How to send a large file by email. How to send a file or folder by email. Features of data transmission via the Internet

Do you remember how in the good old song you sing "A letter in an envelope wait a minute - don't tear ..."? Many in response will immediately say: “So this is when it was? To make an anonymous mailing on this service, you must register and indicate your real e-mail (it will not be displayed in the message).

The site provides the user with a temporary e-mail for a period of 1 hour. In it you can send and read messages. You can delete a mailbox at any time.

A comfortable and safe stay online for you! About, .

Usually, users have no problem attaching small files to emails, but with large files it's not that simple. Many email services set restrictions that prevent attachments of files over 25 MB in size to messages. However, these restrictions do not mean that you cannot send a large file via e-mail. There are several ways to accomplish this.

Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and select "Compress". Compressing a file this way often eats up about 20% of the file, helping you bypass the attachment limit.

The computer will create a new file with the same name but a different extension. You can attach it to a message in the usual way.

Splitting a file into multiple archives

If you still want to email the file, you can take steps to split the file into smaller parts. For example, if you have a 50MB document that you need to email, you can create multiple archives at once.

New files will appear on the screen, which you can send individually. Then you can attach each separate part to separate emails, remembering to warn the recipient that you are doing this. The recipient will have to download each attachment separately and then use a file extractor to extract the larger, split file and put it back together.

This method works, but is quite time consuming. However, there is another option.

Sending files through the cloud storage service

The simplest option for sending oversized files is to use cloud storage and file sharing. There are several safe and reliable services including Dropbox and Google Drive.

The two largest web-based email services, Gmail and Outlook.com, have integrated their file sharing services (Google Drive and SkyDrive, respectively) into their products. You can try sending a large file by uploading to the cloud.

Let's look at this method using the example of gmail and Google Drive.

Many have their own cloud storage, but Google Drive is still one of the most popular and multifunctional. There is another way to send a large file by mail.

  1. Step 1. Download the file as usual.
  2. Step 2. Change access settings. To do this, right-click on the file and configure link access, as shown in the picture below.

These are the main and easiest ways to send large files using post services. We hope our recommendations were useful and you coped with the task that was before you.

Video - How to send a large file by mail

The need to transfer a file to colleagues, acquaintances and friends arises almost daily for every computer user. It's good if a colleague is on a local network, in this case you can copy files from one computer to another without using the Internet. But if a friend is far away, then it is convenient to use e-mail, because you can attach any files to letters: documents, photos, programs and even small videos.

Of course, you can send a file to a friend directly via Skype or Mail.Agent, but this is convenient when the partner is online, and if he is not, then e-mail is still more reliable (and more likely that it is available at the workplace).

In Russia, the leaders among the services offering free e-mail services are the portals Mail.ru, Rambler.ru, and the search engines Yandex.ru and Google.ru. On each of these sites, you can get a mailbox of a fairly large size, and each of these services provides the ability to attach files to written emails.

The procedure for attaching files to a letter will be considered in detail below using the example of the mail.ru site, but on other portals it is absolutely identical.

Attaching a file to a letter to mail.ru

Attaching files to a message on Yandex, Rambler and Google

As on mail.ru, there are buttons for attaching files in the form of a new letter in the mail services of Yandex, Rambler and Google (gmail). The only difference is their location and appearance.

File attachment button on Yandex mail

File attachment button on Rambler mail

File attachment button on Google mail

The difference between file attachment and Mail mail is in the size of the attached data. Rambler allows you to add files to an email up to 20 MB, Google - up to 25 MB. Yandex attaches files up to 30 MB, but just like Mail, it has the ability to upload larger files to the Narod.Disk service with a link to download the file to the addressee.

If your colleague or friend's mailbox is not on the sites listed above, then it would be good to first find out how much of the stored information it can support, since previously 5 or 10 MB were allocated to users for mail, and your large letter with attached files will not be accepted. In this case, write a letter without attachments and upload files to files.mail.ru and narod.yandex.ru.

Instructions

Open Windows Explorer by double-clicking the My Computer shortcut on your desktop or by pressing the WIN + E keyboard shortcut. Find the folder you want to send and right-click it. In the context menu, select the command for packing into archive. Depending on the installed archiver, the wording of this command may differ, but the meaning will be the same. For example, if you are using WinRAR, and "Texts", then the packaging in the context menu will be formulated as follows: "Add to archive Texts.rar". If you select this particular line in the menu, and not "Add to archive", then WinRAR will create the Texts.rar file without additional questions and place the folder along with the contents into it.

Make sure the size of the resulting archive is not too large to be sent by e-mail. Almost all public web services have the size of the files they send. If your packed folder does not fit into the specified limit, then the archive must be split into several parts. If you are using WinRAR, then the rar file can be converted into a multivolume archive. To do this, open it by double-clicking it, press the keyboard shortcut ALT + Q and click the "Compress" button. In the lower left corner of the compression settings window there is a field with the name "Divide into volumes in size (in bytes)" - specify in it the limit value for the weight of each individual. For example, for the 15 megabyte limit, enter "15 m" (without the quotes). Then press the "OK" button and in the next window the same button. The archiver will repack your folder into several files, and delete the original one and present a report on the work done. Close both remaining open WinRAR windows - the archive is ready to be sent.

Create a letter in which you will send the zipped folder. If you are using the mail client program installed on your computer, then to attach prepared files to the letter, it is enough to select them in the explorer and drag them onto the text of the letter with the mouse. And when using any of the online mail services (Gmail.com, Mail.ru, etc.), find a link in its interface for attaching attachments. For example, in the Gmail service, it is placed under the email subject field and has a paperclip icon with the inscription "Attach a file". Click it, click the "Browse" button, find the first of the archive files and click the "Open" button. If there is more than one file, then use the next line of the file attachment - it will appear below with the inscription "Attach another file".
When all parts of the archive are attached to the letter, send it to the addressee, not forgetting to write the accompanying text and the subject of the message.

The essence of the question "How to send a large file?" comes down to the fact that we have to send a file, the size of which may exceed the maximum allowable limit of the service (or that program) with which we are sending a "heavy" file.

Counting on the Russian "maybe", you can try to send a large file in any way you know. If the file can be sent, then everything is fine!

Otherwise, you will have to try other services (or programs) in order to send a large file. First, you need to decide how big our file is.

If you right-click on the file icon, a context menu will appear, in which everything that can be done with the selected file will be listed (Fig. 1):

We are interested in the properties of the file, so we click on the "Properties" command:

How to send a large file (up to 10 GB) using Mail.ru?

When writing a letter, you can attach up to 100 files to the letter, the size of each of which is up to 2 GB. How to attach a file to an email is described.

To send files when using mail, Mile ru is not enough, you can use the Cloud Mile ru, more about the Cloud

The developers of the Mail.ru project have followed the same path as the Yandex developers in the sense that almost all of their users are forced to use cloud services, in particular, Cloud Mail.ru.

The developers of Mail.ru about large files that users attach to their letters, write the following:

When you send files larger than 25 MB, they are uploaded to the cloud and sent to the recipient as a link. Such files are marked with the icon and have a certain storage period - 30 days from the date of placement if they are more than 5 MB, and a year if they are 5 MB or less.

When you attach several files to an email, Mail calculates their weight. Some files with a total size of up to 25 MB are attached to the message itself - they are stored in Mail while the message is stored. The rest of the files that are not included in this limit are uploaded to the cloud, marked with an icon and come in the form of a link. They have a limited storage period: if all files that are not included in the limit are up to 5 MB, they are stored for a year, more than 5 MB - 30 days.
