How to block a page on your computer. How to block VKontakte on a computer. Setting a block on the router

It may happen that you need to restrict access to a certain site. There can be many reasons: the desire to focus on a specific project, and not hang on some site, limit the child’s capabilities when exploring the World Wide Web, or something else. But how to implement this? How can it not open and no one can see its contents?

What does blocking sites on a computer mean?

Before answering the question so that it does not open, you need to answer one more question. Firstly, what is blocking? This is the inability to access a specific network resource while maintaining current operating conditions. When you try to access a blocked site, a message will be displayed stating that the resource is temporarily unavailable or blocked. Moreover, the first option is preferable for the reason that people do not understand that it is blocked, and do not start looking for an answer to the question of how to block sites on a computer and how to unblock them. In some cases, browsers offer standard options to overcome the problem, which, as you can understand, do not help. But viewing blocked sites will be impossible if you use standard instructions.

Differences in scale

It's one thing to restrict access to sites on one computer. And a completely different level of complexity - restrictions in the entire network. So, for the first option, the optimal action is to configure it on the computer itself. But in the second, you can either bypass all computers one by one, or set a restriction on the access point (router, server). Of course, the second option is more preferable in terms of time costs. But if it requires some employees to be able to freely visit all sites, then it will not be suitable.

The easiest way

The simplest answer to the question of how to block sites on a computer is to edit the computer's firewall file. Activate the search for files on your computer and enter the word hosts in the search bar. The machine will show you a file on drive C - that’s what you need. Launch it. Most likely, you will think that the computer could not determine how to open this file. Then right-click on it and select “Open with”. In the presented list of programs, look for notepad and select it.

In the window that opens, go to the end of the file and enter: 127.0.0.1 address of the blocked site.

Save the file and close. The computer will not have access to blocked sites with such a file. A small note for the future: only a user with administrator rights can edit this file. And if you're worried about messing something up, you can make a copy of the file you're editing before making changes to regain access to blocked sites in the future.

Setting a block on the router

If there is only one computer, then the previous option will fully satisfy all requests. What if you use a router and can access various sites using tablets or smartphones? In such a case, there is a router blocking. Take the manual of your access point and look in it for information such as Internet address, username and password. Enter the found address in the browser line, then enter your login and password into the form that appears. Then the admin panel will become available to you.

Once in the admin panel, you should look for the option to block domains. In many routers, the way is this: go to “Settings” and look for “Filtering” or “Domain Blocking”. There should be an interface that allows everything except certain domains to be allowed. You should indicate where you cannot go, click on the apply button and reboot the router.

Blocking using browser extensions

If the subject for whom the blocking is being carried out uses Google Chrome or Firefox, then you can set a restriction in these browsers. To do this, you should go to the add-ons section and write something similar to Site block or “site blocking”. And you will be shown a wide range of add-ons that can block the sites you have chosen. This solution is a very good answer to the question of how to block sites on a computer, because few people think about checking their extensions. To prevent them from being edited or disabled by another user, extensions can be password protected. Despite the ease of installation, this method has one rather noticeable disadvantage - if you delete the browser (and then install it) or the extension itself (from the folder where it is located), then the protection is gone.

Possibility of bypassing blocking

But how can you access a blocked site, access to which was limited using the previously specified methods? There are quite a lot of opportunities to bypass the blocking. Some of them may not work in certain cases. Initially, you should remember about anonymizers - special sites that allow you to receive answers to the necessary requests. But in this case, requests do not come from the user’s IP address, but on behalf of the anonymizer. Let's say someone wondered how to block sites on a computer, and you want to confront him with dignity. The scheme looks like this: you send data to a specific site. It directs them to the network resource you want to visit. The answer comes to the anonymizer. And the information received is redirected to you. The disadvantage of this interaction is the lower speed of data exchange, but the main goal - gaining access - is fulfilled. This, of course, is not the answer to the question of how to unblock a blocked site, but you will still be able to access it.

You can also bypass blocking using special software. One of the most famous is Its principle of operation is similar to an anonymizer with the difference that data is transferred not between the user and some server, but exclusively between the users themselves, while they act as servers for other people. In an example, everything will look like this: users from country A are prohibited from visiting site B, users from country C are prohibited from visiting site D. Users forward requests to each other, and the program makes a request from the recipient, then returns the data to the person who is actually interested in it. But you should use Tor wisely - due to the architecture of the program, hacking it and sending someone a virus, a Trojan, or simply intercepting data such as a login and password for a site is not the most incredible event.

Here are the two most popular answers, chosen by millions, if not tens of millions of users, answering the question of how to access a blocked site.

White list of sites

But another blocking option is possible - creating a white list of sites. This option involves creating lists of addresses that you can visit. Receiving or sending data to all others will be prohibited. Choosing the right software for you is not difficult, and there are a great many programs that are distributed free of charge and still have the necessary functionality. Therefore, it’s still up to you to choose how to block sites on your computer.

Conclusion

The article examined various possibilities for blocking access to various virtual resources, not only how to block sites on a computer, but also how to unblock them. If you like something, you can use the option you like.

How to block a site in your browser

The Internet can be both good and bad for your child. On the one hand, it is a universal tool for entertainment and study. A lot of useful and interesting materials develop the baby, instill in him a love of reading and help him explore the world. On the other hand, on the Internet it is easy to stumble upon rudeness, drug propaganda and shocking materials that are harmful to the child’s psyche.

This raises the question - how to block unwanted sites in the browser so that the child avoids danger while sitting at the computer? The easiest way is to change the hosts file, which is located in the Windows system folder. By registering the localhost address (127.0.0.1) opposite the address of the unwanted site, you will block access to it as soon as you save the changes to this file.

I’ve been using your program for a long time, at first it was a trial version, then I bought the program and have no regrets! so thank you for this information product!

To find out how to block a website in the Google Chrome browser, you need to dig into its settings. When creating a new profile that a child will use, you need to mark it as “controlled”, and through further settings you can easily add unwanted sites to the blacklist, as well as track your visiting history.

An alternative to this is the free BlockSite extension in the Google store. The program menu provides a large selection of filters and settings, as well as a password system for locking so that the child cannot change them on his own. If you are looking for a way to block unwanted sites in other browsers, you are unlikely to find anything new. Opera has the ability to block unwanted content using settings, while Firefox only does so through add-ons like FoxFilter.

It is worth noting that blocking sites does not always bring the desired result. Often a child, acting on the principle “the forbidden fruit is sweet,” tries to bypass the filters. In some cases, this works out, and he gets access to all the unwanted content that the parents have highlighted with their prohibitions. Therefore, you should not think about how to block a site in your browser - this is not the most effective way to protect your child from danger.

I’ll show you how to close access to VKontakte on your computer. You can block access for your girlfriend or children so that they do not access VKontakte from the computer and waste time. This method will block access to the VKontakte site only on the computer.

We go to the etc folder, it is located at . Here are the files: hosts, Imhosts.sam, networks, protocol, services. We are interested in the hosts file; it lists all sites to which access to your computer is blocked, as well as all redirects. Fraudsters often register their phishing sites in this file, and when you access the sites, a fraudulent site opens to you.

Here is one example of such scams and phishing.

Here is another example of how scammers make money from paid SMS sent to them by victim users whose computers are blocked from the VKontakte site or are being redirected from a real site to a fraudulent one.

So, let's go back to the etc folder and the hosts file. Click on it with the right mouse button.

How do you want to open this file?

Scroll to the bottom of the list. Select notepad or any other text editor (notepad simply opens the fastest).

If you don’t have the Notepad application, then click “find another application on this computer.”

And open the Windows folder, which is located at C:\Windows. In this folder is the notepad application - this is a notepad, select it and click open (or double-click on it).

The opened hosts file in Notepad will show you all its contents.

By default the hosts file says:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
#space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

You may have some other sites written here if you are using unlicensed software that blocks key verification by prohibiting the computer from visiting license verification sites. For example, for Adobe products and others.

Now let's add a few empty lines at the very bottom:

127.0.0.1 vk.com
127.0.0.1 vkontakte.ru

The address 127.0.0.1 is your computer and what is written next is the address to which access to your computer will be denied.

Thus, we denied our computer access to VKontakte sites.

Now press the key combination Ctrl + S - this saves the document. And save the modified hosts file. In folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc on Windows 8 ( On Windows 7 it seems possible) nothing can be saved due to security reasons, so we save the modified hosts file in another location.

Now you need to enable the display of file extensions to remove the extension from the saved hosts.txt file and make it a file without an extension. Since the original hosts file is just a file without an extension.

How to enable display of file extensions:

  • On Windows 7: Click Tools > Folder Options > View and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
  • On Windows 8: Click on View > Show or Hide and check the box for “file name extensions”.

Now select the hosts.txt file and press F2 on it (this is editing).

And remove the .txt extension from its name

So that all that remains is just hosts.

Press Enter to complete editing. The system notifies us that after changing the extension, this file may no longer be accessible. Do you really want to change it?

Click Yes.

Ready. The hosts file now has no extension.

Now you need to move it to the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and replace the original hosts file with the one we changed. Right-click on the modified hosts file and select “cut”.

Go to the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc, then right-click on an empty space and select “Paste”.

We will be notified that there is already a “hosts” file in the destination folder. Click “Replace file in destination folder”.

Click continue.

And all the hosts file has been changed. Now, when you try to open the vk.com website on any browser, you will receive an error: Page not found, but you can do the following: view its saved copy.

Internet Explorer will say: This page cannot be displayed.

  • Make sure the web address is correct
  • Find the page using a search engine
  • Refresh the page in a few minutes

Fix connection problems.

In the Opera browser it will be written: Page unavailable. An attempt to connect Opera to vk.com was rejected. The site may be temporarily unavailable or your connection may not be configured correctly.

Check your internet connection. Check cable connections and restart all routers and other network devices.

Allow Opera to access the network through your firewall or antivirus settings. If the program is already on the allowed list, remove it from the list and add it again.

If you are using a proxy server...

Check your connection settings or contact your network administrator to ensure that the proxy server is functioning. If you don't need to use a proxy server. Go to Opera menu > Settings > Change proxy settings... > LAN settings and deselect “Use a proxy server for LAN”.

As you can see, all Internet browsers give only useless advice on solving this problem and lead in a completely different direction, and there is not a word anywhere that a ban can be written in the hosts file, although this problem has been around for decades. Is it really difficult to write, check whether the site is prohibited in the hosts file.

To block VKontakte on your Internet network, you need to go into the settings of your Wi-Fi router and block the VKontakte site in the router settings. I talked about this in the video about setting up a router.

So that it does not open, and what is this for? Since you have come to this page, it means you need it for something.

You can block a site on your computer in several ways, for example, using an antivirus or program, and to block a site in your browser, you will need to install a special plugin. I'll tell you about some of them a little later.

Why block access to sites?

There can be many reasons for blocking, and here are some of them:

1. A virus got onto your computer, and after that a website began to constantly open in your browser. But in order not to deal with this problem right now, you can temporarily block it.

People on the Internet ask the question: how to block the Parimatch website so that it does not load constantly? Parimatch has different domain zones, so it’s difficult to say which one is interfering with them. But, if he makes them so nervous, then he can also be blocked.

2. If your child spends a lot of time on social networks or plays his favorite games, then these sites can also be prohibited. The blocking can be permanent or temporary, for example, by day of the week and at a certain period of time.

How to block a website on your computer?

If Windows is installed on your computer, then you can set up blocking without additional programs, using the hosts file, which is located in this path C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\. Just copy this line, paste it into the search via the Start button, and then press Enter.

Now you need to add some settings to this file, but first move it to your desktop. Open the file in a text editor, Notepad for Windows will do.

We move the host file to the desktop, because it is unlikely to be edited in the “etc” folder.

Now in this file you need to write the following line: 127.0.0.1 site.ru. 127.0.0.1 is the local host, and site.ru is the address of the site that you want to block. For example, to block VKontakte, you need to insert the line 127.0.0.1 vk.com

If you need to block several resources, then you need to write several parameters in this file, each on a new line:

127.0.0.1 ok.ru - classmates
127.0.0.1 vk.com - VKontakte
127.0.0.1 facebook.com, etc.

Save the file and then move it back to the "etc" folder.

How to block a site in Yandex browser?

Special plugins will help us cope with this task, and one of them is Block Site.

As you can see, there are even two of them. The first one works like this: go to the site you want to block, and then click on the plugin icon. A window will appear where it will be written in English “Add site.ru to the blocked list”, i.e., Do you really want to blacklist this domain? Click “Yes.”, and that’s all, access to it will be closed “Restricted Access”.

How to block a website in Chrome?

For the Chrome browser, I found three plugins, two of them with the same name Block Site and one Block Site - Website Blocker for Chrome. You can install plugins through the online store using this link.

Block Site - Website Blocker for Chrome works the same way as Block Site for Yandex, which I wrote about above. Go to the site, click on the icon of this plugin, and then in the window that appears, click “Block this site”. That's it, he's now blacklisted. I don’t know which of these plugins is better, but the one I described works great.

Previously, this program was paid, but now it can be used freely within the home. You can download it from this link. There you need to fill out a form to receive a license key, which will be sent to the specified email.

After installation, you need to restart your computer, after which the program is completely ready to work, even without preliminary settings. But, if you want to add sites to block, click on the Blue Coat K9 Web Protection Admin shortcut.

The program will open in the browser and you will see three tabs:

1. View Internet activity;
2. Settings;
3. Get help

Click on the middle tab to go to settings. A window will appear where you need to enter the administrator password that we entered when installing the program.

Abortion;
Pornography;
Alcohol
Resources with malware and others.

If you try to access a site that belongs to one of these categories, it will most likely be blocked.

Below you can select the level of protection: moderate, minimal, all allowed, or selective.

But to understand all the settings, you will have to spend some time, especially since the program does not support the Russian language. Here you can add sites not only to the black list, but also those to which access will always be open, the so-called white list.

Note: 1. To remove the program from your computer, you will need to enter the administrator password. 2. If someone tries to stop the program from running, for example using Process Hacker, then after a few seconds it will automatically start again.

How to block a website using a wi-fi router

Using the TP-LINK router as an example, I will tell you how you can block access to the sites you want.

Type tplinklogin.net, or 192.168.1.1, into the address bar of your browser. or 192.168.0.1., and then log in by entering the word “admin” without quotes in the “login” and “password” fields.

If you want to block sites on your child’s computer or phone, then first of all you need to find out the MAC Address of his device. Select DHCP in the left column and then DHCP Client List. A page will open with a list of devices connected to the router.

Here you can see that the first two devices are mobile phones, and the third is a PC. Copy the desired MAC address, and go to the “Access Control” tab -> “Rule” and click “Setup Wizard”

Let's move on to the next settings. Here you need to select the blocking method: by IP or MAC address. Since the IP can change, it is better to use the MAC address.

We select MAC Adress in the “Mode” field, write a unique description in the “Host Description”, and insert the address of the device that we previously copied into the “MAC Address” field. Click “Next” and move on to the next settings.

Here you need to set a goal, i.e., what exactly we will block. Since we are going to block sites, we select the “Domain Name” mode in the “Mode” field.

It is not necessary to write the entire address, but you can simply indicate a few letters of the domain, for example vk, or google. These are the resources that will be blocked.

Click “Next” and set a unique name in the “Rule Name” field. Click the “Finish” button.

Let's move on to the next window. Here you need to check the box: Deny the packets specified by any..., that is, deny access to the specified domains. You also need to make sure that the “Enable Internet Access Control” checkbox is checked.

Good afternoon friends. Today we will continue the conversation about protecting our children from the harmful influences of the global network. I have already mentioned in my articles several programs for these purposes. For example, Time Sheriff blocks the computer from turning on for a certain time. For example, for the time from 9 to 14, i.e. at a time when your children should be at school and studying, and not skipping or playing on the computer.

We also looked at the Mipko personal monitor program, which gives us the opportunity to track what exactly our child was doing on the computer. What sites did you visit and who did you communicate with?

Also, the program and Toddler Keys. In general, I’ll tell you, there are quite a lot of similar blocking programs. You can't tell about everyone. Therefore, today we will simply look at how to block using the system method, that is, using the operating system. After all, I think it’s no secret to you that a large number of programs slow down your computer.

How to block a website so that it does not open in the browser

Any site can be blocked. Or redirect from one resource to another. For example, your son wants to go to VKontakte, but he is sent to a site that teaches various sections of mathematics (this method is often used by advertising viruses).

We will block various resources using the Hosts system file. Hosts – is a Windows OS file and is designed to match the names of host names (domains, servers, nodes) with their IP data.

I think it sounds vague to inexperienced users. But, in fact, everything is quite simple. To put it another way, Hosts is an excellent method for blocking unnecessary or harmful resources.

The principle of connecting a browser to sites

We use browsers to connect to the site. But most of you, friends, have no idea how they do this and what role the Hosts file plays in this?

In order to access a specific resource, we enter the email address of this resource in browsers. For example, in order to access VKontakte, we enter vk.com and successfully go to this resource. To a person, such an entrance seems quite simple. But what is really happening at this moment?

When you entered vk.com in the address bar, you asked to be connected to this resource. But it's not that simple. The browser does not understand this language and is not able to send you to this resource. He just doesn't know him.

For browsers there is only a language of numbers, machine language. For example, 93.101.180.300, such sets of numbers are called IP addresses. IP addresses are the real names of sites.

You entered vk.com into the address bar, after which the browser needs to find out the digital address of the resource. To find out such a machine address, the browser accesses a special directory, the DNS server. There are quite a lot of similar DNS servers. And how soon the browser recognizes the resource address in one of these servers directly depends on how soon you will enter this site.

I think it's clearer to you now. They entered the name of the resource, the browser found out the exact name from the DNS server and then connected to the required resource. But what role does the Hosts file play in this? Let's find out now.
