Overview of GPON technology from Rostelecom - equipment, cost, benefits. PON technology - what is it

PON - what is it?

pon- this is, in fact, a subscriber multiple access technology using a single fiber using time multiplexing (TDM) and separation of frequency paths for receiving / transmitting (WDM). pon- from abbr. Passive Optical Network, which translates as a passive optical network.

What is the working principle of PON network?

All network subscribers pon connected to the provider's equipment via the 1st fiber. Transmission and reception occur at different wavelengths. In order for subscriber signals not to mix in the fiber, each individual subscriber device is always allocated a certain time slice during which it can transmit a signal.

What are the advantages of PON over FTTx?

PON technology has the following advantages:

  • Active equipment is used minimally;
  • Cable infrastructure is minimized;
  • The cost of maintenance is considered low;
  • There is the possibility of integration with cable TV;
  • Excellent scalability;
  • Subscriber ports have a high density.

What information transfer rate is supported by PON technology?

Suggested GEPON technology actually operates at 1.25G, but at the same time, 0.25G is redundant data used to encode the channel. It turns out that the real speed will be - 1G.

What kind of equipment is needed to create a PON network?

OLT(from the abbr. Optical Line Terminal) - an L2 switch equipped with Uplink ports (to connect to the L3 switch), then - Downlink ports (to create a network pon). For example, OLT BDCOM P3310 has 2 optical, 2 copper and 2 "combo" 1G Uplink ports and finally, 4 optical 1G Downlink ports.

ONU(from the abbr. Optical Network Unit) - an excellent VLAN switch in a compact size. Standard ONU equipped with 1 optical 1G port (Uplink) and one 1G or 4 0.1G copper ports (Downlink). There are models ONU with 8, 16 and 24 ports and a model with a CATV receiver.

Splitter (Splitter)- this is a device that operates in a splitting mode in the "provider - client" direction and in a mixing mode in the opposite direction.

SFP OLT Module- is a special transceiver for PON networks. An important difference from standard SFP modules is the higher power and channel coding.

How is a PON network created?

PON network, as a rule, is a tree topology, or a bus topology. Final ONU subscriber devices connect to the port OLT-but through splitters(to port 1 OLT-and it is possible to connect no more than 64-ex ONU). It follows from this that in order to create a basic network pon 64 subscribers require 1 OLT, then 1 module SFP OLT, 64 ONU and finally a few splitters(the number of the latter depends on the type of topology).

What distance does the PON network support?

SFP OLT modules support operation over a distance of 120 km (point-to-point network type), but since, traditionally, the network pon has a tree structure (point-multi-point), the maximum working distance pon, due to branching at fiber splitters, will be about 20 km.

How many subscribers can be connected to the PON network?

When building a network pon- it is good practice to use one ONU- one subscriber. In this case, the number of subscribers will be - 256 per one OLT. If you wish to ONU it is possible to connect a switch. Then the number of subscribers is limited only by the size of the MAC address table itself. OLT, plus - ONU. The following are the sizes of the MAC tables for OLT and individual ONU: OLT P3310-8192, ONU P1004B-1024, ONU P1501B-64, ONU P1504B-2048.

What is the difference between AC, 2-AC, DC and 2-DC OLTs?

The letters DC mean that in order to work OLT-a power supply 36-72V DC voltage is required. Similar OLT-s are necessary when there is a problem in the organization of electrical power supply at 220 V. As an alternative, remote power supply through low-current communication lines is used.

The letters AC mean that OLT is powered by a traditional 220 V electrical network. The mark in the form of the number "2" indicates the number of power sources: this OLT-a there is a backup power supply, which turns on instantly after the emergency failure of the first.

What types of splitters are there?

themselves splitters conditionally can be divided by the number of conclusions and by manufacturing technology. As for the number of output streams, there are splitters here: x2, x3, x4, x6, x8, x12, x16, x24, x32, x64, x128. With regards to manufacturing technology, splitters are divided into welded and planar. More splitters are divided by connector type: conventional (SC / UPC) and special for CATV (SC / APC).

What is the difference between welded and planar splitters?

Splitters, which we called welded - are not equal-arm, namely: they do not divide the signal between the outputs evenly (for example, 5/95, 10/90 ... 45/55, 50/50). Splitters planar - will always be equal arms and have more predictable attenuation at each output, because they have an efficient manufacturing technology. In addition, planar splitters- broadband, and welded - have only 3 transparency windows (1310, 1490 and 1550 nm.).

In what situations are welded splitters used?

In a situation where, for example, it is necessary to split the signal in 2 directions, where, for example, the distance to one end point is 2 km, and to the other - 8 km. In this case, it is quite possible to use a welded splitter 20/80. Splitters welded ones are also used to create a bus topology.

What would be better: weld splitters or maybe use SC connectors?

In such a situation, we get a double-edged sword. One side - welding gives attenuation 10 times less (0.05 dB) than the SC connection (0.5 dB). The other side - SC connectors will provide an opportunity to quickly search for breakdowns in the network by connecting measuring devices. You can find such a compromise: weld Uplink on splitters, and connect Downlink with SC connectors. Here, let everyone decide for himself.

Optical budget - what is it?

This phrase is understood as the difference between laser power per OLT-e and receiving sensitivity on ONU.

Is it possible to branch a PON network into 128 ONUs? (when the optical budget allows it).

No. Even if the signal strength allows the network to branch out again, OLT still has a limit on the number of connected ONU at the physical level. Connect more than 64 ONU possible, but OLT would still register only 64 of them.

How to transmit over PON -- CATV network?

on the side OLT-and you need to install a CATV transmitter and then a CATV amplifier that operate at a wavelength of 1550nm. on the side OLT-and it is necessary to use a CWDM bulb at 1550nm. to inject a CATV signal into the fiber. All others splitters must be with SC/APC connectors. On the subscriber side can be installed ONU with a CATV receiver, or a separate CATV receiver.

Is it possible to use SFP CWDM 1490nm. module instead of SFP PON?

Impossible. Even though the CWDM itself is 1490nm, the module uses the same wavelength as SFP PON, these modules have different channel coding algorithms.

According to PON technology, what Internet speed can be provided to subscribers?

If subscribers pon tree (64 subscribers) will simultaneously download a large amount of information from the Internet, then each subscriber will have a channel of 16 Mbps. And if we also take into account that not all subscribers use the Internet at the same time, and those who do do not consume the channel resource to the maximum, then the subscriber can even account for up to 50 Mbps, sometimes even higher.

Why is it not acceptable for the ONU signal to be less than -26 dBm?

The thing is, if on one / several ONU- the signal level will be very weak (< -26 дБм), то появляется большая вероятность возникновения ошибок в пакетной передаче с таких ONU. In the given case OLT wastes quanta of time to give ONU opportunity to resend the package. These repeated requests degrade network bandwidth efficiency.

What should be taken into account when calculating the PON tree?

To properly build pon tree, you need to take into account the optical loss arising from passive equipment. In theory, pon covers an area with a radius of 20 km. Almost everything depends on the budget of losses on a certain branch of the tree. For a correct calculation, it is better to be guided by the most unprofitable indicators of attenuation, power and sensitivity of the radiation of transmitters.

Copper ports in ONU burn out?

pon the tree is created on an optical fiber and, accordingly, is not affected by thunderstorms, pickups. The problem only arises when one ONU- several users are connected by copper, and ONU placed on a pole. Similar problems are solved by turning on the buffer switch, which is in cases of pickup. thunderstorms take a hit.

How can the optical performance of a line be determined?

To determine the attenuation in the line, you can use special reflectometers for pon(they are much more expensive than usual), or optical testers. When the network is already built, the easiest solution to check signal levels is to use special command interface commands OLT-A.

Can 2 ONUs directly communicate with each other?

Can not. Each exchange of information between ONU going through OLT.

Will ONUs of other brands work with OLT BDCOM P3310?

No. ONU With OLT- this is something unified whole and is a switching system. In the work it is recommended to use equipment from one manufacturer (in some cases, cross-brand compatibility is of course possible).

Does the OLT BDCOM P3310B support - DHCP snooping (Option 82)?

Certainly. But for Option 82 to work effectively ONU Of course, this feature must be supported. Currently, Option 82 only supports ONU P1504B model.

Is the PON network protected from flooding?

The TDM and TDMA technologies used are a guarantee of network flood and broadcast protection.

How can a PON network be taken out of service?

Apart from the obvious methods (cutting the cable), wood pon may stop functioning when a constant radiation at 1310nm appears in it. This rarely happens due to a breakdown. ONU or through the fault of intruders connecting a 1310nm media converter to the splitter.

Is it possible to assign a VLAN to each of the ONU ports separately?

Should I use splitters for CWDM, DWDM systems?

Certainly. Similar construction schemes are possible. Here you need to use planar splitters, because they are wideband.

GPON technology. New among cables or away with ADSL

GPON or Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network is a passive optical network. Some communications experts are already saying that this technology is ahead of its time and is becoming the main way to connect to the worldwide network. What is GPON? It's three in one: high-speed Internet, digital TV and updated telephony with new features available. The development of technology began over 20 years ago. Several PON standards have been tried during this period. Among them are EPON or GEPON (Ethernet PON). He seemed to be quite competitive. But it is GPON that collects rave reviews from specialists and ordinary users. Why? Let's take it step by step, letter by letter.

G - gigabit- capable. At the speed of light

Flow data flies at speeds up to 1 Gb / s. The fundamental difference between GPON is the method of signal transmission. It does not go through a metal conductor, but through a light channel. The speed of the Internet will not be affected by either the WiFi of the neighbors or the power plant near the house. Gigabit Internet at the output is not yet available. The final speed depends on the receiving terminal and can reach 600 Mbps.

MGTS (parent company - MTS) provides its subscribers with an optical modem absolutely free of charge. This gift is made to the subscriber regardless of the chosen tariff. In any case, the price is usually not high. The list of offered free models includes ONT SERCOM RV6699 and ZTE ZXHN 670. These terminals operate at a frequency of 5 GHz. Network access is not affected by the waves of other household appliances, which means that the Internet speed does not drop even during peak hours.

Briefly expressing the essence, we can say about GPON that it is a 7 GB HD movie in 5 minutes at any time of the day.

P - passive. Looking for an apartment without intermediaries

According to GPON technology, the network approaches each household separately, and not to a multi-storey building, as it was before. Cable lead directly to the apartment and leave it in the wall. Pulling wire through skirting boards is expensive and unsafe. Fragile optical fiber is easy to damage and expensive to repair. There must be a socket at the cable entry point. The ONT (Optical Network Terminal) subscriber terminal is connected here. Optical modems of the new generation support speeds up to 600 Mb/s. All communication service settings are made through ONT, you can monitor the status of your account through your personal account on the MGTS website.

Through a modem, you can connect all communication services: high-speed Internet, digital television, telephony, video surveillance, "smart home" system. The GPON network supports each of these formats. To watch digital television, universal HD set-top boxes are used. They are also offered to their customers by MGTS. The choice is wide enough. You can always find and buy what is right for you. Both the options and the appearance of the equipment differ.

O - optical. Cable is not the same

To make GPON work, as it works, say, in the USA, Russian providers cannot use the existing infrastructure - they must create a new one. Yes, GPON is a cable system, but not copper or even fiber. This is optics.

N - network. The network that keeps your data safe

Statistics show that the GPON network in Russia is growing rapidly. Almost 2 million subscribers are registered in Moscow alone. Users are moving to the new standard knowing GPON and understanding what it is:

      • High data rate;
      • Convenience and compactness of the equipment;
      • Saving. Internet, TV and telephony, as a rule, providers provide in one package;
      • Safety. The signal going through the optical cable is almost impossible to intercept. For example, listening to conversations will be impossible.

GPON is a rapidly growing network of subscribers. The largest GPON provider in the Russian market is MGTS. They own most of the networks and related infrastructure. You can check if a connection is available in your home.

The first computer communication session took place about 50 years ago in the United States of America. The distance between the points was 640 km. This event gave rise to the emergence of the "Global Web". But before the Internet, there was another network - ARPANET, available only to a select circle of businesses and individuals. Outside computer owners have only been able to connect to it since 1991. In 1993, the NCSA Mosaic web browser appeared. Its appearance became a prerequisite for the massive development of the Internet.

But soon the mere ability to access the network to users was not enough. They would like to send and receive data at high speed. In this regard, such concepts as "information transfer rate in bits" and "bandwidth" appeared.

Today it is possible to connect to the Internet by wired or wireless means. Relatively recently, wired GPON technology began to be introduced into our lives and has already gained immense popularity in the field of digital communications. It began to develop most rapidly in Japan, South Korea, the United States of America and the countries of the European Union. Yes, and in Russia there are already several hundred thousand network subscribers. Experts are confident that this innovation has broad prospects and can compete with GEPON and PON technologies.

GPON technology is promoted by the largest Russian providers: Rostelecom, MGTS, Megafon. This means that she is very popular. Let's take a closer look at how it works.

What is GPON, how it works and how it works

The abbreviation GPON stands for Gigabit Passive Optcal Network (gigabyte passive optical systems). Using this optical network, the provider provides access to telephony, television and the Internet, the data transfer rate of which is 1 GB per second. In this case, the speed of the incoming channel is equal to the speed of the outgoing one.

By installing GPON equipment, you can connect to the Internet at a speed of 10 Mbps - 2.5 Gbps. The connection is made via an ONT modem with built-in Wi-Fi. This provides the ability to access the network from any device.

GPON technology allows you to use multiple phone numbers at the same time. In addition, the following additional services are available:

  • SIP telephony;
  • security and fire alarm;
  • CCTV;
  • telemetry;
  • digital interactive television, including HD content.

In terms of topology, GPON is similar to a tree. Passive splitters, called splitters, are installed on its nodes. Specialists lead a fiber optic cable into a subscriber's private house, apartment or office, install an optical socket and connect an optical modem, which is more correctly called a GPON terminal.

In appearance, this device resembles a Wi-Fi router, but instead of an Ethernet connector, it uses an external optical port of the SC standard. The following devices can be connected to this router:

  • TV;
  • laptop;
  • desktop computer;
  • mobile phone;
  • tablet.

This technology allows the client to use the full potential of fiber optic cable, which provides high speed and quality of data transmission. By the way, when connecting the Internet using ADSL technology, one channel is allocated to one apartment building, which is divided among all subscribers.

Equipment

Currently, fiber optic modems are manufactured by various companies.

The most common are:

  • Huawei;
  • Eltex;
  • SERCOM.

If you have a choice, choose the HG8245 or HG8247 modem from Huawei, as these devices work best. The equipment of other companies is of lower quality, which affects the operation of the system.

Advantages and disadvantages of GPON technology

GPON technology, against the background of a small number of shortcomings, has a lot of advantages, for which it is very popular.

Advantages:

  • fiber optic installation directly to the user;
  • high channel capacity;
  • independence of the fiber from electromagnetic interference;
  • inability to connect third-party users to the network;
  • no problems from the line-cable network during peak hours;
  • possibility of simultaneous connection of several services from one channel;
  • lack of intermediate equipment in the user's section t to the PBX;
  • resistance to moisture due to the lack of electricity in the system;
  • no danger of electric shock.

Flaws:

  • cable sensitivity to kinks;
  • the possibility of damage to the cable by pets, provided it is laid on the floor.

The next point does not refer to the shortcomings, but rather to the features of the fiber optic network. To reduce the length of the line, experts install a modem near the hole through which they pulled the fiber. Therefore, it is also necessary to place a 220-volt outlet here. It can also be installed by professionals.

A few words about installation. It should only be carried out by professionals.

You will not be able to connect to the GPON network on your own for several reasons:

  1. Firstly, in any case, the provider's specialists will bring the fiber optic cable into the apartment.
  2. Secondly, you need to purchase a stationary OLT terminal supported by an ONT router. If you make the wrong choice, the system will not work.
  3. Thirdly, subscriber modems provided by providers are automatically configured if they are included in the list of supported ones. You will not be able to set up your devices on your own.

Summing up, we can say that GPON technology is undoubtedly promising, since it provides subscribers with a wide range of services. The presence of some disadvantages is blocked by the advantages that this technology has. But only specialists should be engaged in the installation of the system.

It is difficult to imagine the life of a modern person without the Internet, and over the years, consumers of telecommunications services want to have a better high-speed connection. The first people in the West thought about how to offer the population a truly high-quality Internet that can satisfy even the most demanding customers. While in Russia many people still had a vague idea of what the "world wide web" was, in England they were already talking about gigabit PON technology, or optical passive networks. In the Russian Federation, Rostelecom was engaged in the implementation of GPON, the first to offer to connect three services at once using this innovative technology - the Internet, interactive television and telephone.

After talking with neighbors and acquaintances who have appreciated the quality of Rostelecom's GPON technology, many do not even know what they will have to deal with. Therefore, we will briefly describe what this technology is and what advantages it has. First of all, we note that this technology is passive, and in this case it means that there is no additional active equipment on the path of the Internet optical line from the service provider to the client.

Of course, it cannot be said that there are no barriers at all, since the direct laying of an expensive cable is very expensive, just in some places the signal is divided. For this, a special device is used - a splitter, or an optical splitter, which divides the Rostelecom fiber into several lines. It remains unclear how such a long-awaited Internet will get to the end user, and what equipment is used for this.

Optical fiber equipment

To convert the signal into an Ethernet interface that we can understand, another unique device is used - ONT, or optical terminal. Devices of this type are presented in a wide range, and it can be either a standard device with two Ethernet ports and one PON port, or a full-fledged Rostelecom GPON router, which has a number of advantages in the form of:

  • four gigabit Ethernet ports;

Important! The zero and first ports are used exclusively for high-speed Internet connection, and ports 3 and 4 are used to organize the viewing of IP-television.

  • two connectors for IP-telephony are provided;
  • it is possible to connect interactive IPTV;
  • Rostelecom's GPON signal is distributed via Wi-Fi (802.11n standard with a bandwidth of up to 300 megabits per second).

Users of the "world wide web" with a speed of 100 Mbps will no longer be surprised. With the use of Rostelecom's GPON equipment, the possibilities of the Internet will soon be limited to gigabytes of information received per second. To support such high speeds, and especially when it comes to long distances of information transfer, only an optical cable can. Moreover, Rostelecom's optics do not enter the apartment through a copper cable, as is the case with the FTTH bandwidth, but by dividing the signal using a special optical splitter. After installing the modem, however, you will encounter the problem of configuring it. It is not difficult to do this, using our advice.

Modem setup

The equipment used by the telecommunications service provider is presented in a wide variety, but the first thing you will have to face in order to organize a high-quality fiber connection and Rostelecom connection is the choice of a modem. Experts assure that one of the advantages of GPON technology is its versatility, and devices of any equipment manufacturer of this series will work correctly in a fiber optic system. Thus, the need to use rare expensive equipment is eliminated, which can significantly reduce Internet costs. Anyone can configure a router for GPON from Rostelecom by following a certain sequence of actions.

As a rule, setting up equipment does not require special knowledge. At the same time, you don’t even have to configure the basic functions of the router, since the provider has already done this for you, but in case you bought the equipment at the Rostelecom office. If you bought the router yourself, you will have to search the Internet for detailed instructions on setting up the device, since the procedure differs depending on the manufacturer and model. You can check the modem settings in the web configuration, and for the RTK G PON ONT RFT620 ONT device, which is most often used by the RTK, it looks like this:

  • in the address bar, enter the address 192.168.1.254;
  • in the window that opens, enter your data: username and password;
  • as for the network settings, you can only familiarize yourself with them, and you should not change the standard settings from the provider;
  • then turn on the Wi-Fi module in the network;
  • change security settings;
  • set static or dynamic IP addresses.

Difficulties may arise if you use some models of routers with the ability to distribute Wi-Fi, for which you will have to configure the wireless network configuration. To set up a PPPoE connection, you will be prompted to enter the login and password provided when concluding the contract for the supply of services. Usually this does not take much time and everything happens without problems, but in some cases, without the intervention of the support service, it is necessary.

Technology Benefits and Possible Speeds

The fact that the fiber-optic Internet provider Rostelecom has simply “outstanding” performance in terms of speed is out of the question - it's hard to believe, but 1 Gbit / second is far from the limit. As for other advantages of "optics", the following deserves special attention:

  • It is much easier to install fiber optic lines, which the installers have already appreciated - unlike old cables, the fiber optic in the apartment is no thicker than a ballpoint pen, and the cable is attached with self-adhesive clips that do not spoil the appearance of the room and can be easily removed if necessary.

Remember! Despite the elasticity and strength, experts do not recommend making a bend at an angle of 90 °, and this can be considered a disadvantage of the system. In the corners, a bend with a radius of 25-50 millimeters is allowed.

  • The fiber optic cable has a high degree of electrical safety, there is a risk of suffering from laser radiation, but this can be avoided without looking into the optical socket connector.
  • The GPON modem from Rostelecom is also a good energy saving, since the device is powered by a 12-volt element, and the cost of lighting is about 30 rubles. per month.
  • Versatility, since now you can enjoy high-quality digital fiber optic television, use the Internet and Rostelecom phone, and at the same time the apartment will not be cluttered with numerous cables and sockets.

Unfortunately, there is no eternal equipment and impeccable technologies, no one is immune from problems with fiber optic lines. The first thing you should pay attention to if the signal is lost is connecting the terminal. Try to connect the cable directly, and if there is no power, you need to contact the specialists. You can find out about the reasons for the disconnection and how to solve any problem in the technical service. To facilitate the solution of many technical issues and to receive timely information support, Rostelecom specialists suggest creating a personal account on the service provider's website. In it, you can find out the availability of funds in the account, change the tariff and pay for services.

GPON Internet Tariffs

Prices are different for each region!

For many users, the issue of the cost of telecommunications services is far from being idle, and in this regard, the tariffs for fiber from Rostelecom can be called "democratic", given the range of services offered. The user, by the way, can choose the service himself: home Internet, television, landline or mobile phone, terminal rental, while you can order a separate service, or you can combine packages. Tariffs, in fact, depend on the range of offers, and, according to user reviews, they are affordable today. It is also worth remembering that prices for each region may differ, and on the official website of the RTC you can always get acquainted with promotions and great deals.

GPON from Rostelecom is of interest to many users. Let's get acquainted with this technology and all its features together.

For many years, Internet access was via ADSL. This technology is based on the use of copper cable. Specialized signal processing equipment is also used.

What are the disadvantages of ADSL?

  • Low data rate.
  • There may be problems with the signal, it is not always stable.
  • To connect to the network you need to buy a modem.
  • It is impossible to fully use services that need fast Internet.

Now Rostelecom's GPON technology is replacing ADSL. In large cities, the old standard is no longer used. In small settlements, the transition to new technology is still underway.

There was also an ETTH connection. This standard outperforms ADSL, but was still imperfect. Therefore, specialists have been working for a long time to create a new solution.

Technology Features

What is fundamentally different GPON? This technology is based on the use of fiber optic cables. They significantly win against the background of copper, they allow you to increase the stability of the network and the speed of data transfer.

We list the advantages of technology:

  1. You do not need to buy a Rostelecom GPON terminal and a router. If desired, you can connect the cable directly to your computer.
  2. Thousands of clients can be connected to the network without loss of signal quality.
  3. The Internet is stable.
  4. It will not depend on the current weather.
  5. Provides high speed. G is the designation for gigabit internet.
  6. Fiber optics can last for many years. The cable does not oxidize during operation.
  7. Based on this technology, new solutions with increased data transfer rates are being developed.
  8. Subscribers have no problems with further use of the Internet.

GPON has already become the company's base solution. The technology provides access speed up to 100 Mbps. This is enough for online games, fast file downloads and high-definition video viewing.

Rostelecom also offers connection to XPON in large cities. The data transfer rate for this technology has been increased to 200 Mbps. This is an excellent parameter, RT was one of the first to master the new standard.

How realistic is the indicated speed?

Many customers are faced with a situation where the actual speed differs from the declared one. You can check it on the site http://www.speedtest.net/ru. Required:

  • Enter the portal.
  • Click on the "Start" button.
  • The system will take the measurement.
  • After its completion, the parameters will be provided.

Usually, the real speed at Rostelecom differs slightly from the declared one. It depends on the current load on the provider's network. In the evening, the parameter may decrease slightly, but in reality this fact is not critical for users.

GPON equipment Rostelecom

It is not necessary to buy specialized equipment. You can directly connect the cable to your computer and use the Internet. This fact is one of the advantages of GPON.

When do you need a router?

  1. Your laptop does not have RJ-45. Many manufacturers have stopped installing this port because they want to achieve the minimum thickness of the device.
  2. You want to use a wireless network.
  3. You need to connect several devices to the Internet at once.

GPON router Rostelecom can be purchased not only from the provider, but also at any hardware store. There are many models on the market in various price categories. You will definitely find the right device.

You can view the equipment from the provider on the page https://rt.ru/homeinternet/device_inet. The cost of routers starts from 2100 rubles, it depends on the characteristics of the model.

GPON Rostelecom - tariffs

Attention! Rates vary by region. The provider adjusts prices in cities to make its services affordable for customers. Therefore, you will have to check the data on the official website of the company.

Consider the provider's current tariffs using the example of one of the regions:

  • 15 Mbps - 450 rubles.
  • 50 Mbps - 550 rubles.
  • 100 Mbps - 650 rubles.
  • 200 Mbps - 750 rubles.
  • Gaming - 200 Mbps + router + gaming options for 850 rubles.

Setting up GPON Rostelecom

If you purchased the equipment from the provider when connecting, then the wizard will configure the Rostelecom GPON router. After laying the cable, he will install the modem, enter all the parameters and check the operation. You can immediately start using the Internet.

If the equipment was purchased later, you will have to configure it yourself. Necessary:

  1. Install equipment.
  2. Connect the cable to the WAN and connect to power through the adapter.
  3. Insert the patch cord into the LAN port.
  4. Connect it to your computer.
  5. Log in to your PC browser.
  6. Enter the address 192.168.0.1 in the line. It may differ for devices from different manufacturers.
  7. The default username and password is admin.
  8. Go to the "Network" section in the menu.
  9. Select WAN.
  10. Specify the connection type PPPoE/Russia PPPoE.
  11. Enter your credentials.
  12. Save your settings.

Credentials are a username and password. Where to find them? Usually this information is specified in the contract. If these parameters are not in the documents, then call the contact center.

Is it necessary to connect the router to the computer via a patch cord? Yes, you can't do without it. But since many modern laptops do not have RJ-45, users have connection problems.

How to be?

  • You can purchase an adapter for a USB port. It can be found in hardware stores.
  • Borrow a laptop from friends that is equipped with RJ-45.
  • Invite the wizard and notify him that you do not have a device to complete the setup. He will take a laptop or adapter with him.

The second stage is the creation of a wireless network. Necessary:

It is mandatory to set a password. It is necessary to protect the network from third-party connections and data interception. The password should not be easy, otherwise it can be cracked using specialized programs. It is better to come up with complex code and write it down in a notepad.

To avoid entering a password, you can use WPS. On the device, select the connection to the network through this standard. Find the WPS button on the router case and press it. The modem transmits secret codes to automatically connect the device.
