. In addition, unlike the A701, the TF700 has similar weight and dimensions to the Note 10.1. Plus, you can connect a keyboard with an additional battery to it. If the Note 10.1 is priced similar to the TF700, it will not be able to compete with it on an equal footing.

The New iPad... At the moment, this is the best tablet on the market in terms of features and additional programs / games. The choice between iPad and Note 10.1 is rather a choice of an operating system, and not a choice of a tablet, if you are ready to put up with the limitations of iOS, then the iPad, of course, is preferable, and if not, then the Note 10.1, in addition to the open Android OS, has and many other software advantages (the same pen).

pros:

  • High-quality screen,
  • nice design,
  • Infrared port,
  • work with formulas,
  • the presence of a pen,
  • support for many codecs,
  • front side stereo speakers
  • 2 GB of RAM,
  • the ability to make calls,
  • good headset included.

Minuses:

  • Low resolution for a flagship tablet,
  • dismountable charging,
  • inconvenient location of the 3.5 mm jack

Evgeny Vildyaev (

In past year Samsung released a model called Galaxy Note - a hybrid of a smartphone and a tablet, aimed at those who love smartphones with huge screens and want to get by with one device instead of two (smartphone and tablet). The model, contrary to many forecasts, was a success. Samsung launches Galaxy Note 2 this year, matching form factor first Note, but a month and a half before it hit the shelves Galaxy Note 10.1 - already a full-fledged tablet with a screen diagonal of 10.1 inches.

Here, of course, the question arises, what does the Galaxy Note 10.1 have in common with the original Note and its immediate successor, and besides, how does the new tablet differ from the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet line (which in May was replenished with two Galaxy Tab 2 models - ten-inch and seven-inch) ... The answer lies in the possibilities that the Galaxy Note provided with the stylus. Samsung made the logical conclusion that it is necessary to extend the technologies tested in the Note to 10-inch devices, but, apparently, decided not to expand the functionality of the Galaxy Tab, but to release a new 10-inch tablet. It was the Galaxy Note 10.1.

In addition, the Note was equipped with a quad-core processor, while all models of the Galaxy Tab line (except the very first seven-inch Galaxy Tab) have SoCs with only 2 CPU cores. Thus, at the moment, it is the Samsung Galaxy Note that is the flagship tablet of Samsung.

Specifications

Let's take a look at the technical Samsung specifications Galaxy Note 10.1 and compare them with both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the main 10-inch competitors: ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity and The New iPad.

* - according to the manufacturer's information.
** - for Samsung tablets, the recommended price is indicated for models with a 3G module and 16 GB flash memory. For the iPad, the current average Russian price for the variant with a cellular module and 16 GB flash memory is indicated at the time of publication of the article. For tablet ASUS the average Russian price for the version with 32 GB of flash memory is indicated, which is current at the time of publication of the article.

After examining the data that appear in this table, you can make several observations. First, we see that the Galaxy Note 10.1 is indeed positioned much higher than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Hence the amount of flash memory up to 64 GB, and the obligatory 3G (in the versions of the tablet officially imported to Russia), and, as already noted, the top-end system on the Samsung Exynos 4412 chip (the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III runs on the same SoC).

On the other hand, it should be noted that among the leading tablet manufacturers, Samsung was the last one who did not even switch to Full HD screens in flagship models. According to this parameter, Apple, ASUS and Acer models look preferable. In addition, Samsung models are inferior in camera quality and (as is traditionally) in the number of connectors. Here Samsung is obviously imitating Apple, which we have repeatedly pointed out and that does not add any attractiveness to the South Korean company's tablets.

However, it is impossible to judge the Galaxy Note 10.1 only by the characteristics, of course, since the main feature of this device is in the software and work with the pen. So for now we will refrain from even preliminary conclusions and take a closer look at the tablet.

Equipment

A test sample of the tablet came to us, so we cannot judge about the packaging and configuration. But at least two components of the configuration are probably also present in the commercial sample. These are white headphones and a stylus that slides directly into the tablet.

The earbuds are not bad, albeit worse than the new Apple EarPods. However, Apple does not put headphones in its tablets at all (only in smartphones and players). But the stylus deserves special attention. The stylus body is made of plastic, has the shape of a tetrahedron, but with rounded edges. On one of the edges there is a ribbed button that blocks the action of the stylus (that is, if you hold it down and try to click somewhere with the stylus or write something, there will be no effect).

The stylus is quite comfortable in the hand, its bottom thickness is almost the same as that of standard ballpoint pens. They are quite comfortable working.

Note that the Galaxy Note II smartphones, which recently went on sale in Russia, are equipped with a similar stylus.

Design

External Samsung view The Galaxy Note 10.1 is generally very similar to the Galaxy Tab line of tablets, and in particular to the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

The similarities are so great that you can play the game "find the ten differences". Compare the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 photo (below these lines) with the Galaxy Note 10.1 photo (next photo)!

The difference, as you can see, is only in the width of the silver edging, in Note 10.1 it is wider both on the sides and top-bottom. That being said, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is thinner but heavier.

Overall, the main design feature of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is the front-facing speakers. Samsung is justifiably accused of imitating Apple, but this decision is just different in its originality. And that's a plus.

As for the disadvantages, we still consider the plastic case to be the main disadvantage of the design of the entire line of Samsung tablets. Competitors (Apple and ASUS) use metal, and their tablets turn out to be about the same in weight and thickness.

As for the connectors and slots, they are all located on the top and bottom edges of the device. Above is a slot for SIM cards (standard format Mini-SIM), a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a slot for a microSD memory card.

Also on the top edge we see the Power button, volume rocker and infrared port. Thanks to its presence, the tablet can be used as a universal remote control. Recall that a similar solution was proposed by Sony in the Tablet S.

On the bottom edge of the device is a proprietary Samsung dock connector (however, the same for all Galaxy Tab tablets) and a microphone hole.

On the back side we see a camera with a flash, and in the lower left corner you can see the silver ear of the stylus, for which it is very convenient to pull it out of the tablet.

Generally Samsung design Galaxy Note 10.1 did not surprise us with anything (except perhaps the rather wide bezels), but it did not disappoint us either. Samsung, like Apple, remains true to the design once it was chosen.

Screen

Screen quality has traditionally been one of the main reasons for Samsung's pride. So, for example, we remember that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 had a wonderful Super AMOLED Plus display. Note smartphones are also equipped with a Super AMOLED screen (only with the HD prefix). But Samsung engineers cannot yet equip 10-inch devices with Super AMOLED screens, so both Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 use a PLS matrix.

Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections, carried out a detailed examination of the screen using measuring devices. Here is his conclusion.

The tablet screen is covered with a transparent plastic plate with a mirror-smooth surface. This plastic is relatively resistant to scratches, but it is scratched much easier than inorganic glass. For example, the sample we tested already had several scratches, visible when looking at a tangent to the screen. Apparently, the screen will need protective film, if it, of course, will not interfere with the work of the pen.

Based on the reflection of bright light sources on the screen, there is no antiglare filter. The advantage of the used screen cover is that either the material itself has oleophobic (grease-repellent) properties, or there is a corresponding coating on it, so fingerprints can be removed more easily and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control, its maximum value was 343 cd / m², minimum - 2.4 cd / m². As a result, at maximum brightness in bright daylight, the tablet can be used without much inconvenience. The minimum brightness will allow you to comfortably use the tablet even in complete darkness. The automatic brightness control works according to the light sensor - in complete darkness, the brightness decreases to at least 7.1 cd / m2 (dark, of course), in office conditions, the brightness is set at 158 cd / m2 (normal), in a very bright environment - it rises to 193 cd / m² (could be increased to the maximum). The brightness begins to change (increase or decrease) in 2-3 seconds after changing the external illumination. At low brightness, there is no backlight modulation.

This tablet uses a PLS-type matrix, completely similar to IPS (we did not notice the difference). As a result, the screen has good viewing angles without inverting tints and without significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen. True, which is typical for the overwhelming majority of IPS matrices, the black field is significantly lightened when deviated along the diagonal and, which is not so common anymore, acquires a noticeable purple tint. When viewed from a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is good. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 28.1 ms (15.9 ms on + 12.2 ms off). Transition between 25% and 75% halftones (by numerical color value) takes 41.3 ms in total

In the display properties settings, one of three profiles can be selected - Dynamic, Standard and Movie... As you can see from the data below, these profiles have slightly different colors or gamma curves. The gamma curves plotted at 32 points did not reveal a significant blockage in either highlights or shadows, and the exponent of the approximating power function is from 2.12 to 2.18, depending on the selected profile, which is quite close to the standard value of 2.2.

The contrast is good - 800: 1. The color gamut is noticeably narrower than sRGB:

The spectra confirm this:

Apparently, the matrix light filters mix the components a little with each other. This technique allows you to increase the brightness of the screen with the same energy consumption for the backlight. The color temperature balance is not the worst - the shades of gray have a color temperature, although above 7000 K, but below 8000 K (the dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there is not very important, and the measurement error at low brightness is high ). The deviation from the blackbody spectrum (delta E) is relatively large.

However, the color temperature and delta E do not change much over the entire gray scale area that matters, so the color balance is not visually pretentious.

In general, the screen does not represent anything outstanding - a typical screen on an IPS-matrix. Typical, but with one exception - the screen is covered not by glass, but by transparent plastic. The pluses include resistance to the appearance of fingerprints, rather high brightness and more or less adequate work of automatic brightness control. What is considered a minus - let everyone decide for himself, based on his own criteria.

The tablet supports multiple touches (multitouch), and 10 touches are recognized at the same time.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet is powered by Samsung's own Exynos 4412 SoC. It is a quad-core system on a chip, each core clocked at 1.4 GHz. The same SoC is found in top Samsung smartphones: Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. But in Note II, the processor cores run at a higher frequency: 1.6 GHz.

However, the performance of the tablet still left us the most good impressions... Perhaps the reason for this is as much as 2 GB of RAM (whereas all competitors have 1 GB).

So, in the Quadrant Standard the tablet scored 5325 points, which is more than the devices based on NVIDIA Tegra 3, which in the first half of the year were the leaders in this test. The only platform that the Exynos 4412 has lost is the Qualcomm MSM 8260A Snapdragon S4 Plus, which runs the ASUS PadFone.

In the SunSpider 0.9.1 browser test, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 performed weaker, although it cannot be said that it was a complete failure.

Note: for testing Android tablets, we used a standard android browser 4.x. The table shows the best results that the tablets showed after several launches.

But in the Super Pi processor test, the Samsung tablet showed record results. This benchmark calculates the value of Pi. We set the maximum (in this test) number of decimal places - 512000 (the more digits - the longer it will be considered and the more fair the results will be). The tablet took 259.293 seconds to complete the test. Both Tegra 3 and Qualcomm are left behind.

In AnTuTu Benchmark, the Samsung tablet bypassed ASUS PadFone due to the number of cores (four versus two) and scored slightly less points than the tablet on the NVIDIA Tegra 3 T33.

In the Android version of the GeekBench 2 multiplatform benchmark, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 performed very well, but still fell slightly short of the Tegra 3 T33 results.

We tested the performance of the graphics subsystem in NenaMark2 (v2.2) and GLBenchmark 2.5.1. The result of NenaMark2 is outstanding: 58.9 fps is almost the maximum (60 fps). We can say that this test is already insufficient for such productive devices.

GLBechmark 2.5.1 turned out to be a much more difficult task. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 performed well, even slightly better than the Tegra 3 T30. Although the records of The New iPad are still far from here.

Summing up the benchmarks, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is one of the most powerful Android tablets available today. Moreover, this is true both for the processor part and for the GPU.

Operating system and applications

The tablet runs Google Android 4.0.4 with its own TouchWiz shell (at the time of testing, an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was not available). And although we have repeatedly encountered this version of the OS, as well as with the Samsung shell, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 presented us with many surprises in terms of software.

We'll tell you about them, but let's start with general things. The main desktop contains four widgets, as well as a row of application icons. If you click on the arrow at the bottom in the center, an additional row of application icons (Samsung calls them mini-applications) will open, including the S Note tool for creating notes (we'll talk about it later), S Planner, Alarm clock, Task manager, Calculator, World Time, Music, Messages (SMS), Phone and Email.

You can change their order and set by removing unnecessary widgets and moving the most frequently used ones closer.

The main advantage of these gadgets is that they can be opened on top of regular applications. For example, you have a calendar open and want to write a handwritten note. Please!

Or you have a web page open and you need to calculate something on a calculator.

"Real" multitasking is one of the much touted advantages of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. And for good reason. In this regard, the tablet really outperforms both other Android tablets and the iPad. In addition to the gadgets described above, multitasking is also implemented due to the ability to display two applications simultaneously on one screen. It looks like this: in the upper right corner of some (not all!) Applications there is a button, by clicking on which we will be able to launch another application at the same time. Among them: S Note, Browser, Video Player. Here is an example of Browser and S Note coexistence on the same screen.

At the same time, both applications are fully functional, that is, in S Note you can write, draw, insert images from the Gallery, and in the browser you can scale the page, follow links, etc. Of course, when one of the open applications is no longer necessary, you can close it by clicking on the cross in the upper right.

Among the pre-installed applications, there are a lot of interesting things: these are Yandex services, and various casual games, and Polaris Office (for creating and editing office documents), and Samsung services (ChatOn, Samsung Apps, Game Hub).

But the main interest is, of course, services for working with a pen. These are S Note and PS Touch. S Note has already been briefly mentioned, but we repeat that this is an application for creating handwritten notes, as well as various documents, when creating which you need to use a stylus. The S Note menu offers us a number of templates (business, education, ideas, entertainment), but you can also create a document from scratch.

The application offers a fairly wide range of options for working with the pen. In particular, you can make different line thicknesses depending on the pressure on the stylus. In this regard, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is quite responsive. At the same time, you do not need to hold your hand on the weight, you can safely put part of your palm on the screen, and this will not interfere with the stylus. The screenshot below shows how the thickness of the line depends on the pressure.

Of course, you can choose a thicker brush and change the color. However, all these features are typical for specialized applications of this kind. But what is especially interesting is the recognition capabilities. There are several modes here: recognition of text, shapes and mathematical formulas.

Handwriting recognition is fine (see screenshot above; the words “this is an example diagram” were handwritten), but the downside is that you have to click on the space bar to separate words. It is very uncomfortable. Here is a video showing an example of writing and recognizing handwritten text.

The video clearly shows the delay between writing a word and recognizing it. In the case of taking notes, this is, of course, critical. But when drawing shapes, it is not so important. The main thing is that you can clumsily draw a circle or a rhombus, and it will turn into a perfectly correct one.

Unfortunately, you can draw a shape, but you can't write text inside the blocks and then recognize it. At least we didn't understand how to do it. By the way, this is one of the basic Samsung problems Galaxy Note 10.1: for full-fledged work It takes a very long time to get used to the device, read all sorts of manuals, watch tutorials, etc.

Now let's look at the situation with formulas. On the one hand, if you try, the program will actually recognize the written formula. Even difficult. But on the other hand, it may well be that one character will be recognized incorrectly, and because of this, the whole formula will turn out to be incorrect. Here's an example.

At the same time, we emphasize, I tried when I drew the formula. Here's another example:

Simple formulas are much easier for the program, even if they are sloppy written:

As an experiment, we gave a tablet to a candidate of sciences, head of a laboratory at a large research institute. Here is an example of formulas written by him and successfully recognized by the tablet.

As a disadvantage, you can point out the fact that if you were a little mistaken when writing or your hand jumped off and the symbol turned out to be a little different, then it was very difficult to correct the symbol for the correct version and make the tablet correctly recognize the entire formula.

According to our expert, this technology could be useful to scientists, because then you can insert written and successfully recognized formulas into the text of a scientific work (as you know, typing complex formulas on a computer is often very difficult). Fortunately, it is possible to export notes created in S Note to JPG formats and PNG (well, no one canceled the ability to just take a screenshot). You could also use the ability to recognize formulas in public speaking, if the image from the tablet could be easily displayed on an external screen. But, as we recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 does not have an HDMI output.

Note that after you have written a formula, any new character, even written aside or on another line, the program tries to interpret as part of the already written formula. In order to save a ready-made and correctly recognized formula on the page, you need to press the "Insert" button (a completely unobvious solution!), After which the recognized formula will be inserted into the page instead of the handwritten version, and you can continue writing, including by choosing other recognition options (for example, text).

All these body movements take a lot of time (at least from habit). Therefore, for taking notes of lectures, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is not suitable.

But, nevertheless, we note the promising nature of this technology. In the future, it may well grow to such a state that scientists and students will really prefer tablets to notebooks and computers. Especially when the program learns to independently determine what is being written: a formula, a shape or a text.

The last thing we will mention is the PS Touch app, the tablet version of Adobe Photoshop.

It is done well, and some simple things can really be done in it, but nevertheless, firstly, you will constantly be haunted by the feeling of "how unusual everything is!", And besides, without a mouse and keyboard you will feel like without hands.

Autonomous work

One of the main advantages of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, I would call the battery life. According to this parameter, the novelty, if not a leader, then at least among the leaders. This was clearly shown by both benchmarks and real use.

Let's start with benchmarks. AnTuTu Tester, which loads the tablet's CPU up to 100%, was able to drain the battery in about five hours. This is a very decent figure.

In GLBenchmark 2.5.1, the battery test drained the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in about four and a half hours. Excellent result! Recall that the essence of this test is as follows: a game scene that is very difficult for the GPU is launched, with a frame rate of 60 fps and with the maximum screen brightness. In this case, the tablet is translated into offline mode(all communication modules are disabled).

What does this result mean? That in any, even the most demanding and beautiful in terms of graphics game from Google play Store you can play for at least 4.5 hours.

Now let's see how quickly the tablet runs out of battery while watching a video. When playing a video file (resolution 704 × 384, XviD codec, bitrate 1373 Kbps) using MX Player, with the screen brightness set to maximum, the tablet worked for more than 12 hours! Great result!

We were even more impressed with the result with YouTube video playback (low quality, 240p). A Wi-Fi connection was used, the screen brightness was set to maximum. In this mode, the tablet lasted about ten hours, which is very cool.

Camera

As expected, the tablet is equipped with two cameras: front and rear. The front camera is designed for video communication and has a resolution of 1.9 megapixels. This is roughly on par with other top-end tablets.

But the rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, unfortunately, is inferior to the cameras of competitors of the same class. Its resolution is only 5 megapixels (2560 × 1920), while all top-end tablets are equipped with cameras of at least 8 megapixels.

However, the images obtained are quite good. In particular, the advantage is reliable color rendition and almost complete absence of "dirt" even at 100% magnification. Here is a 100% snippet of the above frame.

But in the same frame, you can see that the clarity is also a little lacking. Although, for shooting text on a sheet of paper (in daylight through a window), this clarity is quite enough to both read the captured text and recognize it using OCR programs.

The quality is ok. Such text can then be easily recognized using an OCR program, or simply read using a tablet.

The video quality is, alas, disappointing. And the point is not only in the resolution (720p is already completely indecent for a top-end tablet), but also in the color rendering, clarity, and naturalness of the picture (more precisely, the low level of these qualities). Here's an example of a 30-second video (43.9 MB).

conclusions

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet is a very interesting product. It combines the traditional advantages and disadvantages of Samsung's tablet line with innovative software solutions, as well as excellent performance and decent battery life. Most importantly, this tablet claims to be more than just a way to consume content. It is positioned precisely as a tool for creating content, and indeed a lot has been done here to provide such an opportunity. However, we must admit that the Android OS, with all its advantages, is still not designed for this. Yes, of course, you can think of a way to do this and that and that on an Android tablet, but on a desktop OS it will be much easier, faster and more efficient.

Studying the software and capabilities of the Galaxy Note 10.1, you are amazed at the ingenuity of programmers and engineers, but from time to time you wonder: is it necessary? Do you often need to switch to dual-window mode (this is on a 10-inch screen!)? Is recognition of formulas really necessary (at least in its current form)? There is no doubt that for some users (there will be very few of them) the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will be the perfect choice and a dream come true. But for the overwhelming majority, this is still nothing more than an interesting toy and ... just good tablet, however, with a slightly outdated (in terms of characteristics) screen. In real life, you are unlikely to use even 10% of the capabilities that this tablet offers and in which it differs from competitors. Although, I do not exclude the presence of the remaining 90% will warm your soul and give you a reason to brag to guests and friends. Are you ready to overpay several thousand rubles for this? Then it's your choice. Do you like working with a stylus? Then don't even hesitate. But otherwise, take a look at either the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, or the top models from Apple and ASUS.

All sorts of people walk around the train stations and offer expensive tablets for cheap.

The owner of this tablet was exactly "vparil" it. There is Internet, written by Samsung Samsung Galaxy note N8000, but in fact, far from samsung samsung.

Looking ahead, I will say that it is better to take normal and working well a tablet on the Internet, than to suffer with the restoration of the performance of this fake. For example, this one. Stopudovo will work without any glitches.

So, to the question of fake - this is how it looks from the outside, in a case, and there is even a keyboard :)

When turned on, they assure that it is Samsung. But we don't believe.

Even on back cover written by Samsung, but we still have doubts :)

Just because Galaxy model note N8000 looks different in the original, Samsung has a front camera in the center at least, and five more significant differences can be found. Here's another option for you with the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.

And upon opening we see the now quite popular Allwinner A13 chip

The actual malfunction was that it could not boot. The Samsung logo appears, then Android, with a spinning arrow, and at one point the arrow freezes and the download stops, the tablet freezes.

Thanks to the forum w3bsit3-dns.com, the firmware for this device was found from Jelly_Bean in this forum thread, it was sewn without problems, it works in full functionality. If you have the same model as mine in the photos - you need the firmware MaPan_MX913_DC_Jelly_Bean_4.2_Os_Root_Firmware_J20131101.img

Everything works, both cameras, wi-fi, volume buttons, everything is as it should.

We saved on the battery. The battery capacity is too small for long-term operation of the device, only 2300 mAh (8.55 W)

The keyboard, by the way, also works, is fully functional, only for Russian letters it will be necessary to install a third-party application.

Due to the large number of people asking about what third party application there is a speech - I answer. Russian Keyboard.

So, in the market we download the program "Russian keyboard". We go to "settings", then "language and input". Click "By default" and in the window that opens, select "Russian keyboard". Below the "Default" window, we also put a checkmark in front of "Russian keyboard", and on the right we see a small icon (like a mixer, a regulator). Click on it. We go to the "hardware keyboard". Click "Layout selection", select "External Keyboard RU". We go to the "switch layout" and there we select the appropriate language switching mode on the keyboard (space is a space). All is ready! Exit the settings menu and go to any search engine. Click on the small keyboard icon on the panel and select "Russian keyboard". Trying to print - everything should work. If the keyboard still prints in Latin letters, restart the tablet.

The keyboard shortcut is the same as in Windows - Alt + tab :)

After the firmware, we should see such a picture in the settings.

Positioning

This device replaced the Galaxy Note 10.1, which appeared on the market in 2012 and has established itself as a device not for everyone - the high cost, incomprehensibility of the advantages of the pen and working with it. All together, in 2012, sales turned out to be rather modest, which, however, exceeded the forecasts of both retail chains and the company itself.

Continuing to develop the Note direction, Samsung rely primarily on phablets, in particular, Note 2/3 - they are extremely popular on the market, but most importantly, they showed why and how you can use the stylus. It is impossible to call the Note family tablets companions to such devices - but the fact that the audience, familiar with phones and satisfied with their functionality, will consciously choose such tablets, is absolutely certain.

When we talk about Samsung technology, we must understand that its cost is obviously higher than that of the competitors of the second echelon - the price gap can be up to 20-30 percent, as a rule, this is a payment not only for the brand, but also for additional features. The price with the reference tablet iPad is about the same. Hence an interesting collision arises - those who seek to save money often choose tablets from small companies, those who are almost unknown on the market, the rest rush between iPad and Samsung. Perhaps this choice is determined not even by the device manufacturer, but by the worldview - you choose iOS or Android, which is closer and more understandable to you. For example, for me tablets from Apple are more convenient than those on Android, although the iPad has many shortcomings, the lack of flexibility inherent in the system. In 2013, Google put a lot of effort into making Android a better tablet experience, and those efforts were not in vain. Let models on Android sometimes suffer from slowdowns, are filled with incomprehensible software from manufacturers, but in terms of the totality of characteristics, they have long surpassed the iPad, and software manufacturers release games and applications for both platforms at the same time or almost simultaneously.

The positioning of the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition is twofold - on the one hand, this is the main tablet of the company with a diagonal of 10 inches, that is, a kind of workhorse for everyone, with maximum performance and a fairly long life cycle. That is why the device, which began selling in November 2013, had a 2014 Edition prefix. Secondly, it is a purebred continuation of the Note line, which provides new opportunities for artists, students and creative people. But if in 2012 the main capabilities of the stylus were implemented around drawing, then in subsequent versions of Note they were expanded with business functions, for example, the quick creation of tables, graphs and illustrations. In my opinion, on this tablet it is worth stopping the attention of everyone who not only consumes information, reads from the tablet screen, but actively takes notes, corresponds with other people and shares information. This model has no competitors in terms of a variety of ways of entering information, cataloging it, storing it. The difference from other Android tablets is in a unique feature - the stylus, which allows you to work with a variety of applications created for it and do it very comfortably.

Design, dimensions, controls

Samsung adheres to a simple color rule for the main models - white and black, this tablet is no exception, it is available in two colors.

In terms of materials, this is a complete replica of the Note 3, which we have seen in the past - the back cover of the tablet is embossed under the skin, but it is plastic. The front surface is glossy, the display is covered with shatterproof glass, on which almost no scratches remain.

Tablet size - 243.1x171.4x7.9 mm, weight - 547 grams (version with 3G, regular Wi-Fi weighs 535 grams). In terms of ergonomics, this is a typical solution of the company - thin, with one mechanical key in the middle of the wide side, which makes it inconvenient to work with one hand. In my opinion, one of the main competitive advantages iPad is metal case, for example, iPad Air weighs about the same, is as thin, but feels like a more expensive product. There is no such feeling when using Samsung tablets, they are workhorses. It is curious that if the use of exactly the same plastic is not perceived as a disadvantage in phones, then for a tablet it is rather a disadvantage. It is unlikely that it will wear off over time, break from falls, or something similar will happen, but metal remains metal, and it is perceived quite differently. Considering that the case in this model is non-separable, there was no reason to use plastic. Weight, dimensions - everything roughly coincides, hence the incomprehensibility of Samsung's obsession with plastic, in this parameter the company is clearly inferior to the iPad.

Compared to previous generations of the Note family, the 2014 Edition clearly wins in design and workmanship - no gloss.

On the right side there is a nest for a pen, the stylus itself has become unified and completely coincides with that in Note 3. It can be inserted into the nest without looking, either side. Of the shortcomings of the implementation of the stylus holder specifically in the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, we can note a certain looseness in some copies, it is worth checking this point before buying. The main returns with mechanical problems are related to the pen and its holder. On the other hand, the number of such refunds against the backdrop of sales is quite unnoticeable.

On the top edge you can see the infrared port, it is used to control various household appliances, such as a TV. The corresponding utility can be found in the menu. The on / off key is shifted to the left on this edge, in the same place is the volume rocker. On the left side there is a 3.5 mm headset jack. Finally, at the bottom there is a regular microUSB connector. Above the screen you can see the front camera for video calls (2 megapixels), the main camera is 8 megapixels and also has an LED flash.

In the 3G model, the SIM card slot is located on the right side, and there is also a memory card slot. On the two sides you can see the speakers, covered with a metal mesh.

Display

The diagonal of the screen is 10.1 inches, the resolution is 2560x1600 pixels, which provides 299 ppi. The type of screen is Super Clear LCD, with support for a digitizer from Wacom, which allows you to draw very accurately and accurately on it. The colors are bright, the backlight adjustment in automatic mode is comfortable, almost never misses, even in variable indoor lighting conditions. The screen does not fade in the sun, the information remains readable.

The aspect ratio of the screen is 16: 9, which will seem interesting to many for watching videos, but here who loves and how. I don't see any problems in watching videos on iPad (4: 3). In my opinion, the screen quality in this tablet is one of the best and gives clear advantages to Samsung. However, this is not surprising - it is in the quality of the screens that the company has always outperformed its competitors. And if in the past the lag behind the iPad with a Retina screen was noticeable, now it is gone - these screens can be easily compared with each other.

USB, Bluetooth, communication capabilities

Bluetooth... Bluetooth version 4.0 (LE). When transferring files to other devices that support this technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 n is used, and the theoretical transfer speed is about 24 Mbps. Testing the transfer of a 1 GB file showed a maximum speed of about 12 Mbps within three meters between devices.

The model supports various profiles, in particular Headset, Handsfree, Serial Port, Dial Up Networking, File Transfer, Object Push, Basic Printing, SIM Access, A2DP. Working with headsets does not raise any questions, everything is ordinary.

USB connection... In Android 4, for some reason, they abandoned the USB Mass Storage mode, leaving only MTP (there is also a PTP mode).

The USB version is 3, the data transfer rate is about 45 Mb / s.

When connected to a PC, the simultaneous operation of USB and Bluetooth is unacceptable, the device requires turning off Bluetooth regardless of the current state (whether there is a connection and transmission or not), this is extremely inconvenient. When connected via USB, the device recharges.

The microUSB connector also supports the MHL standard, which means that using a special cable (available from electronics stores), you can connect your phone to a TV (to the HDMI output). In fact, the standard describes the ability to connect via microUSB to HDMI. This solution looks preferable to a separate miniHDMI connector on the case.

For GSM networks, EDGE class 12 is provided.

Wi-Fi... Supports 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac standard, the wizard is similar to that for Bluetooth. You can remember the selected networks, automatically connect to them. It is possible to set up a one-touch connection to the router, for this you need to press a button on the router, and also activate a similar button in the device menu (WPA SecureEasySetup). Of the additional options, it is worth noting the setup wizard, it appears when the signal is weak or disappearing. You can also configure Wi-Fi to work on a schedule.

Also for the 802.11 n standard, the HT40 operating mode is supported, which allows you to double the Wi-Fi bandwidth (requires support from another device).

Wi-Fi Direct... A protocol that aims to replace Bluetooth or compete with its third version (it also uses Wi-Fi version n for transmission large files). In the Wi-Fi settings menu, select the Wi-Fi Direct section, the phone starts looking for devices around. We choose desired device, activate the connection on it, and voila. Now, in the file manager, you can view files on another device, as well as transfer them. Another option is to simply find the devices connected to your router and transfer to them required files, this can be done from the gallery or other sections of the phone. The main thing is that the device supports Wi-Fi Direct.

NFC... The handset has NFC technology, which can be used with various additional applications.

S Beam... A technology that allows you to transfer a file of several gigabytes to another phone in a few minutes. In fact, we see in the S Beam a combination of two technologies - NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. The first technology is used to bring up and authorize phones, but the second is already used to transfer the files themselves. A creatively redesigned way of using Wi-Fi Direct is much easier than using a dual-device connection, file selection, and so on.

Infrared port... It is necessary to use the phone as a remote control for various household appliances. Automatically adjusts for almost any vehicle model.

Memory, RAM, platform and performance

The model is available in several versions - the amount of memory can be 16 or 32 GB, the amount of RAM is always 3 GB. After loading, the amount of free RAM exceeds 1.2 GB, but it quickly shrinks to 300-400 MB and stays around this mark. This has no effect on performance, it is almost impossible to see the brakes.

Memory cards are supported up to 64 GB, however, as well as their "hot" swap.

The tablet, which is sold in Russia, is built on Samsung Exynos Octa 5420 - it is an eight-core processor in which 4 Cortex A15 cores operate at up to 1.9 GHz, and four Cortex A7 cores at up to 1.3 GHz.

From the point of view of the interface, everything works pretty quickly, although sometimes you can see the slowdown in standard programs that quickly disappear and appear in a chaotic manner - this is the contribution that the proprietary shell from Samsung brings. In synthetic tests, the tablet shows good results.

Camera

A regular 8 megapixel camera, no autofocus, unlike the latest generation Tab Pro / Note Pro, which was the first to use an autofocus camera, although the resolution has not changed. Examples of several pictures. In my opinion, the camera in a tablet is something you rarely use - an unnecessary feature.

Battery

The tablet has an 8220 mAh battery, according to the manufacturer, it can play video up to 10 hours, music up to 117 hours, work on the Internet (3G or Wi-Fi, does not matter) up to 9 hours. In practice, these results can be safely considered ideal, since the operating time is about half less - for example, watching a video in FullHD (avi, hardware acceleration, 70 percent backlight) gives about 6 hours of work. Even changing the backlight to a minimum does not give a runtime of 10 hours. When navigating the network with a backlight of 50 percent, we can say that the operating time is about 4-5 hours. On average, at not very active use the tablet will work quietly for 5-6 days. With very active use - 1 full day.

Time full charge batteries - just over 5 hours (2A charger included). You can safely leave the tablet overnight, this is more a minus than a plus - but this is the difference between all modern tablets, including the iPad, which does not greatly benefit from this parameter. On the other hand, time iPad work remains the benchmark for the tablet market - this is, in fact, an honest 10 hours of video, even if all formats are not supported out of the box. Two years ago, the gap in operating time was almost twofold, today it has decreased to 1.5 times, but it is still noticeably different. This parameter should be taken into account if you need a tablet with the longest possible operating time, and the electrical network is not at hand most of the time.

Working with the stylus - features of the Note line

All devices of the Note family are unified as much as possible - the same stylus, the quality of text recognition, the touch of the pen on the screen, software capabilities. Only the screen size differs, and a 10.1-inch tablet is the most convenient option for drawing, charting, and the like. In the video about this tablet, I touched on multitasking a bit, as well as the S-Pen functions, but it will not be superfluous to repeat their description of their Note 3 review for those who are unfamiliar with such products.

V S Action all notes are recognized, they can be linked to actions, for example, you enter an entry to call someone, the phone recognizes this and adds it to the calendar or makes it possible to call from the phone book at the right time. The function is not very popular and amazing, perhaps the most useless of all.

ScrapBook- an application that allows you to save text, pictures and so on from the screen, you circle the desired piece of the page and then select a category. Everything is saved in one place, including the video. A good feature that can be interesting as an analogue, albeit weaker, of Evernote. The advantage is that this feature is built into the phone.

S Finder- universal search by phone and its memory, it searches for data in all applications without exception (you can, however, configure the places where nothing is worth looking for).

Pen Window- draw a square on the screen, and a window of the size that you drew appears, there are application icons in it. In fact, this is a pop-up window that you may need when you are working somewhere and want, for example, to calculate something in a calculator. It hangs over the main window and can be closed at any time. Comfortable.

Application S Note updated, it has synchronization with Evernote (!), enough user-friendly interface for working with notes, you can see several pages, which is extremely convenient compared to the current version. I highly recommend watching a video about this application to share my delight - one of the most interesting programs on the phone.

V Multi Window now you can open the same application in two parts of the window, for example, speak simultaneously in the IM messenger with two different friends. But the best thing is that you can copy a message from one part of the window to another.

Multimedia capabilities

In terms of playing music and videos, this tablet compares favorably with both the iPad and most of its Android counterparts. Most codecs are supported out of the box, no dancing with a tambourine and installing additional software. The following codecs are supported for video: AVI, MP4, M4V, 3GP, MKV, WMV, ASF, FLV, WEBM: MP4, H.263, H.264, VC-1, VP8, WMV7 / 8, Sorenson Spark, MP43.

For audio - MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX, OTA Codecs: MP3, AAC, AAC +, eAAC +, M4A , 3GA, OGG, WMA, WAV, FLAC, AMR-WB, AMR-NB, MIDI, SP-MIDI, XMF, i-Melody.

The sound quality is excellent - the model has no complaints, the music sounds very good in the headphones. When watching a video, the stereo speakers have a sufficient volume reserve, although they are not always enough.

Software Features - Android 4.3 and TouchWiz

The tablet initially comes with Android 4.3, and will soon receive an update to 4.4.2. The TouchWiz shell is somewhat different from the latest generation of devices, it will also undergo changes. There is no point in describing the standard functionality, this is good old Android, which everyone knows.

Below are screenshots of the main functions of the tablet. Separately, I will mention that along with the tablet you get a 1-year subscription to Businessweek, several weeks of subscription to the New York Times. Also 50 GB of space on Dropbox, they will be valid for 2 years.

The 3G version can be used as a phone with any wired and wireless headset in fact, this is an ordinary smartphone, albeit in a large size. This is another unique feature that distinguishes this device from iPad, making it more interesting in terms of usage scenarios (SMS, voice calls, whatsapp, etc.).

In my opinion, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition has a lot of possibilities, it is a harvester from which everyone can choose what they need. It can be both a work tool and a tablet for games - it all depends on what exactly you need. In the segment of Android devices, there are no direct alternatives to this device, other manufacturers do not work with a stylus (at least of this quality and with such a set of additional programs), there is no possibility of multitasking (pop-up applications, as well as division into two or even three windows) ...

To some extent, the competitor to this tablet is the Note Pro models, which are just beginning to appear on the market, but in Russia the 10.1-inch model will not be officially presented. Another point is that the cost of such models due to a larger set of programs, in particular, Hancom Office (a full replacement for MS Office), is higher. Do I need to overpay for the same or almost the same hardware and additional software? The question remains open. For those who don't need a pen, the Galaxy Tab Pro is the same, but without the stylus.

Given the unification of software in Samsung tablets, I think that it is necessary to write a separate material in which all standard functions will be considered in detail - they are the same for all devices. Such material will appear in the near future.

It remains to look at the cost of this solution - the 3G / 32GB version costs about 29,990 rubles, the younger 3G / 16GB - 26,000 rubles. These prices are quite comparable to those of the iPad Air with 3G, which presents the buyer with a difficult choice. In my opinion, this is a choice not only of the brand, but of the platform that is closer and clearer to you, more convenient in everyday life. Both have their advantages.

As a short afterword, I would like to say that I had a certain prejudice about the Note 10.1 2014 Edition, especially as an iPad user. I could not fall in love with this device for several months of use, there is no emotional component in it that would attract. But as a tool, it is a very powerful machine that has imperceptibly taken a place in my life. She would have a little bit of charisma, and it would have turned out to be a bestseller - but for now, it's just a good tool. Therefore, there is an iPad and a tablet that is used on a daily basis for work. There is no ideal in life, but it's a pity.

Unexpectedly for myself, quite recently I had a chance to encounter a powerful Samsung tablet from the Galaxy Note N8000 series with 64Gb, and to be more precise, I had a chance to encounter a fake of this model.

About a week ago, I heard phone call... An acquaintance called me and told me that he was offered to buy a new tablet for only $ 250. At that time he was interested in the real cost of the tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 64Gb 3G, to which I answered him with data obtained from Yandex Market - the price of a new tablet varies from 7.9 to 9.5 million Belarusian rubles ($ 800 - $ 970).

For the sake of interest, I took a look at the characteristics of this model.

Characteristics of the tablet Samsung Galaxy Note N8000 64Gb

  • 4-core processor 1400 MHz
  • 2 Gigabytes of RAM
  • 64 GB of internal memory
  • 10.1-inch screen
  • High screen resolution - 1280 by 800 pixels
  • 2 cameras
  • Case with separate keyboard
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other gadgets
The model is more than solid, and then I even envied that someone would get such a toy for mere pennies.

According to my friend, this the tablet was purchased at the beginning of the month in the city of Moscow, but now the owner has a need for money and therefore he sells it. An acquaintance said that this tablet even has warranty card and a receipt from the store with the seal "Euroet", which in principle excludes the possibility of counterfeiting.

Omitting the details, he bought this tablet for $ 150, and he got such a discount after he said that he needed to connect it to a computer and check everything. Neither one nor the other had time, so they agreed on this.

A little later, a friend of mine brought this tablet to me for testing, but at that time I had things to do, and I still had to go to training. In the end, I was able to start checking the tablet only late in the evening, and here all the fun began.

How do I check my tablet?

When I got home, I tried to turn on the tablet, but I didn’t manage to do it the first time. It turned out that the battery of the Galaxy Note N8000 tablet was completely discharged.

I connected it via USB to my computer, the charging indicator lit up on the screen and then I was able to start the device for the first time.

Cool - everything works, I opened the applications, clicked the settings, connected the tablet to WiFi, used the Internet and even played some games installed by the previous owner. During such work, the tablet turned off by itself several times, and the battery level constantly jumped in an incomprehensible way - this alarmed me somewhat. Later, I blamed all the problems on the discharged battery, turned off the tablet and left it to charge.

When my friend came back for a tablet, he asked me to throw him a couple of films and imagine my surprise when, instead of 64 gigabytes, my computer recognized only 2.

In the tablet settings, the internal memory and another 64 gig were displayed, but for some reason not everything worked.

I decided that N8000 tablet lacks drivers... There was indeed an unrecognized device labeled "Android" in Device Manager.

I climbed on Samsung official website, chose the device I needed, downloaded and installed the Samsung Kies 3 program with drivers on my computer, and immediately ran into a new riddle. The thing is that the device was not recognized by the program at all, at the moment when my smartphone Samsung Galaxy S 2 was perfectly detected.

I am sitting in a dead end - I do not understand what this tablet needs, what it lacks. In general, I fiddled with him for another 2-3 hours before I began to think that he might turn out to be a banal fake.

I visited the legendary portal about mobile devices w3bsit3-dns.com, in search of useful information, I tried to update operating system tablet, tried to reflash it and eventually even did ( full reset), but never got any results.

The next day I called another friend who is also studying computer technology and tried to find out if he had encountered a similar problem. It turned out that he was stacking and directed me in the right direction. He said it was fake.

How to distinguish a real tablet from a fake?

For a while, I searched the Internet for any related information on how to distinguish a real tablet from a fake, in particular, how to identify a fake on the Samsung Galaxy Note N8000.

1. The original tablet, the camera is centered- at the fake it is shifted to the corner.
2. A real Samsung Galaxy Note N8000 tablet screen resolution 1280x800- the fake has a much lower resolution. In my case, it was 960 by 600 - in other words, the shortcuts and application icons were just huge.
3. Fake tablet models don't have GPS... Try turning it on and everything will fall into place at once.
4. Original Samsung smartphones and tablets in "naked" mode equipped with special applications like Samsung Apps, ChatON, Group Cast, etc. at the moment when the functionality of the fake versions is significantly curtailed.
5. IMEI code certainly not an indicator, nevertheless, in new and real devices it is always present, and for fakes it is usually written "unknown" instead of it - unknown.
6. Fake Samsung tablets not recognized in original Samsung Kies.

A bit of myself and pictures

I'm sure if you dig deeper on the Internet, you can find many more ways with which you can identify a fake, however, in this case, for me, the very fact of the spread of such tablets became a kind of discovery.

Ok here my friend bought a tablet right from his hands on the street, but, it turns out, there have been cases when such models were quietly “vparyl” to customers in fairly respectable stores like “Svyaznoy”. Where is the world heading?

And yes, by the way, after realizing and accepting the fact that the purchased Samsung Galaxy Note N8000 64Gb tablet turned out to be a fake, I again asked my friend to show the warranty card and the receipt from the store.

At first glance, everything is as it should, the amount is the same on all documents, a check attached with a stapler to the warranty card, a seal, as is usually done in stores, is applied to the corner - everything is according to the rules. But if you take a closer look, it turns out that for some reason the booklet for the tablet comes from Samsung. Galaxy TAB and not from Samsung Galaxy Note and the same IMEI code for some reason is not spelled out at all.

As a matter of fact, this is how the tablet itself looked.

This is what the main application menu looks like. Note the huge shortcuts that hardly match the high definition I mentioned earlier.

And these are the settings of a fake tablet. The N8000 model, the android version and other indicators are the same, but where are the guarantees that these data are generally adequate?

This is how the back cover of the Samsung Galaxy Note N8000 64Gb tablet looks like.

And by the way, an acquaintance to whom I called in order to find out if he had come across such a fake, said that most often the inscription on the back cover was not made with paint, but simply pasted, so this moment can also be used as a check.

Considering that today on the Internet it was difficult for me to find at least some information about forgeries of this nature, I hope that few people have fallen for the bait of scammers and they will not get away with it.

In general, these are the things here. Good luck to everyone and be careful.

If you were offered to buy a fake or God forbid you became a victim of these scammers and swindlers - tell your friends about it. Warn and protect your loved ones!

Law enforcement agencies are not interested in solving similar problems, and judging by how actively the discussion is going on, it has already gained tremendous momentum.

Let everyone know about this chaos - this is quite logical and correct.
