Gaming laptop up to 100,000. Laptop for working with video. ⇡ Storage devices

I hope the recommendations given in the first part of the article will help you decide what components you want to see in your gaming laptop. The second part highlights the optimal and current, in my opinion, laptop models, sorted by price. For greater convenience, the tables indicate only the main characteristics of devices and costs (average prices for Yandex.Market are shown, region - Moscow).

The following companies that produce gaming laptops are represented on the Russian market: ASUS, Acer, Dell (aka Alienware), HP, Lenovo and MSI. As a rule, each company has several series of products based on a specific platform. The final price of a laptop is determined not only by the central processor and graphics, but also by the amount of RAM, as well as the presence of an SSD and the type of operating system. Yes, some laptops are sold either without an OS or with Linux pre-installed - this is noticeably cheaper. But no one will stop you from installing Windows 10 yourself, for example.

As I noted above, I am not at all interested in laptop models whose discrete graphics have less than 4 GB of video memory. That is why later in the article we will talk exclusively about devices equipped with mobile versions of GeForce GTX 1050 4 GB, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB, GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB and GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB.

We will start with perhaps the most difficult nomination. The fact is that it is very difficult to find a high-quality gaming laptop on sale for less than 60 thousand rubles. Such devices are a continuous set of compromises. In this case, the most important thing is to invest in a good video card and processor. Elements such as drives and RAM can always be replaced (expanded) yourself.

Gaming laptops costing up to 60,000 rubles are equipped with GeForce GTX 1050 and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics. The performance of these devices is enough to play modern games in Full HD resolution, mainly using medium and high graphics quality settings.

Gaming laptops up to 60,000 rubles

15.6"", 1920 × 1080, TN HDD 1000 GB 41 Wh 55,000 rub.

The most gaming models with GeForce GTX 1050 and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti mobile chips are on sale. That is why I conclude that such laptops are the most popular among gamers. However, having discarded the options with 2 GB graphics, we immediately limit ourselves in choice. As a result, this section covers only two models from Dell and MSI.

The Dell G3 3579 laptop attracts several features at once. Firstly, we are dealing with a device based on the latest Intel Coffee Lake platform. Consequently, the device can be used not only for games, but also for working with resource-intensive applications. Foreign tests show that the Dell G3 3579 uses a high-quality cooling system: the “Core i5-8300H + GeForce GTX 1050 4 GB” combination gets seriously hot only if you run the Prime95 and Furmark programs at the same time. In real conditions - in our favorite games - the CPU and GPU feel very comfortable.

Secondly, the Dell G3 3579 is already equipped with a 128 GB SSD. Consequently, the operating system and programs installed on the SSD will load very quickly.

Thirdly, this model uses a simple, but still IPS matrix. The laptop's display turns out to be noticeably better than cheap TN screens, which are usually used in budget gaming models.

Among the additional features, I note that the Dell G3 3579 is not very difficult to understand. Therefore, if possible, you can purchase and install another 8 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM in your laptop. This advice applies to all models with a similar amount of RAM.

Last year . The MSI GP62M 7REX-2092XRU World of Tanks Edition is built on the same chassis, but uses a more powerful graphics chip - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Naturally, this model will perform better in games than the Dell G3 3579, although the MSI laptop uses a less powerful 4-core Core i5-7300HQ central processor.

MSI GP62M 7REX-2092XRU World of Tanks Edition attracts not only its appearance, but also its well-thought-out cooling system. To some extent, this model really resembles a tank, since despite its rather brutal appearance, its “armor” (cooling) is strong - the laptop will not let you down at the most inopportune moment, it does not overheat and does not reset the processor and memory frequencies. Perhaps the only drawback of the tested version of the MSI GP62M 7RDX World of Tanks Edition is the use of a frankly poor TN matrix. The laptop is suitable for those who want to play modern games, but do not have high requirements for the picture.

The MSI GP62M 7RDX World of Tanks Edition has an excellent cooling system. In the very near future, I recommend not only purchasing 8 GB of RAM, but also installing an SSD in the laptop - the motherboard has an M.2 slot that supports the installation of 2280 format drives.

⇡ Interesting models from 60 to 80 thousand rubles

If you have 80,000 rubles, you can swing at buying a gaming system with a 6 GB version of the GeForce GTX 1060. The performance of such graphics is enough to comfortably play many AAA projects using high, very high and maximum graphics quality settings.

8 GB DDR4-2400, single channel

As a result, among the many models, in my opinion, Dell and Acer laptops look the most interesting in this price range.

Initially, I planned to add the ASUS TUF Gaming FX504GE-E4031 model to this category, which is equipped with a Core i5-8300H central processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 4 GB version of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. However, one fact confused me about this laptop: only one heat pipe is responsible for cooling the CPU. There is information on the Internet that the ASUS TUF Gaming FX504GE-E4031 throttles even in games. At the same time, we can add 2,000 rubles to our budget and purchase the Dell G5 5587 model - this gaming laptop does a little better with cooling. In addition, I am attracted by the fact that the body of this laptop is partially made of aluminum.

Otherwise, we have exactly the same configuration, which is based on a 4-core Coffee Lake and a 4 GB version of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

The bottom of the Dell G5 5587, by the way, is equipped with a hatch for quick access to drives and RAM. So we buy this laptop, and then install another 8 GB RAM module into it without any problems.

The second contender for purchase is also a Dell laptop. The Inspiron 7577 (7577-9584) model, by all indications, is assembled in the same case as the Dell G5 5587. In general, Inspirons are famous for their efficient cooling, although they operate quite loudly under load. At one time we tested the model, and this laptop had the only drawback - the TN matrix was of disgusting quality. However, since then, Dell has been using IPS screens in its laptops, even if they grab stars from the sky.

The most important thing about the Inspiron 7577 is the presence of GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB graphics in Max-Q design. So, we get a solution that is obviously faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Well, 6 GB of GDDR5 memory will allow you to comfortably play all modern games in Full HD resolution for the next couple of years for sure.

In order to get to the components of the Inspiron 7577, you need to unscrew just one screw and remove the plastic cover on the bottom. Please note that in the table I am suggesting the 7577-9584 model with a 256 GB M.2 drive installed. If you wish, you can take the version of the Dell G5 5587 (G515-7381), which, in addition to the SSD, has a 1 TB hard drive installed. This model costs 3,000 rubles more.

For 78,000 rubles we can get a laptop with a full-fledged GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB graphics chip. Unfortunately, laptops with a Max-Q design version did not come to our testing laboratory. However, more successful colleagues report that the Acer Predator Helios 300 will be on average 10% faster than the average laptop with a GTX 1060 Max-Q.

Last year we published a review that used a Core i5-7300H processor and a GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB. There were no obvious shortcomings in this model. It used a loud, but effective cooling system - and as a result, the central processor and graphics of the device worked at the proper frequencies, without drawdowns or overheating. Playing with the Predator Helios 300 turned out to be quite comfortable. The keyboard is devoid of newfangled features, but it performs its functions well. The IPS matrix installed in the laptop is of fairly high quality, although the factory settings could be better. The Acer Predator Helios 300 PH317-52-52FU model uses exactly the same platform, therefore, we can expect that this modification will also have all the listed advantages.

You've probably noticed that even in the category of gaming laptops for 60-80 thousand rubles, we are dealing with models that have 8 GB of RAM installed. This is also why I recommend buying laptops with easy access to replacement hardware. Still, a good “game book” should have 16 GB of RAM installed - don’t delay this matter after buying a laptop.

⇡ Interesting models from 80 to 100 thousand rubles

Just like a year ago, if you have 100,000 rubles with you, you still won’t be able to purchase a laptop with the mobile version of the GeForce GTX 1070. This category contains laptops exclusively with the GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB.

Among the several available versions, my favorites were the Acer and MSI models. Moreover, the MSI GS43VR 7RE-202XRU Phantom Pro laptop can even be called exotic, since this device uses a 14-inch IPS matrix.

The most important thing is that the Phantom has everything in order with cooling the CPU and GPU - the cooler consists of two fans and five heat pipes. So such a system will undoubtedly cope with heat removal from the Core i5-7300H and GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB. As I already said, there is no need to be afraid of the quad-core Kaby Lake chip used in the laptop - this CPU will “pull out” the graphics level of the GeForce GTX 1060.

As a result, the Phantom weighs only 1.8 kg. In my opinion, MSI has made a good hiking option. With such a laptop you can go to lectures, to the dacha, and to visit friends for a LAN party.

If you need a laptop with a more modern chip, then the Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-51-58AX model looks most attractive in terms of price and performance - it uses a Core i5-8300H processor. I have already spoken in more detail about the 300th series of Helios.

⇡ Interesting models from 100 to 150 thousand rubles

By increasing the budget to a conditional 150,000 rubles, we get the opportunity to take a laptop with GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB graphics, 16 GB of RAM, a 128-256 GB SSD and a pre-installed operating system. The performance of such a laptop will last for a long time - you don’t have to think about an upgrade for the next two or three years.

16 GB DDR4-2400, two channels

With this guideline, I selected two not the most expensive (relative to analogues with similar hardware) models.

MSI GE73 8RF Raider RGB was released on our website quite recently. This laptop does a good job of cooling fairly hot components, and otherwise you have a fairly balanced system. So, the laptop uses a comfortable keyboard, excellent speakers and a high-quality 120 Hz matrix - and, oddly enough, it is TN. The only parting word before purchasing: try to find a model without glare at the edges of the screen.

Among the powerful laptops with a 15-inch screen, I would like to note the ASUS ROG SCAR II Edition GL504GS model. This laptop, by the way, uses a very high-quality AUO B156HAN08.2 IPS matrix with a scanning frequency of 144 Hz and a response of 3 ms. The display is calibrated perfectly, and personally I like it much more than the TN matrix used in the MSI GE73 8RF Raider RGB.

This laptop also has very thin frames! Compared to the previous generation model, the new product is 2.3 cm narrower - and this is noticeable to the naked eye.

Finally, the ROG SCAR II Edition GL504GS. In games, the laptop is noisy, but the frequencies of the main components are kept at a given level.

Laptops with the most powerful graphics - GeForce GTX 1080 - without exception, all cost more than 150,000 rubles. The choice, frankly speaking, is small. Therefore, there is only one model in the table below.

Interestingly, the ASUS ROG GL702VI-BA007T is based on a Core i7-7700K central processor. Apparently, this is why the laptop doesn’t cost that much compared to other models with a GeForce GTX 1080. In my opinion, we (for now) have an excellent chance to snatch the system with the most powerful GPU, since models with 6-core Coffee Lake are priced noticeably more.

Overall, the ASUS ROG GL702VI-BA007T looks like a very balanced system with the possibility of further upgrades. The cooling system, consisting of five heat pipes, does its job. I am well acquainted with such models as ASUS ROG CHIMERA G703VI and MSI GT75, and therefore I see no reason to overpay for “bells and whistles” of dubious usefulness. But it's up to you, dear readers.

If a model with a Kaby Lake generation processor scares you off for some reason, then I suggest taking a closer look at the MSI GT63 8RG-001RU Titan (9S7-16L411-001) - this 15-inch laptop uses a 6-core Core i7-chip 8750H.

⇡ Conclusions

The laptops presented above are not the only optimal gaming models in their class. In addition, one or another modification simply may not be available for sale in a store in your city. That is why the article devotes so much time to considering the numerous nuances that you will definitely encounter when choosing a laptop. I hope our recommendations will help you buy a really good device. Good luck with your choice!

The main purpose of laptops is mobility and the ability to be used everywhere. These are the kind of workhorses that allow us to work on the road, in the park, at home, away from electricity. But if you need a gaming laptop, which means a FullHD display resolution, high FPS, and the ability to comfortably play AAA games at least on medium graphics settings, you will have to pay a considerable amount. Considering how big financial losses await you when buying a gaming laptop, we strongly recommend that you study all the offers “up and down”, as well as use our recommendations, which are based on customer reviews, reviews of reputable media and our own experience in using gaming laptops. Let's figure out how to choose a good laptop at low prices.

Minimum requirements for gaming laptops

It's no secret that in all the variety of figures and numbers from the technical characteristics of laptops, some play a more important role, some play a less important role. To spend the minimum and get the maximum, it’s worth understanding what the minimum requirements are for a modern gaming laptop.

  1. Video card. The main element of the internal structure of a computer, directly responsible for the quality of the gaming process. You should prefer a laptop with at least a graphics adapter GeForce 1050/1060 or Radeon R9(at least M290X). Of course, you can save money and pay attention to mid-class cards, but in this case you will have to be content with average/low graphics and low FPS.

  2. CPU. The Intel i7-7***HQ line is the best choice. The minimum requirement should be a CPU Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5. If money is very tight, we recommend looking for older models with AMD FX-8300. This is a legendary chip that is still capable of being “friendly” with modern games.
  3. RAM. The concept of “more is better” is not always objective here. If 4 GB of RAM in our time is not very much, then 16 GB is enough for the eyes. Minimum requirement - 8GB.

  4. Storage device. A solid-state SSD is an ideal option, but if you need to save money, it makes sense to pay attention to laptops with a conventional HDD and an M.2 SSD slot. In this case, it will be possible to significantly speed up the system as soon as free money becomes available.

  5. Display. Ultra-high resolution should not interest you, for a laptop it will be enough FullHD 1920x1080. Diagonal - to your taste, optimal - 15.6–17.3’.

The best gaming laptops under 30,000-40,000 rubles

Are you looking for the most budget model with non-budget capabilities? Even at a price of up to 30,000-40,000 rubles, it is quite possible to purchase a good mobile computer that will give you the opportunity to play games of 2019. However, you will have to sacrifice something in any case: somewhere an outdated matrix will be installed, somewhere there will be a lack of brightness, somewhere a battery with low autonomy will become a weak point.

This laptop pleases, first of all, with the fact that you can choose one of the many modifications to suit your personal requirements. For 30,000 rubles you can “assemble” a device with a FullHD display, 4GB of RAM (add a few thousand rubles and you will have 8GB), an Intel HD 620 video card and, most importantly, a Core i5-7200U processor.

Proprietary technology allows you to get two processing threads for physical cores, which leads to an increase in the computing potential of the processor. Of course, the laptop supports USB3.0 - a much faster interface than USB2.0.

Extensa is inferior to its competitor (higher) in terms of video card power, but it has 2 TB of internal memory. In addition, a newer generation processor is installed here.

Average cost: 25,590 rubles.

  • High quality build
  • FullHD display
  • Upgrade availability
  • Large selection of modifications
  • Color rendering and contrast
  • Keyboard ergonomics
  • Not the best touchpad

The first place among gaming laptops with a price tag of up to 30,000 rubles is occupied by Acer ASPIRE E 15. A model that has gained incomparable popularity in the digital technology market. Available in numerous modifications with completely different sets of characteristics. Let's consider assembly 3243 (NX.GVCEU.002), which can still be found on sale nowadays, and which fits into the price tag of 30,000 - 35,000 rubles.

The Intel Core i3-6006U processor can hardly be called a gaming processor, and it cannot boast of a sky-high frequency (2 GHz). However, the model has an excellent FullHD display, a 1 TB HDD, and a 2 GB GeForce 940MX video card, which is very good. Nevertheless, the main trump card of the device lies in its reliability, which hundreds of thousands of Russians have tested on themselves (more than 100,000 reviews on Pleer.ru).

Average cost: 29,390 rubles.

  • Good price tag for configuration
  • Easy
  • Availability of m.2 slot
  • Doesn't get very hot
  • Weak battery
  • TN matrix
  • Noisy HDD

The best gaming laptops under 50,000-60,000 rubles

Initial gaming segment. Its main advantage is the best price-performance ratio of laptops, which cannot be said about higher price categories. For 50,000-60,000 rubles you buy a relatively powerful mobile device, ideally with a GeForce 1050 adapter, a Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. These are more functional machines than every second average family laptop.

2

The manufacturer produces several lines of gaming laptops: GT - high-end class, GS - extreme performance, GE - for enthusiasts, while GP and GL are included in the entry-level gaming segment. However, the GL63 8RC is something better than an inexpensive gaming laptop.

Unlike the i5-7300HQ chip on which the competitor (HP PAVILION) runs, this model received a Core i5-8300H processor. This CPU is capable of processing up to eight threads simultaneously, so the performance increase reaches 30%–40%!

As for the power of the video card, in the game Middle-Earth Shadow of War on medium settings we get 46 FPS, in Assassins Creed Origins - 39, in Far Cry 5 on ultra - 31 FPS.

Overshadows good performance as the display is far from the best for a laptop. Low brightness, the same contrast, poor color rendition, insufficient depth of black and gray - MSI still needs to work hard in this regard.

Average cost: 54,390 rubles.

  • The best processor for your money
  • m.2 slot - PCI-E Gen 3
  • Beautiful appearance (backlit keyboard)
  • High frequency RAM (2400 MHz)
  • Bad display
  • Body material is easily soiled

This model has many similarities with the ASUS ROG GL502VM, but they should not be confused. Our version is sold at a slightly higher price (if we compare the simplest modifications up to 100,000 rubles) and is less popular on the market, but at the same time can offer the buyer more advantages.

Dell XPS 13 runs on 8th Gen Intel core i5 or Core i7 processors, delivering performance on edge-to-edge Infinity Edge displays with virtually no bezels. The new Dell XPS 13 continues the trend of being the most popular Windows laptop in the world.

The manufacturer doesn't skimp on hardware configurations, so you can always configure the Dell XPS 13 to suit your needs. The 2019 laptop features a minor update, but honestly, not much needs to be changed here. The laptop's webcam has been moved to the center of the top bezel of the screen, fixing one of the XPS's biggest problems. You can also expect improved battery life with this model.

2 | HUAWEI MATEBOOK 13

The main feature of the MateBook 13 is that it offers significant value for less money while we focus on competing ultrabooks, including the XPS 13 - it is its excellent price-quality ratio that allows it to be among the three best laptops of 2020. You'll find missing features here and there if you want, which is a reasonable trade-off in the quest for value, but you get a compact flagship laptop that's one of the best we've tested in 2019.

If you're in dire need of features like Thunderbolt 3 and a 4K display, we recommend checking out the Dell XPS 13 and MacBook Pro (you'll find them in this ranking).

The results of the confrontation between the US government and Huawei raised concerns about further support for the Chinese manufacturer by Microsoft and Intel, but the latter confirmed that Huawei laptops will receive full support.   • Minuses: Dear | Limited to 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports;

While we're mourning Apple's demise of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, there's nothing stopping us from being excited about the new 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro. Thin, light, stylish and powerful, it's not the 16-inch behemoth you might think. What you get is additional working area with a larger diagonal, as well as advanced hardware characteristics. Finally, with the third iteration of the Surface Laptop, Microsoft has found its ideal and revealed one of the best laptops of 2019. While the Laptop 2 didn't offer much of a change from its predecessor, the Surface Laptop 3 improves across the board.

The most important change, of course, is the ability to choose a hardware configuration on Intel or AMD. Previously, laptops in this series were offered only by Intel. As you'd expect, the Surface Laptop 3 lives up to the series' reputation, continuing to impress with its excellent build quality.

We can say that this is one of the most beautiful laptops without the apple logo, thanks to the new aluminum body that enhances the aesthetics while protecting the laptop from daily wear and tear. The laptop is not without some problems, of course, it suffers from a lack of ports, but otherwise it is one of the best laptops in the world at the moment.

8 | DELL XPS 15 (2 IN 1)

However, not only is it the best-looking laptop on the market in 2019, it's also extremely powerful, thanks to Intel Kaby Lake G Series processors with integrated "discrete-class" Radeon graphics. This means that the potential of the laptop is quite large, even if it runs a little loud under load.

While the Alienware Area-51m (previously featured in this list of the best laptops) is the best gaming laptop for users with that kind of money to spend, if you're looking to save money, there's the Dell G5 15 5590 gaming laptop, which offers fantastic value for money.

Dell's 15-inch G5 doesn't offer the latest components, but it will deliver stunning 1080p gaming performance and boast up to 10 hours of battery life, which is quite remarkable for a gaming laptop.

For most modern users, a Chromebook is the best laptop for students, and the latest Asus Chromebook Flip C302 is one of the best Chromebooks and laptops available today.

When you need a mid-range laptop that is reasonably priced but still capable enough in the performance department, this is the best one in this category.

Thanks to high-performance Intel processors, 8GB of RAM and SSD storage, the VivoBook S15 easily handles any task until we talk about games. This laptop features a bright and colorful screen, as well as a wide selection of ports to keep all your peripherals running.

If you've always loved Microsoft's Surface Book 2 but aren't willing to spend that much on a new laptop, the Acer Switch 3 (2017), despite its age, becomes the best laptop for your needs.

If you're looking for one of Acer's best laptops, the Switch 3 builds on the spirit of the Surface Book 2, although it may be less efficient due to its less powerful components, but it's a brilliant performer for most tasks.

Among other things, increasing the value for money, the 2-in-1 hybrid laptop comes with an upgraded keyboard, eliminating subsequent costs for accessories.   • pros: Stunning design | Build quality;
  • Minuses: Too expensive | The speakers could be better;

When HP unveiled the new HP Specter Folio, the company spent significant time focusing on how 2-in-1 hybrid laptops would redefine the PC market. While that statement may not be entirely true, this is one of the best-looking laptops available on the market in 2019.

Billed by the manufacturer as “vintage meets modern technology,” the HP Specter Folio comes in a genuine leather finish. This is not some fancy case, it's part of the laptop. And believe me, we included it in the ranking of the best laptops of 2019 - 2020 not for its appearance, but for its amazing performance, thanks to the modern components inside the laptop.

However, style comes at a cost, and it comes at a cost. If you're on a budget, it makes sense to take a look at the more affordable Acer Switch 3 above. But if you want the best laptop that can turn heads in a cafe, then you need the HP Specter Folio.

The Lenovo Yoga C930 showcases some great features in the 2-in-1 class, from an amazing 14.5 hours of battery life and two Thunderbolt 3-based USB-C ports to components that can easily handle everyday workloads.

And we haven't yet discussed its 2-in-1 form factor, which offers the functionality of a laptop with the versatility of a tablet for watching movies and light gaming when you're done working. There are also several useful bonuses, including a rechargeable stylus and excellent speakers.

While you can find 2 in 1 laptops for less, if you want the best premium 2 in 1 laptop right now, here it is.

CHOOSE A LAPTOP: WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

When shopping for a new laptop, there are a few things you should pay attention to that will help ensure that you're getting the best laptop for your money.

As with any other computer, a new laptop requires careful consideration of the specifications. Hardware allows you to appreciate a laptop's power and capabilities—as long as you know what to look for.

The first will be the processor. In fact, it is the brain of the laptop; as a rule, processors are provided by Intel or AMD. Intel is undoubtedly much more common, however, in 2019 we have seen an increase in the number of AMD-based laptops and there is every reason to believe that the trend will not change in 2020.

How are Intel processors different from AMD processors? The performance of the former is often higher, but AMD is cheaper.

To make things easier for the user, Intel and AMD number their processors so you can properly judge what a laptop with a particular processor is capable of.

If you need a cheap laptop for simple tasks such as surfing the Internet or watching TV series, an Intel Pentium, Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 processor will be enough to reduce the cost of the laptop.

If you need something more powerful - perhaps you plan to edit videos or play games - look for laptops with Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processors, at a minimum.

The best laptops for multimedia work and the most demanding tasks rely on Intel Core i7 or even Core i9 processors, as well as AMD Ryzen 7 processors. These processors power top-notch laptops that can boast strong performance no matter the task, but remember that they come with hefty price tags.

Finally, the newness of the processor is important. Intel cleverly operates with numbers, dividing its processors into generations, the higher the number, the newer the processor. The latest generation at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 is the 10th generation, but the 9th generation processors are also quite new.

The newer the processor, the better it performs and also offers better power efficiency, which will translate into longer battery life. But modern processors are more expensive.

Random Access Memory (RAM) is another important feature to highlight on a laptop. You need a minimum of 4GB for a Windows laptop - although we recommend sticking with 8GB for most users. This amount of RAM will ensure normal operation of the laptop for many years.

In terms of graphics, there is nothing to worry about as the processors use integrated graphics. However, if you want to play games on your laptop, you will need a gaming laptop with a discrete graphics card - either from Nvidia or AMD.

BATTERY LIFE

Finally, battery life is an important factor. The lifespan of a laptop without being connected to the network will probably become the main indicator. The best laptops should allow you to work—and play—for hours without being tied to a charger. Modern laptops boast better energy efficiency, which promises better battery life. For a laptop to be included in our TOP 15 best, it must work for at least five hours, and often more.

Keep in mind that the battery life that laptop manufacturers claim may be very different from what you actually get. This is because many laptop manufacturers test batteries under unnecessarily restrictive conditions, where the laptop is not used in the way you would use it in everyday use. So while the battery life may be claimed to be 10 hours, you might find that some tasks, such as HD video streaming, may drain the battery faster. This is where our full reviews come in handy, as we test each laptop thoroughly to see how long the battery lasts under certain conditions. If your battery life is ridiculously short (or extremely long), we'll tell you.

WHAT TYPE OF LAPTOP IS BEST TO CHOOSE?

Classic laptops: In this category you will find ones that focus more on practicality rather than style or performance. That doesn't mean they can't be fast, but you can usually find a traditional laptop with an HD panel and hard drive for less than RUB 35,000.

Ultrabooks: This is a category of thin and light laptops with a solid state drive (SSD) and a screen resolution higher than 1080p. Accompanied by powerful, albeit mobile components, as well as long battery life, pricing begins with reasonable prices - from 42,000 rubles to 120,000 rubles.

Convertible laptops (2 in 1): This category includes laptops that can also be used as tablets. not yet available, however many (2 in 1) are available right now. Featuring both removable and 360-degree rotatable panels, hybrids are the most versatile way to experience Windows 10 (or Chrome OS) on a touchscreen.

Chromebook: A category that hides the best Chromebooks running Chrome OS. They do much of what Windows and MacOS offer in the browser, focus on cloud storage instead of local storage, and more recently are gaining Android app support for touch models. They usually cost less than 18,000 rubles, some can even offer performance, albeit at a stretch.

Gaming laptops: Need a laptop to play games (almost) the same as a good desktop PC? Then you'll need one of the . The price of such machines traditionally starts from 50,000 rubles and can reach 180,000 rubles; these are machines that can take advantage of all the benefits of AMD Ryzen processors for laptops.

Alternative to convertible laptops: Designed with a laptop-tablet hybrid approach, they offer HD touchscreen displays and often come with framed stands and keyboard cases. They are also often equipped with a stylus and range from budget to premium devices.

Here is the third and final part of the series dedicated to choosing gaming laptops in 2019. In the article “”, we jointly complained that, having 60,000 rubles with you, it is impossible to find a laptop that will allow you to play AAA projects at least using high graphics quality settings. In the material “” we looked at all the same problems. It sounds crazy, but in 2019 you can spend 100,000 rubles and not get a gaming system, for example, with 16 GB of RAM. So it turns out - whether we like it or not - that normal laptops that run AAA games with very high or maximum graphics quality and do not require an immediate upgrade cost significantly more. Such laptops will be discussed in this article.

The following test results prove the correctness of my words. We see that, depending on the laptop model, the Core i7-8750H can sometimes be even faster than the Core i7-9750H. When comparing chips, we need to make many reservations, because we are once again convinced that the performance of a mobile CPU in a laptop is influenced by many factors, such as the efficiency of the cooling system and the success of the CPU itself, as well as the speed of the storage devices installed in the laptop. As for games, both processors are excellent for these purposes, as long as the cooling system can handle it.

By the way, about laptop coolers. If you're interested, check out the following models: , , - all of the systems listed use a 6- or 8-core chip, as well as powerful NVIDIA graphics. In principle, we see that all of the listed laptops cope with cooling such hot components. Of course, the processor and graphics in them get quite hot, and the cooling system is quite noisy. But these are gaming laptops. Based on my more than 10 years of experience, I can boldly say: they have always been like this. If you want to have a quiet and cool system, then it is better.

In general, we see that in this price range almost all models perform in a similar way: some are a little better, some are a little worse.

⇡ Storage devices and upgradeability

Luckily, when it comes to expensive laptops, in most cases we will be dealing with 16GB of RAM. In 2017, an article “” was published on our website - and I boldly declare: the situation has not changed fundamentally. Yes, for many games, when the graphics quality is turned on at maximum, 8 GB of RAM is not enough, but at the same time, 16 GB is enough even in Ultra HD resolution. For example, this topic was touched upon quite recently in the article “,” which, if you read it carefully, indirectly touches on the topic of RAM consumption in games. But I’ll say right away: in the second part of the article I will offer models with a Full HD display - this resolution, in my opinion, is quite enough for games on a 15- or 17-inch screen.

And yet, sooner or later there will come a time when games, even in Full HD resolution, will begin to consume more than 16 GB. There are projects (for example, Battlefield V) that are already approaching 16 GB of RAM, so I really want an expensive laptop not to one day turn into a pumpkin. And for this it is necessary that we can get to the components of the device. Yes, the processor and video card cannot be replaced in 99% of cases (and if it is possible, it will be quite an adventure, believe me), but you need the ability to replace memory and drives. To do this, it is necessary that the bottom of the laptop be easily removed, unless the model has separate hatches that simplify access to components. Let's say, in a year or two you can easily replace one 8 GB RAM module with a 16 GB memory stick and get 24 GB, which will last for a long time.

The same goes for storage devices. Laptops costing over 100,000 rubles will be equipped with an M.2-SSD of the 2280 form factor - it will be connected to the system using the PCI Express interface. Additionally, a 2.5-inch hard drive can be installed, but we must admit that even manufacturers of large 15- and 17-inch models refuse this type of storage. Let me give you a model as an example.

Unfortunately, it won’t be possible to figure out everything so that the laptop has everything perfect, and even has an excellent SSD (for example, made by Samsung). Many manufacturers have certain contractual obligations, and therefore similar-priced models may contain solid-state storage devices of different classes. In fact, when studying the offer in stores, they tell you only one reliable characteristic - this is the nominal size of the SSD. Therefore, it is important that any gaming laptop can be partially upgraded if necessary. Use the device for a while, then give yourself a New Year’s gift and install another SSD in your laptop—one terabyte, for example.

⇡ Video card

There are many laptops on sale that cost more than 100,000 rubles, which use GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GeForce RTX 2060 graphics. Personally, I don’t see the point in buying a laptop with any of these GPUs at that price. And this decision, of course, is related to the amount of video memory.

That is why I believe that there is no point in spending 110-120 thousand rubles on a laptop with GeForce RTX 2060 graphics. Buy a cheaper model with such a GPU, even if it does not have, for example, a 144 Hz screen, thin frames and RGB backlighting for each keys. It’s very possible to live without all this. If you are ready to spend a tidy sum on purchasing a laptop, then immediately buy a model with at least a GeForce RTX 2070. It is not only faster, but also has 8 GB of video memory - this kind of laptop will allow you to play AAA projects for quite a long time.

The graph above shows a comparison of various mobile accelerators in several games in Full HD resolution - the focal point for laptops even costing 100+ thousand rubles. The comparison is conditional, since laptops use different processors and storage devices, and the GPUs themselves (depending on the BIOS settings and cooling system capabilities) operate at different frequencies. It may indeed happen that a laptop with a GeForce RTX 2070 will be faster than a system with a GeForce RTX 2080, because processor dependence has not yet been canceled.

There are also laptops with Max-Q graphics on sale. Here we are dealing with GPUs, the frequencies of which are specially lowered - for example, so that the laptop heats up less. Take the Predator Helios 300 model, which uses a “stifled” version of the GeForce RTX 2070. In games, its GPU frequency varies from 1305 to 1455 MHz. But in one equipped with non-Max-Q graphics, the chip frequency changes already in the range of 1470-1755 MHz. As you can see, depending on the load, the difference in performance of the same GPU can reach 300 MHz, and this is a fairly significant difference. Again, the graph above clearly shows that in some games the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q may be inferior to the regular mobile version of the GeForce RTX 2070.

The most offensive thing in this matter is that some manufacturers hide the fact of using Max-Q graphics. And if you don’t read reviews, you will only find out about this after purchasing the device.

I have already noted that NVIDIA mobile solutions have no competitors in the upper price range. The situation, in my opinion, is sad, but when choosing an expensive gaming laptop, you have to focus on the GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2080. These GPUs, as we know, support hardware ray tracing. And both GPUs are capable of DXR-enabled gaming at Full HD resolution—even without DLSS anti-aliasing. In general, if you buy such a laptop now, next year you will be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 quite easily, as they say, at maximum speed - I’m sure that a laptop of this level will be able to handle the upcoming hit.

⇡ Rest

I think my position is very clear: when choosing any gaming laptop, the level of performance of the components, as well as the efficiency of the cooling system, is of paramount importance. There are no ideal laptops, but the device must cope with its main task. If we are talking about inexpensive models, then we want to take the best solution in terms of price-performance ratio. It’s interesting that the same can be said about expensive models. Paying more than 100,000 rubles and after a year or two getting a “pumpkin” instead of a mobile computer is still a pleasure. Therefore, other parameters when choosing a gaming laptop fade into the background.

It is worth noting here that when it comes to expensive models, as a rule, the manufacturer does not forget to give the potential buyer all sorts of nice extras. For example, this applies to the display. In the second part of the article, you will get acquainted with laptops, most of which use fast matrices with a scanning frequency of 144 or 240 Hz. This is, let's say, a gentleman's set of a modern mobile gaming computer.

I don’t believe that all professional eSports players play on laptops. In addition, getting those coveted 144 FPS in games in the case of laptops turns out to be not so easy - the evidence is shown in the graph above.

It’s also quite easy to decide on the type of matrix. Now many laptops use 144 and even 240 Hz IPS screens - this could be the AUO AUO409D (B173HAN04.0) or, for example, the Sharp LQ156M1JW09. The response time of these matrices is 3 ms, so there is no need for a fast (but, in general, dull) TN display.

And even more so, I don’t care what kind of frame the laptop screen has.

Finishing the topic of matrices used in expensive gaming laptops, I note that the same AUO AUO409D (B173HAN04.0) and Sharp LQ156M1JW09 are really well suited for games. But such displays are not suitable for people who professionally engage in photography and video.

In laptop reviews, the hardest thing to write about is the keyboard, because you have to share a purely subjective opinion with the reader. You can read hundreds of reviews in which the authors will tell you that the key travel of the keyboard of a particular laptop is smooth, clear, fast, responsive, tight, loud, quiet, pleasant, and so on, but there is no better way than to try the keyboard yourself. taste." Therefore, I recommend going to some conventional “Eldorado”. Even if the model you took note of is not on the stand, you can always study the keyboard of another laptop from the same manufacturer.

You shouldn't expect record-breaking battery life from a gaming laptop, although some models are capable of operating without a power connection for four hours or even more while watching videos or while surfing the web. If you need a gaming system with long battery life, then look for a model with a capacious battery - from 60 Wh. Just be aware that in offline mode, GPU performance is dynamically reduced, limiting rendering to 30 frames per second. It’s not always comfortable to play in this mode, but in any case it doesn’t last long—an hour and a half at most.

I can safely call the remaining parameters of a gaming laptop - sound, wireless connection, interfaces - secondary. If on the sides of the laptop there are several USB A-ports, an HDMI output, an Ethernet connector and a 3.5 mm mini-jack for connecting a headset, then this is quite enough for a comfortable pastime with the device. Newfangled USB 3.1 Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 are extremely nice additional options, but definitely not essential interfaces.

The sound quality of most laptops is usually below average. Simply because good audio requires a spacious case.
