Materials for assembly

We collect a lamp of the LED tape

  5. To clarify the number of LED sections, you need to divide 250 volts by 12 volts (voltage for one group of 3 pieces). As a result, we get 20.8 (3), rounded into the biggest, we get 21 groups. It is advisable to add another group here, since the total number of LEDs will have to be divided into 2 lamps, and for this you need an even number. In addition, adding another section, we will make a common scheme safer.
  6. We will need a constant current rectifier, which is why it is impossible to throw out the extracted insides of the fluorescent lamp. To do this, we get the converter, with the help of buds, we remove the condenser from the total chain. It's easy enough to do so, because it is located separately from the diodes, it is enough to break the board.

  7. Next, using soldering and superclause you need to collect the entire design. Do not even try to fit all 22 sections into one lamp. The reason why I took the LED lamp

I decided to replace the luminescent lamp of my desktop lamp, for something more shocking ...
My lamp must withstand an appeal with a 10-year-old child's appeal, and at the same time emit enough light for comfortable work at the desk, to work stably and cost it. A couple of years ago, this problem did not have a simple solution, but now the answer is obvious - this is a LED lamp.

Materials




I decided to use with a maximum light flux of 278 lm, which remained from my past project. The LED will be placed on the cooling radiator with a size of 5 x 5 cm, which was removed from the old PC.
For simplicity, I decided to use a pulsed charger for a phone, which will provide voltage and current sufficient for the operation of the LED lamp. For this purpose, I used the non-working Siemens A52 charger, with the claimed output of the voltage 5 V and the current of 420 mA.
The cartridge of an old fluorescent lamp will serve to protect the electronics.
Measurements
According to the factory characteristics of CREE MX6 Q5, it can be powered by a source with a maximum current of 1 A and a voltage of 4.1 V. I believed that I need a resistor with a resistance of 1 ohm to reduce the voltage to 1 V (from 5 V, which issued the power supply ) up to 4.1 V, consumed by the LED, unless the power supply is maintained by the current strength 1 A.
To check the maximum permissible strength of the current, which is powering the power supply, I connected various resistors to its terminals, in each case, measuring voltage and calculating current strength.
I was surprised to find that the power supply is arranged in such a way as to limit the current strength at the level of 0.6 A, with which it copes normally. Conducting similarly research with other telephone chargers, I learned that all of them have a limitation for current strength from 20% to 50% higher than the manufacturer declared. It makes sense, since each manufacturer designs the power supply in such a way that it is not very grain, even if the feed device is broken, including short circuit. And the easiest way to ensure this is to limit the current strength.
So I had a direct current generator with a limitation of current strength up to 0.6 A, very effective (mobile phone power supply during use is not warm), with power directly from AC source 220 V, made at factory and very small sizes . And it's just fine.

Lamp manufacture




For a start, I disassemble the power supply to extract the inside and insert them into a new lamp. Since most of the power supplies are glued with the assembly, for its opening, I took advantage of the knobs.
To make the fee fit in the base of the lamp, it was necessary to make some fit.
For fastening the board inside the cartridge, I used a silicone sealant, which remains great resistance at high temperatures. Before close the base, I attached the heat sink to its lid (with a screw), on which the LED was recorded.

Result: Desktop lamp




Here is a lamp assembly. Energy consumption does not exceed 2.5 W, and the lighting is 190 lm, ideal for an economical and reliable desktop lamp. And all this per hour of work, with the exception of the solidification of silicone sealant and drying the thermoclaus, which was used to fix the LED on the cooling radiator.
I was so inspired by the success and simplicity of the project, that a few hours later, I already had another lamp.

Being impressed by the results obtained, in the same way I continued to replace several fluorescent lamps in my apartment. I will present them, stopping only on some details.
For the lamp in the hallway, I applied two Cree MX6 Q5 elements with the energy consumption of 3 W and a maximum light flux of 278 lm. Each is powered by an old Charger for Samsung Mobile Phone. Despite the fact that the manufacturer declared the current of the current of 0.7 A, I found it by measurements that the restriction was established by 0.75 A.
All uses textile fastener (velcro), glue and plastic mounts for the motherboard.
The overall energy consumption is 6 W with a light flow of 460 lm.

Result: Bathroom




For the bathroom, I made a lamp from CREE XM-L T6, which was fed from two charger for a mobile phone LG. According to the factory characteristics, it can produce a current of 0.9 A, but in practice I found that it is limited to 1 A. Two blocks are connected in parallel for the total current of 2 A.
Such a lamp will consume 6 W energy and will provide the coverage of 700 lm.

If, in the case of the hallway and bathroom, the provision of minimum lighting is not too significant, then with the kitchen another story. I did not want my wife or anyone another finger to my finger during cooking and accused me of me, or worse, my beloved LED lamps ...
To ensure good lighting of the kitchen, I decided to use not one, but two Cree XM-L T6 elements, with the power consumption of each 9 W and a light stream of 910 lm. As a heat sink element, I used the cooling radiator from the Pentium III microprocessor, which, with the help of a thermoclause, I attached two LEDs.
Although CREE XM-L T6 can operate at a maximum current of 3 A, the manufacturer for stable operation recommends using 2 A, in which the LED will emit about 700 lm. Testing multiple power supplies showed that the current strength is either not limited or the limitation exceeds the necessary 2 A. I managed to find a power source, which, based on the technical characteristics, issues 12 V at a current of 1.5 A. after inspections using The resistors, it turned out that the current is limited to 1.8 A, which is very close to the desired 2 A. Excellent!
To ensure the insulation of the radiator and the two LEDs, I used two neodymium magnets from the non-working DVD drive and plastic mounts for the motherboard. All fixed using glue and velcro.
Although I expected that such a lamp will produce a light stream of 1300 lm, like a luminescent lamp with power consumption of 23 W, which she replaced, I was pleasantly surprised, finding that the light produced by the new lamp is significantly brighter, and energy consumption is 12 W - almost twice smaller.

Conclusion

The coolest part of this project is that it can be done using items that, with the exception of LEDs, almost everyone has at hand.
Thus, you can get a LED lamp at a price twice, and even four times lower than the cost of the LED lamp in the store.

To assemble the garland from the light bulbs with your own hands, it is not necessary to be a professional electrician. The instruction is designed for parallel connection of lamps.

Preparation of twisted wire
