Jpeg2000 - features and benefits of the format

Of course, we - enthusiasts and lovers of photography are interested in the possibility of reducing the file size when saving to disk with the same visual quality indicators and the same photo frame size.

One of the possible solutions in this situation is to store images in Jpeg 2000 format with the jp2 or j2k file extension.

Despite the fact that the compression algorithm in Jpeg2000 and the format itself have existed for more than 10 years, it has not yet received wide distribution, due to the very strong positions of its "big brother" - JPEG.

For the same reason, there are not many graphics programs that can view and edit Jpeg 2000 files yet.

Does it make sense to switch to this format? Definitely yes. The Jpeg2000 compressor can provide high visual quality for images, which is exactly what we need, not inferior to JPEG.
