Lenovo IdeaPad 300 RAM. Lenovo IdeaPad U300S is a very pretty orange ultrabook with an excellent keyboard, but .... Power supply, battery and battery life

For its relatively short existence, tablet computers made several cardinal evolutionary changes, which noticeably affected not only their appearance and existing functionality, but mostly transformed the entire modern portable device market. At first, dropping off everything is superfluous in the form of a keyboard and touchpad, the tablets separated from the once related segment of laptops. After overcoming minor problems with overweight and the size of the diagonal, they also abandoned the services of a variety of styluses, preferring exceptionally manual input. And when under the onslaught of technical progress, the last and most persistent frontier with relatively low productivity and energy efficiency, most of the manufacturers suddenly realized some hasty of previously accepted decisions. It turned out that the presence of a physical keyboard is not a relic of antiquity at all, and the electronic pen can become a very good help of a novice designer or an account.

In this article, we will get acquainted with a fairly interesting and relatively new way to "reckoning the origins" - a hybrid tablet PC Lenovo.IdeaPad.MIIX. 300 (10”) For example, we will try to find out all the advantages and disadvantages of this segment of devices. After all, in his arsenal there is not only a number of pronounced portable opportunities, as the touch screen, the main and frontal chambers, but also the previously mentioned physical keyboard in a pair with a full-fledged desktop option. So we will not strongly delay the introduction, but as soon as we move on to the traditional consideration of the technical characteristics.

Supply and equipment

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 (10 ") tablet comes in a relatively small box of dense cardboard, which is distinguished by a pleasant eye by natural design and contains almost all the necessary technical information about the acquirement device.

Inside the package, the gadget itself, the docking station to it, a network cable, charger and a whole Heap of standard user documentation are neatly laid.

Appearance, location of elements

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 transforming tablet has a fairly simple, one can even be a classic appearance that for this category of devices is quite justified. On the one hand, it helps engineers to achieve a certain balance between design and practicality, and on the other, it allows the owners that sometimes absolutely unnecessary attention to themselves and to the device used.

Thanks to a sufficiently modest dimensions, the gadget has a long-term working session, regardless of the use mode (tablet or laptop), while the total weight (slightly more than 1 kg) has a positive effect on the possibility of its transportation. All this makes Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 a very good portable tool for solving everyday tasks, which, if necessary, can be taken with you to an office at a meeting or leave within a home as a compact multimedia entertainment center.

Like most other similar devices on the market, overlooked "transformer" consists of two functional elements - a 10.1-inch tablet and docking stations with a keyboard unit, which are collected in one small grooves and a 5-pin connector to one small, but quite Comfortable laptop.

Long shealing hinge provides a wide opening angle - up to 140 °. He is tight enough, so you can open a laptop only with two hands, and therefore the presence of a small beveled area on the front edge of the base is definitely pleasing.

To disconnect the docking station and proceed to using the device in more familiar tablet mode, just press the button above the keyboard and slightly pull over the upper part.

The housings of both halves of Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 are made of black matte plastic with a pleasant to the touch of a soft-touch coating. Traditionally, such a material is perfectly felt in hand, but very actively collects fingerprints, which in our case are also quite reluctant.

The front side of the tablet is completely closed with tempered glass. The factory film with a good oleophobic coating is glued to it. From above above the screen is the front chamber's eyes, and the silver edging (painted plastic) is stretched along its contour, which, in addition to decorative purposes, serves as additional protection against possible damage. The frames around the display occupy exactly so much space so that it is convenient to hold the gadget with two hands and at the same time they are not afraid to accidentally hurt your touch screen with your fingers. The same side has a practically smooth surface. It has a fairly large lens of the main camera, the inclusion button and the volume swing, the microSD memory card slot, the logo and two stereo speakers.

The working area of \u200b\u200bthe docking station is covered with a solid plastic panel. It is sleeping smooth to the touch and quite interesting on the form of a grainy texture with small reflective intrinsmen that remotely resemble the metallic paint. From the bottom around the perimeter of the keyboard unit there are four rubber legs, which ensures good contact of the device with almost any coating.

As for unusual in terms of the functional properties of the gadget, the Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 (10 ") tablet is characterized by a sufficiently convenient location of the functional elements. All of them are made on the left sidewall of the device (two LED indicators, a Micro-USB port, a Micro-HDMI connector and a combined audio jack), which as a result facilitates access to them and reduces the time to adapt. Also do not forget about the presence of a docking station. When it is connected, the user can count on two additional USB 2.0 ports.

As for the quality of the assembly and stiffness of the case, here Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 can give odds to most direct competitors. All elements are fitted very tight, and the design itself copes well with moderate twisting and pressure attempts on the display and keyboard blocks. You can only find over to the barely noticeable backlash in the groove when the docking station is connected. However, this is a feature of the structure and any negative consequences does not bear.

Input Devices

In addition to the touchscreen, an additional input device in an overlooking tablet is a compact keyboard (232 x 85-90 mm) of ACCUTYPE island type, rendered to a removable docking station. Its foundation is well fixed and slightly recessed into the working surface. You are quite convenient to type text or edit data, although at first you have to get used to a little non-standard location of the buttons and, as well as to the combined digital row with the function keys.

The keyboard is based on a scissor-membrane mechanism with a short, medium pronounced and fairly quiet move. The shape of the caps is standard, but it has a slightly shortened dimensions (the main - 15 x 14.5 mm; functional - 14.5 x 12 mm; arrows - 14.5 x 8.5 mm). Applying symbolic elements is made by printing method. It is characterized by good quality and good wear resistance. Functions running in a pair with key, for greater amenities are highlighted with brown color.

The existing touchpad is presented quite large (given the total dimensions of the device) with a solid sensory panel with dimensions of 89 x 50 mm. It is slightly drowned in the base and has a noticeable selection. The panel coating is made of matte plastic with pleasant tactile properties. It provides a slight slip and high sensitivity. There is a full support for multitouch gestures in the Windows OS environment.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and pixel density at 149 PPI. It is based on a very good IPS matrix, covered with a protective glass under which there is a small air layer.

The tablet screen is characterized by quite comfortable detail, good contrast and wide viewing angles. The color rendition is pleasant and rich, but in it by default there is a noticeable bias towards cold shades.

The display illumination has a wide range of adjustments, which is enough to adjust the gadget under certain conditions of use. True, the maximum level of brightness may not always be enough to work on a sunny day, but the minimum will allow you to read your favorite book with comfort or see the news site in complete darkness.

Built-in sensory substrate recognizes up to 10 simultaneous presses. Sensitivity level is excellent - everything works as quickly as possible and very clearly.

AudioSystem

The observed tablet is equipped with two multimedia speakers, which are put on the back of the body. They are directed in different directions from the user because of which there is a sufficiently good stereo effect, but the maximum volume of volume is noticeably decreased. In the frequency range, high and medium frequencies predominate for this category of devices, but there is practically no bass. However, it does not prevent the use of the tablet for undemanding multimedia entertainment, games and watching videos. In addition, for connoisseurs of wider and surround sound, it is always possible to connect headphones or an external speaker system.

Cameras

Digital Arsenal Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 is represented by two cameras: the main (5-MP module with aperture F / 2.8, electronic stabilization of the image and autofocus) and frontal (2-MP module with F / 2.8 aperture and fixed focus) that are capable of writing video from Maximum resolution up to 1080p and 720r, respectively.

The photos and video materials obtained with their help are quite good quality (high contrast, pleasant color rendition), especially when choosing favorable shooting conditions and good lighting, which will be quite enough to most users to solve everyday tasks.

The software that is responsible for the camera's work is endowed with a good list of settings. It allows in manual mode to configure several sufficiently important parameters (focal length, exposure level, white balance and ISO value), which in turn significantly improves the quality of the shooting.

Hardware platform and performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 (10 ") tablet is built on the basis of an Intel Atom Z3735F energy efficient 4-nuclear SOC processor with a working frequency of 1333 MHz (can dynamically increase to 1833 MHz). It is made in accordance with the 22-nm technical process and is based on the Intel Silvermont microarchitecture (Intel Bay Trail-T platform). The volume of L2 cache is 2 MB, and the TDP level does not exceed 2.2 watts.

The processor is equipped with an integrated Intel HD Graphics graphics adapter with a 311 MHz base clock frequency (dynamically increase to 646 MHz) and support for the most popular APIs, including DirectX and OpenGL, as well as branded technologies, such as Intel Quick Sync Video, Intel Clear Video HD and Intel Wireless Display.

The operational memory of the tablet is represented by one 2-gigabate DDR3L-1333 standard module operating in one-channel mode.

To store user data in Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300, an EMMC-drive of SANDISK SDW64G of 64 GB is provided. Additionally, there is a built-in card reader that supports microSD memory cards to 128 GB memory cards.

The wireless tablet is carried out by means of a combined RealTek RTL8723BS network adapter. It transmits data according to Wi-Fi 802.11b / G / N and Bluetooth 4.0. Despite the presence of the docking station, there is no wired network connection.

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 (10 ") tablet works running the preset 32-bit Windows 10 HOME operating system. Its basic functionality is slightly diluted by a number of branded utilities and a pair of downloaded programs from the Application Store.

Contrary to the morally outdated opinion on the insolvency of Windows-based tablets, overlooked Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 300 pleased with a good level of performance. The computational capabilities of the device is enough to solve any everyday tasks with the comfort, whether work with documents, amateur processing of photos, watching videos or surfing on the network. In addition, the tablet copes well with the launch of simple games on low / medium graphics settings (Card HearthStone: Heroes of Warcraft, Pixel Action Hyper Light Drifter or even the Dextopic version of the World of Tanks), which makes it a worthy option for the role of a gaming platform for casual users.

Cooling system, noise level and temperature mode

Due to the low indicator of the heat generation of the processor used, Lenovo engineers managed to completely abandon the ventilation holes and coolers, which made it possible to equip the recoverable gadget absolutely silent and fairly effective cooling system.

During conventional everyday use, the temperature components of the Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 did not rise above 50 ° C. Even a few cycles of the AIDA64 Extreme stress test could not heat up the tablet more than 78 ° C, which should be considered a good result. The only relatively serious test for from the device was the game mode, where the temperature indicator was able to approach 84 ° C. But in this case, only a small part of the hull under the control buttons was becoming warmer, which still did not create any tactile discomfort.

Power supply, battery and battery life

The Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 (10 ") tablet is equipped with a non-removable 2-element lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 7000 mA (26 W, 3.7 V), which, with the average operating conditions, is able to provide a good level of autonomy.

In the maximum load mode, the gadget worked for almost 4 hours, and when viewed Full HD-video - 6 hours of 17 minutes. In a simple, this indicator was able to overcome the psychological mark at 10 o'clock, which, although not slightly reaching the level of autonomy of some competitors, however, is more than a decent result.

You can charge the battery as using the power supply (5 V; 2.4 A) from the delivery kit and via the USB port of the stationary computer. On average, such a process will take about 5 hours. It is noteworthy that the BP itself can also be used to quickly charge other mobile devices in the house, however, for this you have to get an additional power cable, since the complete cord is equipped with a proprietary connector that is only suitable for the observed tablet.

RESULTS

As you can see, the market of portable computer systems is gradually returning to its own sources. Despite the current view of the tablets, as exclusively entertaining devices, there is a rather extensive category of users who are ready to use the aforementioned gadgets in solely working purposes, to the maximum applying their main advantages - high mobility, convenient ergonomics and low energy costs. And our observed guest - hybrid tablet Lenovo.IdeaPad.MIIX. 300 (10”) - perfectly fits into the listed criteria.

The advantages of the tested device should include modest dimensions and a small weight, thoughtful arrangement of functional elements, a good sensory IPS screen and an energy efficient platform, as well as the presence of a complete docking station with a full-fledged keyboard unit, which significantly expands the list of claims and increases the overall level of comfort. In addition, you should not forget about the pre-installed Windows 10 operating system, which is perfect for the workflow and offers the user a huge selection of office and graphics applications.

Who is the potential owner of this tablet? They will certainly be a rational and practical person who appreciates ease of use, useful and convenient functionality, and most importantly - who is looking for a compact and fairly productive tool for solving everyday tasks. If you refer yourself to the number of such people - Lenovo IdeaPad MIIX 300 is your choice. Otherwise, when searching for a similar device, you will most likely have to face a markedly increased price or content with a more obsolete version of the operating system.

With a ruver computer market simply filled with all sorts of devices. However, today manufacturers are more like an unusual form factor, such as transformers, so sometimes it happens that it happens to purchase a laptop for everyday tasks a really challenging mission. Nevertheless, it is fulfilled, the main thing is to trust a reliable and proven manufacturer.

Hero of this review - 15.6-inch Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad 300 15. All that is needed to perform undemanding tasks at home or in the office, it has: a sixth generation processor Intel Core i5-6200U, a discrete video card AMD RADEON R5 M330, 4 GB of RAM, 1 TB disk space for storing information. To all of this price tag of $ 660 is a very pleasant bonus.

Design

Since we are talking about a laptop of the budget segment, it is quite predictable to see a fully plastic case, without a single hint of metal. In this case, there is a black lid with a smooth matte surface. It does not replete details, in particular, on the left side you can see only the logo of the manufacturer, and there is nothing more here.

The laptop interior is as follows: the screen frame and keyboard buttons are black, as well as a ceiling surface. The webcam is located above the display, below, from the left edge - a small logo of the company. As for the keyboard, it is full-size, and, at first glance, very comfortable.

Lenovo IdeaPad 300 15 can be upgraded, for which you should release the cover from two cogs. Next you get access to the hard disk, RAM, battery. The dimensions are as follows: 378x265x24 mm, the weight is 2.3 kg. It is impossible to say that with the quality of assembly of cases in the best possible way: for example, if you press the laptop cover, "waves" will go across the screen, in addition, the casing there are gaps.

Display, sound and webcam

In a laptop, a 15.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels is set. The brightness indicator is low - 200 cd / m2, but the contrast is decent - 703: 1. Compliance with the SRGB color standard is 56%, and AdoberGB is even lower than - 36%. The surface of the display is glossy, so you can work exclusively in the shade, hiding from direct sunlight.

Another moment lies in the application by the manufacturer of the TFT matrix. This implies less wide viewing angles than IPS. In general, it should be noted that the quality of the image is not the best, however, it is characteristic of inexpensive laptops. On the other hand, if you are looking for a laptop for web surfing, working with documents, watching videos, etc. Tasks, then the above screen characteristics are enough for you.

With the acoustics of Dolby Audio there are no explicit problems, of course, if we take into account the budget of the device. Even at the maximum volume of speakers, a decent sound without wheezing. Their potential is enough for watching video, and to reproduce musical compositions. Headphones will contribute to strengthen the sound effect.

The HD webcam has a resolution of 720p. It is not necessary to feed the illusions: the quality photos will not be able to make this camera, as a result they will turn out to be blurred and dull. However, to communicate in Skype the possibilities of this webcam is quite enough.

Keyboard and touchpad

Hand area has a corrugated surface of black, as already mentioned, it is made of plastic. A full-size keyboard is slightly drowning deep into, it island type, however, there is not a lot of free space around the buttons. The latter, by the way, are made in the form of a "smile", which is no longer anything other than Lenovo, and is not associated. White keys marking, functional additionally marked with orange. The backlight is missing.

The keyboard looks rustic, but, at the same time, is functionally. The button is medium in size, you can see a small under it. But from the opposite side, the larger, rather, it turned out. The arrow unit is compact, but convenient. Without a nampade, a clear case, also did not cost. The switching button is in the upper left corner of the working surface. As for the functionality of the keyboard, the case is as follows: the key of the keys is short, they are pressed softly. During the intensive set of text, the substrate is noticeably bent.

The touchpad has medium sizes, it is not clearly under the keyboard, but slightly shifted on the left side. The manipulator has a smooth surface, it is convenient to slide with your finger on it, perform multi-touch gestures, for example, scrolling, dragging, etc. At the bottom of the sensory area is supplemented with physical buttons, which, by the way, is quite loudly clad during pressing.

Performance

Lenovo IdeaPad 300-15isk laptop runs on the basis of the Windows 10 HOME 64-BIT operating system. The "heart" of the filling is the Intel Core I5-6200U generation of the Skylake generation. Its operating frequency varies within 2.3-2.8 GHz. The chip is made on the standards of 14-nm technical process and consumes no more than 15 W electricity.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 runs at a frequency of 300-1050 MHz. It copes well with everyday tasks, such as web surfing or working with text documents. But for more serious calculations there is a discrete video card AMD Radeon R5 M330 with 2 GB of DDR3 standard. This video screen supports DirectX 12, as well as OpenGL 4.3. You will also play, however, we are not talking about demanding toys. For example, Need for Speed \u200b\u200b(2016) on Medium-settings and in the native screen resolution will be almost unplayed with 15 frames per second. It is better in this case to launch the WORLD OF WARSHIPS strategy (2015), which will go from 34 FPS.

The number of RAM is 4 GB of DDR3 standard from the maximum possible 16 GB. The storage system is represented by a rigid disk per TB (spindle speed of 5400 revolutions per second).

Ports and communications

The set of interfaces caused a double impression: it seems to have everything you need to work, at the same time, I would like to see updated standards, and some are already frankly outdated. Thus, on the left side there is a USB 3.0 port, HDMI and VGA video outputs, RJ-45 network connector, 8-B-1 card reader (SD / MMC / SDHC / SDXC) and recharging socket.

The right face has two USB 2.0 ports, a combined audio connector, as well as a slot for Kensington Castle. In addition, it is here that the optical drive of DVD-RW Super Multi is located.

As for wireless modules, they are represented by Wi-Fi 802.11 AC and Bluetooth 4.0.

Battery

The laptop has a 4-section lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 32 VTC. Unfortunately, you have to admit that the device is far from the outlet not worth it, because on one charge it will not last long. So, the web surfing will discharge the device for 4 hours, viewing the video for 4-5 hours. If you run the game on the laptop, it will turn off approximately after an hour and a half.

In everyday life, the Lenovo IdeaPad 300 15 body remains cool, and under load temperature increases, but not so much so that the user has experienced discomfort. It is also the case with noise: during web surfing, listening to audio, work with documents, etc. Lapptop behaves quite quiet, but it is worth resorting to heavy artillery (games), and the noise of the cooler becomes more loud.

Conclusion

Lenovo IdeaPad 300 15 laptop - it's like hello from the past. Its technical characteristics are practically such as they were at the peak of popularity, perhaps a year ago, but not today. Take at least the screen: it is based on HD-resolution and the TFT matrix. Brightness has a low indicator, the color rendition is also lame. Also note the interfaces: USB port 3.0 here is only one, about USB Type-C does not even go. The battery is another weak laptop link, so take the device to the trip - not the best idea.

On the other hand, Laptop is practical and non-comers. He is not bad, as for a state employee, filling, as well as a very pleasant price - $ 660 for the described package. Despite the fact that Lenovo IdeaPad 300 15 will definitely not call the reference pattern, it has advantages, so there will be a lot of those who want to meet him.

... but with a very uncomfortable touchpad and a weak screen, but with good autonomy

Lenovo U300s came to me the penultimate of all ultrabooks presented and published in the fall of 2011 (an article about the last of them, Toshiba Portege Z830 will come out in the very near future). So you can already draw conclusions about what the very first solutions of the new class were. In addition, the material will soon be published in which we summarize the impressions of the four we have visited ultrabooks.

Ideologically, this model is the heiress IdeaPad U260 with a 12.5-inch matrix, which has come to the market for almost a year ago. The concept and appearance of the U300S is largely borrowed in this model. At the same time, the U300S was announced simultaneously with two larger models: U300 and U400. All three are very similar to each other outwardly, but the last two are intel standard mobile platforms and even a slotting optical drive. Models with the prefix "S" traditionally for Lenovo are distinguished by a small thickness of the housing (for example, T400S, T410S).

Detect official references to U300S belonging to ultrabooks failed. In other words, it is more correct to say that this model meets the Intel criteria for ultrabooks. It is possible to call it ultrabook ™ - at the moment it is not clear.

Configuration of the line

Laptops in the new design are even put on the title picture for the entire section IDEAPAD of the Russian site Lenovo. However, by going to the section, we could not detect (at the time of the article preparation) the model of the U300S we need. Therefore, with a clear conscience we go to the American site, where this model. The manufacturer lists its main advantages:

  • solid aluminum case;
  • 10.5 seconds required to fully load the system;
  • up to 8 hours of battery (under certain gentle conditions);
  • glass touchpad;
  • cool (or cool? - Cool) breathable keyboard;
  • 50 percent of the battery capacity of the ultrabook is gaining in 30 minutes.

In tabs on the description page, by the way, there are several video devoted to positioning and creating this laptop. I wonder however, it should be noted that the model information is too general.

Not the first time we see that the model specifications on the Lenovo website is not. Instead, it is proposed to download the PDF file, where they must be (at least, the link to the file promises that it is). However, the file by reference is rather more likely to advertising avenue into two pages than on the technical characteristics of the model. In general, with a technical description of the trouble, and why it is not clear. So, when drawing up a table, we were guided by the data of test utilities and cannot vouch that they coincide with the official technical characteristics of the laptop.

It is worth noting that in addition to Core i7, the IdeaPad U300S can also be installed and the Core i5, too, the ultra-car series. The remaining configuration parameters are fixed, since it is not possible to replace the components (they are planted on the board).

What is interesting, the manufacturer quite generously put here SSD with a volume of 256 GB. Is this a boat initiative, that's just how will it affect the cost?

Appearance and Ergonomics of the Corps

Immediately it is worth noting that the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s comes in a box, an extremely similar to the MacBook Air box. Is that here she is black. But the proportions and internal organization with plastic forms are very similar.

Unlike the "prototype" of all ultrabooks, the Corpus at the IdeaPad U300S is not widged, the thickness of him everywhere is the same. By the way, this thickness is 14.9 mm, which gives grounds to write in press releases "less than 15 mm". And makes it difficult to accurately check this fact. However, the laptop is really not entirely fat.

IDEAPAD U300S has a very interesting form of the body. The laptop is rectangular and flat bottom and lid, and a protruding edging is coming along the top and bottom faces of the case, it is rounded from behind. Therefore, the closed IdeaPad U300S externally reminds the fine book of a large format in a solid cover.

The second feature is a very unusual color of the case. The outer part of the laptop is made of bright orange (and Lenovo declares that the aluminum anodizing process was used, so there will be no scratches and scratches on the housing), internal black. As a result, an interesting combination occurs: in the open state IDEAPAD U300S looks strictly and in a worker, but in closed - attracts attention to an unusual color of the body. So if you want to stand out, the IdeaPad U300S can become a very good choice. Another thing is that an orange laptop is not appropriate in each setting. In the ruler there should be another, more classical gray version (just gray color of different shades), but in the photos it looks worse.

Traditionally, warning readers from conclusions by photographs, especially if you read a review from another laptop. Most LCD screens are very poorly conveyed by complex shades, and for some reason, the screens of almost all the laptops see them were strongly shot down in cold tones. On my working laptop, for example, the IdeaPad U300S case on the photograph presented above looks almost yellow, while lying near the ultrabook is a beautiful orange shade.

In principle, this is a matter of personal taste, but on an external impression (and especially in the form of the body) Lenovo U300s liked me more than all the ultrabooks presented.

Case IdeaPad U300S, like almost all ultrabooks, metallic. Feels like it is quite durable, especially in a closed state. In an open laptop, some doubts inspire the lid, it is painfully willingly be bent and bent. Although, I think it will not reach the damage to the matrix. Bottom strong. But "breathe" the stands under the palm of the palm, especially the right, and with rather loud clicks. It would be possible to write off this for the shortcomings of our copy, but the same features were noted by Western colleagues (it is necessary to believe on another laptop). In addition, we clicked the touchpad - apparently, clinging for something or was badly fixed.

So, the strength of the hull must be not bad. But our copy is "tested several times", or simply treated like that: in general, it seems to me, I dropped a couple of times. On the protruding edge of the back there is a couple of sneakers, a slightly concave metal near the headset connector (dried out for headphones from the table?) And the metal with plastic in the back corner of the case, but if the laptop really fell from the table, then nothing criminal, even rather, rather, On the contrary. Many make an erroneous conclusion that if one laptop came to the test scratched, and the other - no, then the second laptop is less scratched. In reality, this means only that one damaged, and the other is not yet. It is possible to draw conclusions only by "combat" models, but in no case is not fresh.

Ergonomics of the corps

Thanks to the "Book Frame", the lid is very convenient to pick up and open. There is no closer for loops, the lid always keeps the position in which it was left. It opens quite easily. The cover can be easily open with one hand, and the housing will not climb the cover up. In this case, the screen is not sinking and when printing does not vibrate.

Looped node is made about the same way as MacBook Air. The loop of the M-shaped form and when opening the cover, it does not rise up, and leaves back. Therefore, the placement of the connectors on the rear panel is impossible.

On the left side is the One Key Recovery button and the USB 2.0 port. There is also an additional ventilation grille.

The rest of the connectors are located on the right side. This is a headset connector, another USB port, this time 3.0, HDMI port and power plug connector. By the way, the plug is not like Lenovo ThinkPad (but the diet is the same: 20 V, but 3.25 a). Power plug angular, if it is deployed forward, then prevents adjacent connectors.

Ultrabook manufacturers get up before a complex problem: How to place Intel and Microsoft logos on ultrabook housings? Everyone solves the problem in its own way. Acer, for example, pasted on Aspire S3 gray stickers under the color of the laptop case. Asus refused them at all. And in Lenovo engraved the desired logos at the bottom. True, there were no places for licensed stickers at all.

On the one hand, the extension ports are frankly small (there are still at least one USB port, especially since it is in this laptop one port will almost always be engaged in the mouse), on the other hand, it seems that the positioning of ultrabooks is such that many ports of them and not must be required. However, we remember where the opinion is coming from that many ports to a stylish ultraportative laptop for nothing, and this opinion is not from the camp of PC manufacturers.

By the way, in my opinion, the ports would cost a mirror. For example, by connecting the second HDMI monitor, I immediately got on the rug with a thick mouse, poorly babbling cable, which is quite difficult to go somewhere. USB 3.0 will be used rather with a flash drive or hard disk, which is also better to put on the left side of the laptop. And the port on the right would be resonantly to leave for the mouse, especially since it is most likely you will need.

Keyboard

I really liked the keyboard in this model. The U300S was tested almost simultaneously with ThinkPad X1 (a review of which on objective reasons will be later). So, x1 she (apparently because of the protection against fluid) is very "rubber", and it is not very pleasant to work with it for a long time. Keyboard IdeaPad U300S, though not so protected, but it is much easier and more clear.

As for the layout, I did not have complaints about it. Perhaps someone will miss the inspection key in the main layout, but in modern systems it is needed in modern systems. I personally put the layouts in Punto on PrintScreen, and these needs were limited. By location of the keys is all optimal. There will be no significant claim for the layout of a single complaint to the layout. Use that the cursor that the right column, where additional keys are built, conveniently.

All the last Lenovo keyboards have a very specific form of keys to the profile. The manufacturer calls them "smile" (i.e. smile), I personally have such keys resemble the fields of a cowboy hat. Since in parallel with the IdeaPad U300S, I used several laptops at once, it was possible to compare the sensations in detail. According to the results of the comparison, I had the impression that the more easier the keyboard pressing, the more convenient such a form of keys. Since IdeaPad U300s has a very easy pressing and a small move, then the keys of such a form is very by the way. On Lenovo IdeaPad U300s I managed to print very quickly and without typos.

The keyboard slightly slightly, but not at all loud and not annoying. In general, for printing at a high pace, this keyboard is suitable as it is impossible.

Additional keys and indicators

The power button in this model is made in the upper left corner (still there is sometimes a suspicion that some laptop models are made for the left-hander, for very often the power button on the left exactly from those laptops that have to right ports for thick and uncomfortable cables in the work). There are no problems with its use.

In addition to the main start button, the iDeaPad U300S has another, recessed in the case the power button on the left side. She is responsible for launching Onekey Recovery (did not work on this laptop). As I understood, get into the BIOS Setup or perform other starting settings (for example, choose from which device loaded) is also possible only through it, otherwise the ultrabook with a whistle starts and immediately starts to ship Windows. Apparently, this is the result of the fight for reducing the download time. Although I did not notice a real difference, POST is very fast for all modern laptops.

The indicators are located on the front edge of the case and look strictly ahead. Indicators are only two: the performance indicator and the battery status indicator (by the way, one of them shines through the slot in the case). Indicators are glowing white or red (for a discharged or charging battery). As usual, Lenovo, the indicator icons consist of small white luminous points. Due to the fact that the indicators are directed forward when they are clearly visible. The reference indicator to the hard disk is traditionally not for ultrabooks. However, when using SSD, it is not needed.

The keyboard is made "casting" of the upper row. In other words, the laptop control functions work directly, and for pressing F1-F12 will have to hold Fn. And if it annoyed me at first, then as this castling got acquributed to me more and more, for the system functions, as it turned out, I also use it much more often.

Briefly list system functions: Turning off the sound, the volume adjustment, the F4 function does not work, the update (this command is valid - in the browser, in the programs), turn off the touchpad, turn off wireless networks (they are not directly pressing the button by pressing the button: an ugly utility appears on the screen, Where you need to choose a disable device, putting the point in a special field), turn off the microphone, disconnect the camera, translation to the external monitor / projector, brightness adjustment.

Touchpad

The touchpad became the main and just a huge disappointment from the model. Well, it was necessary to spoil all the good impression from the laptop!

The touchpad is just huge here as in MacBook Air. And infantless - too, as in MacBook Air. The surface is the same smooth and slightly slippery, again, as in MacBook Air (in advertising, claim that the surface of the touchpad is also from glass).

As for the cursor control, everything is fine (as in MacBook Air): the surface is though slightly slippery, but it works clearly, the cursor moves quickly and accurately. Keys (more precisely key Under the surface, since the left or right - the touchpad determines on the basis of where the finger is lying, on the right or left) is pressed with a click and not always easily.

The main minus, from which all the impression is spoiled - a long-known problem: all the time you concern the sensitive surface, the cursor jumps and clicks, the text is entered all the time in different parts of the screen. " There is this problem here is catastrophically often. By the way, MacBook Air (at least if Windows is installed) also suffers from it.

In fact, by writing three phrases in the ICQ window, open on top of the mail client window, I felt the inclusive number of times to the mail, marked a couple of messages as spam, turned out all the windows, etc. At the same time, the phrases turned out completely unreadable, since jumped The place of entering the text, I had to wash the introduced not there. It seems that, not a single word I could have addressed normally.

In general, the shutdown key of the touchpad on this laptop is the best friend of the actively typing user. Each time you need to print something (up to the address in the browser or a short phrase in ICQ), the touchpad must be turned off - just for the sake of care for your own nerves. By the way, the game with the settings did not lead to any result.

It is impossible to print with a connected touchpad.

Screen

The screen has become the second sensitive disappointment from the model. The fact is that he has a weak illumination, and with bright external lighting (not to mention the street outside) the image becomes too dark and non-contrast. Objective measurements confirm the first impression. The brightness of the screen is 95 threads (white) and 0.39 threads (black) with highlighting maximum. At a minimum of backlighting: white - 3.02 NIT, black - 0.01 yarns.

The matrix resolution 1366 × 768 TN type has a glossy coating, therefore it greatly reflects the surrounding space. In the case of the IDEAPAD U300S, the effect is enhanced due to the weak backlight, i.e. these reflections become much more noticeable and distract.

It is designed to work with such a screen by no means for any external conditions. For example, in a bright illuminated office or with the sunshine, it is unpleasant to work in the room: windows, lamps on the ceiling, employees and cabinets are reflected on the screen. And because of the weak illumination, the picture is too unconstant, the eyes straighten and get tired quickly.

However, with an average lighting (and this is most of the premises), this deficiency is not striking, and use the screen comfortably when working with texts, on the Internet, etc. Although, for example, watch a movie, then on dark scenes your own image is much more Distinguished than what is happening on the screen.

And here, by the way, we approach one more lack of laptop: the poor quality of the matrix. Even alone, you can hardly configure the screen so that both dark and light shades (respectively in the upper and bottom of the screen) have been visible at the same time and did not merge into one dark or light spot. When viewing, the Almost this becomes an impossible task, and every time will rearrange the screen. The picture is complemented by strong highlights and reflection, i.e. night scenes look simply impossible.

So the screen is applicable only for limited conditions and is suitable mainly for working with texts, but not with multimedia. And due to the low brightness of the backlight, they can be comfortably used only in the evening at home with medium lighting. Over the rest of the way, they can start sick eyes.

Sound

The quality of the built-in acoustics is on average for laptops level. In principle, the laptop is not very quiet, and if you wish, you can even see the movie. However, starting somewhere with 2/3 of power, at high frequencies, distortions begin - noise and wheezing. Just like on the MacBook Air.

For home use and simple tasks, Telephony type will go, but it does not have to talk about any capacity. The same Asus UX31 plays an order of magnitude better.

Testing

So let's briefly look at how this ultrabook works. According to mature reflection, it was decided not to include productivity tests in this material. In the near future, a separate comparative material dedicated to ultrabooks will be released, in which the productivity of both ultra-mobile processors will be given - Core i7-2677M and Core i5-2467m.

Data sheet

The processor is installed in our model. The processor refers to the ultra-mobile Intel line, it is characterized by a reduced supply voltage and has a thermobacket of 17 W (remind, in ultra-carcular Core i5 the same thermobacket). 2677M has 2 kernels and support for Hyper-Threading technology. The nominal frequency of operation is 1.8 GHz, the maximum frequency that the processor can be achieved is 2.9 GHz.

Let's look at the processor modes. To begin with - in idle mode:

In this mode, the processor operates at the same frequency and with the same power voltage as other modern Intel Mobile Processors.

Now take a look, as the processor behaves under load.

With full load on all kernels, the kernel voltage grows to 1.096 V, and the frequency rises to 2.6 GHz.

Let's look at the speed of working with memory.

As you can see, the iDeaPad U300S memory works in one-channel mode. So the maximum result is somewhere at 10 GB / s (remind, in two-channel mode the same system gives out 15 GB / s).

Let's look at the performance of SSD, at least in the basic test.

Performance is at a very high level both in absolute figures and compared with other solutions.

Finally, let's look at the temperature of the system under load.

Before turning on the load, the temperature processor temperature is very good. But a little alarms a big difference between the processor sensor and the nuclei inside it. Run the test.

In principle, the temperature grows not at a rapid rate.

Sensor update slow ...

17 degrees of growth in 13 seconds is a very good result.

The temperature is rather quickly stabilized at 63 ° C. This is quite a bit.

Three and a half minutes, it is finally stabilized at 69 ° C.

And in the future practically does not grow.

During the test, the processor frequency was at 2.6 GHz. Temperature regime remained at a very good level, not exceeding 73 ° C. Trehotling, of course, was not. Therefore, let's talk about the heating of the housing.

Intel Advanced Cooling technology is used in this ultrabook. Air sunsited through the keyboard, passes through the entire body, blowing and cooling the components, and leaves it through the exhaust grilles. The main grille is located in the slot between the housing and loop of the cover, blowing out in this narrow slit (also like MacBook Air). However, the IDEAPAD U300S has an additional lattice on the left side.

Despite this, if you load a laptop, after some time it is noticeably heated throughout the back, where the looping node. Heating directly depends on the time that IdeaPad U300S conducted under load. Initially, I planned to hold it on a test for about 40 minutes, and then the bottom was warm next to the exhaust lattices, but tolerant. However, it turned out that I did not turn the load. And after an hour and a half, it was already difficult to hold in his hands, and the level of heating was somewhere 43-45 ° C at the rear face and side, where the ventilation grille. Under the execution of serious tasks (especially if the laptop is on the knees) it is not worth it - it is easy to frozen. By the way, I think this will behave like other laptops of this class.

Evaluation of the noise level depends on what conditions you assess: in a quiet room at night or day in the office. Almost in all rooms with the average level of noise (day and in the city) noise will not be noticeable. At night, the root of the cooling system is heard, but even under load noise level medium or lower. And basically it is a rustle, there is no unpleasant howl. The air from the body is blowing not very hot. So, from the point of view of acoustic comfort, the model left pleasant impressions.

Battery life

Testing during battery life is carried out in two modes: minimum loading mode (reading text from the screen) and when watching a movie. Tests are carried out without using test programs. Energy Saving Parameters: The "Balanced" power supply is set, if the laptop manufacturer offers its own power scheme with close characteristics, it is exhibited. The monitor shutdown time is set to "Never". Other interventions in power management (switching graphs, disconnecting components, etc.) are not produced, they remain on default values. Screen brightness is set to maximum, wireless interfaces are disconnected. When testing a laptop reboots, all utilities installed by the manufacturer are launched (except for the antivirus program, it is uninstalled before tests).

When testing during battery life in read mode, no programs are launched, except for the utility measuring the battery life.

When testing a movie from a hard disk, a movie in AVI format is played. To play, a portable version of Media Player Classic is used, which contains built-in codecs.

In the reading mode IDEAPAD U300S provides quite good 6 hours of autonomous work. In other words, if you spend the day in the road and do not particularly abuse the Internet via Wi-Fi, it can be safely taken with it, without fear that it will turn off at the most inopportune moment. On a business trip, it should also be enough for quite long business meetings. Well, at home after work, you can not take care of taking with you charging if you left the table on the sofa.

Working hours under load - just over four hours, which, according to modern standards, is also a very impressive result. Approximately the same or slightly more (somewhere up to 4 h. 45 min.) You can expect time if working on the Internet via Wi-Fi.

If you compare with other ultrabooks, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300S shows a good result, which is explained by the greater battery capacity.

Impression

We got a laptop with a not very clean system and an inoperable recovery system (generally, before the recovery in Lenovo laptops, it was even quite difficult to kill). Therefore, it is not entirely correct to assess the speed of work in such conditions. Subjectively IdeaPad U300S seemed to me the slowest from proven ultrabooks, but I will emphasize again: Windows after installing applications, services and agent programs that are started with the system and work constantly, slowly slows down, and it must be taken into account. In the fresh system, he will not lag behind competitors.

The laptop was completely accurately went to sleep, and not to Hibernate (in Hibernate, he seems to go after some time), and it fell asleep relatively long, noticeably longer MacBook Air or competitors.

On the one hand, I really enjoyed using the IdeaPad U300S: he has a very good keyboard, it is very pleasant to print on it, and he is also very pretty outward, it is pleasant even just to twist in his hands.

Immediately note the two features of ultrabooks that make them so pleasant in their work. First, the laptop is thin and lightweight, it is easy to wear (especially convenient to do this due to the rounded back face, IdeaPad U300s is very comfortable to keep in your hands as a folder). You can use a cover, not a huge backpack, etc. Secondly, everything works really quickly thanks to the SSD and a new platform. In principle, there were other laptops at the same time at the test, and I can't say that the IdeaPad U300S is noticeably slower somewhere. Is that in heavy tasks (such as an archery of video), it is noticeably lagging behind, but these are rare tasks, and it is obvious that modern Core i7-2630Qm with four cores and HT will be faster. In any denominations, the speed does not cause complaints.

Well, the fast SSD ... Thanks to him, the system instantly responds to the user's actions, since in most cases it slows down the loading of data from the hard disk (which now has become a real brake system). Very quickly, almost instantly, programs are launched, even heavy. In general, in terms of speed, the ultrabook is much more comfortable in the work than the usual laptop with a hard disk. Of course, put in any SSD laptop - and it will become the same fast. Just in ultrabook you get it immediately.

Positioning and output

Well, it's time to sum up.

If we talk about my personal opinion, it remains contradictory. I really liked the appearance of the U300S and the keyboard - to such an extent that the laptop did not want to give. A beautiful toy, which is also so convenient to print. But the delights were destroyed every time you had to work with a connected touchpad or in bright light.

Who will it fit? Well, first, it is worth remembering the old cliché "active young people." Bright, attractive, at the same time strict and convenient in the work ... Plus you can take it with you. For youth audience, the model is interesting.

Secondly, like any bright laptop, he is quite suitable for women. Here he will fit and as a home model, since it will not be so noticeable.

Finally, thirdly, it is a good gift, it is very beautiful outwardly, which is important for a gift.

At the same time, it is rather an image toy than the working system. For active long-term work, it is not very suitable because of several essential flaws of ergonomics.

In general, conclusions.

  • Very beautiful, bright and unusual stylish look
  • Excellent, very good keyboard
  • Not bad autonomy
  • Extremely inconvenient when printing touchpad
  • A weak matrix with which it is uncomfortable to work
  • Bad sound

The exact prices at the time of testing have not yet been announced, but IdeaPad U300s will definitely not cost cheap, like any ultrabook, and even with the image component.
