What else can the magic SOS button on the CP10 (2010) do?

A very unusual application of the SOS button has been found by users of the CP10 and CP10 SPACE mobile phones. If the SOS button is switched to the operating mode, while not programming any numbers for it, then when an incoming call is received, the receiver is automatically lifted and the caller perfectly hears everything that is happening in the room. Now imagine that you put your mobile phone in silent mode, turned on the SOS button and left it "accidentally" at home ...

The CP10S and BRICK have a new design (CP10S is an update and improvement of the popular CP10, and the BRICK design was worked on by the "Art. Lebedev Studio"), the devices have a new color screen, a completely new and even more convenient and contrasting interface, a new micro-usb charging format and new SuperButton functions. With all this, the phones retained all the advantages of the previous Just5 series (external switches, large convenient buttons, a powerful battery and much more).

Will Just5 mobile phone work with my SIM card?

Just5 mobile phones, depending on the model, operate in the GSM 900/1800/850/1900 standard and will work with any mobile operator that supports this standard.

What are the features of the JUST5 BRICK simple phone?

The main feature of BRICK is the design by Art. Lebedev Studio. The device has a base similar to CP10S and the same interface. Differences from the CP10S, except for the design: a long extendable antenna for FM radio, a lock button on the back of the phone (instead of a Super Button), auto-lock, no SOS function. This is the only Just5 device that can safely stand on either side!

Why is the SOS button on the back of simple Just5 phones needed?

This is a very useful feature - an emergency call. When you press the "SOS" button located at the back, a loud siren sounds, attracting the attention of others. At the same time, the mobile phone starts sequentially (one after the other) to dial four pre-entered numbers (these can be close, or emergency services). When a connection is established with one of them, this person will hear everything that happens. The microphone is very sensitive. And just in case, SMS messages with pre-written text will be sent to these numbers. It could be the text "I need help!" or something different.

What were smartphones like five years ago, what was the iPhone? Can you compare with modern flagships? Of course not. These devices have come a long way and have now turned into almost a full-fledged computer in your pocket. There are only two problems. People who love to stand out from the crowd with an iPhone won't stand out anymore. With the help of the Korean "soap" Galaxy S, by the way, too. But this is a problem of perception of the world. For sane citizens, the main thing is that the apparatus fulfills the assigned tasks, and it does it, only for a short time. Unfortunately, over the same five years, there have been no cardinal changes in the field of batteries. On average, with the active use of the mobile Internet, a modern smartphone, including the iPhone, hardly survives until the evening, and often does not. But what a bummer when you urgently need to call, but the battery of your favorite gadget has already been planted to zero, but it was not with you. In such situations, good old mobile phones are saved without frills. A kind of "dialers" with a small display and hardware alphanumeric keyboard, working for days without an outlet. Just5 CP10S will easily play such a role, and even attract the attention of others, if this is important to you. Moreover, this product is so versatile that it is perfect for both an elderly person and a fashionable hipster, and any child will be delighted. Let's talk about this.

A real iPhone in the "babushkophone" market

In 2009, Just5 reinvented the mobile phone - so now it is fashionable to speak at the suggestion of a well-known American manufacturer. More precisely, she offered a device that is convenient for the elderly, and got into the top ten. A simple phone with large keys, a convenient menu and large print captivated the audience right away and won a prestigious award Red Dot Design Award and laid the foundation for a new branch of development of this kind of devices. Since then, many similar solutions have appeared, all sorts of alternatives, and Just5 has not stood still.

Moreover, the company was even able to improve the basic idea and at the same time preserve the fundamental principles of these gadgets, as evidenced by the new model Just5 CP10S... Yes, there are models that are more functional, there are cheaper ones, but the original still sets the bar for quality ... some kind of marketing hell has begun. But the phone really impressed me. This is a kind of iPhone among simple "dialers" and it is packed in a premium way:

The box is made of high-quality and thick cardboard with a magnetic flap, packed in a silvery dust jacket. It looks impressive, feels great. Inside is a thick manual in several languages, and below it is the phone itself:

By the way, such a large package surprised and even caused nostalgia for the old days, when phones were packed in suitcase-sized boxes. The smart phone hid under the phone orange charger and micro-USB cable, as well as simple headphones. It's a shame they aren't orange either.

There was also a 1000 mAh battery, which is quite good for such a phone:

I got a turquoise pattern with orange accents, although there are many other color options in the assortment:

The design of the gadget is cool, and the keyboard with huge buttons is a song. A clear click, you can easily hit the keys and, in general, I missed the hardware alphanumeric keyboards, especially those so convenient. You click on the buttons and you don't want to let go of the phone.

But there are tons of other features besides the keyboard. Due to the rounded shape, the phone resembles a pebble, and the rounded display glass only enhances the effect. Matte plastic with a slight Soft Touch effect is pleasant to the touch, does not slip in the hands and does not get particularly dirty.

All controls and technical holes are located on the edges of the device, including a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top, FM (radio start) and volume controls on the left, a lever for turning on the flashlight and, attention! keyboard lock lever- on the right side. Yes, yes, the keyboard is not blocked by a key combination, as in other phones, but by a simple slider. This is primarily done for the convenience of older people, who find it easier to move the lever than to quickly click on a couple of buttons. On the bottom there is a micro-USB port and a pair of contacts for the dock and accessories.

Apart from a couple of levers, everything is more or less standard, but do not rush. There is also an emergency button on the back. It can be configured for different actions. For example, you can enter an emergency number, to which a call will be made by clicking, or add an SOS message and in case of problems with one click, you can send it to a specific number. Also convenient for the elderly and children. Suddenly, the grandmother will take a heart - just make one click to warn the relatives.

The back cover is removed with a slight movement (put your palm and pull down) - click - and you can insert the SIM card. Note that the SIM holder is not the most convenient. In this case, it is problematic to use cut cards through an adapter. In principle, I do not recommend even trying to do this. The adapter may get stuck and then you cannot do without an operation in the service center.

But it's better to show it once than to describe it in words many times. I propose to take a look at the video review of the device, and at the same time to superficially evaluate its menu:

Operating experience. Click, click, click!

I have already lost the habit of simple mobile phones that do not work without a SIM card. Together with Just5 CP10S I had to get used to it again and to look for a full-size card. A couple of movements, removed and inserted the battery, closed the phone, that's it - you can work. The first launch and the first questions from the gadget: the choice of language, date and time - a standard set.

After that, you can start working with the device. According to the first one, the unusual designations of the cellular network signal (a square spiral), the battery charge (a square divided into four parts) and an angular font are somewhat confusing, but you get used to it over time. Plus it is well legible, the icons and letters are large, easily distinguishable in any conditions.

Dealing with the menu will not be difficult and you can do it by "typing" or look into the instructions, everything is described there literally on one page. The scheme is simple: the buttons on the left (OK) and on the right (X) under the screen are responsible for confirming or refusing to work with the menu, or for activating the current function, depicted as an icon: on the left - missed call, on the right - message. Clicking on the upper part of the central paired button on the main screen is a menu call. In other cases, she is responsible for navigating through the points.

The menu is as compact and simple as possible and consists of only a few items: settings, messages, calls, organizer and contacts. We know all of them from any other "dialers" and the hero of the review is not particularly different in this regard.

Although some points are worth paying attention to. For example, there is support for airplane mode:

Setting the time to turn the phone on and off:

And also good applications in the organizer section. There is even one game by which you can understand that the display is actually color, and not monochrome:

The phone ring is very loud and sharp. There is no bass at all, but it is simply impossible not to hear it. There are several ringtones to choose from, which are more than enough for this kind of gadget. The internal speaker is also quite good, I can hear the interlocutor well, and me on the other end of the line too.

The flashlight is not particularly powerful, but it will be enough to illuminate your path in the dark or the keyhole. But the white key backlighting is bright and cheerful - even with poor eyesight, the inscriptions on the buttons will not merge into one bright spot and will be clearly distinguishable.

The phone is as simple as a log, but cool. It is pleasant to hold and comfortable to use. There are no additional functions, like an MP3 player, but they are not needed. The pensioner will only call, and with convenience, without squinting, trying to read small letters, and not aiming at each button with his fingernail. If this is a backup phone (hipsters should like it), then it doesn't need any special functions, because besides there is an iPhone, iPad or some other “smart” gadget.

Let's take a look at this cell phone - find out, so to speak, what it looks like. Let's start the inspection from the box of the device:

Judging by the design of the packaging, this is a youth product, everything is so bright and cheerful.

Opening the box (by the way, it closes with a kind of magnetic lock), we saw a phone in a bag, lying in a recess made of foam rubber (or something very similar to it).

The set comes with the phone:

  • battery
  • Charger
  • wired headset
  • instruction in Russian

Cell phone looks are unusual but vaguely familiar. If we remove the acid green color of the case and the large buttons, we get something classic from the 2003 sample.

Before turning on the device, we decided (purely from a scientific point of view, of course) to disassemble it a little in order to see the "insides" of the Just5 product:

Just5 CP10, with the good old red backlight (it was she who played a big role in the associative comparison of this mobile phone with the best representatives of the mobile communication market eight years ago), is very easy to use and does not have any excesses (under them, according to the manufacturer, you should understand something useful and modern).

The main part of the phone's area is reserved for the keyboard with large and convenient buttons and about only a third - for the display. The size of the buttons is 1.5x1.2cm. It is the size of the buttons that makes this phone convenient for people with thick fingers, poor coordination (for example, drunk) or poor eyesight.

The manufacturer positions this solution for active youth, all sorts of party-goers (after all, it will be very convenient for them to use the device in dimly lit nightclubs and other hot spots, thanks to the bright backlight and display and keys) and children. As the representative of the agency put it, that provided us with the phone, specifically about who it is intended for - "... for a generation for whom the joke is very important." Yes, it is difficult to argue - by today's standards, the appearance of the device can not be called anything but cool, but it is not for us to decide whether it is good or bad.

For fun (well, for the sake of checking the dimensions declared by the manufacturer), we decided to measure the phone buttons using a clever device, popularly referred to as a "meter" or "tape measure":

We were not deceived, dear readers, everything corresponds to the declared size. Big buttons are really big

It may seem to many that a small display is inconvenient, but thanks to the large font with which information is displayed on the screen, everything is readable without any strain on the eyes.

Notice how the word "Erase" is displayed

The body is made of practical matte plastic, which does not get dirty and does not leave any marks from touching. It is equipped with a metal edging along the entire perimeter, although it is not clear whether such a case is shockproof (i.e. whether it can be dropped without fear from a height of human growth onto any surface or not).

On the left side of the body of the mobile phone there are a volume control button and a radio button.

The radio can be tuned manually, or you can let the phone find stations by itself:

The volume of music playback is very high, so the device can be used without headphones / headset, thereby annoying people around you with your musical tastes

On the right side of the case there is a switch that is responsible for blocking the keyboard from accidental clicks and another "switch", thanks to which the LED flashlight is turned on and off, which is located at the end of the phone in the same place as the connectors for the charger and headset.

After testing the flashlight in a closed room, devoid of light, we came to the conclusion that it works quite well for itself, i.e. illuminates the object to which it is directed, one might say, in detail.

As mentioned above, you can listen to the radio without a headset - the signal is received well, but you've already heard about the volume.

The telephone set consists of seven items:

1. Messages:

Only text messages are supported; there are such options as "send to many", in this case the SMS will be sent to several recipients at the same time, "add a number from contacts", "add a name from contacts", "insert a template" (here everything is clear without explanation) and there is an opportunity to choose " input method ": Rus, RUS, rus, rus T9, numeric and symbols.

2. Call history:

Here you can view the dialed numbers, received and missed calls, and the call time.

3. Contacts:

You can create up to 500 contacts, which seems to be quite a good indicator.

4. Profiles:

In this menu item, you can select a ringtone from 10 polyphonic melodies available in the phone memory, adjust the call volume or set the vibration alert.

5. Settings:

Typical phone settings are offered: network settings, enabling or disabling PIN-code verification at device startup, all sorts of reminders and restoring factory settings (reset to default mode).

6. Alarm clock:

There are 5 of these alarms. It sounds strange, but during the day you can assign (hereinafter we quote the instructions) "up to five reminders in time". The phone was made in China, probably the same figures (the builders of communism from the Middle Kingdom) wrote the manual for the device, sometimes it is difficult to understand something.

7. Calculator with the simplest mathematical operations: + - x / =

On the back is a rather big, bright orange SOS button.

Its purpose is to send short messages to pre-selected subscriber numbers (there can be up to 5 of them), and then make calls in the order of the specified SOS numbers. And the whole thing is happening under a terribly loud siren (details in the video at the end of the material)! Definitely a useful thing for people who have had a misfortune, but such that dialing a number in the usual way is completely impossible.

So, the main features of Just5 CP10 are large buttons with large symbols on them, loud sound and the presence of an SOS switch.
Another plus of large buttons (in addition to those listed in the material earlier) - with their help it is convenient to use the phone outside in winter, you can dial a number or SMS without taking off your gloves.

Official characteristics of Just 5 CP10

  • case type: monoblock
  • monochrome screen
  • alarm clock, calculator, flashlight, SOS emergency call button
  • FM radio
  • Speakerphone
  • battery, 1000 mAh, Li-Ion, talk time 8 h, standby time 200 h
  • dimensions: 107.6x50.8x17.2mm
  • weight: 98 grams
  • price: 3 930 rub.

Here we briefly reviewed a mobile phone from Just5. The mobile phone confidently holds the signal, the connection is clear and smooth, you can hear the person on the other side perfectly, dialing SMS is a pleasure, but there is one "but" - despite the fact that the manufacturer positions CP10 as a product for active young people, we had serious doubts about the fact that today's youth, spoiled by iPhones and other devices with touch screens and media functions or Internet access, will pay attention to such an ambiguous product as the CP10, even despite the cheerful look of a mobile phone. It seems that a cell phone with a monochrome display nowadays looks like a relic of the past, even considering its originality.

One of the not obvious advantages of the phone is the fact that the "pipe" can be used anywhere, "shine" it as you want, without fear of theft of the device, because few people will covet the CP10, in view of its anachronistic nature. Speaking of the cost of the solution - in our opinion, the red price of such a "pipe" is a thousand, maximum one and a half thousand rubles, but not 3900+. Are the big buttons so popular to tear the customer off the road? Let our dear readers answer this question.

Finally, watch a tiny video showing the process of turning on the phone, the operation of the radio and the SOS signal:

p.s. Despite the fact that the manufacturer does not allow calling his creation a "babushkophone" (if only because it is really not a "babushkophone"), it should be noted that this mobile phone would perfectly suit the elderly or physically handicapped people - for all parameters other than price.

We are grateful to "Information and Analytical Agency of Marina Rozhkova" and personally to Marina Rozhkova and Lyudmila Shamatrina for the device provided for writing the material
