For the American market, the subscription fee will be in the range from $ 6 to $ 27 per user per month, depending on the selected service plan, which is obviously very democratic. Service plans differ in the number of opportunities available to the user.

Functionality

Currently, Office 365 is in the stage of public beta testing, which, unfortunately, is still not available in Russia. Therefore, we will judge the functionality on affordable English-speaking marketing materials, as well as based on the knowledge of on-premise (intended for deploying on our own infrastructure) versions of the corresponding products.

In relation to the Office 365 cloud service, Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 is a set of client applications. The code of these applications is executed on the local PC, and therefore, with respect to the Office 365 service, they can be called "fat" customers, or desktop clients.

For storing documents on SharePoint sites, the so-called libraries are served. The document to the library can be placed in several ways: from a special Word 2010 desktop menu, uploaded from a hard disk by clicking on the "Add Document" site or rewriting a file in Windows Explorer, since any SharePoint Library can be opened in Windows Explorer as a network folder.

What is the advantage of storing documents in SharePoint libraries in relation to a widespread file storage model in network folders? Firstly, this is the elimination of conflict from the point of view of the content of situations when one document is edited by two users independently of each other. If the document is "extracted" by the user from the SharePoint library to edit, other users will not be able to change it at this time. Always seen who exactly the document is removed.

Secondly, this is support for verition. The SharePoint Library can be configured in such a way as to store all versions of documents from the moment of their creation. In particular, the server infrastructure on which Office 365 service works, is placed exclusively in Microsoft's data centers located worldwide, the data centers of partners are not involved. To deploy the Office 365 service, of course, the Microsoft platform is used. Creating a data center in Russia is not planned. The enterprise that is subscribed to the Office 365 service will not know what kind of data center it is the equipment that provides for it of Office 365.

And this, in turn, imposes certain requirements for the characteristics of the channel to access the Internet. Its speeds should be enough for transmission of volumetric traffic (email letters, Office documents), and on real-time traffic - voice communication and video conferencing. The required capacitance of the channel depends on the number of users, and from the typical use of services by each of them, so that some specific recommendations are difficult to give.

Microsoft declares the reliability of the service at 99.9%, and its financial responsibility in the event of the failure of this parameter. This level of reliability means that 8.76 hours of downtime is allowed per year (43 minutes per month). However, users should remember that access to the service is carried out via the Internet, and, accordingly, it is also necessary to think about ensuring the reliability of the relevant channels. Of course, on the reliability of the main channels connecting the data center with the provider in Russia, end users can hardly influence, but have a spare Internet access option, for example, wireless, seems appropriate.

In this regard, it is interesting to provide an offer to obtain services for access to the Office 365 service from one hands together with the Internet access service. In this case, the supplier will be responsible for the performance of the entire complex. However, the responsibility of the provider, as practice shows, is highly likely to be located within the part of the subscription fee, the proportional time of the inoperability of the service over the stated 0.01%.

Therefore, it seems logical to think about the possibility of offline work. In particular, you can choose a service plan with the possibility of using the Microsoft Office desktop version so that you can continue to work and in the absence of internet access, or buy a license for such Microsoft Office separately. It is also apparent to have a backup copy of the critical data of the enterprise somewhere on local media, as well as have a minimal office IT infrastructure, so that in case of unforeseen situations, the data and at least some possibility of their processing have not been lost.
