In Yakutsk, the Day of Competitions of the qualifying stage of the WorldSkills Russia National Championship has ended in the competence of "Web Design and Development". For participants there was a rich excursion program: the treasury of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the kingdom of permafrost, the ethnocomplex "Chero Muran" and a sightseeing tour of the city.

In order to improve the special training of students in the process of learning a web design, a study was conducted by the method of questionnaire. The tasks of the survey is to identify the following questions:

  • Modern look at the concept of the term "web designer"?
  • What knowledge and skills should a specialist be posted for a web designer?
  • What requirements to its competence are presented?

The need for this study is that modern academic education is often lagging behind the realities of the production flow production (and the area of \u200b\u200bWeb production is developing rapidly). Also in the existing special educational literature and in the methods of teaching there is no accurate determination of the objectives of training in the art. The competence level of web designers specialists is not enough.

The survey was conducted from November to December 2011, using e-mail and an interactive online form (to choose a respondent). As respondents, web studios leaders were chosen, or persons responsible for working with personnel in these companies. Web studios have been taken from official websites of companies. The choice of web studios was determined by the territorial sign in the following cities:

An interesting side fact of the survey conducted is the activity of participants. Of the 272 invitations, only 11% of companies accepted participation. This indicates the closure of Russian business - unwillingness of close cooperation of production with educational institutions. Of those who participated 36.6 (6)% responded using email, 63.3 (3)% with interactive form on the site. The last figure indicates the prospects for conducting various surveys and research with interactive forms online. The questionnaire was deliberately not included in the question of the need for higher or special education from an employee who apply for a web designer:

  • the first reason is the absence of special education in Russia in this area, with the exception of courses additional education and individual disciplines ("Web Design", "Internet Technologies", etc.) included in the training program for specialists of close profile: designers, programmers, journalists, etc.
  • the second reason is the distrust of the company's managers to diplomas, certificates, certificates, which is brightly confirmed by the first point of the questionnaire. Quality portfolio is the best confirmation of the competence level of the specialist!

Nevertheless, paragraph 9 indicates that enterprises needed already prepared specialists in web design. Only a third of the company's managers are ready to prepare the necessary personnel on their own.

Analyzing paragraphs 2-10 can be conclusted that the web designer must first have work skills in graphic editors. The leader here is the Adobe Photoshop raster graphics editor. In second place is the editor vector graphic CorelDRAW. Specialized for web graphics Adobe Fireworks editor enjoys a very small interest. Unlike raster and vector graphics programs, 3D modeling programs are applied less often, although companies begin to show interest in 3D graphics. As it turned out, there is no interest on the part of web studios to these programs, although these programs are actively being implemented in the educational process with educational institutions. This can affect the following factors:

  • Web studios have sufficient means to acquire proprietary software.
  • Web studios use not licensed software.
  • Free software does not comply with specific standards for creating web applications.

Such skills as knowledge of programming languages, the ability to make up templates, work with CMS, are in second place and in most cases are not required for a web designer. The reason lies in the following. In most enterprises, the process of creating a web resource is divided into stages where different specialists are involved. The so-called conveyor website development process is obtained.

Initially, the term "web designer" was meant a specialist, designing and creating websites in general. Basically, such specialists came from the programmers' environment. Modern web resources are pretty difficult and began to demand the involvement of many expert specialists. In the process of surveyor, a number of respondents were expressed by such an idea of \u200b\u200bthe concept of the term "web designer": because The modern process of production of web resources is divided into a number of stages, including design, layout, programming, the term "web designer" refers to a narrow circle of specialists engaged in graphic design. The scientific works expresses the idea that graduates of art faculties are most suitable for the position of web designer, which confirms the position of a number of respondents in this matter.

This indicates the need for more active introduction to the educational process of special disciplines, for the web designer's profile, that is, issues related to art, in particular with the composition.

Based on the study, it is possible to draw conclusions that in the preparation of a specialist should pay attention to the following questions:

  • special disciplines of the field of web design in the educational disciplines of artistic faculties of universities in the training disciplines of artistic faculties;
  • improve the existing technologies for special training of students in the process of teaching web design;
  • focus on studying discipline on artistic and aesthetic components, the use of the composition of the composition (form properties and composite patterns);
  • pay due attention to use modern programs Graphic design, contributing to the increase in the competence level of a web designer, expressed in the ability to create a style unity of websites, high artistic taste, which will ultimately contribute to improving the quality of visual communications.

WORLDSKILLS RUSSIA professional skill competition

In this article, I want to talk about the contest of professional skill WORLDSKILLS RUSSIA, which was held in Moscow on November 1-4 at the All-Russian Federation. I participated in the competence of the "Web Design". The narrative will be from the point of view of the participant.

About Competition
WORLDSKILLS is a competition whose goal is to identify professionals in a particular area. The competition takes its origins with WorldSkills International (WSI), the International Non-Profit Association.
The open championship took place in Moscow for 2nd times. Participation in the competition is free. The age of the participants from 18 to 22 years old, students in colleges or universities. 14 competencies were presented in Moscow, more detailed information You can look at the official website.

On the competence of web design
This competence is connected not only with the web design, but also with the web development as a whole. (I think this is due to translation, with English Design translates as early as development). The competence was attended by 24 contestants from different regions of Russia. To get to the top ten, it was necessary to know: the basics of web design, HTML, CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, work with AJAX.
The competitive task was divided into 3 modules, each of them is designed for execution during the day and focused on individual features and technologies of Web development. All modules are not interconnected. For some of them there is a set source files To perform tasks. Details about modules below. For every day of the competition (they lasted 2.5 days), a new task was presented, some consisted of two parts - a and B. The first part, according to the conditions, should be completed before the lunch break, the second - until the end of the day. After completing the execution of the module, the work was assessed by experts. For each day a specific execution plan was provided.
The Internet was available on a highlighted computer with a restriction in time: each participant could use them no more than two times for 5 minutes per module (unused time burned). About myself
To tell in detail about the competition, to start a little tell about myself. I am a student of the 4th year of the Moscow College, study in the specialty "Applied Informatics". IN curriculum there is a discipline "Internet technologies" in which they teach basics HTML, CSS and PHP. Those foundations that I had after the discipline studied, I would not have enough to break through even the top ten. So I received deeper knowledge for this discipline yourself, studying web technologies on video, manuals and articles.
Now about the competition
First Day Competition
We (participants) arrived in the morning on the platform, were instructed on TB. A drawing of jobs for computers was carried out between the contestants. Following, there was a solemn discovery. Then it began to all the most interesting, that is, directly the competition. On this day, it was necessary to implement the first module. We introduced us to the criteria for estimating the module: for each executed criterion, points were given. In the first module it was necessary to do:
  • "Firelessness of the ICC site, at least 2 pages, for the main page, and for a page with functionality;
  • Prepare an analysis of the old design, indicate its shortcomings and ways to solve in a new performance;
    Prepare the site map and the applied color palette;
  • Provide page design for mobile devices With a narrow screen 480px. "

On the entire module was assigned 4 hours.
I performed a module for all criteria, and I had time left, but, unfortunately, there was no material for the second module, so for me the first stage was completed.
The second day of the Competition
It is logical to assume, today it was necessary to implement the second module. This module was divided into part of the "A", which was necessary to take to the break and part of the "B". For each part, 4 hours was assigned.
In terms of "A" it was necessary to implement:
  • Layout of 2 layouts: the main and functional page;
  • Slider on pure JavaScript, where not less than 3 slides. The complexity of moving slides was evaluated.

In part "B" task sounded like this:

From the source files was given HTML layout, empty style.css and script.js. Only STYLE.CSS can be edited and implement the slide shift in script.js.

Third day competition
This day was the most exhausting, both in the emotional plan and physical. In the third module there were 2 parts, but parts "A" and "B" could be performed simultaneously. At the execution of the entire module was given 6 hours. For the execution of this module, they gave the most points.
In the third module, the task sounded like this:
"You will be provided with HTML and CSS files and various images. Your work will not be assessed by design criteria, HTML and CSS. Please note that the layout contains redundant functionality. You must only leave the functions that you want to implement.
Your task is to create a flexible framework with a given functionality. You have to create a common framework on PHP and by the end of the day you must complete the remaining client interface features.
Task description:
  • For guests of the site
    • View articles, comments and list of attractions on a map of the city.
    • The ability to register (confirmation of e-mail not required).
  • For registered users
    • Drawing up a list (route) of its walk in Moscow, "dragging" sights from the map in the way list and back to remove;
    • Manual sorting of the items of the route must be present;
    • View selected attractions on the map;
    • The ability to publish comments to the sights;
    • To confirm your comment, the visitor must use the CAPTCHA mechanism.
  • For admin
    • The ability to authorize using the login and password and the completion of the session.
    • The ability to add a landmark by dragging the marker from the form of adding to the card and delete by dragging the marker from the card to the basket.
Be sure to use open library capabilities. Technologies such as Flash, Silverlight or Clean JavaScript will not be evaluated. "

Here I implemented:
  • as the organizers of the competition, frameworks say;
  • made authorization and user registration via AJAX;
  • adding a commentary with capping, also through AJAX;
  • adding and removing the attractions from the track leaf by dragging using jQuery, also through AJAX.
I did not have time to make the "admin" and sorting attractions in the waystone.
RESULTS
I did not take a prize room, although I got into the top five. The most important thing, I expanded and systematized my knowledge, identified my weaknesses and outlined the further direction of improvement. Due to restrictions on Internet access, the preparation was careful, the documentation was studied to such an extent that in the event of a problem you immediately know where to watch, although during the Internet competition I was not useful. I believe that such competitions are needed, first of all, for students to increase their skills, find out what you are capable of and what you should tighten, meet new people and show yourself in business. Maybe these competitions will be just as valuable for employers who are looking for valuable shots. It seems to me that few students, the professional area of \u200b\u200binterest of which are not limited to the teaching program, and able to implement the knowledge gained in practice. I have a year to replenish gaps in my knowledge. I hope next year compete for a higher place.
