Roll back ios update. Step-by-step recovery of Iphone. Deactivating Find My iPhone

Have you already tried out iOS 12, but didn't like it or just decided to wait a bit for a more stable version? You can still rollback to iOS 11.4.

What you need to know before rolling back

First, you need to make a backup of the operating system. You never know, iOS 12 will get crooked or your gadget will turn into a brick.

Via iCloud

Step 1... Open Settings, go to the Apple ID menu (at the very top with your avatar).

Step 2... Open iCloud -> Backup. Above this menu is listed everything that is stored in the cloud.

Step 3... Turn on the iCloud backup toggle switch and wait until a copy is created.

Via iTunes

Step 1... We connect the iPhone or iPad to the computer via a wire.

Step 2... Click on the device icon in the iTunes application.

Step 3... We choose This computer.

Step 4... Push Create a copy now.

How to downgrade to iOS 11. Clean install

To get started, you need the iOS 11.4 firmware file. Here's a complete list:

Disable the function before starting the procedure. Find iPhone... Otherwise iTunes will refuse to perform the rollback procedure.

Step 1... Connect your gadget to your computer or Mac.

Step 2... Select your device in iTunes.

Step 3... On the Overview tab, hold down the OPTION key (Shift for Windows) and tap on the item Restore iPhone.

Step 4... Select the firmware file you just downloaded.

Step 5... Click on Restore.

Step 6... Now, when you reconfigure your smartphone, you can choose to restore from a backup.

Important: The device cannot be restored from an iOS 12 backup.

During installation in no case do not disconnect the iOS device from the computer. Average recovery time is 15-20 minutes.

For iPhone and iPad, provides a step-by-step guide to what to do and how to do it. Today we have prepared an instruction in a different format, it tells how not to do it. I will share a failed attempt to downgrade iOS firmware. A similar situation is sometimes encountered by novice users of iPhones and iPads, trying to roll back the firmware version, i.e. replace higher generation iOS with legacy firmware version below. We do not recommend repeating the steps in this article. After reviewing today's case, you will find out what can sometimes happen to your tablet or phone if you try to downgrade iOS. This material also pursues another task, which you will learn about by reading to the end.

Before starting any actions with the firmware in the iPhone or iPad, we need to find out the firmware version currently installed on the device, for this we read - "". Before the experiment, we determined that our iPhone has firmware 7.1.2. And now we will try to return the iOS 6.1.3 firmware to the iPhone by force recovery. For this we download the 6th firmware. Where and how we download the firmware is described -.

After we downloaded the iOS 6.1.3 IPSW firmware to our computer, we need it. We launch iTunes, connect our experimental iPhone to the computer using the native USB cable.

Select iPhone in iTunes. Then in the "Browse" section, hold down the Shift key and click the "Restore iPhone" button.

In the window that opens, select our downloaded iOS 6.1.3 firmware and click the Open button. At first, iTunes even promises that it will erase and restore the iPhone to iOS 6.1.3 and check the restoration with Apple, here we click the Restore button.

ITunes starts extracting the software and prepares to restore iPhone, the whole process is displayed in the program's status window. But then suddenly iTunes gives error 3194 with the following text:

Failed to restore iPhone "iPhone". An unknown error has occurred (3194).

This causes the iTunes logo and the Lightning USB cable to appear on the iPhone screen. Any attempts to reboot the phone lead us back to the cord and cable. Unfortunately, this is a sad story about how to roll back an iPhone back to iOS 6. After a while iTunes found the iPhone in recovery mode, but it turned out to be a guided mode from which you can still exit.

In fact, while performing the steps to downgrade the iPhone firmware, we already knew what the consequences would be. But now you also know what will happen if you force the iPhone or iPad to swallow the firmware with a version below the existing one.

In addition to preventive and educational purposes, we needed an iPhone driven into a recovery loop, which is what we did as a result. This means that now you will learn how to get iPhone or iPad out of Recovery Loop not only with, but also with the help of the program. If, at your own peril and risk, you decide to insert the iPhone into and out of the Recovery Loop, then do it first.

Apple regularly updates the iOS operating system to ensure that users can take advantage of new features. But not everyone likes these updates - some iPhone and iPad owners prefer to use older versions. How do I rollback iOS if the latest update is inconvenient? To do this, there are two simple tools available even for novice users.

The emergence of new versions of iOS does not mean that the old versions stop working. Only the oldest versions do not work, which are no longer signed by the developer... If you install such an operating system on your device, then its activation will be impossible. This limitation can be circumvented using the iOS Downgrade Tool, but this is only possible if the device is jailbroken.

It is possible to rollback iOS. And experts from Apple made sure that this procedure was as safe as possible. If flashing Android devices can still lead to a loss of functionality, then in the case of the iPhone and iPad, the situation is simpler - failures are practically excluded here. But that doesn't mean we won't need backups. What is the best practice before downgrading iOS?

  • Make a full backup of your device;
  • Save all the necessary files in a safe place;
  • Check if the data is synced with iCloud.

If all the conditions are met, you can safely proceed to downgrade to the previous version of iOS. Where to get the previous firmware for Apple devices? For this there is a site getios.com. After visiting this resource, you will find a simple form in which you will need to select your device, model and the requested version.

It should be noted that the resource contains all versions of the iOS operating system for all devices from Apple ranging from iPhone to Apple TV set-top boxes.

How to return an old version of iOS

To perform this operation, we need a firmware file with the previous version of iOS, a computer with iTunes installed, a smartphone / tablet and a cable. We connect the device to the computer, launch iTunes and wait for the connection to be established.

Once the device is identified, we can proceed with the firmware rollback. To do this, go to the "Overview" tab and click on the "Update" button while holding down the Shift key (Alt in Apple computers). We indicate the location of the previously downloaded file and wait patiently.

As soon as the rollback of the iOS operating system is completed, we activate the device and start using it. If, for some reason, the rollback fails, you can return to the working version - did you save it earlier as a backup copy? If there is a copy, select it and return it. You can now try rolling back again.

Please note that if you are using a version of the operating system that is not signed by the Apple developer, the activation process will not be possible.

As we can see, it is relatively easy to cancel an iOS update and revert to a previous version of the operating system. Any failures are almost impossible here, but you cannot neglect a full backup - you should always have the opportunity to return to a workable firmware.

Before returning the old version of iOS, you need to take care of disabling Find My iPhone - this is done in the iCloud settings. Similarly, this function is disabled in iPad tablets.

IOS Downgrade Tool

We have already said that the oldest versions of the iOS operating system are not signed by Apple. Therefore, you will not be able to install them. And why are they needed? Old versions are outdated, they have a lot of bugs, they consume too much battery power. After all, it is not for this purpose that new versions are developed so that users continue to use old firmware.

Nevertheless, sometimes the need to install the old version still appears. In order to install an old version of the iOS operating system, you need to jailbreak and use the iOS Downgrade Tool. It is easy to use and does not cause any particular difficulties.

At the first stage, you need to install the SSH package on the device - this is done through the Cydia program, created specifically for installing software that is not available in the official AppStore. Next, we need to connect the computer and the IOS device to the same wireless Wi-Fi network and find out which IP address is assigned to the connected device. To do this, you should look into the connection settings or visit the administrative panel of the router.

Next, launch the iOS Downgrade Tool, enter the device's IP address, select the iOS version from the drop-down list, click on the "Downgrade" button - the firmware procedure for the selected version will start. The utility may freeze a little, but this is its normal behavior.

A sign that the downgrade went well will be the restart of the device and its subsequent loading in working mode - now you can enjoy the old version of iOS. Before performing the procedure, do not forget to make a backup copy of all your data, as the flashing provides for their complete deletion.

You can find information on how to jailbreak on a particular device from Apple on the pages of our website or on specialized resources.

While the Internet is seething with news on the topic of bypassing telegram locks and related problems with hosting companies, I had a more serious problem - Innologica updated the Inoreader application for iOS to version 6.

On a quiet weekday evening, the application on the phone was accidentally updated to the latest version. usually nothing foreshadowed trouble. A couple of days later during the trip, the program was launched to read the news and I began to worry in earnest.

You can compare how it was and how it became in two examples:

Of course, the taste and color, and the owners of the iPhone X were clearly pleased with the optimization for amoled screens, but it was this update that prompted them to look for solutions on how to roll back the application, which the AppStore does not allow by default.

Previously, it took 2 minutes to get the ipa - the application file, it was enough to go to apptrackr and download it, but it stopped working and no other similar resources were found that gave an honest download of the ipa file (but what if you know those?).

There are the following ways to get the old version of the application:

  1. You have an old backup of applications from your phone in iTunes, and then you can simply copy the application back (but I didn't have that).
  2. Use a method that has been described hastily by someone on the internet using a software called Charles. This method is described on resources like 4dpa and copied by many people without understanding what is written there at all, however, without additional> 100 grams, it is difficult to deal with this scribble.
Perhaps I will do it more fully, with pictures and in a simpler understandable form. In general, it will take about 5 minutes of time to download the old version software from the AppStore, and in my case it is Mac OS X. The method will obviously work on Windows, too. Charles is also available for this system.

All your torment will begin even before you download Charles. The fact is that if you update iTunes on Mac, then you will not be able to install applications starting from version 12.7. To get it back, you need to install back version 12.6.4.

Short: download the application through the AppStore in iTunes, then turn on the proxy, then download it again, edit the request, send the request, get the old version, install.

In detail: after starting Charles, you need to install the application certificates on the Mac. This is done through the menu HelpSSL ProxyingInstall Charles Root Cetrificate... The certificate then needs to be transferred to the Always Trust status in Keychain Access. If not installed, there will be errors and the method will not work.

In iTunes, we are looking for the Inoreader application (this is suitable for any application, but I was only interested in it at that moment), launch Charles and click in the Download application installation window:

In the Charles window, you see a similar line with the word "buy" in the address associated with the apple server:

For information, you can pay attention to the fact that the size of the downloaded file is 20.4 MB:

Then you need to turn on SSL Proxying to intercept and edit requests:

Since, most likely, you have fast Internet and the application has already been loaded into the application library, you need to delete it from there.

Once again, check that SSL Proxying is enabled and proceed to re-download the application from the AppStore; at the same time, you need to pause the download so that you have time for the next steps. After clicking on Download in the Charles window, another line will appear in the apple server containing the word "buy". Expanding this line, you need to find buyProduct:

On the right in the window, click on Contents and select below XML Text... Scroll down until we find softwareVersionExternalIdentifiers with a list of incomprehensible numbers.

These numbers act as application versions. Accordingly, the lower the number, the older the version of the application. How do I know which version of the application will be loaded? For example, I took the value 823964615 at random from the end of the list:

Now we need to check the version of the application. To do this, we go to "buyProduct" and select from the menu Compose and on the right side of the window is the Text view.

At the very top of the field there will be a familiar set of numbers after the parameter appExtVrsId... This set of numbers is the current version of the application.

Instead of these numbers, we substitute the ones copied above 823964615 and it should look like this:

and do Execute... The program will give you a window and select the display mode XML Text we can find the bundleShortVersionString parameter at the bottom and see that the value we have chosen corresponds to version 5.4.4, which in my case is what we need, since this version is almost the latest before upgrading to 6.0

One step remains. You need to download the whole thing. To do this, in our last edited buyProduct request with the received version 5.4.4 in the menu, select Breakpoints.

Go to the AppStore again to download the Inoreader application (if the application managed to load into the library and you did not manage to stop it, then simply delete it so that you can download it again).

As soon as you click download in iTunes, the Charles window will pop up, where you will need to click on Edit Request and in the already familiar parameter appExtVrsId fix the version to 823964615, press Execute, and then again on Execute.

As a result, you will start downloading the application and you will be able to see that the size of the application has changed to a smaller side:

The program icon with the Update shortcut appears in the itunes application library. This will mean that you did everything right. You can make Get Info of the application and it will be written:

Next, we look at the application where it is located in the file system and save it for the future if you suddenly decide to update the application :)

Upon completion of the work, you should do in Charles Disable SSL Proxying by clicking on the server p30-buy.itunes.apple.com.

I must say that I managed to do this procedure with 2 times.
I hope this will be as useful to someone as it turned out to be for me.

Attention! In this article, I use screenshots from the iPod Touch, but this does not play a significant role. This manual is valid equally for iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Rollback iOS firmware (Downgrade iOS)- installing an older firmware version. Previously, downgrading firmware to old systems was difficult, but more likely. To do this, the user had to save SHSH-certificates (digital signature, unique for each device).

In this case, we are rolling back iOS 9 to iOS 8. These two systems support: iPad 2, iPad Mini 1, iPhone 4s, iPod Touch 5G and newer devices in the lineup. Rollback is possible for all these devices. exclusively on iOS 8.4(as of July 12, 2015) even with SHSH saved.

Now for the general case. As a rule, a rollback to an older firmware version is possible:

a) if the previous firmware is still considered up-to-date. For example, the whole world is currently testing the iOS 9 Public Beta. The official version of iOS 9 will be released in the fall. So, up to this point, the user has the opportunity to flash his device to the current officially iOS 8.4.

b) if the new official firmware has just been released. For example, after the official release of iOS 9, the user will have from 1 to 7 days (maybe a little more) to change his mind and roll back. At some point, Apple suddenly stops signing old firmware and then rollback is impossible or significantly difficult.

The rollback instructions in this case are identical to the firmware via recovery ..

Step 1. We download the firmware from our device, which can be rolled back.

Step 2. Disable the function: “Find iPad, iPhone or iPod” (depending on your device). Settings-> iCloud.

If this is not done, then iTunes will not allow you to carry out the firmware. After flashing, do not forget to turn the option back on.

Step 2. We connect the device to the computer via a cord. We go into iTunes and select the device. We are looking for the "Restore" button and press with the previously pressed Alt-Option (in OS X) or Shift (in Windows) key.

In the new window, select the downloaded firmware. Then in the window that appears, click "Restore" and the restore / rollback process begins.

This must be remembered!

The device will roll back to factory settings. That is, before starting the system, you will have to configure it again (you must at least know the password for the Wi-Fi network).

A backup copy can be rolled onto an older firmware only if you have a backup copy made on the old firmware. This is also why it is recommended that you save a backup to your computer before flashing iOS.

Happy rollback everyone! :) If you have any questions, additions or problems - write comments.
