Advantages: Large display, win10 on board, and all this for 25 kilo rubles. Not bad.

Disadvantages: A huge number of pre-installed applications from Asus, far from a new or powerful processor. Sometimes it slows down. During operation, the keys crackle strangely and rattle when typing, although on the whole it does not play and is assembled very decently.

This is an entry-level processor, so it is unlikely to provide adequate performance to keep the laptop ahead of the competition. Design

At the first glance at the laptop, the black color is immediately striking. Surely it would have looked dull, if not for the texture pattern, which noticeably enlivens the upper part of the case and the work surface and makes them less easily soiled. Of the details that adorn the lid, you can see only the ASUS logo, the second one is the same on the display frame. There are no other decorative elements.

The design of ASUS X751MD is made of plastic with a matte finish. It is relatively stiff and only slightly squeezes in the area of the lid. In this case, the gaps are imperceptible and the backlash of the parts too. So overall the build is very good. As for the bottom, unfortunately, there is no compartment here to get to the internal components, this will noticeably complicate an independent upgrade, especially since the bottom panel cover is securely fixed with a dozen screws. By the way, you can see a very small ventilation hole on it.

The dimensions of a laptop at 415x272x30 mm are small for a 17.3-inch device. True, such a laptop is rarely seen on trips, rather, it is a good stationary option. And the point here is not only in size, but also partly in weight, which is 2.8 kg.

Display, sound, webcam

ASUS X751MD is equipped with a glossy display with a diagonal of 17.3 inches and a resolution of 1600x900 pixels. I must say that the matrix installed in the laptop has a good margin of brightness and contrast, but its visibility is noticeably inferior to IPS. In particular, shallow vertical viewing angles will cause the image to change even if it deviates slightly from the right angle. But there will be no problems with the font and screen size, which is optimal for watching movies or comfortable work with multiple application windows.

The display frame traditionally houses the lens of the built-in 0.3 megapixel webcam. This is not the largest resolution, however, it is enough for a user to chat on Skype with friends or colleagues.

The acoustics of the laptop are represented by two speakers, and the proprietary ASUS SonicMaster technology is also used here. The laptop sounds fine, although it lacks low frequencies. At maximum volume, which is really enough, there is no distortion. If you plug in headphones, you can more comfortably watch a movie or enjoy music.

Keyboard and touchpad

Unsurprisingly, the 17-inch device has a full-size keyboard. There is enough room for the main and digital blocks, there is still quite a lot of space on both sides. The keyboard is built on an island principle, accordingly, the optimal distance between the buttons is observed, so that you do not accidentally press the adjacent ones. I am glad that there are no too compressed keys, even the arrows are convenient to use. The only thing is that there is no difference in color between the main and function buttons, it would be much more comfortable. Due to the budget model, the keyboard backlight is not provided.

The touchpad in the ASUS X751MD is no less ergonomic. Firstly, it is relatively large, has a buttonless surface that responds well to touch. Secondly, support for scrolling and zooming gestures will make working with the touchpad more productive. Let's add that the area of the right and left mouse buttons on the touchpad is separated by vertical markings. Pressing hard, mostly closer to the corners.

Performance

ASUS X751MD 90NB0601-M01000 is preinstalled with the modern operating system Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit. The laptop has a quad-core processor Intel Pentium N3530 (Bay Trail-M) with a frequency of 2.16 GHz and a cache of the second level in the amount of 2 MB. Despite the sufficient number of processing cores, this CPU cannot be called high-performance. He will be able to handle office tasks, video playback, of course, web surfing. By the way, the processor does not support multithreading technology, but it has a reduced power consumption of 7.5 W. With Turbo Boost, the clock speed of the Pentium N3530 can be increased to 2.6 GHz. Depending on the configuration, the laptop can be equipped with a quad-core or dual-core processor of the Celeron family: N2930 or N2830, respectively.

The processor works in tandem with the integrated graphics card Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail)... It supports DirectX 11, has only four execution units and is a relatively slow solution in terms of processing graphics tasks. If we talk about games, then they can only run at low settings, so this integrated accelerator is not at all the option to master modern toys. By the way, in addition to Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail), there is a 64-bit discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 820M (Fermi)... It also supports DirectX 11 and has 1GB of native DDR3 memory. Unfortunately, the specified graphics are only slightly better than the built-in ones in terms of gaming performance, so the owner of the ASUS X751MD should not count on modern games that will run at medium or high settings.

The filling of the laptop uses 4 GB of DDR3 RAM with a bus frequency of 1600 MHz. Half of it is soldered on the motherboard, and 2 GB is in the slot. The maximum that the manufacturer offers is the installation of 8 GB of RAM, for the near future this is more than enough. As for the SATA hard drive, it will allow you to store many files, programs, documents. The 1 TB provided for this is more than enough. Of course, the hard drive is not the fastest in this case, it runs at 5400 rpm.

Ports and communications

Interestingly, all the main interfaces of ASUS X751MD are on the left. As a result, there is an RJ-45 network connector, two video outputs VGA and HDMI, as well as several USB, of which a pair of standard 2.0 and one 3.0. In addition, there is a Kensington lock slot, as well as a combined audio jack provided for connecting a microphone and headphones.

The right end looks empty at all, because it only has a built-in Double Layer DVD ± RW SuperMulti optical drive and a charging slot.

The keyboard and touchpad are incredibly comfortable. The display is quite large, and you can comfortably watch videos, work and even play on it. As for performance, the Intel Pentium N3530 processor and a couple of video cards, bypassing too complex tasks, will confidently cope with simpler ones both in the office and outside. By the way, if you plan to frequently connect mobile devices, then ASUS X751MD has several USB 2.0 and 3.0 standards, as well as other connectors. When the need arises to create a rich multimedia collection, then the provided terabyte hard drive will be in the works.

In reality, you only have to put up with the large dimensions typical of a 17-inch model, small autonomy and low resolution of the webcam. However, with the cost of the considered configuration of about $ 440, such a laptop is unlikely to be unattainable, it may even compete with such inexpensive devices. For those who are busy with office work or often spend their free time at a laptop, buying an ASUS X751MD is more than appropriate.

Thus, we are choosing a processor of the level of Intel Core i3 and not the most powerful discrete graphics card like the NVIDIA GT 920M or GT 940M.

As important factors that you should pay attention to, you can note a good sound, as well as a display that will produce the most juicy picture and have good viewing angles. Factors such as a sophisticated cooling system, battery life, a touch screen, the presence of an SSD drive and the like can be safely ignored, because they will clearly not be particularly in demand within our concept.

This is what I would expect to see in an ultrabook or convertible laptop, but not in a large home computer. Her wire is long, it will reach where you need it without problems. As is customary today, the battery is already installed in the laptop and is located under the bottom cover of the case, so you can't just remove it.

Since our initial budget is set at 40,000 rubles, and after buying a laptop, there is still about 3,000 rubles left, you can get some accessories. First of all, I would recommend purchasing a comfortable mouse, you can wireless, of course, with a rug, fortunately, the choice in NOTIK is large. ASUS X751LJ has a design familiar to entry-level and mid-range notebooks from this Taiwanese manufacturer. We have seen such cases more than once: a solidly assembled black plastic case with a slight sheen without any conspicuous elements except for the shiny manufacturer's logo. The top cover is grooved for practicality, although fingerprints are still noticeable. On the rough bottom we find four large rubber feet and a small grill of the cooling system.

A rather wide plastic frame is installed around the display. There is no rest under the finger on it, but thanks to the shape of the edges, it is not difficult to open the laptop with one hand, the hinges are moderately soft. There is also a simple built-in 1-megapixel webcam for communicating over the Internet. Also, the bezel of the screen panel is equipped with rubber inserts for fixing in the closed state.

The work surface is made of the same corrugated plastic as the laptop lid. It is solid and flat, except for a slightly recessed keyboard unit. The keyboard of the ASUS X751LJ is island-type, with a dedicated numeric block. We have already seen a similar one in the ASUS K and ASUS X series. The keys are large enough, with a light, slightly "rattling" stroke. This is clearly not a premium segment, but it will do for daily work.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the laptop lacks stars from the sky, but it is not required of it. The "heart" of the configuration is a low-voltage dual-core Intel Core i3-5010U processor from the Broadwell generation, working in conjunction with an entry-level NVIDIA GeForce 920M discrete graphics card. The configuration is not gaming or professional, this is the basic option for surfing the Internet, watching movies and TV series, as well as working with office programs. Although, of course, you can play some very simple games. In the process of testing the keyboard, I spent several tens of minutes with the Super Nintendo emulator, not without pleasure. As for the working potential of a laptop, everything is clear here too - this model can be completely comfortably placed in the office as a working computer for a secretary or manager, and a large screen and practicality of the case will be clear advantages. Rounding out the big picture is a modest 4 GB of RAM, as well as a 500 GB hard drive, which is quite enough for storing a large number of video files, if you are not fond of heavy 30 GB blur versions, of course.

Sound

Sound is extremely important for multimedia, so I took this issue very seriously. The SonicMaster technology, traditionally used in ASUS laptops, will provide the expectedly good sound: a large headroom, good bass, and loudness and volume of sound completely satisfied me when watching a movie, but I had to tinker a bit with the equalizer, creating an optimal preset of settings. In general, in terms of sound, ASUS X751LJ can be considered a notebook above average.

Screen

Display and picture quality are the cornerstones for the tasks you need. This laptop is equipped with a 17-inch matrix with a glossy coating and a resolution of 1600x900 pixels. I had to limit myself to this, because the options with Full HD came out significantly more expensive, unfortunately. Since such a laptop will be used primarily at home, the glare that the glossy display gives you can not be afraid. This aspect is rather a plus - the colors look deeper and richer. In general, the image does not produce a "wow-effect", but I did not find any serious imperfections in the image either, everything is "on the level".
