Smartphone Sony Xperia Tipo: features and reviews. Sony Xperia tipo dual - Specifications Sony xperia st 21

Currently, mobile devices are produced in most cases with two SIM cards. This solution allowed users not only to give up the second phone, but also significantly save on the cost of communication services. There are situations when you need to make a call to a subscriber who uses another mobile operator. Naturally, this has been a problem in the past. However, with the advent of the Dual models, everything has changed for the better.

It will no longer be possible to surprise buyers with such devices, since the market is simply full of them. Many people pay attention not only to the number of slots for sim cards, but also to other criteria. An important role is played by performance, design, battery life and other characteristics.

In this article, the reader will be able to get acquainted in detail with such a device as the Sony Xperia Tipo smartphone. Although this model went on sale four years ago, it is still of interest to a certain category of users.

So, let's start reviewing the debut model of the Sony ST21i2 Xperia line. We would like to draw the readers' attention to the fact that the information presented in the article is also relevant for the Sony ST21i. The differences between them are only in the number of slots for sim-cards.

Release of a new model

In 2012, Sony decided to open up a new segment of dual SIM mobile devices. It is surprising that its activities have always been successful and active, but for some reason, for a long time, developers ignored the introduction of new technologies. But it was no longer possible to delay further, as competitors supplied innovative smartphones to the market in full. The company made its debut with the budget model Sony Xperia Dual Tipo. How successful this decision was, we will understand in this article.

In fairness, it is worth noting that the novelty has created a kind of hype. Since its release, the model has become a popular review topic. They focused on a large number of advantages.

Success came almost immediately after the start of sales. The indisputable advantages of the model were low price, well-chosen materials, build quality and, of course, the highest quality matrices for cameras, which at that time had no analogues on the market.

Design

The Sony Xperia Tipo phone is small in size. Almost all of it fits in the palm of your hand. Externally, the case looks pretty soundly. It is made of plastic coated with paint. However, from afar, it can easily be confused with metal.

As soon as the buyer takes the device in hand, the flaws are revealed. The first thing that becomes noticeable is the thickness. It is 13 mm, while the length and width of the case are only 103 and 57 mm, respectively. Because of this, the device can be safely called thick, since thin ones include those in which the indicator does not exceed 8-9 mm. And if you also take into account the fashion for tight trousers, then this can become a big problem.

Concerning ease of use, users have a lot of controversy. Most argue that due to the beveled corners and the rather slippery surface of the case, the phone constantly “strives to jump out” of the hand, and this drawback manifests itself both during a call and when scrolling. But there is also such a category of owners for whom weight and massiveness have become advantages. It is impossible to draw unambiguous conclusions on the level of convenience, since there is a factor of individuality here.

Smartphone Sony Xperia Tipo for the domestic buyer was supplied in two colors - black and silver. Due to the compact size, the manufacturer had to place the SIM and memory card slots directly under the battery. Although this is a weightless drawback, it can still cause inconvenience to the user.

The front panel has a standard set of elements. This is a conversational speaker, capacitive screen, touch control buttons, proximity sensor. The brand name flaunts at the top, and a logo at the bottom, indicating belonging to the Xperia line.

There is also nothing original on the back cover. Like other models, the camera lens is removed. It is slightly off center to the left. At the bottom there is a white-green corporate logo, the name of the line and the output speaker are duplicated. The microUSB port is located on the left side face, on the opposite side there is a rocker-shaped volume control key, a hole for a cord and a button for working with SIM cards. The microphone is brought to the bottom end, and the headphone jack - to the top. Next to it is an on/off button.

Sony Xperia Tipo specifications

Before delving into the description of the Tipo smartphone, let's look at the main characteristics.

  • The body is a monoblock.
  • Type - smartphone with touchscreen.
  • Networking - WCDMA/HSPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE.
  • The radio module is one.
  • The platform at the time of release is Android version 4.0.
  • Processor model - Qualcomm MSM7225AA.
  • Memory: built-in - 4 GB, operational - 512 MB.
  • Memory card - up to 32 GB, type - microSD.
  • The display diagonal is 3.2ʺ.
  • Screen resolution - 480×320 px.
  • GPU - Adreno 200.
  • Data transfer - microUSB 2.0, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
  • Rechargeable battery - 1500 mAh.
  • Camera matrix - 3.2 MP.
  • Video recording - VGA.

Screen

What image will please the buyer of Sony Xperia Tipo Dual? The characteristics of the display can hardly be called impressive. The screen diagonal is small - only 3.2ʺ. However, this is to be expected, since the model has a fairly compact size. The resolution is critically low by modern standards, it is 480×320 px. The number of pixels per inch is 180 ppi. The image is grainy, even "cubes" are visible.

The device is equipped with a TFT-matrix. The display is capable of displaying 262,000 colors. A significant advantage of the device was the multi-touch technology for two simultaneous touches. It is also worth noting the presence of acrylic glass, which performs a protective function. According to the manufacturer, neither chips nor scratches are terrible for him.

The screen is quite typical for representatives of the line of the budget segment. No big expectations should be placed on him. The image will not differ much from push-button phone models.

CPU

What performance can a Sony Xperia Tipo owner expect? Unfortunately, in this matter, as well as with the display, one should not expect high performance. The Qualcomm MSM7225AA processor is rather weak. Its work is provided by a single core with a clock frequency of 800 MHz. This characteristic makes it clear that the Tipo model is a typical "state employee". The main functions work quickly, bugs are not noticed by the user. However, there are significant limitations in functionality - the device is not able to cope with resource-intensive applications. For example, when you start a mid-level game, freezes begin, and using several at once is out of the question. Such tasks Sony Xperia Tipo is beyond the power.

Offline work

An important indicator of a mobile device is the battery life. It is difficult to call the Xperia Tipo a long-lived model. Unfortunately, the battery is also not one of the strengths of the device. Its capacity is only 1500 mAh. By modern standards, this figure seems simply ridiculous. However, for battery life, a weak processor and screen have become advantages. Due to the fact that they do not use large resources, the device can work for about 2-3 days with an average load.

What numbers does the manufacturer indicate? In standby mode, the battery will only run out after 15 days. Those who like to talk on the phone for a long time need to be prepared for the fact that they will have to charge it once every 5 hours with a continuous conversation. As a music player, the device can work up to 35 hours, and in video mode - up to 8 hours.

Camera

The manufacturer, when releasing the Sony Xperia Tipo model, did not focus on the camera. The device is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel matrix. There is no autofocus and no flash, so you can't count on high-quality pictures. In the photo, the text is almost unreadable, the balance of colors and clarity of the image also leaves much to be desired.

What would such a camera be good for? Users claim that the quality of the pictures is only suitable for installation in the phone book of the subscriber. An acceptable photo is obtained if it is taken in fairly good lighting and at close range. Another disadvantage is the lack of a front camera, so making video calls will be extremely inconvenient using the rear one.

Memory

An important performance criterion is the amount of RAM. Considering that the weak processor was used in the model, one cannot count on a high indicator of this characteristic. "RAM" is only 512 MB. This is quite enough to work with simple applications offered by Android, but complex tasks are beyond the power of the device.

The manufacturer in the instructions states that the amount of built-in memory is 4 GB. However, not all of them are available to the user. The operating system files are already occupied by about half. Of course, this significantly reduces the possibilities, but do not get upset ahead of time. The developers have provided a slot for a memory card. The maximum amount of removable media should not exceed 32 GB.

Sony Xperia Tipo reviews

So what do buyers think of the device? Those lucky ones who bought a smartphone immediately after its release paid about 6 thousand rubles for it. There are many laudatory reviews on the network, indicating an ideal value for money. Of course, at present, the characteristics of this model are already far behind modern requirements, but users call this device a hardy “workhorse”.

You always want everything and more. More convenient tariffs, so that they are suitable for calling everyone around, and for raiding the web space. More programs for editing photos of all of your districts. More memory for listening to fresh hits under the porch. It is with such needs that when it comes to finding a crisp dual-SIM touchscreen smartphone, Sony does not leave its options without options.

Outfit

The appearance of the phone causes dual impressions. It seems to be neat and no frills, but somehow boring. A small, rather thick candy bar with rounded corners already looks quite boring, especially in the black version. The only thing that makes a difference is a slightly curved silver border, which can be found in Sony's Go or Miro models. But it would be foolish to expect a riot of fantasy in terms of design in the most budget model in the line, so there are no special complaints.

Most of the front panel is occupied by a tiny 3.2-inch screen by the standards of today's smartphones. The specifications indicate that the TFT matrix is covered with non-scratch glass, but I have doubts about this. It looks like plastic and when pressed harder, it is squeezed, leaving savory streaks on the screen. The screen itself has a normal for its diagonal, but small for today resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. For lovers of pipias, this value is 180. It is quite difficult to see anything in the sun. At the same time, the display can only recognize two fingers of the owner. Above it is the Sony logo, a neat speaker slot and a barely noticeable proximity sensor. Below are three standard touch buttons for calling the submenu, back and home screen.

The rest of the case is the back cover. It also covers the side faces, without forcing the owner to think about adhesive tape and coupons to eliminate backlash and creaking. In the black version, which was tested, the lid is made of soft touch plastic, the silver version cannot boast of such.

On the back there is a camera eye, a speaker and a green logo inherited from Sony Ericsson. On the left side, the Micro USB connector is missing. But on the right, the user will find, in addition to the volume rocker, also a button for switching sim cards. Just below there is another hole. If you remove the back cover, it becomes clear that this is a loop for laces, key rings and other jewelry.

The top of the device is also standard. Here is located on the old school (before the "era of the fifth") headphone jack and power button. Sony saved on many things, including the amount of plastic. I see no other reason why the most used mechanical key is so recessed.

The dimensions of the device are ideal for its category - 103 x 57 x 13 mm. Now this thickness may seem large, but due to the overall smallness of the smartphone, it is just good for confident grasping the phone. The baby weighs 99 grams.

Filling

The Tipo kid is powered by a single-core Qualcomm MSM7225AA processor with a frequency of 800 MHz and an Adreno 200 graphics core. It has 512 MB of RAM. Pretty standard bunch for the ultra low end segment. Due to the small screen resolution, an inexperienced user (and this is the target audience of this model) will not experience any problems in performance. Of course, if you install software in batches, and 2.5 gigabytes of internal memory allow you to do this, then the device will start to think hard. And so, the Antutu synthetic test showed a result of 2855 points, which is very good.

For data transfer, the phone can use Wi-Fi b/g/n module, Bluetooth version 2.1, 3G module and GPS. Removing the cover, you can see the 1500 mAh battery, from which the smartphone can work for a day and a half with two hours of calls, two hours of music and moderate Internet surfing. And here the small screen gives its pluses.

The camera is the weakest point in the phone. A 3-megapixel module without flash and autofocus is not capable of producing sane pictures even in good lighting. Video recording in the same vein, with VGA resolution.

A pleasant moment for many will be the FM receiver. Works as usual, only with connected headphones.

Like ice cream

One of the main advantages Xperia Tipo Dual can be called Android version 4.0. This is one of the few dual-card smartphones on a recent operating system. This gives an additional smoothness of the interface, and the ability to install more software, and, of course, just moral satisfaction. And everything would be fine, but Sony installed their shell on top of the standard Holo interface. Everyone understands that for the manufacturer this is an opportunity to distinguish their device from competitors, but it is Xperia UI that slightly spoils the impression of the fourth Android. The fact is that remnants of the past are creeping in from everywhere, namely interface elements from Android 2.3, and it looks ugly.

In general, this is the same interface that was on the company's devices in early 2011. There are five home screens. More or less cannot be done. On desktops, you can create folders that can be sent to the bottom panel. There is a standard feature for Sony with picking up all the widgets with a pinch on the display. What is the use of this, remains a mystery to me. The main menu scrolls horizontally, you can't create folders in it, applications can only be sorted or moved. The widget menu is called (as in older versions of the OS) by long pressing on the desktop. It is worth saying that the widget selection window itself has been redesigned, and they scroll through the carousel, with a preview of what exactly you will see on the screen.

The keyboard here is also not standard, but the Xperia keyboard. It looks like a copy of the iOS keyboard. The nice thing is that typing on it, even with a small physical screen size, is surprisingly convenient.

Cards, seeds, two slots

The Xperia Tipo Dual boasts two SIM card slots. And in this regard, he is not at all “like a dual”, but directly “I answer, dual!”. Although there is only one radio module in it, it performs its functions well. Two network indicators are immediately visible in the status bar, the active one is highlighted in color. Sony did not fool people's heads and made it so that the side key for switching cards switches them, and does not call up the settings menu. Speaking about the settings, it is worth noting that they are not rich, but they have everything you need. Even profiles showing when which SIM is active on weekdays and weekends. Plus, the manufacturer has added a couple of widgets for viewing the status of sims. Testing showed that the smartphone restores connection on the second card 5-7 seconds after the conversation on the first one is completed, and this is a good result.

Both cards are located near the battery. The upper one is pulled out just like that, the lower one must be hooked with a special guide. Hot-swapping without removing the battery is not possible.

Results

The first impression was that Sony just played a number and released a dual-card smartphone just to be represented in this niche. Judge for yourself - a small screen, on which it is simply inconvenient to read anything more serious than SMS, "like" a camera and an amateur design. Despite this, with every day of use, I realized that such a smartphone had to come out. The size of the screen is dictated by the size of the case itself, the design is not perceived with hostility over time, and the camera cannot break records here. And all because Tipo Dual is a state employee. But at the same time, Sony made a high-quality case, which is worth its weight in gold in such phones. At the same time, one of the latest versions of the OS is installed in it, and in general it performs its phone functions efficiently. All these nuances will help the Tipo baby find its buyer.

The last few years have gained particular popularity in the mobile device market. This is logical, because one device can serve with two SIM cards at once, which makes its use very convenient and practical. Let's say you don't need to carry a second device with you or constantly ask friends to call another operator's number. And you don’t need to overpay for Internet connection services either, because one phone embodies the functionality of two devices at once.

You will not be able to guess which model will be considered in our today's article, since there are a large number of such devices. Therefore, we give the answer: this is the Tipo mobile phone, which embodies multitasking, performance, design and affordable price. Read more about it in this article.

general information

So, the device was put on sale in 2012. It was then that it immediately became the object of everyone's attention - the new Sony Xperia Tipo was repeatedly described in various reviews that carefully advertised the device, focusing users on the mass of advantages available to them.

Then there were not so many devices with two SIM cards, so the Tipo model gained popularity quickly enough. The advantage of the device was a relatively low price and a set of advantages such as high-quality assembly or well-chosen materials. And don't forget about the company that supplies the best camera sensors on the market; it is necessary to study its proposals and take a closer look at them. What we did in the process of writing the article.

Thus, let's start with the appearance of the smartphone - we will describe the body, design and appearance of the device, that is, how it is seen for the first time.

Body and appearance

The Sony Xperia Tipo phone itself has relatively small, one might even say compact dimensions - it fits completely in the palm of your hand. Such a handy little "dialer".

As for the case materials, from the side it seems: it is metal (the device looks solid). However, upon closer examination, one can guess that this is just painted plastic. As soon as the gadget falls into the hands - it becomes obvious. Also, first of all, you notice another sign of the device - its thickness. As stated in the technical specifications, it is about 13 millimeters! Imagine how uncomfortable the Sony Xperia Tipo is in the pocket of tight pants or jeans!

Regarding how the smartphone lies in the hand, you can also have a lot of controversy. In the reviews, some users are outraged that the device tends to slip out of their hands during a conversation due to its rectangular shape with rounded corners. Another version is that working with a smartphone, on the contrary, is very convenient due to its weight and massiveness. It is useless to argue about this, because for each user, how convenient the design of the device is, is a purely individual thing. We recommend that if you suddenly want to purchase this outdated (today's) model, first hold it in your hands.

Due to the compact size of the case in the Sony Xperia Tipo, access to the memory card and SIM cards is a little difficult. As the owners of the device testify in the reviews, it is necessary to remove the battery, only after which access to the “inner world” of the smartphone will open. SIM cards are located in two tiers, so there may also be problems with their removal - it will not be possible to do this on the go.

Navigation

After what our Tipo looks like, I would like to describe also its navigation tools, in particular, a row of physical keys located under the screen. They are still present on many smartphones today, since there is a convenient enough place to find them. We are talking about the buttons "Home", "Back" and "Properties". Users complain that the backlight of this row only works for a short time when pressed - it is impossible to set them to glow constantly.

In addition to these, there are also keys for adjusting the sound, switching SIM cards, and unlocking the screen. The latter is located on the left side of the device on the top, and the two previous ones - on the right edge. If everything is clear with the unlock button and the sound rocker, then with regard to the switch button, it is worth noting that this is a key that allows you to choose between cards (which one will be active for an outgoing call). Implemented, however, quite convenient.

Screen

From the body and buttons, we smoothly move on to the main control element of the smartphone - its display. The Sony Xperia Tipo has a 3.2-inch screen. Its parameters, of course, leave much to be desired - this is a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels (as in the good old keyboard smartphones), TFT technology and a large thick frame around the glass. Although multi-touch is already supported here, so the buyer already has advanced device control options.

With such characteristics, of course, one should not expect the clearest and most colorful picture - even in 2012, mid-range devices had better screens than the smartphone we are describing. One word - budget...

Despite this, the technical parameters indicate the presence of a protective coating for the display. If you believe this information, then with the help of it the smartphone screen is protected from scratches and chips.

CPU

By analogy with the screen, it is not worth waiting for the processor installed on the Sony Xperia Tipo smartphone to show miracles of performance. This is a relatively modest Qualcomm MSM7225A clocked at (according to official data sheets) 800 MHz. The device runs on a single core and loading it, as you understand, is not difficult. The Adreno 200 accelerator copes with the graphics - the "stuffing" matches the class of the phone.

Yes, this device will “pull” the Android operating system, but it’s not necessary to talk about the simultaneous launch of several games of an average level of visualization - here you can play something simpler. Yes, and 512 megabytes of RAM indicates this.

Battery

Hardy device, based on the capacity of its battery, is also difficult to call. The phone has a battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh. For a more "fancy" device, of course, this would be enough for a day of work. But considering that our phone has the simplest screen and the minimum processor performance, as reviews show, it can easily last up to two days on a single charge.

Basic actions like turning off mobile Internet, reducing screen brightness, sound volume, and the like can help. Again, this confirms the orientation of the phone to calls, and not to the multimedia component. Although with a durable battery, you can watch movies and listen to music for a long time on the road.

Connection

Despite the fact that we are talking about the characteristics describing the Sony Xperia Tipo, they indicate the presence of Bluetooth communication support, Wi-Fi connectivity, and the ability to work with 3G mobile Internet. There is even GPS here, which indicates the versatility of the device, its wide profile of work.

All these services can be disabled when not needed and thus increase the phone's operating time (as we wrote about above).

Camera

The device has only one camera (rear). True, you cannot rely on it - it has a resolution of 3.2 megapixels (obviously a technologically backward solution) without flash and autofocus. It is not difficult to guess that it is even difficult to make out the printed text on the images received using the phone. We're not talking about color balance, long distance clarity, and so on.

The developers of the Sony Xperia Tipo (the specifications confirm this) made it clear that this device is not suitable for photo lovers. The maximum that such a camera is suitable for is to take pictures “on the go”, to photograph some of the simplest objects in maximum lighting. Well, it’s clear that a phone with two SIM cards is for calls!

Memory

With the amount of internal memory on this device, everything is "really bad." Initially, the phone has 2.9 GB of total memory, of which the user can use only 2.2 GB, since the rest is for system files.

As already mentioned, under the back cover of the device is a slot for a memory card. Due to it, the user can expand it up to 32 GB. A useful feature for fans of serials, for example.

Also, given the support for 3D games on this smartphone, you can download several entertainment applications to it and thus turn it into a gaming center. There are a lot of variations - and with 32 GB of memory, all of them can become a reality.

Other options

To be honest, the Sony Xperia Tipo (reviews confirm this) does not even have any additional features that should be mentioned. The phone has a solid appearance that does not correspond to its real "stuffing". Therefore, there is no need to talk about any additions.

At the software level, there is a good base here - voice search, multimedia player, standard browser, Gmail mail client, Google maps and a number of other programs needed for work. Plus, you can additionally download those that interest you in the Google Play application catalog. This allows you to turn a budget phone for 2 SIM cards into a real office smartphone designed for work.
