You can, of course, log into your account from a computer, but the functionality will be severely curtailed, you will not be able to upload photos and videos, and almost all settings will be unavailable. Those. in general, from a computer, you can only view your account and make some changes to personal data.

Therefore, you can fully work with Instagram only from the official application for mobile devices, and if you do not have a smartphone or tablet, then you simply cannot work in this social network.

All the steps from the instructions below are performed on a smartphone with the Android operating system, so if you have a different operating system, some points may differ.

Posting a photo or video

Click the "Camera" button and you will be taken to the section for publishing photos and videos. There will be 3 tabs "Gallery", "Photo", "Video".

The "Gallery" button (may be called differently) is designed to publish images or videos already saved on your mobile device. To publish a finished photo or video from your device, you need to select the section of images and videos from your device (if your device has categories) by clicking the button at the top (2). Next, select a photo or video from the viewing area at the bottom (3).

The "Photo" button (1) allows you to immediately take a photo from your mobile device, beautifully arrange the resulting photo and publish it. All you have to do is press the capture button (2) and the picture will be taken. Then it remains to apply effects, sign the photo, etc., what will be about.

The "Video" button - shoots a video, respectively, applies effects if necessary and publishes. To shoot a video, you need to press the shoot button (1) and hold it while the video is being recorded. To go to the next publishing step, click "Next", where you can set up effects for the video, add a description, etc., about which.

If you do not like the recorded video, click "Delete" and try to record.

Photo and video sharing settings

When publishing a photo, after selecting the photo itself, a window for applying effects will open. The button at the top (1) allows you to adjust the brightness of the image. Next, on the "Filter" tab (2) you can choose one of the ready-made filters (3) for your image.

On the Edit tab (1) you can adjust many settings (2) for your image, such as saturation, detail, color, warmth, etc. Click Next (3) to proceed to the next publishing step.

That's it, the photo will appear in your account and Instagram users will be able to see it!

Publishing a video is almost no different. After selecting a video for publication, the filter settings will open, one of which you can apply to the video. You can also set a cover for the video.

Search for interesting or familiar people on Instagram

A huge number of people “hang out” on Instagram, including various celebrities, including foreign ones. You can find people of interest to you (including your friends) and subscribe to their accounts in order to follow their new publications, i.e. photos and videos.

For this purpose, the search section (magnifying glass) is used. In the search section at the top, there are 4 buttons for different search options:

Button number 1 allows you to search immediately by all criteria, namely, by the user's full name and login on Instagram, search for publications by hashtags, as well as by the location of the shooting.

Button number 2 - search by user's full name or by his login on Instagram.

Button number 3 - search for publications (photos and videos) by hash tags.

A hashtag is any set of characters after the # sign. It can be some kind of phrase or one word starting with #, which combines the meaning of a group of some videos, photos. Hashtags are invented by users themselves when publishing their posts in social networks and, accordingly, these hashtags can be anything.

Button number 4 - search for publications by location.

The search query itself is entered in the line at the top (6).

If you are looking for a person on Instagram, and not a publication, then use the button No. 1 or No. 2, respectively. In the search query, you can type the last name and first name of the person you are looking for and then search for him from the list of found users that appears. For example, if you search for the famous comedian Pavel Volya, then you can type “will” in the search and the desired person will appear at the very beginning of the list of found people.

By going to the found person, you can see his photos and videos that he has already published, if the account of the found person is not closed from viewing. Below you see an example of an open account, because all publications are visible and there is no “This is a closed account” in the middle. By clicking the "Subscribe" button (1) you become subscribers of this person and then you can follow the appearance of his new publications in your Instagram news feed. The "Contact" button (2) allows you to send a message to a person.

Please note that if you are searching for a celebrity, then officially verified celebrity accounts have a blue checkmark next to their name (3). However, this does not mean that absolutely all real celebrity accounts are like this. Some of them may already have their own Instagram account, but they have not yet confirmed their identity and then a checkmark will not be displayed next to them.

If the account is closed, then you can see the publications of a person only after this person approves you. To do this, click "Subscribe" and this button will change to "Requested". This means that you sent a request to a person and if he approves you, then you can then view his publications.

Search for posts already posted by people (photos and videos) on Instagram

If you are looking for publications, then use the search buttons No. 3 (search by hashtags) and No. 4 (search by shooting address).

Suppose you are looking for something related to gymnastics. To do this, by pressing button No. 2 (search by hashtags), enter in the search query (1) “gymnastics” or something similar at the top and a list of hashtags appears below (2). You just need to open one of the hashtags found and you will see all the photos and videos related to this group.

Through the button number 4, you can search for publications by location. To do this, also enter a search query, for example, "Gorky Park" and a list of results will appear.

By selecting one of the results, a list of publications will appear with a map showing the location of the shooting.

Sending private messages and photos and videos to certain users (in person)

You probably want to send some of your publications not to the public at once for all subscribers, but personally to one person or several. Or you can just send them a text message.

To do this, Instagram uses the Direct section.

While on the main page (1) of Instagram, click the button in the upper right corner (2).

To send a message or post to someone, click the + button (1) and in the window that opens (2) select what exactly you want to send.

Next, choose from your subscribers and those to whom you yourself are subscribed, to whom exactly you want to send a message or publication (1). You can select several people at once by ticking them. If you chose to send a message, then write it in the line below (2). If you chose to send a photo or video, you will be prompted to select them.

To send a message, start writing it and the hearts (3) will change to a checkmark, which is the send button.

It is possible to send a photo or video in person even at the posting stage, i.e. when you took a video or photo, applied effects and proceeded to the last step before publishing. To do this, go to the "Direct" tab (1), select who you want to send the publication to (2) and click "Send" (3).

Tracking new posts from those you follow

You can follow new photos and videos posted by people you follow. To do this, use the Home tab. There, in the form of a feed, all the publications of those people you are subscribed to, as well as your own, will be displayed.

You can also see who your friends (those you follow), which photos they liked, and who followed you. This can be done in the "Actions" section (1) by going to the "Subscriptions" tab (2).

And finally, if you want to see all the photos and videos that were published by this or that user on Instagram, to whom you are subscribed or who is following you, then just go to his personal page by clicking on his avatar and you can see all the publications there .
